Popped in for breakfast as we were intrigued at their "build your own breakfast"! So we did. 2 x poached eggs on one toast; 2 times scrambled eggs on 1 toast and 1 Americano. The food was simple and perfectly cooked and the bill was under £10 in total. Bargain and we're definitely returning for brunch next time. Well done The Green House. Fab food and excellent service :)

We stopped at the Green House for sundowners. Some weeks ago. On the table next to us a couple had ordered a mezze platter to share. They were enthusiastic about their choice. We vowed to come back to try the mezze platter ourselves. Today was the day.And it did not disappoint. We had completed a 10km walk and were ready to eat. Food presentation was beautiful , fresh and absolutely delicious. £11.90 for this deliciousness. Definitely we will return. And as an added comment, the toilets were were the cleanest I have ever seen.

The waitress was lovely and the service was fast, but as I was eating my food I found not just one, but a couple of pube hairs in my baked beans which was absolutely vile and off putting and ruined the whole meal. When we told the waitresses about it and showed them the pube, they did agree that it looked suspicious but said that it wasn't a pube... And didn't report it to the manager, give us a discount, refund or anything to compensate for experiencing this vile event whilst eating 🤢As someone who works in a cafe, this is totally unacceptable and I will never ever return as my experience clearly implies this cafe in not hygienic at all!!! *Fyi- this happened a few months ago, forgot to leave a review straight after it happened, but recently got reminded of it and was advised to leave a review to warn others. Wish I left a review straight away though!

Ordered a tuna and red onion panini, took a while to come and then was served a tomato and red onion one with a tiny bit of tomato and a sliver of red onion; when I went to pay bill I was challenged when I asked for the cost of the latte to be deducted as a compromise; yes, I ate the panini but that’s because it took a while in the first place; the error was theirs, I wasn’t paying £7.50 for the wrong order so getting £3 off seemed fair. “ well I’ll do it this time but you did eat it” There won’t be a next time as we won’t go back with that attitude to a mistake.

I do not think in all my years I have used such a poor establishment. The food is overpriced and average at best. Further most the owners are rude and unprofessional. It is clearly obvious when you go in that there is a very hostile environment with the owners and the staff and there was numerous times you could see this when the waitress staff were being shouted at by this cantankerous old man. The 2 other girls working there does not have legal contracts and in old town peoples knows they don't paytheir employees. I left after one hour and the refused to paye me. My husband and I went in here on Sunday for our breakfast. The prices were quite expensive but we thought it would be cooked to a high standard. Unfortunately we never got to find out because after sitting there for about 10 minutes while the owner finished his own breakfast off and nobody even asking us if we wanted a drink was bad enough but when another couple came in that the owner obviously knew from a previous visit he went straight to them and took their order for breakfast and drinks while still ignoring us. We decided to walk out and this point and will not be returning there again!

Went in for breakfast. The man in charge was rude and over the top with how he wanted things. Told us we weren't allowed to change anything on the breakfast order. Shouted at the young waitress across the cafe which made her go bright red and obviously embarrassed. I felt uncomfortable in his atmosphere. If he can't deal with customers in a proper way then he shouldn't be working in a cafe. And I've just read other reviews to be horrified about the way he replies to customers who have been treated badly!! An absolutely disgusting way to speak to people.

Found this little gem at the weekend as we were strolling around in George Street and we decided that we liked what we observed was being served to some diners sitting outside the cafe. Decor is interesting with a touch of continental brasserie style. The Breakfast menu offers a good choice of dishes, but most importantly the food served is of the highest quality. I loved the Eggs Benedict, one of my all time favourite breakfast dish. The "homemade" muffins were light and fluffy and of the highest quality. Presentation was perfect. The only small negative was the Hollandaise which could be made slightly lighter. The other dishes that we tried were also outstanding especially the 2 Avocado based dishes, The presentation is truly great and to achieve this it does take a bit of time for the food to arrive but it is def worth it. Portions are also massive!! The espresso coffee is of fairly good quality as the machine is one of the best...Gaggia. The owner is engaging and charming as well as the young blond lady who serves at the tables. Very compact, immaculate and modern toilets. We returned for 2 days in the row as we could not miss out on this breakfast experience. Well done and we look forward to another visit in the future.

Whenever we come to Hastings, the Green Cafe is always on our itinerary. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the food and drink are amazing. They serve the best coffee I've ever had - I drink it black with no sugar, and it's incredible how much the flavour can vary from place to place. Their well maintained and regularly cleaned Gaggia machine combines well with the expertise of the staff to produce pure black liquid gold (coffee, not oil). The home made scones are to die for - the cheese scone is a meal in itself, and is wonderfully moist, deliciously cheesy and fabulous slathered in butter. The dips selection (pictured) makes a great sharing platter, and is very tasty indeed. Smoothies are packed with fruit and a great option if you want something cold, and there's also a milkshake menu with over 100 flavour choices. One day I want to try the gin milkshake, but my daughter had the brownie milkshake this time, which we all tried and thoroughly enjoyed. Next time you're in Hastings Old Town, make sure you try the Green Cafe, you won't be disappointed. We'll be back again too.

I have recieved a reply to my review from June and unfortunately it does not give the opportunity to reply which I feel compelled to do. I advised of all of the reasons I do not feel this place is child friendly and given the reply I still stand by this feeling. Yes I do agree children should not be running around when there is hot food and drink yet my children were not doing this. My point was my toddler is perfectly capable and has been for a while using a proper chair yet we were made to sit him in a high chair. You mention that a lot of your customers feel uneasy with children in the eatery as they do not have children, firstly there were a lot of people who tried to come in with children but left after the shocking reception they recieved but this also backs up my first thoughts that you should be an adult only facility as you clearly do not welcome children or families with children. In answer to your question as to why we stayed, we were too embarrassed and quiet intimidated to walk out given the treatment other people recieved who did the same. We had two young hungry children and just wanted to feed them in peace. I run my own business so I am well aware of health and safety and I'm very sure you have never had to call an ambulance due to a person being injured because a child sat on a normal chair instead of restrained in a high chair and your establishment is hardly big enough for any one to run wild in. I also know a lot about good customer service and repeat business. Reading through previous reviews from other customers who have come in with children, I am obviously not alone in my thinking. If you do not wish to cater for children which you clearly don't, please make this obvious and stop other having similar experiences to what appears to be a lot of your previous customers. Maybe the elderly would be a better source of custom for you. Once again I feel I must warn families with young (pre-teen) children to give this place a wide birth. They have a very big lack of customer service and obviously do not see that their current system is driving people away. Unless of course you hate your children then by all means give the place a try. The cheese scones are massive!

So we were looking at somewhere else for breakfast, but it was too busy - we happened upon this place, it was empty (9am on Saturday morning) so we were unsure initially if it was open, there was no sign on the outside telling me the name of the cafe, and in fact I may not have picked it if i'd have read the reviews first. - So my first tip , ignore the negative comments. We were served with a smile and a bit of banter, very friendly and more than happy to accommodate the special request. We had - Eggs Benedict, New Yorker, a breakfast sandwich, The Works and toast and bacon. The first thing to note is that the portion sizes are huge, so much tasty food. Secondly, the bread tasted freshly baked, and the produce tasted good quality and locally sourced. Things to note: yes the food did come out at slightly different times, this is because it is all freshly cooked to order, was this a problem, no not really. Although I could see that it may be an issue in really busy times. Yes, I think the man's banter could come across annoying to those without a sense of humour, but that is how he makes it a friendly and relaxed place to eat. Value - great value, 5 people all eat breakfast and also had drinks (one had a luxurious milk shake) and it came to £62 Would I have visited again? Yes, if we were not heading home that day I would have certainly eaten there again. Highly recommended

Travelled down from Cumbria to a friends, we wanted a nice little cafe for dinner. Sat down and was fetched a menu over by a young girl. Who was lovely. Went to order, the man behind the behind was rude, unhelpful and unpleasant. Speaking to the new girl who had just started like a piece of s#?t. Our order was a cheese toastie, ham and cheese sandwich, chicken Cesar salad fries & 2 lagers. It came to £47.30!!!! Paid and sat back down. Then on looking at the menu thought it was very expensive. Went back to see him & when questioned he more or less made up prices. Because one sandwich was toasted he added £2 on so that was 6.90 for a cheese & ham toastie. Still questioned it, and the man got really aggressive. Still whilst shouting st the new girl. And he had charged me £12.90 for a portion of chips! Waited around an hour for the food. In the mean time a friend had ordered hers & little boys meals. Which was also overcharged. The chicken Cesar salad she had, had a great bone in it which cut her mouth. She complained and was told by the lady ‘what do you want me to do about it?’

Clearly a lot of the negative reviews want to be served by some sort of starbucks robot rather than an actual human being. The staff were friendly and helpful. The older gentleman was lovely to our family, taking time to gently tease our youngest by tapping him on the head as he served others which amused him greatly. The Food took a little while to come, because it was freshly cooked to order. We placed our order at 11.00 for 2 x full english breakfasts, which with a pot of tea each came to 12.40 each which I feel was quite expensive. After 30 minutes we enquired twice as to how long it would be as we were meeting up friends. The first waitress we asked didn't even get back to us. After 45 minutes had lapsed I asked a different waitress who came back and send there was someone before us and then it was us. It eventually got to us an hour from us ordering it without even an apology. I have to say the breakfast was nice but not worth the money or the wait.

Had breakfast here, almost £10 for a full english. Have to say the food was clean and nicely cooked. But hash brown was cash n carry frozen type. Toast came out 5 mins after the food, though I noticed it was late for the other table as well?? Was that rubbish doughy home pride bread, we were not offered a choice of brown. Waitress asked me for my order, when I gave she wasn't even looking at me and said 'What?" so I had to repeat it. Older lady, related to the owner I think and she lacked interest to be frank, so downbeat and fed up. For the money there are better places to go where the food is locally sourced and I just feel this place messed up on service as much as the average food. Graze do a way better breakfast for very similar money, and Bonjour better for less money, so they really need to check out the competition more. It was nice enough food, bit random to be given 4 chips with the hash brown, and I had to go up and ask if I could have the egg poached, again waitress never asked us anything about how we wanted the food, I should have said at time of ordering, but be good to prompt the customer too. Tried this place once, but cant say I would go again service is just too unwelcoming and food not good enough to compensate. I would have given 3 stars if the service was better. Buy another toaster for gods sake and get newer menus, they were very tatty. Its a great location and the interior is alright (if you like green!) they just need to get a bit more on the ball of what people want to eat now.

Today my husband & I decided to have brunch at The Green Cafe, Hastings. The two coffees arrived but did not taste right as I believe the milk had turned. I had ordered Ciabatta with avocado, cottage cheese, cheddar and sundried tomatoes. First I was given eggs in a bagel which I picked up thinking it didn’t look like what I ordered and then put it back down. Suddenly the waitress whisked it away saying it’s not yours. About ten minutes later a complete mess arrived on a plate. Four bits of toasted bread with avocado mixed together with cottage cheese, a solid big lump of cheddar cheese and what looked like dead crispy black cress, which I worked out to be the sundried tomatoes. It tasted worse than it looked. I then noticed the lady opposite eating the eggs that had been taken from me which I had touched. It was too late to tell her. I did complain to the waitress who just said sorry. My husband enjoyed his full English just a shame that I did not eat and the whole meal was £25.

We went to this cafe on the hottest day possible and we were pleasantly surprised to find over a 100 types of milkshake on offer. We ordered the chocolate brownie milkshake which was delicious. I ordered a Greek salad which was huge and delicious as well as beautifully crafted. My son had a huge omelette and chips with salad also beautifully presented. The cafe is spotless, has excellent and swift service and very clean and new toilets. We had the best lunch ever and although staff seem very busy they greeted us warmly and made an effort to chat. Very very impressed and we will go back.

The best cream tea you will EVER eat, with generous portions of clotted cream, jam and tea or coffee. We have been coming here for years, and we always pop in when in or near Hastings. Old fashioned approach to service, and I understand people’s expectations are now extremely high, but once you’ve been there a couple of times, and smile at the owners and staff, you’ll be fine. Great value for money r the cream teas anyway. See you again soon.

Stopped here for lunch and wanted/needed to pay by debit card. Was told there would be a charge to use my card as the minimum order was £12?? Our bill was for £11.40 - to much choice for better places to eat within this st to be ripped off by a greedy rude manager/owner. - and I will be looking into this perhaps illegal charge as a matter of principle.

Strange, patronizing attitude from the older man (owner?) for no reason. He insulted two of my friends who went there also by making rude jokes about their physical appearance. I'm sorry, but why does he think this kind of treatment of his customers is okay? The atmosphere made me so very uncomfortable, (I actually worried what he might say to me next), that I didn't want to go again even though the food was fine.

We'd been here last September, so came here again expecting the same kind of offhand treatment. I turned on the charm and was rewarded by a beaming smile from the boss chap. He was charm itself. I guess it's how you approach things. We had a chat about my home town (which he knew from years ago). He told me jokingly that I'm a flirt! haha (yes, I was flirting with him!). Anyway, we only wanted tea, so didn't have to wait more than a couple of minutes. The waitresses did seem very busy with other patrons who wanted food but were coping well, in my opinion. The Green Cafe is very attractive, both outside and in. Very nice indeed. Yes, we would definitely go again.

Me and my husband came here Sunday to treat his father to breakfast. Everywhere down the old town seemed busy but this place had some space outside so we chose here. Straight away the owners told us they were very busy and food would be a long wait. This was fine with us, we weren’t in a rush. Seen some comments mention this but if you are warned beforehand then I’m not sure how you can then complain about it. Service was fine, wasn’t the most friendliest but they were rushed off their feet. We manage to move inside as it had gotten quieter. Food was really nice. We all had different things and all thoroughly enjoyed it. I would like to visit again and try the burgers and milkshake!

We were bawled at when we walked in and told in no uncertain terms that there would be a delay. After a lengthy wait most of us were served. They had obviously completely forgotten two of the orders and when we asked for them we were told that it was clear there was a long wait. No apology and no food was offered - just a refund. We saw people walking out after being spoken to in a rude manner. Food was ok but this was not a nice experience. We felt uncomfortable and uneasy. Wish we'd checked the reviews.

Stopped here for a late lunch whilst away on a family break. 2 parents and 2 young children. Very quiet, only 2 or 3 tables taken at the time of our visit to this cafe. Yet it took well over an hour for the food to come out and when it did the order was wrong! My Son ordered a jacket potato with cheese. Over an hour later it came out with baked beans and cheese on top (my Son HATES baked beans). I immediately alerted the waitress who took it away (no apology). It took another 15 mins for a replacement potato to come out of the kitchen. I figured they were making him a new one, but when it eventually came out it was the same jacket potato with the beans scraped out!!! 4 of us were eating but each of the meals came out at least 10 minutes after one another. By the time my meal came out my Husband and one of my children had already finished eating theirs! I watched this happen to another table, who had all only ordered sandwiches and paninis. It is clear that there is only one chef in this cafe and s/he is only capable of making one meal at a time!!! Waitress was so rude too, with not one apology or explanation as to why each meal is served at seperate times for one party. Appalling cafe, in need of Gordon Ramsey! AVOID!!!!!

From the start, it all felt a bit strange. When we walked in we were not acknowledged by anyone. We stood there for a while, waiting for someone to tell us where to sit, but no one did so we just sat down. When the waitress did come over, there was no smile, no greetings just 'what do you want to order'? With a huff! It was like we were an inconvenience to her. We ordered two cokes and two english breakfasts. We were having a look around at the place, the tiles and art work which are quite pleasant, when we were startled by the old man behind the bar. He aggressively shouted 'it's been noted'! In our direction. My partner asked what he meant, as we were confused by this. He said 'two cokes, it's been noted'! Still had no idea why he felt the need to shout this across the room. The glasses that came with the coke were dirty and by this point I felt unwelcome and uneasy. We sat for a long while and everyone else that came in were shouted at by the old man, as soon as they walked in 'Look at the menu first'! Which was a bit bizarre, almost like he didn't want them to order anything and leave! And then the waitress at one point, looked over at me and my partner and said to another couple, who had been instructed to look at the menu, "we aint doing amymore breakfasts'!

Ordered a bowl of chips, took 90 minutes to arrive. Asked twice about our order and got a very rude answer! When they arrived they were just McCain oven chips, very disappointing! To top it all off they cost £3.90

Service was seriously sub par. From the table being cleaned with a cloth that smelt like a damp dirty dog. To the proprietor shouting instructions across the room. Before finally an argument over butter or cream with my scone, which apparently meant an extra £2.60 which he would have to cover!!! Not mentioning the fact that i asked for a coffee over a cup of tea! Cancelled my order and never want to go back to such an unfriendly cafe. My advice. Walk past and go somewhere else.

Absolutely appalled by this Cafe, I simply wanted to have a nice day out with my kids, as they were free from the grips of Karen for once. I decided to treat them with a few sarnies but we were on a tight schedule, I was digusted by how long it took to make a sausage sandwich, around 1.5 hours. Not only this but the main waitress was incredibly rude and simply told our order was lost with no apology. My kids cried because of this and told their mum. I won't be able to see them again because of this. Simply DO NOT EAT here, Uber eats can deliver maccies in 10 mins to your house, much better and lets me see my kids again.

May day holiday and cafe had numerous free tables indoors, my wife went to one of them only to be told in a very rude manner 'what do you think you are doing you are supposed to see me first' no signs asking you to wait to be seated, then I was spotted in my small mobility scooter and was told I couldn't bring that indoors even though premises had level entrance and ample room at tables. Oh dear breaking UK law under both the disability descrimination act and the equality act. Rest assured I will be following this up in the near future through the courts if need be. Other customers outside were also disgusted at this attitude. Obviously they did not need our money. Suggested we could eat outside in the cd, NO Chance, so we went to the castle view cafe where every effort was made to accommodate me. I would suggest that all disabled people boycott this establishment as obviously UK law does not apply here.

Customer service is definitely not a priority for this business. Felt like a hindrance and unwelcome. It took over an hour for a couple of sandwiches and a bowl of chips. We were also overcharged so make sure you check you receipt.
