It was a nice day so thought I'd try here as I haven't been in a couple of years. There aren't any disabled parking spaces and the car park is around the side so you have to walk say 25 metres to the entrance. I hasn't booked but it was nearly empty at 2pm. The place is nicely decorated and it was table service which I love. They did have a lunch menu with smaller plates and sandwiches but I ordered the minted lamb chops with chips instead of mash £15.95. ordered half a lager £2.60. Food came out 15 mins later and the strange but the mint sauce was in a sachet and not on the chops and you got a jug of gravy along with peas. You got three chops and they tasted great and so did the chips,peas and gravy. The staff were really friendly also. Treated myself to a cappuccino £3 and sticky toffee pudding with custard £5.95 for dessert which came out 5 mins later. The pudding tasted amazing!!!! Really caramelly. Bill came to £27.50 which was good value as the food was really nice and the staff were friendly. I'll definitely come again.

Historical pub wrecked by grey paint. 20 years ago this had character and atmosphere. Today it’s been badly painted and furnished taking the homely feel away. Staff were excellent, food cheap and nothing to write home about. Big shame, one of Maghull’s famous pubs sole ripped out.

Will not eat there as I was ignored by the ignorant waitress who was thought talking to her mates was more important than serving me bar staff excellent but I had to get my own drinks from the bar

Food has always been good plenty of choice staff very friendly and helpful good parking .

Couldn't get through to book as the number was being diverted to a hairdressers in Wales. Turned up anyway and no availability, absolute amateurs. Won't bother in future.

We visited as a family of 6 celebrating a birthday for Sunday lunch. Staff were very friendly, food was tasty, hot and the lamb melted in your mouth. Our daughter loved the ice cream sundae for dessert and a play outside in the play area.

I was taken as a birthday treat for Sunday Lunch…..& it was absolutely delicious….6 in total in our party ,choice of three meats & none of us could fault the quality,it just melted in your mouth, beef,lamb & turkey! Crisp roasties ,Yorkshire pudding & piping hot vegetables! Friendly atmosphere ,made to feel very welcome & comfortable Would definitely recommend 👍🏻

Something has gone badly wrong with this place, ordered 2 roast dinners both came cold sent them back both came straight back stone cold the Yorkshire pudding was like wet soggy dough ,we never paid had to go the Tree View chippy. Sunday afternoon and there was empty tables everywhere it’s never been known in the Mogul

Popped in with my partner for a bit of lunch, glad we did ! The food was brilliant and the staff were attentive and friendly. I can recommend the Cubana sandwich, what a treat and just enough chips for a lunch meal, brilliant

Lovely pub . Staff are really friendly and there is a wide choice of food . I had the sweet chilli chicken sizzler. It was gorgeous. Very big meal . It comes with rice and chips . I couldn’t finish it all . My friend had the burger and said it was lovely. Pub is very clean and comfortable and right next to station. There is also a good sized car park to the side . Meals are very reasonable. It was busy when we were in but service was very good from the two lads . Will definitely go again .

My wife, son and I, visited the Great Mogul for a casual drink and decided to stay for lunch. The mixed grill I ordered was more than value for money, it was also the best pub grub I've ever eaten. My wife ordered a small plate fish and chips, also very good value and equally as tasty. My son chose salt and pepper chips, as he wasn't that hungry but this too was very flavoursome. Praise indeed from a fussy teenager. The staff, where pleasant, very helpful and we didn't wait too long for our food. We would definitely visit here again, sooner rather than later. Excellent all round.

Went for breakfast before the races on the Thursday! Greeted with a lovely little touch in a bucks fizz, breakfast was fantastic and the service was amazing! Will definitely do it again

Came in tonight for my uncles birthday and service was beyond brilliant and the food was substantial but not to my taste. But omg the chips wear to die for. Must come back again

I seem to always end up here on the way home from walking along the canal as it's very conveniently placed next to Maghull train station. If you are waiting for the train and have time for a pint this is the place for you.

Just been traveling along the canal and had to stop at a place called mogal. I ended up at a pub/restaurant and got talking to a barman called Jamie. Excellent barman and so friendly. 5stars 👍

Outstanding Sunday roast...served piping hot...melt in the mouth roast beef and lean roast lamb..variety of veg.. tasty gravey well roasted spuds..excellent friendly service £10 or 14 for 2 courses...prosecco £15 a bottle...fantastic experience... can't be beaten this side of the river mersey. Make sure you book to avoid dissapointment. Julie.

Met family here for lunch again. Food was great, everyone very pleased with their meals, service is excellent too. Excellent place in my experience. By the station too so we can get the train and I can have a pint!

Had a great lunch at the Mogul with friends. Service was great and food was lovely. Piping hot and very reasonable. I had the sweet chilli Stir fry . My friends had Cod and chips and Gammon and pineapple. We all really enjoyed our lunch there and will go there again .

Booked on Thursday for Sunday lunch Sunday 5.30 . 28 th January Arrived told to get drink as table not ready , ordered drinks , 10 mins wait for table no problem as busy . When seated told no lamb ,, when another person came to take order told no roasts at all . Came to take order off other menu and just offered a cursory apology when I said we’d only come for the roast . So disappointed . Left after finished drinks . Why wasn’t a meal kept for us if we’d booked ? Didn’t query at the time as it wasn’t the girls fault and she was rushing round . Just don’t think that booking for a roast guarantees you’ll get it , like we did !

Food was amazing here & staff were lovely. Definitely recommend & will be returning soon.

Myself, wife & son went for evening meal. Top notch!! Didn’t have a booking but still managed to get us a table. Jamie took our order & waited on us along with Liv. Jamie was patient & answered questions regarding the menu & went as far as personal recommendations too. Atmosphere was very pleasant, food was amazing & very reasonably priced too. Lovely evening & will defo go back.

Just spent new year's Eve in this place everyone so friendly I think the managers name was Jan what a lovely lady her and staff couldn't do enough for you definitely going back .

Second time I've had Christmas day at the mogul. The last time was 4 years ago and both times the food has been excellent. Brilliant service, great atmosphere and I would recommend. Its by far the best local pub for a pint and the food is always great value for money. The staff are really attentive and we are lucky to have somewhere on the doorstep that provides such great food and service on Christmas.

This is the worst pub I have ever been to and the so called manager ‘Jan’ is the most unfriendliest person I have ever met. I will never step foot in there again.

Little hidden gem, well worth a visit!

This delightful family pub is lovely. I've visited twice, and the staff bend over backwards to ensure your visit is a pleasant and happy experience. I didn't have time to have lunch, but my friends had triple cooked chips? Duck spring rolls and burger and chips with onion rings. All looked delicious.

Stoped here after getting off the train. Great pub grub and welcoming staff. Sky sports on and clean beers.

Always a pleasure to stop off for a pint on the way home.

Had to book as it was so busy, was going to go for my go to fish and chips but they had a special of Philly burger so ordered this. The burger was cooked beautifully and topped with brisket! My partner had a curry which was also delicious. The service is always good so cannot fault our Friday night out !

Popped in for a drink prior to going to a gig. Nice to be able to sit outside on a warm evening. Staff friendly, will go again.

5pm Early Dinner, opted for Sizzler Offer (mon+tue). Lovely platter, Great value. Service was excellent. We will be visiting again soon,!

Went to this lovely pub tonight which has an extensive menu but realised it was curry night, which is great value. The curry’s were delicious and we also had homemade chips which were so tasty. The staff were so friendly and attentive would definitely recommend and we will be back !

We have eaten here before for Sunday lunches and they have been great but today was very different. Maybe the pub has changed hands? The large steak pies were dried out and certainly didn't look appetising. We asked for some gravy to make the filling palatable and were charged for it. Needless to say we left no tip. Won't be going again.

One meal was returned as crust on pie was so hard would not cut and pastry soggy and microwaved 2 steak pies came in there own pots pastry lids where so dry asked for more gravy and was charged extra for it will not return at those prices

I've been to The Mogul numerous times, and it never disappoints. It's a pleasant pub with great staff that are very helpful and have great service! It does get very busy, so it is best to book a table ahead of time of possible. Food is fab, love their Chinese style starters and mains, especially the sizzlers. The steak cantonese special is outstanding! Husband happily enjoyed a mixed grill, which was enormous! Food is always great and served quickly. I would say the only downside is the desserts are not as special as the starters and mains. Don't get me wrong, they're OK, but they could be better. Then again, I have a very sweet tooth! You won't go hungry here! It is well worth a visit, one of the best places to eat in Maghull!

Hate to do a bad review but feel i need too. Always loved eating here, but it was a complete disappointment today. I've always raved about the home made chunky chips but they were soggy and dark brown, they tasted of stale cooking oil and the rest of the meal was tasteless and under seasoned. The bar and waiting on staff were lovely however. Fingers crossed its a blip and it's back to its great standards soon .

I would definitely recommend this place for a midweek meal. Sunday is extremely busy which meant we had to use a table in the bar area which was rather cramped, also the menu was very restricted. I have been here many times in week and couldn't fault the food or the service.

A very disappointing visit this week compared to last year. The staff are lovely, helpful and friendly. The food we received this week was not good. It arrived virtually cold, with very greasy poppadoms. The curry was whisked away with apologies, and duly returned at a much warmer temperature. Unfortunately the curry was bland and the chicken was either dry or had a weird taste. It was such a shame as the Sunday roast earlier that week was amazing.

Called in only by chance, as passing by one lunchtime. Attentive to our food needs, friendly service too. Not a vast menu but most pub classics included, even a fish & chip chicken curry with half and half, lovely!! Home made cuisine, caters for vegetarians too. Spacious area for inside drinking on other side of dining area. Give it a try, we were glad we did!!

A long overdue reunion and a massive alteration in how I remember this place. Fast efficient friendly service and a great atmosphere.

We were there on Friday and chose from the grill 2 meals and a bottle of house wine. My partner had the mixed grill and I had the butterfly chicken both excellent and service was spot on

Went here for hubbys birthday and we’re spoilt for choice with the menu and specials board but delighted with our choices. I went for Sui Mias and lamb chops and hubby chicken wings and the best quality/value mixed grill he’s had in a long time....

Nice roast, reasonably priced, good service. Meat & potatoes ok, could have done with a little more veg.

Not too impressed with my visit. Sat down @ 6:50 and not served until 7:50. Table for two. Only ordered a Steak. (Waited 50 mins) and the pub wasnt even full. Unfortunately the plate I was served was not worth the wait. Small piece of steak with mashed potato and peas. The look of the plate was bare. Portions were small. The plate looked bare. Plenty of peas, probably to make the ate look full. If I was paying for pub grub then I wouldn't expect too much. But prices for both meals were not cheap. So disappointed with my experience. Don't think I would eat here again. But as a pub, beer etc. It is very handy for the train station 🚉

I disliked the food all frozen the carrot and turnip was the only thing that had any flavour in it. Sticky toffee pudding was over done in the microwave and tasted weird. The service was ok can't fault the waitresses who were friendly and there was a nice Sunday atmosphere in there on the bar side. They really need to get away from cheap frozen produce and try some fresh locally sourced veg and meat then this place would be a winner.

Mixed grill was delicious. Staff lovely too.

Really used to enjoy going here but for some reason of recent staff members seem to have a massive chip on their shoulder and I believe that staff courtesy and interaction is a whole part of going out and enjoying the atmosphere not cutting it with a knife!

Great by name Great by nature, Amazing fresh food and a great menu. Most of all the staff are incredibly polite and courteous.

We visited the mogul on the 1st of October 2022 for my daughters 1st anniversary since she passed away, what was a very emotional day was helped by the wonderful manager and her staff, everything was catered for all 14 meals came out together, the...

I don't like the attitude of the owner when negative reviews are put in place in my opinion it is about improving customer services not having a pop at customers who have had a bad experience with their staff. I will be sure to miss this out. I pay for an enjoyable experience not what some people are receiving.
