The Greendale Oak in Bassetlaw

Lovely Pub with excellent service from Ethan and Millie. The menu had lots of choice and our main course was truly delicious - a little disappointed by desert (still a bit frozen in the middle!) but immediately dealt with and unquestioningly knocked off the bill. The only thing that could have made it better for me was to have decaffeinated tea available - but that’s probably not really what people go to a pub for! Overall, really good and we’ll be back.

We visited this pub for a meal to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary on a rainy Wednesday in October. There was a lovely atmosphere when we walked in, having not been here for around 10 years. We were shown to our table and drinks orders taken straight away. I had the bruschetta and porky burger, my husband had shin beef croquettes (I think they were called) and then cod loin. The food was gorgeous! I particularly liked the porky burger made with belly pork, a good twist on a burger. We were too full to have puddings. It was then we found out that Wednesday nights are quiz nights, so we decided to stay to join in. The quiz is done on your phone, you have to download an app, but the Quizmaster was great and came round to explain how it worked. We came last, but we’re up against regulars and not in a team - but we had great fun doing it. Overall we had such a good night, if we get the chance - we’d love to go back again. Special thanks to the staff, ‘Millie’ and the guys who are great at their jobs & to the Quizmaster who was so welcoming. Sorry I didn’t get all of your names, but you were great and a credit to the pub. Hopefully we’ll be back again before too long.

Went for a meal with partner. Having not been for well over 10 years there have been some great improvements both to the decor and the menu. Cannot thank the manager enough for a great evening. The food was great, despite not actually getting what I ordered! It was so nice to see a manager that actually serves and talks to the customers and doesn't just walk around surveying. We have booked to come back again already

Tasty lunch - ham eggs and chips (eggs perfectly cooked) and generous Caesar salad. Friendly and efficient service from Jo, Ethan and Leah. Pub is both traditional and modern. Doggy friendly bar area.

We went for Sunday dinner 🍽 it was delicious and the White Chocolate and Lavender cheese cake was unreal. However the whole experience was make so much better by lovely Charlie. He made us feel so looked after, nothing was too much trouble. Charlie answered any questions and went above and beyond. Would of been nice to be able to tip personally.

Just had the worst meal ever normally good but 17/06/24 only two staff on probably only one in the kitchen two meals ok two of them the chips were over cooked didn’t even have a egg with one meal the chops told the young lad and his reply was do want the chips replaced which was yes the meal took over hour to come out like this very poor so we were left eating the meat till the chips came back 10mins there was no one to ask for anything so got up and went to the bar to get the drinks said to the lad we buy the in-laws vouchers for Xmas £200 for this place his reply was if your not happy with it don’t buy them we know now not going to this year plenty more pubs that want customer’s

Popped in for lunch. Had our dog with us. Great dog friendly pub. Lovely inside. The menu was great. Loads to choose from. We had scotch egg for starter and jerk chicken, margarita pizza and GF onions rings for main. Delicious!!! The service was fantastic. Millie really looked after us. We will be back. Thanks guys!

This lib used to be lovely- not any more. Came as a family my parents and my daughter. First we were shown to our table to be told that the bear had been out on the wrong table so moved to a smaller table. Very rude member of staff nearly demanding we were in the wrong for sitting on our named table. Then ordered food quickly. Next more tables rated around us with 4 dogs - no ask if we’re ok with the dogs that close to us. Food arrived cold, and veg was rock hard. Beef was dripping in blood. No ask if we’re ok. Paid the bill and left before it could get worse. Won’t be returning here until reviews improve I’m afrqid

What a shame, moved to cuckney and thought we would try for a Sunday dinner. All the food was cold, pork belly was just not edible. My wife couldn't cut it never mind eat it. Stuffing was dry, potatoes had been sat for a while you could tell with how dry they was. Asked how the food was before we had even received everyone’s meals. Offered a drink or pudding which we refused. Wouldn’t go back.

Went today with a group of 16 ladies, the food was good but the service was terrible, we were in a room on our own and seemed to be forgotten when it came to service, 16 ladies who may not come again or recomend to family and friends is a loss of income for the pub.

Sunday lunch for 3 , the meat and potatoes with Yorkshire pud was served first then we repeatedly had to ask for our veg and side orders . Service was shocking the meat ect was cold by the time we had everything. No one asked if it was ok we just got stroppy service for asking where the rest of it was . Asked for a reduced bill and was offered 10 percent off , shame as we have been going for years but it seems to be changing for the worse. Will not return now until we see these reviews getting better .

We were on our way to Creswell craggs and stumbled upon this beauty on our way. A beautiful country pub with a modern twist. Staff were very accommodating and we were made to feel very welcome. Not having to wait too long for our food, it arrived with lovely presentation. A lovely homemade meal! Definitely worth the visit!!

Ordered a lunch meal of pie & chips. The pie was a child's portion, bland in taste and weirdly served with kale and one small carrot both of which were not Al dente but al rock hard, couldn't even cut it let alone chew it. Won't be eating there again!

After years of frequenting this restaurant I am sad to say no more . We all have the odd time time when things don’t go right but when everything is quite obnoxious and you have spent a lot of money and the attitude is apathetic it’s time to spend my money elsewhere . This used to be a lovely pub to meet friends and enjoy food together but unfortunately it is losing its soul. First of all I would add the food served is of good quality and for that there is no complaint. When you pre book a table. 4 days before along with pre booking food too we expected to be served the dish we ordered. We have visited the pub 2-3 times a week now for over a year now and every Saturday 3 of us for varios parts of the county and Sheffield meet up for a beer and share 12 oysters. As we were told previously to ensure they kept a dozen for us each Saturday, we always book the table and the oysters a few days before to ensure they are there for us when we arrive. Last night we arrived as usual and bought drinks and paid for the oysters. After a few minutes a member of staff told me that they only had 7 oysters left and did we want them. The reason given was that the kitchen was not notified of the booking previously. I would emphasise that no apology was offered and I would need to be refunded the cost of the oysters. In the end we decided to take the 7 remaining ones being charged for 6 as an inconvenience. The refund for the balance is still being awaited. Later we were told that they can’t help it if they made a mistake by a very disgruntled member of staff. Whilst I can sympathise with mistakes being made it is not good enough when staff are ill trained and lack the skills to deal with customers and complaints. Previously there were senior staff who oversaw the bar and waiting staff but now there is no leadership and the staff are ill prepared to deal with customers with long queues at the bar and little or no politeness to customers. In order to keep keep the pub where it should be for food, ambiance and service I suggest the management pay more attention to running the place properly and making sure the staff have a supervisor who can help them attain their potential.

Went today for Sunday Lunch - wouldn’t rush back to be honest - No complaints with the service at all but for what you pay we both thought the cuts of meat could Have been better as in Pork Loin as opposed to Belly Pork and Chicken Breast as opposed to half a pale looking chicken that looked like it had just flown onto the plate 🤮 However dessert was lovely even though we got given soup spoons to eat it with.

Had our annual staff dinner, thirteen of us ,food was very good no complaints ,but I'd pre-ordered all the meals and we were waiting 1 hour before being served ,they'd taken drink orders and we had to go to the bar to remind them after more than 20min wait . I don't mind waiting a little bit but think an hour is over excessive ,iwas very disappointed after having previous gatherings that went like clockwork

We decided to try TGO after recommendations from friends and its appeal from the roadside. We did visit during peak hours but even so we found it strange we had to queue at the Bar to announce our arrival and be seated. We were waiting (with others) for about 10 to 15 minutes and got the impression there were not enough Bar staff. The table we were seated at was on a low floor area than the others near a fire exit, and cold. The waitress agreed it was too cold and to be fair they did find us another table. A visit to the gents was uncomfortably colder. We had to wait about 40 mins for the food to arrive, which was not really an issue to us as we realised they were busy. However, the food was also disappointing. The jerk chicken tasted nice but was way too dry, and the poor side salad and corn on the cob did little to add any moisture to the meal. I left about a 1/3 rd as the dryness beat me. No skewers came the the corn, is that normal now? The chips were fine. An excellent range of Beers and good quality wine offset the poor food somewhat and it did have a nice ambience inside, although I do think a smarter dress code may help? I can never understand why people continue to wear baseball caps when dining and I think creating the wrong impression. Foul language needs to be addressed. We will try again I am sure at some point, so I am not writing this review to put anyone off, but that the business may take it as constructive criticism in a very tough market. With Launays at Edwinstowe closing I would have thought many more diners will be trying here.

On arrival, we were looking at drinks available and was told in no uncertain terms to go to our table. My husband said he was looking at the types of lager and beers available and the waitress very abruptly said, it is table service! We followed her through and then when we asked what lagers were available, our young waitress hadn’t a clue. She brought a member of the bar staff over who was able to help. Our waitress then left without taking one of our six drinks orders, so I had to call her back. The food was nice enough but presentation of the pie, chips and vegetables was dreadful; swimming in gravy coloured water. At one point, we were chatting away; three couples who hadn’t seen one another for a long time, when a waitress appeared and immediately, bawled across the table at our group, asking us if we’d like to see the sweet menu. She didn’t even pause for a second before doing this, so we had a moment to recognise she was there. I don’t recall one smile, one polite word all evening.

The Sunday roasts are amazing, perfect gravy and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. Great little pub atmosphere. Staff were friendly and you can bring dogs in too.

Stood at the bar waiting to pay. Been here over 10 minutes and not even acknowledged by staff. Sometimes they are non existent which is a real let down. For a lovely pub the staff really let this company down.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Had olives, chipolatas and fritto misto for starters. Everything was tasty, cooked well and piping hot. The honey for the chipolatas was slightly overdone, so a little bitter. Then we had a 40 minute wait for our main course. We had obviously been forgotten, we were sat in one of the lovely pods outside. A young lad did come out after 30 mins to apologise and say that it wouldn't be long. And he did apologise profusely when he bought our meal. We each had a seafood pot. The broth was lovely, the fries were hot and tasty and the seafood was cooked very nicely. The only downside is that whoever cleaned the mussels needs more training as most of them still had the beards in them. There was also slices of raw garlic in the broth. This was a real shame as it could have been a fantastic meal for a very reasonable price.

The perfect venue for a spot of lunch and just a mile up the road from our house. The staff were great.....friendly jolly and efficient. The food is so tasty and delicious. We've been here many times since moving to this area and it'll always be a favourite pub/restaurant for my Husband and I.

The first time we visited a couple of mo the ago this place exceeded expectations and lives up to the recommendations from friends. The best steak I'd had in a long time and an amazing baked potato. Fast forward to this evening and we will not be returning. Talk about disappointment and let down. Service was extremely slow and.my husband's drink was served in a filthy glass. This was changed with a mere shrug and no apology. We were wondering where our starter was after all it can't take long to shuck 6 oysters. But then our mains came out and we were informed our starter was coming ad part of the main. This time the food was poor. My husband's burger dry and over cooked,my baked potato barely cooked through and hard in places. There was no butter on it and no condiments offered. No one came at any point to check if we were happy nor offer drinks despite drinks order being taken at our table. On leaving my husband told the gentleman behind the bar of our disappointment. He was indifferent at best. We won't be returning when you can get better food and service elsewhere

This was a very disappointing second visit, (1.30pm Sun 6th Aug) which we had made from some distance to meet up with friends. Last visit we had the Greendale Burger & Seabass risotto, wonderful brilliant experience hence a re-visit. This time the same burger, Haddock, chips, samphire and peas. Out friends had the pies and mash. Waited to long for main courses, had to ask of their whereabouts, when they arrived the burger was just luke warm and the fish looked and tasted dried out and overcooked We would have complained at the time but service was chaos, looked like there were not enough staff for the covers, plus we were starving. Long wait and chased up deserts. "Greendale Oak" please address your issues and we will come again soon and hope for a better experience.
