The Good Intent in East Hampshire

Had a delicious chilli here yesterday for lunch. Lovely friendly pub, warm welcome from the barman, will definitely be back.

I hope visitors and locals alike give their support to this lovely little traditional pub. Great food, warm welcome and fabulous log burning stove. New owners in their first year of trading have turned it around from not a very nice place to a fabulous one. Let’s all make sure it stays this way!

Popped in here as it was listed as dog friendly and my mother and I had traveled to petersfield for a dog walk exploring the local lake and got hungry. So glad we did! What a lovely little pub! The gentleman holding down the fort acting as barman and waiter etc (I presume the Landlord!) was lovely and friendly, welcoming and kind- none of that small pub for locals atmosphere at all! I got chatting with some of the regulars and it seems to be a very well loved and well used local for many but one you can step in to as an outsider and be happily welcomed. Great selection of drinks and it was lovely to see they stock the non alcoholic Asahi! Never had that behind a bar before and I was very glad to see it. The food was lovely, the chips were cooked to perfection and the meze bowl was flavourful and wonderfully put together. I always worry about meze bowls being bland but the flavours were beautiful and very well balanced to compliment each other. We are already looking forward to coming back now that we have 'discovered' this wonderful little gem!

Over recent years I started visiting this pub a little less as it was feeling abit neglected and lacking energy. I decided to give it another shot when I heard the pub was under new management and I am so pleased to say it’s back to its former glory. The landlord and landlady are professional and friendly which straight away gives a more relaxing atmosphere compared to their predecessors. My partner and I also decided to try their pub food. My partner was amazed to see multiple choices of vegetarian options, which is often limited to 1 item at other small pubs. She said ‘this is the best veggie pie I’ve had!’. I went for the lasagne and again must say it’s one of the best I’ve had that is not from an Italian restaurant. I am so happy the pub is getting its buzz back. If you are looking for a traditional pub with lots of character, you won’t find better in Petersfield.

Aaron and Kirsten have recently taken over the pub and are very experienced, having run The Cricketers in Farncombe. They are applying their knowledge to The Good Intent in Petersfield and are doing a fantastic job. Aaron is a first class landlord and the food is excellent! I went this evening and had the pie and mash and it was delicious!! The pub oozes character and history and has a log burner, old oak beams and an open fire. It’s a traditional pub, and a warm welcome awaits. It’s well worth a visit and it’s great to see a pub, exactly as it should be!

We visited today for a Mother's Day roast dinner. We received a warm welcome and given our choice of the reserved tables. The Good Intent has a wonderful cosy atmosphere. The food was excellent- the roast chicken was enjoyed and the mushroom pie that I had was brilliant, with roast potatoes, parsnips, mixed vegetables, stuffing balls and a delicious rich gravy. A very enjoyable visit. Thank you, The Good Intent.

Quite pub on a Sunday afternoon during a autumn rainy day... Nevertheless it was perfect for a chat and a pint in the warmth.

A great location, a short walk from Festival Hall car park. We had Sunday lunch there. Pork belly. Which was very tasty. Lovely old pub, which is very popular with the locals, especially on their live music nights. Good food a good range of drinks, and lovely people behind the bar.

Local to me but if your not a local need to wave a flag to get noticed 😕 needs some improvement used to be lovely place to eat and drink landlord needs to improve or it will just end up as a new house/flat development?

Stopped off for lunch with friends on our way home. Waited 35 mins before we were told that 2/4 of the jackets we had ordered had gone bad when they opened them. Further informed that the barmaid had been back to her house to get some frozen McCain jackets from her freezer. They wanted to charge us £7.95 for a frozen potato. When said we didn’t feel comfortable with this and asked for alternative no apology offered just a dirty look. When the chef then delivered one of the alternatives a further 10 mins after the others had their food it was near enough dumped on the table with no apology. Since all of us have got home we have very upset stomachs and ruined the last day of our holiday.

Excellent spot for lunch, drinks or dinner. Service was fast and friendly - very kind owners. The meal was perfectly cooked and delicious. We had prawns, chicken, potatoes and salads. Beautiful old beams and decor- music was a super added extra too! Dog friendly 😊 highly recommend 👍

Lunchtime visit with family on Weds 10th May. Good value, good portions, honest pub food & quick service. Excellent well kept beer, staff very pleasant & friendy, nice homely, welcoming atmosphere. Proper pub that welcomes dogs & hasn't gone the plastic pub route.

I think that they must have sacked the cleaner, beer was good not a lot else to say.

Went to the Good Intent on Boxing Day with my mum who lives in Petersfield and we found it very appealing with a nice fire and a gemutlich atmosphere and decently priced drinks. Will definitely go again when in the area.

Park outside for free access to peef

The decor is a bit drab and old but that may actually be part of its charm. Limited choice of beer on tap, but wow the steak and stilton pie was the best ever! Ribs looked quite good as well. I would come again if needing a meal as I think in general the food is good here but not a lot else would draw me in..

An attractive pub with pleasant atmosphere and friendly bar team. Dog friendly and parking available just outside. Had a Sunday lunch there - beef. It was ok for the £, but pretty basic - one slice of beef and dare i say a bit like a school dinner. Perhaps better for a pint than a meal?

Beautiful old pub with all the class and elegance as if you were back in history. They do many events with live music etc and honestly very fun vibe and amazing staff.

Disappointed to find plastic grass outside, any natural surface would be better aesthetically and environmentally. Friendly staff, plus dogs welcome and good food.

Lovely, traditional style pub. Incredibly friendly (and that includes the Regulars). Tastiest burger I've had in ages. Real ales are banging: Fuller's, Dark Star and HSB (epic!) If I lived around here, this would be my local. Which means I now have to move to Petersfield...

Blues rock band were on playing old classics which was lovely. Great entertainment, friendly atmosphere, quite a small place where everyone was crammed in but thoroughly enjoyed it.

One of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had for a long time, we both had the roast beef and everything was delicious! Very generous portions as well, also excellent service, which makes a big difference. Lovely to come out for a Sunday roast where everything was perfect!

Traditional pub vibe. Locals propping up the bar, traditional pub food including staples such as Ham egg and Chips but also Burgers and Ribs. Has a homely welcoming feel in the winter especially with the two open fire places.

Old fashioned and unpretentious pub. Drinks rather expensive. 2 G&T and Vodka left me little change from £25. Service fine.

Very old, beamed pub with woodburner. Fairly basic in decor but allows dogs, so makes sense. Drinks and comfort food. Properly cooked Chilli, very nice. Roomy.

Cozy little pub. Not had the food there and was surprised that a pint of soda water was £3. Very friendly staff and good for music and beers with friends.

A very small Pub with reduced menu. I had gammon and chunky chips, which I enjoyed very much, they came with 2 fried eggs, delicious. We managed to park right in front of the Pub which is in College St in front of the Church. We went to see the band playing lovely music. I recommend it.

Very sad and disappointed when four of us arrived for an evening meal. This is not the Good Intent we once knew. Apparently it is under new management so don't expect to get anything like the menu as shown on the website. Gone are steaks, pies, sausages etc. It's mainly burgers so if that's all you want fine but if you want to go out for a good old fashioned pub meal, forget it! We walked out having seen their new limited menu and went elsewhere.

This is an amazing pubkic house every Thursday the good intent throw open mic 🎤 👏 run by chop Tracy and joshy. Amazing live music amazing new talent. Teresa and mick are awsome cannot fault the pub. Or the staff warm welcoming cosy and full of rock n roll... total rock stars ♡♡

Just a warning for anyone booking through hotels dot com. This pub no longer does accommodation, we turned up to find out that they haven’t done rooms for months. The owner couldn’t be more helpful and actually offered to make up a room to help us.

Lovely proper pub. Great food too. Stopped off for dinner on the way to a wedding, would definitely come again if ever back this way.

Updated to 5* Popped in for a couple of drinks and lunch (soup). Really welcoming, friendly and felt very comfortable here. Great service by Gemma. Soup was delicious, compliments to the chef. Definitely will be visiting again soon as able. February 2019 4* -Went for Sunday lunch which was delicious and good value for money. Good service and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Will definitely visit again and recommend.

Was in last night with friends,great night with the group dream weaver and the ale was top notch,silver king and the fresh tracks is a must,very well kept ale..

Went here for first time and I'm a fussy eater due to my gluten intolerance and they went out there way to acconadate and couldn't be more helpful will defo be back

Food was really good and the welcome from management and all the staff was amazing very friendly place to say and have a meal. Was only ment to be there for 1 night but decided to extend to 2 nights as loved the place so much.

We were looking for somewhere to have a roast and this had good reviews so tried it out.The roast came out nothing like the photos from previous months -wondered if it is under new management.It had about 4 other people in the whole pub at 1.30 on a Sunday. Large plate came out after 15minutes.The meat tasted like it had come from a ready meal,potatoes boiled with slight crisp to them and cauliflower cheese watery and bland.The veg was only only thing we could eat.Run down, knife and fork in the wrong order and not nicely presented.Good thing was the lady serving us was friendly.

Stayed here overnight. We were charged for the room without first seeing it. Single glazed only next to a busy road, therefore noisy. Poor quality furnishings, especially the bathroom, where the shower over the bath had to be hand held because the fixing was broken. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was good.

Our New Years Eve show is CANCELLED! We would love to thank the new management of The Good Intent... We were booked for New Years Eve since 01/01/2019. As of the 23/12 for an early Christmas present they decided to cancel us without any payment or notice! New Years Eve, of course, is one of the biggest nights of the year. We have been asked by multiple other venues multiple times throughout the 357 days we have been booked if we were free to play for them on the New Years (some even offered double the price we agreed with the GI) but alas, we turned them down as we were committed to putting on a great show at The Good Intent. Now, instead of Live and Local riffage and entertainment, they are offering Karaoke and a sandwich! As for Andy, the new owner of the pub. I must say, he is very polite on the phone... We really enjoyed being told that we are not his problem and that he doesn't care we are now severely out of pocket. Furthermore, the act of being told we were wasting his time and subsequently hanging up on us was an absolute delight. Quite a bit of logistics goes into preparing for a show. We obviously put a lot of time into all of our gigs, but more so for the biggest evening of the year. It's nice to know he appreciated this by not offering us any of the amount we agreed to be paid and by being very rude on the phone. Let alone the barman who was very, very reluctant to give out a way that we could contact the boss. We deeply apologize to anyone who was planning to come and support us and too anyone who already bought a ticket. If you fans of Rock and Roll are interested in Karaoke (?) then your tickets will still be valid, but fortunately, they are offering refunds. We urge you to support live music, there are plenty of other great bands playing in and around Petersfield and i'm sure they will give you a fantastic evening. It's a shame that a lovely little cozy pub that we have had many successful shows at has turned into a rude and arrogantly managed piss take... #BringBackDanAndLou Once again, we apologize to everyone who had made plans to see us. Under new management, the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. The live music on a Thursday and Saturday is always really enjoyable. The staff are all excellent and I would definitely recommend to anyone. The pub is also dog and child friendly. Well worth a visit.

Came back again ,what a venue,we had a meal with friends which was really nice,chatted to the head chef Julia,great chef.after sat in the bar to listen to the music which was brilliant.new managers there Gemma and Paul,nothing was to much for them,wish them all the success for the future.keep up the good work.

We popped in for a family lunch, The restaurant was empty but really shouldnt have been. We had 3 good meals all reasonably priced, the desserts were superb. I cant speak highly enough of this venue. Staff were friendly and attentive throughout, nothing too much trouble. Will definitely go there again on my next visit to Petersfield.

Brilliant pub with great open mics on Thursdays!

Visited a couple of weeks ago,ith friends,I had the mixed grill,minted lamb chops,stuffed chicken breast on the special board,it was fantastic,all cooked lovely,and presentation great.spoke to the chef and thanked him for a great nite.will be back.

I spent last Sunday afternoon in the Good Intent with sum REALLY good friends. We all had a good giggle & enjoyed each others company. We especially enjoyed the plate of Roast Potatoes I bought for us😘mmmmm-yummmy

Roast dinner was nothing special but looked like a nice local pub. Staff were helpful.

Visited for dinner as a party of 7 greeted at the bar very friendly.Sat for 25minutes before any drinks order taken and these arrived in stages spaced over 10 minutes.The chef came from the kitchen and asked if we were eating as no orders had been taken Food order followed but over an hour later but 2 meals missing.More drinks were ordered but we had to ask again as nothing arrived for another 20 mins.On finishing main course the plates were cleared and we were told no desserts were available as the kitchen was closed!!.We did see the funny side of the evening as it seemed a bit of a comedy sketch but the chef must be pulling his hair out.I had the pie of the day which tasted very good but I think a review of staff and customer service is required.

Food not. Lasagne cold in the middle even after sending the first meal back. Rump steak poor, if a steak knife had been supplied it would still have been poor. How can frozen chips be served raw? Pleasant landlady, beer good, chef needs to go on a course!

We arrived at 4.45 and the kitchen closes at 5 on a Sunday but the Chef David kindly cooked us a superb meal . Very friendly staff from Weybridge very close to where we live so nice to talk about familiar places. Well Worth a visit., caution recommended with the car park though...so narrow you have to breath in!!!!!

Was a quiet pub on a Sunday afternoon good selection of food and drink ,friendly staff.

Nice room and breakfast, but live music on a Saturday is played right under the rooms and it was awful! No warning of there being a band either on the phone when booked or on check in.

Nice little village pub. Range of events throughout the week.

Hadn't eaten here for a while and previously the food was fine if a little standard and uninspired. Apparently they have a 'proper' chef in now - and boy does it show! Really excellent food that FAR surpasses what you might expect. We'll be back again soon!

This restaurant had a good reputation so we thought it was ideal for an informal family 'get together'.. We dined in the restaurant rather than at the bar. White linen tablecloths and napkins gave a very good impression. A wide range of beers and wines at sensible prices and quite an extensive menu The avocado and prawn starter did look as if it had come out of a pot with the lack of garnishing. The fish and chips and the game pie were, I am told, excellent but the mushroom stroganoff was served on a bed of undercooked rice and the beef madras lacked the usual trimmings. Despite these issues every effort was made to remedy the situation and by way of compensation there was no charge for the mushroom dish and we were offered a free desert, all of which was gratefully received. Fortunately we were with family so could have sympathy with the 'kitchen'. We will go again but as a point of interest the menu on offer that evening did not compare with that shown 'on line'
