The Gribble Inn in Chichester

Stunning country pub, friendly and welcoming, food is delicious, staff are lovely, and the garden is beaut! Gets very busy so book in advance to not be disappointed!

On 16 March we had a double birthday celebration, it was a great evening.

We visited on a very busy Saturday as part of a large group of friends. All the tables were full and the staff found us somewhere nice to sit 🪑. Our Starters all arrived at the same time as did our mains which was impressive with it being a full house 🏠. Staff were great and dealing with the customers in a friendly and polite manner. Food 🥝🥑 was lovely 🌹 and we recommend the Pork Belly. 🐷. Good choice of beer 🍺 some of them brewed on site.

We asked The Gribble Inn to host a wake for after my dad's funeral. Food and tea a d coffee for 40 people was provided. Everything was ready on time and beautifully presented. The finger food, sandwiches, quiche, sausage rolls and much more all looked hand made and was delicious. Vegetarian and gluten free options were available. Many of the family commented how good it was. There was more than enough for 40 people. The staff were kind and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. We had plenty of space for everyone. I would highly recommend The Gribble Inn for a function. Very impressed. Thank you to all involved.

Lovely pub with interesting range of drinks including rhubarb cider (which was very nice) and good menu with extra specials on boards round the pub. Very little choice for the vegetarian in our group though and nothing for vegans except a burger. We were looked after very well by the girl who was looking after our part of the pub.

Amazing place! Smiley, friendly and beautiful staff. Plenty of staff too I will add! I had the biggest whitebait I've ever seen for a starter. I loved how most of the meals you could have a small or large portion. I had small ham eggs and chippies and it was just right on top of a starter. The price was fair considering there was plenty of lovely staff. We will definitely be visiting again.

We had an early dinner here and were very impressed. Very pleasant feel to the place, quick and efficient service, and the food was excellent. Next time we will have to leave room for dessert.

The Gribble has been a big favourite with our family for years. It’s a lovely old pub in a quiet location with a nice garden for the summer. Food selection is good and reasonably priced too. However, on the last two occasions we’ve been the cask beer has been decidedly under par. Both times our pints were thin and flat tasting - not ‘off’ but just watery and lacking any ‘sparkle’ I’ve drunk a few pints in my time and I suspect the beer was not properly conditioned in each case. Tackled the barman about it but was met with the usual ‘no-one else has complained’ response and left to get on with it. This pub is very popular and must be a gold mine but sadly I won’t be able to use it while the beer is not really drinkable.

Having been there twice now to meet with family over a Sunday roast, I have to say that it is great family friendly pub. The staff have gone above and beyond to help us with a wheelchair bound family member. The food is fresh and very tasty. Lovely portions. Great choice of ales and ciders. Reminds me of how pubs used to be. We will be back. 🙂

We ate in here last night. What a friendly pub, staff and customers alike. The food was to die for, i would highly recommend. We will be popping in again the next time we're down from Yorkshire

What a find. a delightful traditional pub in a beautiful historic building. Great menu of superior pub food with several specials. Bangers and mash for my other half, who's very fussy about the quality of sausages and the Gribble's pass the test with flying colours. I had a special of cod with celery, prawns and spinach - beautifully served and quite delicious. The food is very reasonably priced for the quality - we have paid a lot more for pub grub that's been nowhere near this standard. Simon and his team give such a warm welcome and well-behaved dogs are welcome. My other half only discovered the Gribble looking for a bite to eat in walking distance of where our campervan was being looked at in Tangmere - it's now on the list of favourites and well worth a detour.

Real Country pub with fantastic food! The roast is enormous and sadly couldn't finish it all, but beautifully cooked. Staff lovely. Will definitely go again.

Gorgeous, unspoilt, old Pub with a big log burner and plenty of quirky seating. Friday treat of a glass of red wine and dipping brie to share made me very happy. Lovely atmosphere, friendly locals and staff...we will visit again!

Nice atmosphere old pup! It was 3pm but the pup was already full. Better to book to avoid any inconvenience I think :) Had pork belly Sunday roast after walk. It was the best Sunday roast I had in England so far. (One of my friend had roast beef and I do remember pork belly over the beef)👍 Don’t recommend the desserts though. Quite a disappointment.

We had a fantastic experience with the Gribble Inn. The Manager, David, was so patient and accommodating with the changing size of our large group (thanks New Year illness!). The food was lovely, arrived quickly, and the serving staff were attentive and smiley. What more can you ask for? We'll be back!

Great place to pop in for a lunch after a long walk on the downs.

Lovely selection of classic pub food, which was reasonably priced for the quality, and served in delicious large portions. We also enjoyed the real ales which are brewed onsite. The staff were friendly and efficient. We spent just under £100 including tip for a party of 4 (4x mains and drinks, didn’t need a dessert as the mains were enormous!). Great country pub for a meal out or a drink.

My son and I had a delicious roast. The beef was cooked perfectly and there was plenty of it. The whole meal was generously portioned. Service was faultless and good value. We took our dogs and they were made welcome too. Easy to find and park. Can recommend.

Lovely food, friendly service and buzzy atmosphere. Was very busy when we visited but service and food couldn't be faulted.

Disappointed. Limited menu choice. Service was poor. Gribble beer was not available and substitute beer was flat. Draughty as back door was constantly opened and closed and cold air was let in when delivery man brought deliveries in. Other couple near us asked to be moved as they felt the cold. Such as shame as this was a birthday meal and we had good memories of past meals there.

Lovely place to have a family meal. Food was fantastic and the atmosphere was friendly and warm. Children's meals were also great, good choice and generous portions. Will definitely visit again.

First time of eating here can honestly say that the food was amazing albeit a very large plate full, staff were friendly such a cosy feel to the place also they are dog friendly , will definitely be returning .

This was one of our many outings to the Gribble. Tonight the food was amazing (but then again, it's always great). As a vegetarian I often struggle to find food I can eat as I'm also very picky and don't like spicy food. The vegetarian burger was the best veggie burger I've ever eaten - not fake meat or dry/spicy but perfect and so much of it! The starter was brilliant and so was the pudding of creme caramel & shortbread. 5 stars 🌟.

Sunday lunch was one of the best we had for a long time, just don't have breakfast as the portion is XL. The staff were very friendly and couldn't help enough. Also, they have a great range of their own beer, which taste great. The only downside is that we don't live close enough to go to each week!

Went out to dinner to celebrate a friend's 80th birthday! There were 11 of us, choosing different meals! We had prebooked & preordered ! We had a lovely room next to the entrance, just us! Service was brilliant! Food was amazing! 4of us had the fish basket! 2 had the pork belly with mash! 3 had fish & chips! 1 had a burger & 1 had ham, Egg & Chips! Absolutely fantastic! Food beautifully cooked! Generous portions! Served very promptly to all of us! Staff very helpful & accommodating!

We love the Gribble Inn. We found this gem just outside Chichester whilst we studied at the University 2015-19. Every time we revisit the city, this is always our lunch or dinner destination. A picture postcard pub and garden, it's a beautiful place to sit and enjoy drinks, as well as a meal. On our most recent revisit, a couple of weeks ago in mid-August 2023, everything was just as good as it was in any previous visit. Love the food, especially the chips, garlic bread and many amazing cheese dishes. The mains have changed a fair bit over the years but there's always good choices. I was gutted on this most recent visit that there appeared to be no onion rings on the menu, as they were, quite simply, the best onion rings to be found anywhere in my opinion, but overall this is one of our favourite pubs in the UK!

Had read the reviews and wanted a dog friendly pub serving good food. We certainly weren’t disappointed with excellent food, friendly staff and good service. I would suggest getting there early at lunchtime or booking as it got quite busy whilst we were there. Highly recommended.

Took an age to get served. Specials all disappeared so had limited choose. Food was good. Not a pub I would return in a hurry sorry.

We have had a few meals at The Gribble Inn and not had any issues with our food. Today however was a different story. Firstly I had a sticker from an orange or something in my glass of orange juice, the young waitress was not in the least bit interested when I brought this to her attention! I then ordered a roast but with no meat, so just potatoes, vegetables and I asked for a Yorkshire pudding as well, this order was also taken by the young waitress. When my meal arrived there was no Yorkshire pudding with it and vegan gravy. Another waitress kindly got me a Yorkshire pudding and ordinary gravy. While eating our food we were plagued by flies as the back door was open. At one point my husband had 4 flies on his meal. Obviously this put him off eating his dinner. The waiter (possibly Manager)!showed no interest when we brought this to his attention. We paid £79 for a meal that consisted of a few vegetables (£16) and a meal that was contaminated with flies (£19) the staff weren’t happy or friendly or in the least bit concerned about our complaints. The young girl waitress didn’t smile or try to strike up conversation 🤷‍♀️ A real shame as the building is so nice but the staffing is certainly not up to standard. We paid for a meal that we were not at all happy with and the staff couldn’t care less So very disappointing 😳

Relaxed, friendly and good beer

It was very expensive and you did not get a lot of food. Menu is very limited. Shame really as the place is beautiful.

Being an awful day of Weather, it was cold outside but the atmosphere at the Gribble was very warm and friendly. The service despite its popularity was first rate. The food ( especially if you like fish) was exceptional and great value for money. However I was intrigued by their local ale; and being a fussy real ale drinker; the Fuzzy Duck is excellent and looking forward to return here again. There’s only one public house in Oving but by far the best around the Chichester area🙂

Country pub in Oving village, popular with the locals , quite a small bar , but a large ish garden and outside seating area. Menu is more edging towards gastro pub than traditional pub grub. Attracts more of the older generation in my opinion.

Haven’t been back here in about 30years.. so was great to come and see what it’s like now. Same lovely atmosphere.. things slightly different over time but, still great service and food is still amazing!! Defo a little spot to try out, and eat! Outdoor seating too. Car park.

We visited the night before the first day of Festival of Speed. Pretty busy but service, food and drinks were all excellent. Some great beers from their own micro brewery. I would definitely recommend trying the beer flights to find your favourite and then enjoy a pint or two.

Hadn't been to the gribble since the fire of 2014. Glad to see that it's all back together again. Really good food and an excellent selection of real ale. Only disappointment was being charged £2.00 extra to have a really tiny portion of garden peas with my fish and chips. I would have thought they should have been included in the price. Hence only four stars

Went there with family and had a really nice time. Some of the group were vegans abs there were a few choices for them. They said the chili chips were good. I had a delicious pork and mash dish. Staff were very friendly too.

Gorgeous pub, lovely garden with beautiful flowers. Staff were attentive and professional. One vegan option, and I am not keen on chilli. It also made the chips soggy being on top. Adding a vegan dessert would have made up for that. Everyone else really happy with their food, the fish and chips were huge! And my grandad loved his gammon steak, which was very nicely presented. Thank you ☺️

Family meet half way between the new forest and East Sussex every couple of months . The food was excellent and the service was the same .

Too many chips with the fish & chips and they looked anemic. Rather noisy in the restaurant.

I'm so glad this pub hasn't been touched by the awful "Gastro" fad that seems to taking over our lovely old Inns up and down the country, if you want a good old fashioned pub with an open fire then this is the place for you

Just enjoyed a fabulous Sunday Lunch at The Gribble for Father's Day. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully cooked and the portions were so generous, I needed a hoist to get up from my chair HaHa! The staff were very attentive and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We were able to take our dog too which was an added bonus. Will definitely be returning for another visit soon. Thanks for making our day so enjoyable.

Visited for lunch with a friend from abroad who wanted to have a traditional roast but has many food intolerances before returning home. The attention given to my guest was exceptional. Time was taken despite a busy service to understand the intolerances and provide alternatives such that my guest was very impressed and thoroughly enjoyed the meal which was off excellent quality and quantity

Wonderful setting. Took a while to be noticed at the bar. Beers drinkable but pricey and not to my taste. Had other visits and enjoyed it more. Maybe I was having an off day.

This is an excellent pub. We had a Sunday roast, excellent in all respects AND they brew their own beer. A choice of 5 ales and the 6% (!) one was smooth and very drinkable. Recommended.
