This must be our favourite pub. Family friendly, comfortable, nicely decorated with a really nice atmosphere. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. There is an excellent selection of well-kept beers. The food is reasonably priced, nicely cooked, well presented and delicious (today we had the steak sandwich and the prawn and crayfish sandwich). Cannot recommend The Green Tree highly enough.

Came here for dinner with my parents - it was a Monday and there were not many customers - we were made to feel very welcome on arrival and were seated in the bar area. Great menu - food was beautifully presented and really tasty. Lovely to see the sea bass served whole on the bone. The steak a perfect medium-rare. Service was very friendly from our waitress. A range of wines by the glass were on offer and in various sizes, with local Wensleydale beer (and others) on tap. It’s a lovely place to visit for a meal, when you want something a little more special than regular pub fare. A warm, relaxed atmosphere.

Called in on our way home on the off chance, very pleasantly surprised. Gorgeous place, recently redesigned and refurbished to a very high standard. We ate in the bar, the food was excellent so we didn't mind the slightly higher price point. Our host James was very welcoming and entertaining without being intrusive. Definitely on our list as one for a revisit.

I would highly recommend visiting The Green Tree. As a family of six we booked a table online via the pubs website. We received a very warm welcome upon entering and that set the tone for the rest of our meal. The dining room is very tastefully decorated and had a nice ambience. We ordered from the lunch menu and we opted for the Fish and Chips and the Steak Sandwich. The portion sizes were very generous and the food was amazing. Not a scrap left (pardon the pun). I had the steak and mushroom sandwich which was probably one of the best I've ever had. The service was impeccable and we didn't need to ask for anything, including condiments. These were all diligently provided without prompting which is always a good sign. We were all too full to try out a pudding but if they are half as good as the mains, they'll be delicious 😋. The meal was reasonably priced and worth every penny! The Semer Water ale on tap was bang on too. We'd definitely recommend you try this pub out. I'll definitely like to return on an evening to sample the al a carte menu. Keep up the good work!

This was our first ever visit to the Green Tree and it won't be our last. Encouraged by recent newspaper and magazine reviews and very positive TA feedback we came here for Sunday lunch. The muted and unfussy decor created a nice dining environment. Service was mixed and we found some of the staff more enthusiastic and friendly than others. However the food is what we came for and on the whole it was superb. For starters we had the prawn cocktail and pea soup and both were beautifully presented and very enjoyable. Our main courses were the beef and lamb and again the meat was cooked perfectly as were the accompanying roast potatoes and vegetables. All meals were excellent. If we did have a quibble we would have preferred to have served the potatoes and veg ourselves so we has some control of the quantity. Similarly a jug for pouring our own gravy would have better than the gravy being served for us as our food was swamped by it. To finish off I had the sticky toffee pudding which had a light sponge and a lovely toffee sauce - again very enjoyable. Ironically the toffee sauce was served in a jug! Would we visit again? Absolutely and next time we hope to try some of their evening meals.

Amazing! The decor and ambiance is second to none. The Theakston bitter chilled to perfection as were the wines. Staff so friendly and extremely efficient. The menu choices , either a la cart or pub classic bar menu, I challenge anyone not to find someone they would like, and the food quality and portions were excellent. Prices very reasonable. This is a start up business I think in a wonderful old building, definitely worth a visit and your support.

My friend had the chicken and bacon salad and thoroughly enjoyed it also. The decor , music , Staff and ambience is Great a lovely feel. We will definitely be back and have already booked a table for a Sunday roast dinner. Would highly recommend. Thank you

This is a very late review but a very complimentary one! I visited here with my mother back in March, having followed the progress of the Green Tree and eagerly awaiting what was in store after a beautiful restoration. Great to have this lovely little pub back open as a pub and back on the North Yorkshire dining scene. We had lunch and could not fault a single thing. Mum had flamed grilled langoustines, mushrooms on sourdough drizzled with truffle sauce for me. Our mains; delicious sausage and mash with a decent amount of robust tasty gravy and mum wild mushroom risotto. All was delicious, generous portions, beautifully presented and served with a smile! The new owners have done an amazing job with both the inside and outside of the Green Tree, lovely ambience and good value for money, quality food. We will definitely return :)

Visited the Green Tree for Sunday lunch. The welcome from the manager was warm and friendly, the pub’s interior was new but traditional, with well laid tables and sparkling glasses. The Sunday menu was small (always a good sign) with three options for starter, mains and puds. After a very nice starter we had the beef and the pork roast. Each had a very generous serving of meat, lovely crisp roast potatoes, a good Yorkshire and a lovely selection of fresh green veg, with a separate bowl of cheesy cauliflower/broccoli. A sticky toffee pudding and cheese board afterwards (even though we were full!) and at £34 for three courses, excellent value. Couldn’t fault a thing and the staff continued to be friendly and attentive throughout. A special mention for Kitty who fashioned a swan shaped doggy bag out of tin foil when we asked for our uneaten meat to take home for our dog. Altogether a lovely lunch and would highly recommend. We will definitely return.

Had an absolute gorgeous meal at the Green Tree Inn last night (Friday 19th). The staff were fantastic and personable without being overbearing. We thought we’d booked online but there was an issue with the confirmation, we were not disappointed though. The staff quickly found us a table and set it for dinner, despite it clearly being a bustling Friday night. Incredible choice of drinks. The wines are gorgeous! Regarding the food, everything was perfect. Definitely not pub grub, it really was something special. We’d intended to share a starter and have a main each… but ended up both having three courses, so that says it all! Lastly, another shout out to the staff (sorry we didn’t get your names!) friendly, funny, and nothing was too much trouble! Thanks guys!

I’d heard from a number of locals about the newly opened Green Tree Inn, finally booked in for Sunday Lunch and had a great experience from start to finish. The decor was lovely, such a cosy pub and beautifully renovated. Firstly was really impressed by the professional service, it was busy but the staff were super attentive and friendly throughout. Wine selection was great, loved the pinot noir. The food was exceptional, roast beef cooked to perfection with the most delicious accompaniments, the cauliflower cheese was unreal, and had the Brill which was incredibly fresh and I would definitely have again. Overall I can’t fault the visit, there was a really good atmosphere at the Green Tree Inn and it’s great to have a pub like this in the area, we all look forward to visiting again very soon

Having previously been for dinner we returned again for Sunday lunch. What a fabulous experience!! Sunday lunch can be so hit and miss in many restaurants but the Green Tree proves to what it means to stand above the rest! Usual Sunday selections but with the added choice of fresh fish for those in search of something different. Perfectly pink beef served with delicious wine = a perfect Sunday! Topped off with standout service once again from James.

Varied experience. They got a wine order wrong. First brought red not white, then 175ml not 125ml. Did not say anything about that. Two of us were torn between the roast beef or the fish, which the menu made it look as though it was three different pieces. No, when we ordered we were asked which one we wanted. Fair enough, but it came complete with head and bones. It may be the 'in thing" but no thanks. I prefer the chef to do the work of filleting, not pay to do it myself. Third member of the party opted for the roast beef and was pleased to see the Yorkshire pudding was not the same size as the dinner plate, and the beef very slightly pink, so full marks there. Dessert, passion fruit cheesecake, and cheeseboard were both very good. Would we go back. Not sure, probably not. If we did we would most definitely not have fish. Normal, eat in the bar area experience.

Wanted to give this new local offering a try and you can usually tell if the food is good if Sunday lunch is of good quality and value. The beef for main course was excellent, tender and tasty. Accompaniments were mixed, veg was amazing especially the cauliflower cheese and carrots. Roast potatoes and yorkshires were just ok but the gravy was delicious. There was a mix up on dessert so they knocked it off the bill. Service was efficient and friendly although you can tell they are finding their feet. It’s top end prices with potential to be a local hot spot once settled in.

First time here. My wife and I both had shellfish starters, langoustines and scallops both excellent. The extra freshly baked sourdough they brought out was delicious. We had the rissotto and pork belly mains, also both excellent. I had a glass of Tempranillo that was really excellent, especially for the price. The food came out quickly, the service was great, attentive but not overbearing and the ambience was lovely, however we did go late and it wasn’t very busy at this stage. Would absolutely recommend highly, not cheap but for the quality of food, service, ambience, well priced. We’ll be back again.
