Rude barman who was sarcastic towards us both and not suited to customer facing role. He would be better working on an assembly line. Ruined our hopes of a nice drink after a 14 x mile SDW walk. Won't be returning.

Our first visit to this very old and cosy pub in Buriton. Lovely staff and great location. It's steeped I'm history and looks like it could tell many stories. It goes back to mideval times and you can feel it too. We stopped for a quick drink and snacks. Dog friendly the menu looked good 😊 Will definitely go back to try the food out another time. They hold weddings and other occasions there and have accommodation too 😉

Lovely village, lovely pub, lovely dinner. We came across it whilst on the South Downs Walk (the village is a short walk off the SDW track). The night we ate there, it was pouring with rain. We had a taxi booked to take us to our hotel in Petersfield (Five Bells was fully booked). Taxi failed to show up. We asked the bar staff if they knew of any local taxi services. Landlord (Les) was summoned, and ended-up driving us to our hotel. What a gent! What a life-reaffirming experience.

I cannot recommend the 5 bells in Buriton enough! We had our parent’s 40th wedding anniversary here yesterday and it was all perfect! Nothing was too much trouble and the owner and team when well out of their way to make this a memorable event for us all! For a large table of 9 (2 of which being young children), everything was wonderful! The food was beautifully cooked and hot, the children were given bubbles and little toys to play with and amuse themselves (which was such a lovely idea), the food and drinks were delivered extremely fast and the team were so polite and friendly! Myself and family are extremely grateful for how wonderful and kind you all were and it’s made such a lasting memory for us! Thank you from us all again x If you haven’t eaten here, it’s a must for your next meal- the roast dinners and desserts are so tasty and the chef did such a wonderful job. I will continue to recommend this pub for years to come! We have never once had an issue! Try this place if you haven’t yet! Highly recommended- 5 star services all round 😊

Wow. What a find. Most hospitable pub I’ve ever been to. I landed here drenched after a day walking the downs. More by accident than design. And I was looked after like a king. Lucy the bar lady went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and at home. I was staying around the corner but if you’re in the area they do have rooms. Call them to book direct and avoid surcharges for the Internet middlemen. I’ll be taking my wife here as soon as I get chance. Thanks Lucy and Dad of Lucy 😀👍🏻😀👍🏻

Tucked away in the sleepy village of Buriton you will find the Five Bells. Authentic Hampshire pub with beamed ceilings and cosy atmosphere. We went with a group of old friends for a meal and were blown away by the friendliness and attentiveness of the whole team. We went on a Sunday and while we expected a more limited menu, we were surprised to see a wide range of traditional options , including some for the vegans in our group. Icing on the cake was how staff were able to split our bill and that we could pay via mobile. We will be back.

Having been to this pub before on a regular basis around three years ago I was very disappointed how it had changed for the worse, Staff are very friendly but when you’re paying £16 for fish and chips and £25 for a steak you expect the venue to be warm inside. When I went for my wife’s birthday the pub was freezing cold asked if they had heating staff said no the fireplace doesn’t work and they had no portable heating, so we eat with out coats on and there was no background music and no nice atmosphere at all and the food didn’t warrant the higher price either, would not recommend and I’m not even a fussy person.

We came here as a party of four for Sunday lunch. The food was very good (two beef roasts, one lamb roast and an avocado and prawn salad). The staff were lovely (competent, efficient and friendly). Our only criticism is where we were seated which was in a dining room with few soft furnishings and a wooden floor, which meant that when a family with two young children (one of whom was occasionally a little boisterous) and a large party of adults who were very noisy arrived, it became very difficult to hear each other on our table. Of course, it's not the pub's fault if they get some noisy customers in, but as we left we walked through a carpeted bar with three tables in (only one of which was occupied by another party of four) and this would have been ideal for us so we could have conversed more easily. We'd definitely go back for the food and attentive staff, but we'd ensure we ask for a quiet table in the bar now we know the lie of the land. :)

We had a lovely day out walking and stopped at The Five Bells for some dinner, what a mistake. The service was very poor, they definitely do not understand the word Hospitality, the owner who called himself Les, seems to just stare at everyone entering, not a friendly welcome. More interested in the local drinkers and making us feel that we shouldn't be there. We were hoping the food would be better than the service but we were utterly disappointed. Very bland and tasteless food, looked like it was thrown onto the plate. Such a shame as it spoilt our day out.

Incredibly mid roast of I'm honest. The gravy was watery and didn't taste of anything. The potatoes weren't fully cooked through and had no seasoning at all, tasted like frozen. The gammon was pretty dry but not terrible. The vegetables were fine, personally would've liked them a bit softer but that's personal preference. There was also no stuffing to be found. If I'm honest I could've made a lot better at home which is always disappointing when you've come out for a nice meal

Well what a find! We were staying at a nearby hotel and hadn't booked a table in their restaurant. We had seen The Five Bells on the map a short walk away and that's what we decided to do. We wandered in and almost literally bumped into the landlord. We were worried we wouldn't get in as we could hear there were a few people in but we went in to the snug and took a table there. The decor fits all around and gives a sense of welcome. Our drinks order was quickly taken then then we were left to Iook at the menu. I went for the rump steak and my partner had the five bells burger. I asked if thet could hold the mushroom and I was presented with 2 grilled tomatoes which was a nice touch. The steak was cooked perfectly and the skin on fries were amazing. My partner had a slight issue eating the burger as it was quite large but he loved it. Clean plates all round. Dessert of the pecan tart and chocolate brownie topped it off. The service was friendly, attentive and well timed without feeling rushed. Fantastic time and I'm glad to have come away with their card. We will be back

We had a brilliant dinner here on Saturday night during a stopover on the King Alfred Way. We were unfortunately staying at the Nest but due to the awful attitude of the Nest’s staff we decided to eat at the 5 Bells. The team at the 5 Bells were unbelievably kind and welcoming - we had a brilliant meal (lovely whitebait!) and some great wine, as well as some great fun chats with the locals. It turns out the 5 Bells has two massive apartments to rent on the site - extremely reasonable price - more than enough room for a team of 4 doing the King Alfred Way or the South Downs way. As the owners are relatively new they haven’t started any massive advertising campaigns yet / so I’ll say it for them - IF YOU ARE CYLING THE KING ALFRED WAY OR SOUTH DOWNS WAY THEN DO 100% STAY AT THE 5 BELLS. YOU WILL GET THE WARMEST WELCOME IN THE VILLAGE AND YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME WITH SOME GREAT ACCOMMODATION.

We responded to a flyer advertising new takeaway service: we're about 5km from the pub. We used to visit 3/ 4 times a year but retirement has reduced our eating out. As we want to suport local businesses we thought we'd give it a go...

Great value, great food, great place. Although we are not locals, Burition is a destination place for us - country walking etc. Everytime we come to The Five Bells - it's perfect in everyway. Sunday roasts here are the best you can get.

We went here last Saturday night for a family meal. This is a lovely country pub with homemade food.We all had a good meal with the “Fish and Chips” being the best choice, all homemade and freshly cooked. The toilets are all clean and tidy which is always a good sign. Only limited parking at the back but even on Saturday night, we parked easily. So we will be going back again soon, I hope.

Everything you want in a pub. Good grub, some plain, some fancy, log fire, dogs welcome, smiley staff. Parking can be tricky so best to park by the pond or recreation field and walk the short distance

Unfortunately, if you are not a local, you are not welcomed here. Staff were cold and unfriendly when we arrived. Made it seem like it was a hassle to serve us. Eventually seated and given menus but the girl never came back to take our order. We went to the bar to order in the end when other tables nearby were receiving table service. We waited an hour and a half for our food and were scowled at when politely asking after an hour if our food was close to being ready. The food itself was lovely and we were very happy with this. This pub allows dogs and there was a big black lab wondering about in there. It seemed as though he belonged to one of the staff or a local but this dog continued to come to our table whilst we were eating and beg for food. Even paying the bill at the end was hard work.

Dropped into this pub for lunch given was in the area at the time and randomly picked somewhere. The food was not quite gastro quality it was most home cooking and was fine for lunch. Service was good and atmosphere had a really nice country pub feel about it.

Remembering The Crown as a warm and welcoming quintessential village pub when when living in Headley some years before, we booked table for Saturday lunch at 2pm. With only another table of four, there was a bit of a wait for food. The real issue was that when we came to order dessert (2 x affrogato), we were told we needed to be quick because the pub would be closing in 5 minutes. Service was dour and unfriendly, food underwhelming and generally poor value for money. Such a shame!
