As part of my birthday treat of visiting nearby Hever Castle, we booked to stay at The Greyhound at Hever restaurant with rooms for the night (September 2024). It’s a delightful little place, with just five bedrooms, a few minutes drive from Hever Castle and well placed for exploring this lovely part of Kent. Our room, number four, was a ground floor room that opened onto the garden where we sat and enjoyed a cup of coffee whilst listening to the sound of birds singing in the trees. The room had everything we needed for an overnight stay including the most important things - a comfortable bed and a very good shower. We ate dinner in the intimate restaurant where the tables were well spaced so we didn’t feel cramped or overheard by nearby diners. The food that we chose was delicious and reasonably priced, as was the wine list. The owner was friendly and welcoming and we felt at ease both at dinner and again at breakfast. Breakfast was another very good meal with a good range of choices. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing stay and if we return to that part of Kent again we’d definitely return to The Greyhound.

We stayed 2 nights and had a brilliant time. The accommodation was comfortable and very peaceful. The shower was exceptionally good. The bed might be a bit low for those with mobility issues and we would have appreciated biscuits on the tea tray, but that is being picky. The breakfast was of a very high quality as were the dinners. Simple food cooked with expert skill. We particularly enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere that was created in the restaurant and it led to a very relaxing experience. The establishment is run with great efficiency.

We stayed here, bed and breakfast. Everything from the initial impression and arrival to accommodation and food was excellent. The Greyhound is a good base for touring the area, once you have adjusted to the narrow lanes around here. Our room was comfortable on the ground floor with a pleasant garden view. The bathroom was well equipped with a good shower. The area is very quiet and peaceful. Food in the restaurant was of a high standard, dinner was very good with a small menu all cooked on the premises. Breakfasts were good. We would recommend the Greyhound as a great place to stay.

The hotel was well placed for our visit to Hever Castle and we were delighted with the lovely room we had reserved. The room opened onto the garden and was well equipped with a comfortable bed and a great bathroom. The bedroom was beautifully decorated and had plenty of storage for our belongings. The only slight criticism was there were no biscuits on the hospitality tray. Breakfast was amazing both days.

Outstanding meal! We were staying at Hever and had the good fortune to eat at the Greyhound. A truly phenomenal and memorable three course meal - would highly recommend the pork belly (for starter or main!) and the smoked salmon and savoury pancakes for starter is not to be missed. Great service, a perfect evening.

Lovely cosy restaurant close to Hever Castle. A friendly welcome and a good menu with a range of choices. The steak and kidney pudding was gorgeous. A meaty filling with plenty of kidney. Fresh veggies and propper gravy. Followed by a raspberry roulade. Very sweet but with clear well defined flavours. A great meal a.d very good value for the quality of food.

We were staying at Hever Castle for the night and booked The Greyhound at Hever for dinner. It was amazing! From our arrival, earlier than we had booked, the experience was faultless. The food was excellent. Starters of grilled halloumi with parma ham and a prawn cocktail were followed by the most delicious steak and kidney puddings. Compliments to Alan the Chef! The service was outstanding from the owner Caroline, who explained that The Greyhound had been rebuilt after a fire in 2015. It is now a restaurant with rooms. We will definitely return and stay when we dine there next. If you are visiting Hever Castle and staying there, or looking for somewhere close by to eat and/or stay you will not find better than The Greyhound at Hever.

Came in for dinner just prior to Valentines day. This is a "post fire' visit. The place seems somewhat smaller inside and perhaps because it was quite busy.. Was greeted by a friendly wait staff person and promptly seated. Service was very good, food was delicious and hot. All in all very nice experience. Only thing it was very close quarters at the table and very quiet in the restuarant so hushed conversation or no conversation seemed the norm. I had the Lamb an dthe Lady had the liver. Both cooked perfectly Very nice

From the moment we arrived we were charmed by the lovely ambience of the Greyhound. Our room was beautiful and spotlessly clean with a dual aspect. The website photos do not do it justice. The bathroom was modern with a lovely rain shower. We only intended to eat dinner on our first night but the food was so good that we ate there all five nights. A night cap in the lounge after dinner was heaven. Breakfast was also gorgeous and all freshly prepared and piping hot. It was our first visit to Kent and Caroline and Stephen made us so welcome that we would not stay anywhere else.

This will be my 7th time patronizing this Pub/ Restaurant. Several friends got together for dinner and drinks.Having had a somewhat positive experience here before, a friend suggested this venue rather than try a new place. There were hardly any people in the place and it was very quiet. As in no music .Thee whole Covid restrictions thing is new so we had to sign in to be able to get service. The atmosphere was a bit cooler than previous visits and the Owner / Bartener/ Wait person seemed very stressed.I can only imagine the hardship these illegal government restrictions have put on Pub owners.Anyway , kind of had my heart set on a steak, and strangely taken off the menu. Settled on ribs instead. The food was good , and came out very quickly! We all enjoyed the food, but twice we were told to be quiet!Kind of weird as nobody was anywhere near us.Got the feeling that we were somehow not the kind of clientele that the owner likes to have there. We were celebrating a good friend moving away and did have a couple of laughs.I cant fault the food or the swift preparation, onlly tat the experience was anything but relaxed.Portions could be a bit larger as we are grown adults, but we knew this prior to going. All I can say is that someone in Government stop lying to the people about this virus stuff so pub owners can get back to having business as usual , and not stress. That's my "giving them the benefit of the doubt".On the other hand, if business is slow ,you might value all customers a bit more.Much to the owners relief, we will not be back!

The restaurant reception and dining area were very pleasantly arranged, furnished and decorated. The service was efficient and jolly. My wife's starter of tempura prawns and mine of devilled kidneys on brioch were both very tasty. For mains I had the fish and chips (billed on the menu as a pub snack!) and it was lovely, as was my wife's sticky ribs. No room for desserts.Overall it was a very good meal and so, although our first visit, it won't be our last.

This is a very good place, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, great food. It would have been 5 stars but it took a long time for the food to come out. When my food arrived it was missing a key element that was specified on the menu. I asked twice for it to be brought out but it never came. I finished my meal as I didn’t want it to go cold. When I raised the issue with the staff, they weren’t very forth coming in making amends. It’s a premium bistro pub and I feel that they undervalued how this experience tainted the evening. While I’m sure many people will have a good experience, I won’t be going back. I MUCH prefer the King Henry pub next to the castle, that place is faultless.

Staying at Hever castle we needed to find somewhere for dinner. We happened upon the Greyhound and I’m glad we did. We had our 6 year old granddaughter with us and the staff were very accommodating offering to cook her something simple not on the menu like pasta. She chose to have fish and chips which came as a huge portion, nice fleshy fish and chunky chips. My husband went with the duck comfit which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had a lovely fillet of sea bream with spinach and pea puree….mmmmmm beautiful. The staff were very pleasant but our meals were very slow to arrive which is ok if you don’t have a tired 6 year old with you. The Greyhound was spotlessly clean and covid rules adhered to appropriately. They were utilising the eat out to help out offer which was great of course.I would definitely come again for a nice relaxed experience but perhaps without the 6 year old!

Seeing the write up on TA we decided to go for a meal. Arrived at just before 6pm for a drink and was greeted by a friendly chef who advised us they don’t open until 6pm and would happily serve us which was great . The pub/restaurant decor and ambience was great and comfortable so we decided after a while to eat. Time passes regulars we thought came in and were seated, given menus by the owner/waiter who appeared. Passing us numerous times with empty glasses he brought drinks to the newly seated guests. We were not acknowledged once so I decided to get the menu myself from the bar which he gave me. Again time went on no service at all, time know 7.15pm. We had had enough so I went to the bar and said I would like to speak to him, reply was hold on a moment, I let him know we were not happy and why did we not get served? Instead of diffusing the situation he said get out and got aggressive. I feel that it would be a ideal to eat but if he is front of house with that attitude he will lose a lot of custom. Just because they are in a popular area with high demand for tables it is no excuse to be rude. Not recommended at this point.

We have not visited this pub since its refurbishment. The owners have attempted to position the new incarnation of the Greyhound Inn, away from the traditional pub with food, and towards a small rural restaurant. Although l commend the atmosphere created - especially the lighting, this small and welcoming Inn, in practical terms, sells pub food and has a small bar. We booked a table for 6 people on Saturday night. The evening as a whole was most pleasant, and the owners understandably friendly. It's just the fact that when you book a table, you kind of expect to walk into a refurbished pub.....and not a place where the bar is an afterthought, only then to experience pub food anyway. So the menu, and here's the problem. Yes, it has something for everybody. The group ordered, Sea Bass, Welsh Lamb, Belly of Pork, Steak & Kidney Pudding.....and they all arrived with the same mashed potato and green beans. Disappointed at the lack of imagination - with so many winter vegetables to choose from. I certainly would not put you off from visiting the Greyhound Inn. I give it a 4 star rating....but only just !

We booked this restaurant for our second night in Hever. The pub had a fire going in late July, but it was a nice and cozy spot to have a glass of wine before dinner. The dining room itself is small and very quiet. Good food. A little expensive compared to what we had experienced in England. My 13-year-old daughter was travelling with me...so I'll advise that this is more of an adult oriented venue. She liked the food, but was a little uncomfortable with all of the adults staring at her. Small dining room. Close quarters. More of a "date night" place.

The food is good, the beer was fine but expensive. Can recommend the pork belly. The pub doesn't like boots or young people (under 7's) which considering there were only 3 others in surprises me. With Hever Castle a couple of minutes away and packed with people of all ages. Good business sense would tell you to take that sign off the door in winter. Still all in all good service.

The quality of both our roast meals was outstanding (roast beef & belly of pork). Only disappointment was that there wasn't much meat on the belly of pork roast, but that's something that is easily rectified. The coffee we were served after our meals was second-to-none...best I have ever had out anywhere at home or abroad. Very much looking forward to our next visit!

Booked for a Friday lunch but the place was very quiet. I’m guessing this is not the case in spring and summer with the castle nearby. Quite a lot of car parking. Don’t come if you’re in a wheelchair. The place is comfortable and welcoming, kind of elegant country. Sparkling clean loos! Service excellent (but it was pretty empty). Disappointing selection of real ale, one only! Menu very good, food excellent, I had lambs kidneys followed by slow cooked pork belly both of which were sublimely good. The only exception the inedible tempura batter on the prawns which wasn’t tempura, not even chip shop, more like soggy shoe leather, thick and pappy! This was the only let down, hence 4 not 5 stars. Desserts ab-fab. Reasonably priced. Will definitely return.

Quite shocked. My husband and I were refused entry here, just because we had a sleeping baby. This was on a Thursday lunch time!!

We booked for two for a celebratory meal. We were very well welcomed on arrival and seated in a quite section of the pub with only 4 other tables.

We stayed at the Greyhound for 2 nights and I have reviewed the accommodation, but the restaurant really deserves a review of it’s own.

Looking for somewhere local to my mum in Lingfield, The Greyhound looked a good choice, and was booked for a belated birthday meal.

As you enter, you are seated in a comfortable lounge area to read the menu. The menu offers good choice and is reassuring short to underline fresh not frozen!

We have been here a few times before and after the renovation and the decor is welcoming and tasteful. The service is good and its always good to catch up with Caroline. The food is great and there is a choice for everyone. Would recommend.

A roastingly hot day and a drive in the country led us here. We’ve been here before long ago, but this inn closed, (after a fire apparently) and it has now been trading for over two years. It’s a charming establishment with letting rooms and a lovely secluded garden. It’s tucked away down a country lane and very close to Hever Castle.

Had lunch there on a recent Sunday. It was very popular obviously with regulars. Great menu with several traditional British items. Food and service were excellent. Desserts were superb.

Recently went for a meal and the quiz night. The ribeye steak and chips were unreal. Gluten Free available and the manager was very educated on cross-contamination. They’ll talk you through different options even if it’s not labelled on the menu so if you’re Coeliac I highly recommend it! Dog friendly too! Quiz night was very well organised and great fun! Will 100% be going back again!

The Lion is our go to restaurant and this time it surpassed our expectations. The food was excellent, well presented and served with a smile by Tina The menu offers such an excellent range of foods my wife had Chicken and Mushroom Pie and I had The Prime Beef burger with brisket of beef. All top notch.
