Lumpy mattress quite possibly the worst nights sleep ever ! No air con meant the room was either boiling or freezing . Bed side lights didn’t work either . Very dated hotel in desperate need of upgrading . That said staff were lovely but trying to make the most out of a of pretty poor proposition! Only stayed as couldn’t get in anywhere else ! Bar prices ridiculous at £6 a pint fora lukewarm lager !

If you are attending Doncaster races avoid this place like the plague! Complete RIP OFF, any pint of beer is £6 minimum poured in a plastic glass ( Prices more expensive then on the actual racecourse), also don't go there after races have finished as you wont get inside the building even to use the toilets! The arrogant doormen will not let you in the building even for an emergency.

We ordered a very expensive (£77.00) takeaway from the new reborn Indus.com restaurant comprising 3 starters, 4 main meals, 2 rice 2 naan and 4 poppadoms with pickle tray. Having been regulars to the original Indus we thought we were in for a real treat. It was very disappointing to say the least. To start with my son-in-law was greeted by a very rude male employee when he went to collect our order. As for the food.. terrible!!!Packet rice with frozen mixed veg, packet naans... Asda are better. Very poor quality lamb and chicken with sauces that all tasted the same. Definitely not restaurant quality or even takeaway quality. We will not make this mistake again.

This is supposed to be the rebirth of the once well known popular and respected Indus Restaurant in Doncaster. Let me say bluntly it isn't! We had the misfortune to believe the advertising blurb and book a table there. The food wasn't even up to a basic back street Indian level. I'm not going to describe the food in detail, the whole experience is still too real. Suffice to say I was a regular customer of the old Indus for over 20 years and this dump is nothing like it . You have been warned.

We stayed two nights at the hotel the staff are very friendly , the hotel is clean and tidy, we had a room on the first floor, the room was large and comfortable with en-suit bathroom, The only problem we had was we could hear the music that was played in the bar area, it was not loud but we could hear it, they switched it of at about 11.30pm , it would not put me of staying in the same room. The hotel is great for the racecourse , only a 5min walk away.

Booked here 4 double rooms for a race night stay over. Very busy during and after the races . Drink prices a tad excessive . However the doors are locked to anyone other than hotel guests around 9pm this is a brilliant idea . Hotel itself is a bit tired and dated . Could do with refreshing and bringing up to date . Water pressure in our room was very poor and as we only had a shower you were in slight danger of actually getting wet lol. Saying this it was clean and tidy with tea/coffee etc. So cant grumble too much. Also decided to try the restraunt instead of going into doncaster for a meal and are we so glad we did. Wonderful range of food all wonderfully cooked and presented and tasted brilliant. Hats off to the chef he gets my vote any day and we WILL return to sample more of his delights. All in all a great day and night was had by all . And we came away from the races £5 up . Win win ;)

Travelled to Yorkshire for a family funeral, looked around for a reasonable hotel, this one was nearest to family. Arrived tired, hassled, fed up, very long journey, not in miles just traffic. First imoression of outside space was "tired" car park not too flat, run down stables at back and weeds along front if building. Nice warm welcome receptionist very helpful put us on lower floor as I have mobility issues. Unpacked went down to restaurant I was not hungry so had bowl of soup my husband had the vegetarian curry, soup ok but I was assured the curry was great. Looked as if there had been a recent refurb nice colours lovely lights.bedroom ok, had to turn radiators off was very hot, beds only ok but bedding lovely and clean, bathroom ok, shower far too hot (reception already aware) the tv came on twice during the night, what a pain, they need to put notice in room to turn to off at plug during nighttime. Good quality cooked breakfast but could have done with fresh fruit/yogurts for choice,

Arrived for Sunday Lunch into a very dull, uninviting reception area. The dining room and bar area are also decorated in grey+grey+black all very sombre and not very attractive. The lunch was equally forgettable. My stuffed mushroom starter was smothered in some strange cheese and herb sauce completely obscuring the mushrooms, very unattractive. Likewise the roast beef dinner was not appetizing. The beef was cooked and sliced to my liking bat was tough and tasteless. Stuffing was served with Beef!! and a huge Yorkshire pudding covered most of the plate. The veg, was served in a separate bowl but the cauliflower, broccoli and carrots were served just plane, without any sauce.

I went on line beforehand and was very apprehensive when we arrived as reviews were mixed, but needn't have worried as receptionist was so very helpful when we walked in. Yes rooms are a bit dated but were spotless clean and we had a bath which was big enough for a proper soak after a 7 hour drive. The staff from manager down to cleaner couldn't do enough for us. The bar was comfy and price of drink reasonably priced, we only had one meal there at lunchtime before wedding and it was tasty (I had nachos with pulled pork topping and the other 3 had soup and filled baguettes) along with 4 wines bill only came to £44.00, nae bad. Firstly do not be fooled by the grand entrance hall. This is not what your room will be like. I fully understand that it's a listed building, so specific modernisation can not be done. This does not excuse the dated rooms. The TV was old, the lighting gave the room a horrible yellow glow and the shade itself had dead moths in. The room looked freshly painted and tbh, to bring it up to scratch as it's name portraits wouldn't take much. New light fittings and the bathrooms need some tlc Oh and probably new mattresses on the beds. Ours had a crater in it....The staff were however welcoming and the restaurant attached is stunning, food , decor and staff. Would highly recommend that part. If you want a more luxurious stay I'd look else where.

I booked the Grand St Ledger as we were attending the Christmas Live event at Doncaster Racecourse. The hotel was very well placed for this just being a few minutes walk across the road. The hotel was very nice. You can see that it is going through a programme of refurbishment and the downstairs bar, restaurant and stairs have all had a lovely job done on them. We stayed on the first floor and I asked for a room at the back as the hotel was situated on a busy main road. There was a little road noise but nothing to keep you awake at night. The corridor on the first floor still has remnants of a bygone era and it was evident where the refurbishments and the new carpets had reached. Although not yet refurbished our room was very nice and reasonably modern, but spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. We slept well and there were no complaints from any others of our party all who were situated in rooms next to each other. The breakfast next morning was lovely. Very generous and service was excellent. Having read previous reviews I had expected quite a wait but our full English was served in no time. It is clear that some significant investment is going into this place and we were pleasantly surprised with our stay here. It was clean, relaxing and comfortable. All the staff throughout the hotel were accommodating friendly and absolutely fabulous. Clearly one of this hotels greatest assets. I look forward to staying again in the future both to return to comfortable surroundings and also to see how the face-lift is progressing.

Met friends for lunch in restaurant which was empty on arrival with very little atmosphere. The place appeared understaffed and the waiter tried his best (despite having a bad cold and sniffing continuously) to cope with serving in the bar and restaurant. The white wine was warm and the food less than average. The prices here are similar to those at Owston Hall Hotel which has excellent service and food. I recommend the Manager makes a visit there to get some ideas! Sorry, but very disappointing and unless you know how people feel you cannot improve!

Our room looked lovely and since we last visited the main areas have all had some very needed tlc. This hotel had the added bonus of being within walking distance to our event venue of Doncaster Racecourse which could be seen out of the window. The staff were all lovely and friendly very helpful if a bit slow service at breakfast when we were in a rush but the food tasted nice.We didn't have an Evening meal this time and the restaurant was fully booked so I recommend booking in advance if you are wanting to try it when you visit. My main problems were the bathroom needed a better clean, the ridge around the sink had other peoples toothpaste splashes on, a few tiles near the bath needed making safer they had sharp exposed edges and most importantly the bed was so uncomfortable with an unavoidable ridge right along the mattress under our backs we ended up sleeping on it sideways. We only dropped our bags in our rooms when we first arrived then we got in late after a hard day out or I would have asked if we could change or if anything could have been done. Also Jacuzzi bath didn't work I was gutted because I missed out on one last visit as we had no time then either. I even followed the instructions which is something I usually avoid.Nice people but definitely some room for improvement.

We always try and stay in this Grand Old Hotel and was amazed when we arrived by the stylish make over the place has had. A monochrome colour palate and awesome modern chandeliers hang in the entrance, Bar and Dinning room, and give a sense of opulence. Photographs over 100 years old have been framed to show an account of Doncaster in day's gone by and make interesting viewing. As always the staff a warm and friendly and nothing is to much trouble to make your stay perfect. The Bar now does a wide range of cocktails along side there normal drinks menu.We always dine in and I can honestly say we were not disappointed, the new menu offers a superb range of fish and steak dishes, which are fresh and cooked to perfection. Also the prices are very reasonable. I had the prepared crab with prawns, salad and the most tasty chips, my partner had the Fillet steak which was cooked to his liking and cut like butter. Attended a wedding reception here last week. £85 a head for the food. Fatty meat, rock hard veg, and gravy like dishwater. The cheese cake that was served tasted off, but they did offer to swap our extremely expensive deserts, for, well, cheap ice cream. There is signs up showing the menu, and the exact same was available for £14.95 every Sunday, and this makes me wonder what the extra £70.05 gets you! £4+ a pint, and the dance floor is so small that you poke your granny in the eye if you try the Saturday Night Fever pose. Also, the gents toilet hummed and you struggled to keep your shoes on walking toward the urinals because the floor was so sticky. £3000+ and it was quite inadequate. Wish I could give zero stars.

Stayed here for race night (madness). Was very disappointed with the parking as when we arrived had to park a mile down the road. When we booked it advertised parking but didn't say only room for few cars. After carrying everything to hotel and negotiating past all the people drinking we managed to find the stairs and walk up. Once we opened the room door I have never been so disgusted! The size of the room was more like a single (my guess is they put the other single bed in there ). You couldn't even walk around with two of you one had to stand aside. And the carpet was a disgrace! Smelly and old. We previously stated in the Earl of Doncaster and didn't pay £200 but that hotel was far, far superior. The bathroom smelled like bad drainage although shower was excellent. No air conditioning just an extremely small fan! And to use this had to unplug the TV. Mind you we couldn't watch it due to the music and very loud talking etc. from just outside our bedroom. (Earplugs are supplied though so that ok!!!!). There wasn't anything about this hotel that we feel was worth the money. £200 is a lot of to stay in a box room with no air conditioning and rotten windows. If they had offered us it cheaper and simply said it is a single but we can put in another bed we would have understood but to try and pass it off as a twin room is nothing more than ridiculous. Needless to say the Earl of Doncaster will get our business in future. So we will not be recommending this hotel at all. The only thing that stopped me giving a 1 star review was the breakfast which was very nicely cooked.

Booked a room at this hotel on a Groupon deal for a weekend up in Doncaster. It's set in a decent location if you're driving in to town. The car park isn't secure so consider your belongings if driving. The hotel's location leaves you with a 12-15 minute walk in to the center, which includes the market and the Silver St experience. There's a bus stop just outside if you're not up for the hike.We upgraded our room to the Deluxe. I'd have to recommend this if you'd like to bath with a friend. The tub is quite comfortable. However, the water pressure in the shower wasn't up to par. The floor is quite noisy in the room. And the bed isn't the most comfortable. Other than these small gripes, it's an excellent stay with a great staff. I'd book again if returning to Doncaster.

Each time we visit Doncaster we stay at the Grand St Ledger and enjoy their beautiful fish meals fresh from the local markets. The staff are most helpful and friendly. The desserts are delicious and generous and very well priced. We love the old world ambience of both the dining and accommodation. Thoroughly recommend both a stay and a meal.

did not stay here so cannot comment on that, we stopped here for refreshments on our way to a day at the races, staff were not very welcoming, it was a bit of a hassle to bar staff when we ordered a coffee with our round of drinks, would definately not rush back, we were going to have food here but decided against it and went elsewhere

I have been here before for dinner a couple of years ago and it was very good, actually sat on the next table to Rowan Atkinson. However, my visit last week was a huge disappointment. Arrived at 10:30 for a wedding reception, the only coffee available was filter, no cappuccino, latte nothing. The filtered coffee tasted like it had been simmering since breakfast service, thick sludgy terrible stewed yak! The lunch was at 2:30 Watery luke warm tomato soup, mains was sliced loin of pork (no crackling) a poorly cooked roast potato, a bowl of very over cooked vegetables to share with the table of ten (not nearly enough to go around) but it was the service that amazed us, only one waiter could carry three plates, the other staff carried only one plate at a time it was comical, by the time all dinners were served (60 plus) the first table had finished eating and the food that came out last was cold. desserts, lemon cheesecake, it was ok but not great and not to the liking of the children, I asked for an alternative, possibly ice cream but nothing else was available STRANGE for a restaurant!?? The waiter eventually fetched my son a apple WOW!! The evening DO a sausage cooked in a microwave for too long sliced in two and placed in a five inch bread cake, likewise with a rasher of bacon. come on, get your act togetherI would not recommend this restaurant at all

Went against my instinct and booked this over the premier inn lake side. Upon arrival checked in and once in our room noticed the toilet cistern was leaking. Due to the hotel being at maximum occupancy they were unable to offer another room, although there was a single room down the corridor that was un occupied and we were given free access to use the bathroom until they could get a plumber to attend and repair. Bedroom was nice clean and tastefully decorated, bed was like sleeping on a pile of rocks. Breakfast was pitiful and no recompense was offered for the toilet issue.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised given the feedback I was given on this Hotel. For the money it was a NIce Room, Wel docarated, spacious and comfortable. This big let down was the services and resposne from Staff. We booked for a business event being held at The Racecourse in Doncaster. When we went to get ready there was no hot water. I know this was not isolated to our room as other guests were talking about it. When I asked about it (after having a cold shower) I was told " I know, I have just switched on the hot water" Really.....

We used a taste card and this made it excellent value for money. The menu was not quite what we were expecting but was varied, and was cooked extremely nicely and well presented. The staff were very friendly. It was extremely quiet to what I was expecting on a Saturday night. I think this is a hidden gem that I would go back to again.

Despite living in Doncaster have never been to the hotel before so had high expectaions. I puchased a Groupon voucher as it was very good value and a good opportuntilty to sample the restaurant. On arrival went into the bar for a drink, it had been a race day but that didn't cause a problem untill at 7.45 they said the bar was closing. I went to the reception which was to my surprise a scruffy dirty little box room with very unpleasant staff, not 4* at all. We went into the restaurant and were served quickly, firstly given the wrong menu because we had a voucher (why different menu?). Starter was very poor, main meal and dessert acceptable nothing special. The service and staff were very untidy not what you would expect in a 4* hotel. The mens toilets were as my husband said "like a battle zone filthy " to say the least. Dont think we will be going again.

We went there after the races , Had to wait til the chef came in ---gave us some crisps !Flashback to the '70's NO !! I do not want a steak (with or without mushroom or peppercorn sauce) sent goat cheese tart back. Everyone's chips and grilled tomato are tasty. Is syrup pudding microwaved?? No certainly not . Chef said it will be steamed! Can it be a warm------please?How incredibly disappointing for us as punters and the staff who have to work there! If you are not busy on a Saturday race night -- no hope .

Not the place it used to be. Gone dirty and the gents toilet was disgusting as it looked like it hadn't been properly and hygienically bathroom cleaned for weeks. Service was slow and staff run off their feet because there wasn't enough of them. The once glorious soughdough bread has gone and there are no tea cakes (at Easter!!!). Such a shame as I used to enjoy going here....but not anymore. For the prices you pay, it is poor value for money. The owners have run the place down and should be ashamed. It used to be great

Helpful staff, pleasant surroundings but food very poor. In particular the Risotto with wild mushrooms and spinach. It was tasteless and no attempt made to present it well or garnish it. Just a heap of soggy rice. Embarrassing as friend was paying. Pie and chips reasonable. Lion of pork very tough stuffing. Talked up big but better food in market cafe at half the price

Wow the food here is AMAZING. I have visited Kaynas many times with both friends and family and cannot speak highly enough. The staff are friendly and helpful in every way. The food is delicious and its the best flat white I have ever had. One if my favourite go to places, a jewel of a find.

Sadly this branch has lost its battle with house flies. AST least they had put netting over the pastries counter but they were too numerous for us to enjoy the experience.
