Steak and kidney pudding, terrible fray bentos, mash and cabbage were ok , bring back the old management, I keep trying to give these a chance, not again.

Great experience at this hidden gem. I have a gluten free diet and the chef went to the extent of making a gluten free cauliflower cheese for me. My partner said it was the best roast he had had for a long time. Try to update your online presence and allow your customers to book a table via the website and I am sure you will attract more diners.

I popped in for a cup of coffee on 19th December, just to check out the pub as we had a booking for a family birthday party on 22 December. Another couple asked for the menu and they were told that the pub wasn‘t doing food that week because it was just the landlord. I asked him to check our booking for 22 December, he didn‘t come back to me, I went to the bar and asked for a second time if they had our booking, the reply was yes but they weren‘t doing food but ‚might‘ be able to offer a reduced menu - burgers or fish and chips. I said that wasn‘t what we had in mind for a special birthday party and asked that he get in touch with the family member organising the meal out. He didn‘t bother. Customer service 0 out of 10, manners 0 out of 10. We wont be going back.

Our bookclub (7 of us) booked our Christmas meal with Andy (the landlord) in advance from the special Christmas menu. It was a really lovely menu with some great options. The food was really delicious with very generous portions that defeated a few of us! I had the cured trout to start with horse radish cream and pickled cucumber - lovely and not too heavy to start. Most of the others enjoyed chicken liver parfait with Christmas chutney and toast. My main was the market fish (a whole plaice) with Anna potatoes (yum!),beurre noisette with lemon, capers and little shrimps and cabbage. Others had the goose, turkey or veal options. Dessert was a gorgeous chocolate and ameretto mousse with biscotti whilst others had spiced apple pie or Eccles cake with clotted cream. A really lovely menu and very good value, especially for the large portions. I will definitely be back- thank you! A great pub for drinking too! They don’t do food every day so always best to check. A really welcome addition to the village.

This is a pub near the centre of a small town. They have a very good range of beers, and a beer garden. The pub is quite large with a pool table, a dart board, and plenty of tables for eating. The menu is superior pub grub, but done very well, and reasonably priced. There is a small wine list, but it’s good value and quality. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the locals, who seem to make up most of the customers, are friendly. The only snag I can find is there is no car park, but there is some street parking, just read the regulations before you leave your car.

I went to this pub on a Friday night with some friends as a way to start our evening. We walked into a friendly atmosphere and were greeted straight away by the bar staff. Whilst at the pub we decided to have some food, I ordered the 8oz sirloin steak. It came out in no time at all with chips, peas and garnishing and was a very good size portion. The chips and the peas were both very lovely, however the steak was to die for!!! I have had steak from a lot of places but I must say this one was one of the best I've ever had. I ensured I told the staff to thank the chef for me. We continued to drink in the pub for a few hours and had nothing but a good enjoyable time. I can't see what the others reviews say about the bar staff/owners as they were nothing but helpful and friendly towards me and my friends and considering we were a young group of men (which some village pubs are not keen on hosting) I couldn't of asked for a nicer stop! I have visited this venue on several occasions and other than cheap grub and drinks there is little to comment. On my first occasion it took the landlord a few moments to come up from his laptop (whilst sat behind the bar) to see us and get a drink and then promptly on the chime of closing physically ! if necessary through his clientele out!! On my second occasions I took the children to the play area during the day, we had a few drinks and planed on staying for dinner but were informed that we could not eat in the play area !! Although several great tables! And so left. The management at this point will point out several hazards !! But the management are just lazy!! Because with training and risks assessments they can be overcome!! Or customer collect at their own risk!! Thinking out side the box !!! The food is Booker Basic on another occasion we stayed for food, with grease and dirty fryer oil pouring out of it!! Pub is full of local drinkers and that is how it should have been kept.

We were surprised when four of us walked into the pub and were not greeted with a welcome smile, just a look of disdain from the gentleman behind the bar. As other reviewers have said, this is a cosy village pub, recently refurbished to a high standard. It's comfortable and attractive inside, with lots of historical features. The beer is varied and well kept, and the food is great value for money, with a traditional menu that has something for everyone. There are quiz evenings and live bands that bring in lots of customers. On my most recent visit we were served by a friendly, smiling and efficient barmaid. So this should be the ideal village pub and I was looking forward to writing a positive review and visiting more often. But that's not going to happen. The Greyhound in a residential area, so it's understandable that the licensees are keen to keep good relations with their neighbours and adhere carefully to the letter of the law.But there are different ways to communicate this to customers and sadly the landlord prefers a very aggressive approach. Drinking up time began only moments after the band finished playing. As we had been enjoying the music several of my party had just bought drinks and were looking forward to finishing them before we went home. The landlady moved to take away my full pint almost as soon as it was on the table. Staff were continuously calling for glasses and insisting we drink up. Rather than quietly explain that they were obliged to close up on time, the landlord was shouting and commanding. I immediately felt unwelcome. When a friend attempted to talk to the landlord about this, his response was to bark "Right. You're finished." and snatch his drink from his hand.At this point I was feeling not just very unwelcome, but actually intimidated. My friend and I left the pub and waited outside for the rest of our party.Moments later the landlord came outside and continued to shout and swear at us.... even though we had left the premises. There were still dozens of people in the pub. It's so sad that a great evening with good friends and a cracking band was ruined. It's such a shame that the landlord seems so unfriendly and negative. Running a pub is undoubtedly a stressful and demanding profession, but it's destructive and short sighted to aim that frustration at your customers. A landlord has a responsibility to keep order, not to create flash points and invite disputes.I'm bitterly disappointed that what should be a gem of a pub is somewhere I now associate with rude, aggressive behaviour. So sad.

My family and I had lunch here on the way to the Bombay Sapphire distillery, having looked at a few places in the area. On first sight the menu didn't look to be anything special, not least because it didn't have any real design features to draw customers in. Do not, however, let you put you off.We had five different meals - steak and onion pie with chips and peas; chicken and ham pie with mashed potatoes and peas; cheeseburger in a bun with chips; half chicken and chips; and gammon, egg and chips. There was a slight wait to be served, but nothing to worry about (we had chosen five different meals after all), and when the food came it was of a really good standard, with just about the right amount to fill us up without being stuffed. It was also excellent value at just over £33 for five of us. Those suggested on the Bombay Sapphire website would be hard pushed to provide the same quality at almost double the cost.My only problem was that, as I was driving and there were free samples at the distillery, I couldn't sample the good range of ale at the bar!On street parking only could cause problems to some.

I'm baffled by the negative reviews about this fantastic pub. Food is of the "pub grub" standard and very reasonably priced. Beer choice is superb, staff are friendly, and the locals are great. The pub's being refurbished at the moment, so I look forward to seeing what the new look is like...

I highly recommend not going to this awful venue. The customer service was the worst I have ever experienced, the landlords are rude and aggressive to their patrons and treated my group and others in the pub with complete disrespect. Avoid at all costs. Disgusting and unfriendly.

Horrendous service and attitude ordered a roast and it came out cold with the meat having loads of fat and gristle in it. No body asked if we enjoyed the food as it was evident we didn't. Will never return there are many more pubs and restaurants in Overton with highly better service.

Good beer and a nice atmosphere. The Boxing Day session with the Mummers was a real treat. Waiting to see what the refurb brings.

I dropped in to check out the local pubs as i have just opened up a business in the area. I have a pint and ordered a few rolls at the bar. No frills selection regarding the food in the early afternoon...but thats all i wanted. Decent pint and a few locals propping up the bar. Friendly(ish) welcome and would happily drop by again.

What can I say they need to clean firstly and the toilets ummmm interesting !! So after seeing a very small amount of food on offer we went to the garden with the kids and I went to order food finding out what we wanted was out "only a few things on menu" so change of mind and carried on then found out we can not eat in the garden and had to all come down the dangerous slippery stairs from the garden to the restaurant not very inviting for children

We visit Overton to house-sit every few months, and always make sure we call in for at least a drink with each visit. The food here is simply 'Pub Grub'.... but that's giving it less acclaim than it deserves. Most (or all?) of the food is home-made, which is not to be expected when you pay so little for it! For example, the curry I once had couldn't have been more than around £6, but it was fantastic. And the level of spice was not held back, which for me is hard to find! There's a pool table, TV and juke box, which is nice if you want somewhere to get a little boozy on a weekend. The staff are always friendly. Especially the young girl behind the bar. She always gives non-locals a friendly welcome. Lastly, if you are bringing children there's a great garden at the back (right at the back, up the stairs). There's a wooden play-centre that'll keep the kids entertained for hours.See you in February. Paul & Hayley :)

Old School traditional pub. Good selection of real ales, also now does food and takes credit cards (previously it didn't). Well worth a stop if you want to go out for a no-nonsense drink with friends.

Cheap proper in a basket pub food nothing "gastro" but inexpensive and easy to eat. Good beers and drinks and a great garden for kids hidden away from the pub so that kids can shout and be kids and not worry about disturbing others. The garden is completely enclosed so kids cant escape either but with the climbing frame they are happy to spend hours.

Just looks like a village pub, but the food is very good. The menu is varied and there are about half a dozen vegetarian dishes too. The food was all cooked beautifully and we had between 4 of us liver and onions, beer battered fish and chips, scampi and chicken breast in honey and mustard sauce. All served with chips or mash, but no problem to get extra salad or veg if you don't want them. Great range of desserts. Unfortunately the Turkish Delight Cheesecake wasn't being served. Had to put up with lemon meringue pie. Such a hardship.......

I was working at a local event and popped in here with a few friends for a few drinks. When entering people stared as if we were not allowed in the pub, it was clearly a local pub. The managers were constantly staring at us, complaining about the local event that they clearly knew we were from. The poor barmaid was on her own while the clear managers were drinking and only helping her when they deemed convenient. Where we sat was a power socket that was free, as I work at a pub I merely plugged my phone in and then was shouted at by a manager who didn't even have the decency to stand up but simply sit with drink in hand and accuse me of unplugging her TV. When I apologised profusely, I said I would take it out and let her know I too worked in a pub and people would use our power regularly and was unaware that other places had problems with this. The lady said it was fine to keep my phone charging and accepted the apology. After this, a man whom I assume was the other manager came over and started having a go shouting 'WE SERVE BEER NOT POWER, HAVE COMMON COURTESY'. We were polite throughout and I would never dream of being rude or attempting to disrespect them, I then unplugged my phone and apologised although being told twice was unnecessary. He continued to moan and dig at us and then proceeded to sit down and complain about us once again. After all of this, we proceeded to leave to go somewhere else due to the foul dynamic felt in this pub. As we got up, their fire alarm went off and we were then accused of smoking in the pub (none of us smoke). They then implied that using the plug socket had caused the alarm and that it was our fault and we needed to sort the alarm out. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE SOCKET - THIS COULD NOT OF BEEN OUR FAULT.The women then had the cheek to say that we clearly caused all of the alarm issues and that we must have fire on us somehow. We didn't. Generally, a horrific atmosphere, rude service (or lack of service), bad management and I would never even step foot near this pub let alone advise anyone to attend here. KEEP WALKING DOWN THE ROAD, THE RED LION PUB IS AMAZING AND THE STAFF ARE BEYOND KIND.

I came here with friends and kids for food. Never been before, assumed it was a locals pub, which it clearly is. With prices for food averaging £5 I wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised, chef obviously takes pride in his work and service was brilliant. Kids loved the new play area in the beer garden. A great place for a budget family meal.

We had an excellent meal, good service and very reasonably priced. Only complaint was that I asked for a coffee with a dash of cold milk, I got a very milky coffee made with hot milk.

This pub has always been good for a drink and a chat, but now Marc and Lisa have done up the beer garden and added a brilliant decked seating area and a fantastic climbing frame/swing set for kids, it's brilliant. The food they do is fantastic too - lasagne and garlic bread, hot dogs, chips - all good grub for the best price, you can treat yourself to another drink as it's such good value. And both the landlords are friendly and welcoming, making you want to stay and return. The pub also has free wifi... they do karaoke nights... they sell coffee and cake... they even have an open fire... Brilliant place!

Best Prets! We live in Salisbury and were visiting for the day and this Prets is the best we have been to. Clean, plenty of sandwich choice and friendly staff. The manager Ahman made a special effort to speak to us and showed true hospitality. So impressed, this really made our lunch! Please send Ahman to manage the Salisbury shop! It needs his imput to improve the standards!

Always enjoyed popping into this pub, friendly staff and good service. Sadly the future for this place was written on the walls. Struggled to get clientele in this climate, hopefully the staff have been able to find employment elsewhere. Not nice to be made redundant just before Christmas.

A friendly local pub. The staff are attentive and friendly. It's a shame that there isn't any cask ales on, but maybe they haven't got the custom for real ale.

We hired the conservatory and the Calleva catered for my son’s wake. The food was excellent and they kept topping it up. They catered for gluten and dairy intolerances well. The room was private and a perfect size for our group. Thank you.

This is a little local pub, used by local. We also invite visitors to join in the fun. EVERYONE IS WELCOME. Come on down and enjoy yourselves.
