Stumbled across the Green Man at Inglewhite completely by chance after a wet and Windy walk up Beacon Fell last Sunday, and so glad we did . We were greeted by a lady who I apologise to for not getting her name to put in this review. Very friendly yet professional, allowing us to choose where we wanted to sit . Very informative about the menu and the history of the place. We both ordered the big daddy Sunday roast which were excellent. Then encouraged to bring our puppy in to meet everyone, as she had fallen asleep in car. Such a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, with excellent food. Perfect for a early Sunday afternoon meal after a blustery walk. We are already planning our next visit. Thank you to all at the Green Man for such an enjoyable experience .

I'm embarrassed to have persuaded a friend to drive up from Huddersfield to join me for a meal at the Green Man, which i assured him, based on a visit two years ago, served the best pub food i'd had in 50 years The food back then was amazing in every regard. The meal my friend and I had this time was dry, tired, uninspiring. I guess everyone has an off-day, chefs included. I prefer them not to have an off-day at my expense. I guess I'll try once again, given the first experience was just Wow. But if they don't show their best colours I won't let them embarrass me again..

Went out for a Wednesday lunch treat having driven last it a month earlier promising to return. Look and feel if the place is very much in keeping with the rural area however the menu is something that sets this place aside. Take local fayre add a hipster twist and you’ll be somewhere near, the pies were gorgeous and I’ll be back next time due the Highland dirty fries. Staff couldn’t have been any better, not the cheapest but we’ll definitely be back.

Lovely pub set in a picturesque village, overlooking Beacon Fell. We sat in a lovely bay window so we could see the view throughout our meal. This was our first visit and it did not disappoint. Our waitress was brilliant from start to finish. She literally could not do enough for us and made us all feel very comfortable. We ordered Sunday roasts. One chicken, beef and pork. Meat was beautifully cooked and the shared vegetable was lovely and presented a great selection…carrots, beans, cauliflower cheese, mash and some other mixed veg. We were offered extra gravy which is always welcome and our children given adult portions at no extra cost. We finished with desserts. Ice cream, chocolate fudge browny, biscoff cheesecake and a dairy free apple pie. All lovely! Definitely recommend a visit. We will be back!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

As an occasional, but regular, visitor to the area I have been here numerous times over the past six or seven years. It’s nothing exceptional, but it’s usually been ok. However, my most recent visit (18th Feb) was a thoroughly disheartenting experience. The menu now appears designed to confuse. We thought we’d ordered 3 set Sunday meals (starter & main @£18) plus 1 main and a few drinks and was expecting a bill of around £80. Food was edible, as long as you like your pies very well baked and your beef very pink (‘we always serve our beef this way’), but that’s for another day. When I went to settle up I was presented with a bill > £105. The receipt itemised everything and the cashier/waitress was adamant everything was in order, and the error was all mine. If you order a roast and a starter from the menu and do not specify to the waiter that you want the £18 ‘deal’ you will be charged separately. Similarly, most starter/main combinations appear to be excluded from the deal and yet are not individually priced? The abrupt cashier/waitress relished advising nothing could be done as ‘it’s already gone through’ and she didn’t have the authority to recalculate things. She did agree to check with the general manager, but soon returned with zero empathy and the same well rehearsed lines. My mistake, I’ll do better next time……..by going elsewhere. Moreover, it transpired that despite no reference on the menu, all the food prices were ex. Vat so 20% had been added to the quoted prices – even the beer. Despite not being sufficiently qualified to reassess our bill she was confident enough to assert, ‘we’re not obliged to show this’ and ‘no one else has ever raised this.’ Remarkable! I paid up and put it down to experience. As we left, there wasn’t another paying soul in the place, but a bearded chap was now behind the bar with the waitress/cashier. The general manager perhaps? I spoke to him, voiced my concerns and he did have a slightly more conciliatory approach than his colleague. As ‘one of the general managers’ he assured me he would correct the VAT issue on the menu and offered me a ‘free meal for two’ when I’m back in the area next month. I declined – the damage was already done so why would I want to go back, even for free? In conclusion if you do decide to eat here: 1. Get the waiter to clarify your menu choices/prices. 2. Check if VAT will be added. 3. If you raise a query don’t expect any semblance of customer service. Also don’t bother asking for access to WiFi – they won’t give it as it ‘might interfere with the card machine. We’re rural here and we don’t have fast broadband.’ (80Mbps broadband is available in this location). With customer service like this I’d suggest occasional interference with the card machine is the least of their worries.

The Greenman is one of my favourite pubs in the area. I pop in for a beer when out on my bike regularly and bring the family for tea, which we always enjoy. Thought I would bring some friends over for a Friday night beer and food. Arrived at 7.30 ordered beers and enquired about food and was told that they had stopped serving. Website said it was 8 but this wasn’t the case. We would have been happy with a couple of bowls of chips. We had planned to spend the evening in the boot room around the fire. When we asked if we could light the fire we were told that it had to be below a certain temperature in the pub before it could be lit. It was a mild night so not as cold as usual but the boot room was chilly. A second request to light was refused for the same reason so we ordered a taxi and left. We would have spent the night there but were clearly our custom was not wanted. Left at 8.30 instead of the planned 10pm that we planned. Staff seemed clueless.

Me and my partner had been on a nice walk around Beacon Fell when we decided to pull up to a pub on the way back for some food. We noticed the Green Man and thought we would see what the menu was like and if they accepted dogs. As soon as we got through the door we were greeted by Alfie who was really friendly and came and approached us and our dog gunner straight away. We asked about food which he explained was a Sunday roast at the time and directed us round to the bar to order drinks. Alfie was really positive and upbeat and you could tell he enjoyed his job and gave me and Kate excellent customer service throughout. We decided at the time to have drinks outside for a bit while we decided what we were going to eat... as I'm a pescatarian I was unsure of what to do, however Alexa came out and mentioned they had a Salmon option. Alexa was also very friendly with our dog too and throughout the whole time we felt very welcomed. We also asked about the camping which we will be looking at doing in the future too. The food was also absolutely delicious and just what we needed after a difficult weekend of chaos for us both. So thanks to all the staff at The Green Man for making the end of our time a positive and memorable one for us both. We will definitely be coming again ✌️

Superb, independent pub. We had a roast dinner and an Irish stew. Probably one of the best bar lunches i’ve had in a long time. Staff were friendly and couldn't do enough. Highly recommended eclectic relaxing country pub.

Not a fan of bottomless brunches in general, only went for my daughter’s birthday. The food was so horrid it was actually amusing, I thought it was our complimentary starting platter , not a main meal to share with 6 of us 😂 chips, spring rolls and small pieces of chicken that looked and tasted like icelands’ finest. If you’re going for the food don’t bother 😂 The drinks, atmosphere and service top notch though, the bingo is good fun, time flew by. You get your monies worth with the drinks alone, glasses were never empty. Up the food quality and portions and this place will do well.

Been here a few times, and due to husbands illness...on my own. I have been treated so well, like we live here rather than visitors. Absolutely love this bar, thanks to bar staff, owner and locals. Wouldn't go anywhere else x

Really good, with excellent service, attention and warm reception marred by a couple of minor niggles. We visited here on a Friday about 5 pm. The bar was busy and the restaurant filling up. Really good food. One of us a vegetarian was a bit stuck for choice as on the last visits had the mushroom stroganoff, despite being good it would be good to have other options other than cheese and onion pie. Agree not many veg on offer. The biggest niggle was the really annoying children running around in 5he dining room. Whereas I appreciate it isn’t the fault of the pub, the parents should be told to control them. It will affect if we return

I came for a Birthday meal. The staff reserved a selection of tables ready. The staff are friendly and helpful. However, if you don't order the carvery, food takes a long time to come out. Some of our guests waited up to 40 minutes for burgers and pizza well after everyone else had eaten. Also, the air con either doesn't work or wasn't on and everyone was uncomfortably hot. I presume the air con doesn't work as it looks terribly old looking and the walls had water stains from condensation. There's no windows to open and it made it an unpleasant experience. Aside from the heat and the slow service, there wasn't any other complaints.
