One of the best pubs around the area, staff are lovely and the crowd inside are nice. You can go for a drink or two but if you decided you want food they are more than happy to serve anything off there lovely menu which I must add has an amazing selection. Many events are ran here from , quiz’s , bingo , singers and bands and it’s really nice to see something bringing a community together.

Recently visited a local campsite and headed out for dinner for the evening. Upon arrival we were told they were serving a reduced bbq style menu for the evening, not a problem. My partner and I order, two beers one chilli dog and one burger. Not only was the wait for food painfully long but when it arrived the word disappointment has never been more appropriately used. The sausage was slapped between two bits of baguette, no sauce, no chilli and burger was the same. For what was close to £30 it felt a bit like day light robbery. The only redeeming fact was that the lad on the bar was very polite and service was good. Other than that castle of crooks would be a more apt name for the establishment.

Had the best burger for ages here, packed with pork and very tasty. Others had a top notch pie and fantastic gammon. I would highly recommend

Great pub. Very nice staff and nice outdoor garden area. Themed food taste of Asia night was excellent . Well presented dishes beautifully cooked. Very good beer.

Friendly staff but food is terrible, only go for a drink. Came for a plughmams and the cheese was disgusting and bread was a small frozen roll that took forever to arrive, avoid.

Could not be happier with this hidden gem. Found it on the off chance and popped in for some food. Superb service and brilliant food. My missus loved the home made sausage roll. Have to admit it looked amazing. Well worth a visit.

We have just moved to the area and called into this pub as it will be our local and I have to say it’s so friendly and welcoming and the Ham egg and chips is so so nice so make sure you try it as not on the menu but Sean will make it for you , dog friendly and as I said really nice friendly pub so try it out 🙏

Any place that has a good hot fire in the bar in December gets my vote and return custom.

Just got there as they opened with my Mum, warm welcome from the manager and the young lady working there, decent lunch selection, and we where also told the menu is also set to change, will definitely be back to try it. For more reviews of local pubs add my snap: stetheman

Awesome pub tucked away in the little village of Medstead. Family run which is always a plus. Great indoor and outdoor seating. Huge beer garden. Staff are always happy and will help anyone. Lovely atmosphere and worth a visit. Always some good pub chat with the locals or secluded spots where you can have your privacy. Huge car park and not on a busy road.

Had some very nice and creamy Guinness here lovely open fire and very friendly and relaxing and the prices are pretty good too

I have been visiting here for over twenty years, through many different phases of management, some good, some not. No matter who's running it, its OUR pub. The lads and lasses who frequent it are genuinely friendly, and regularly help out on community projects. They are all characters, some more than others, but with a common interest, Our pub. You're welcome.

The best time I’ve had in years !! The couple running the pub were the most amazing,great,fantastic,excellent and fabulous people I’ve ever met !! Everyone needs to come here asap the best pub in the world. The greatest coffee I’ve ever had !!!

Unfortunately we were here after they stopped serving food but they were so lovely and let us eat fish and chips there and offered us cutlery and sauces. Thank you to the bar tender 🙏 :)

Our visit restored our faith in people. Visited unannounced and unbooked for drinks and a bar meal for 3 people, but being a Tuesday no food was being served. Both Steve and subsequently Tracey came out into the car park to speak to us, whilst we were googling where we could find somewhere serving food - and offered to cook for us themselves! Ended up with a fab bar meal and drinks especially for us. Very highly recommend this pub and these people. Thank you.

Lovely and spacious village pub. Despite not realising we needed to book in advance we were given food which was tasty and very reasonably priced. The owners were incredibly friendly and accommodating (except to our Liverpudlian friend who - deservedly - got the cold shoulder)! Great pub!

Would like to thank the castle of comfort for doing an amazing job at hosting our wedding reception! It was a million times better than what we could of ever hope for. We are very grateful for them taking the stress away from us seeing as though my wife is 20 weeks pregnant. Would highly recommend to anyone. 10/10.

Good beer but doesn't serve food on a Monday.

Wouldn’t recommend. Called up earlier in the day to ask if we should book and were told we didn’t need to as long we arrived before 7pm. Arrived around 6pm to be told they had stopped doing food. This was a Saturday evening! In fairness a nice chap offered to see if he could resolve it but due to the attitude of the lady cooking we decided to leave. Ended up at the Sun Inn with a much warmer welcome!

Booked in advance table for 12 .2 were children. Saturday evening for our family to celebrate Father’s Day . On arrival landlord/lady said didn’t know you had children, they’d better behave . We really should of left then . Brought out menu , not the one advertised but just bbq type foods . Several meals cold , food cooked outside. One meal of steak was sour and grey , this was pointed out to them , landlord promptly cut a slice off saying look I’m eating it it’s fine . My daughter left the pub distraught that she should be put down like that . He did say that we needn’t pay for that meal but we did as it’s a country pub and we know times are difficult. Even so we were born and bred locally but can catagoricaly state we shall never go back again

Visited this pub to try and support a local business - Very easy to see why the majority of the locals have now deserted it for some of the other local pubs where you get a friendly welcome…. I certainly wont going back until there is a change of management & attitude to customers.

Friendly landlord and regular customers are good at small talk. Food is excellent, bars and gardens are great, overall a great place to stop for lunch (we were cycling)

Booked Sunday dinner a week in advance. For Sunday dinner at 15.00 for two adults and two children. we arrived no welcome, simply told ‘your table was set up in the other room. The manager was not welcomed come over and said he believed we had ordered for four adults. I advised him I was very clear it was for two adults and two children When I booked. We asked to see the menu and was advised it was only Sunday dinner being offered. I asked what the vegetarian option was he told me we had to order in advance and this wouldn’t be available today. There was no prices published on the table for Sunday roast or options of pudding and the website was down today before arriving to look at menu or prices. We Asked us to keep away from billiards table has just had re-felted Children only 3 years old was just investigating as never had seen one before but we honoured his request and Children never touched it again throughout our visit. Chess table in the room children playing has been learning with Dad. Manager did comment it was Glass but was reassured by my husband that they were treated with respect I would not harm his table and continue playing chest. Not sure he was very happy with his response. Ordered drinks and the staff use left on the bar. Manger asked it the drinks belonged to us was walked away. Husband got the drinks himself from bar. The drink was a good size and tasted well from an alcoholic drinks. Food arrived quickly and was a good portion. Unfortunately my personal opinion was it that it was pre-cooked and tasted like aunt Betty’s roast potatoes and warmed Veg from a Microwave. lukewarm food. We asked for beef for the children and receive chicken but I did not bring this to the managers attention. My little girl did ask where her beef was on her plate. Young bar staff who had no idea what they were doing The plates were cleared away we was not offered pudding at any stage. The bill for two adults and one child meal was and drinks was approximately £40. - £14 each adults meal. And £3.50 for each child meal. Would of order pudding but was not offered so we never asked to see menu or options. For our family we wouldn’t visit for a meal again in the future. We payed are bill and tried to say goodbye and thank them for the food but wasn’t knowledge so left the building. Parking was good for the small pub. The pub itself was very clean and cosy with an open fire and lots of laughing from local people in the other room.

This is a nice country pub. The garden is big and has cosy decked seating. The food was great value for money. Would strongly recommend.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch. No welcome, simply told ‘your table is in the corner’. Ordered drinks. No one bothered to tell us to order food at the bar. Eventually went and ordered. Huge plate of well over cooked vegetables, lukewarm or cold meat, cold Yorkshire pudding. Only the Roast potatoes were hot!. Then our bill was wrong and we were charged for the next tables desserts! Young bar staff who had no idea what they were doing and had no supervision Will not be going again

We had high hopes but sadly very disappointed. Both steaks were over cooked and tasted off. Landlady had no interest in making things right, just argued that it was fresh so couldn’t be off. 🤷‍♀️ The garden was large and pretty but a smell of septic tank was unpleasant. We really wanted to stay local but we will not be going back.

Went there on a Saturday afternoon and I'm loving what the new owners have done with the place. Beautiful beer garden with climbing frame for the children, and brilliant owners who welcomed the children with a smile.

Great place, Good landlord, good company, what's not to like. Be back soon.

Fantastic Outdoor Space, Great Food, Fabulous Staff.

We arrived at 6.30pm, after never being to this pub before, which was located in a very nice pub garden, with a children’s play area, which all looked modern and safe. As we walked in we asked about how to order and we were told to find a table and someone would be over to take our order. However we waited and waited for someone to come over and take our order. After 15 minutes, I went and found a staff member who eventually came over to take our drinks order, we gave our drinks orders and asked for food menus as we intended to have food also. We were given menus, which was for the BBQ food only and we were explained that there would be a 30-45 minute for food at the minute. We waited a further 15 minutes for our drinks, that were brought to us not by a member of staff, but by clearly a local resident that was asked to help, who had clearly been drinking, who gave us our drinks that we’d ordered. We waited and waited for someone to come back to us to take our food order, but after over an hour we decided to not stay for food, we made our way to pay for our drinks, we walked into the bar area to pay for our drinks and the lady behind the bar asked our table number, got the bill for our drinks, we said that we were going to have some food with them, but had waited for an hour for someone to take our food order, not a single apology, and a very snide, rude “well you can see we’re busy can’t you” came front the lady behind the bar. Unfortunately a clearly under staffed pub, who have very low standards of service, I appreciate that times have been bad for everyone, but there was a load of tables not cleared, stacked up of used glasses and plates not cleared away. I shall say a lot to improve on here by this pub, clearly they need to re look at staffing requirements and also cleanliness with tidying up after people have left especially in the times we are in at the minute. Food ordered that we did see go out were cooked for per table and not multiple foods at once, this was to the delay of food being taken out. I’m really sorry to say we wouldn’t be going back here until after a lot of improvements are made as stated above.

Went here today for my sons 15th birthday lunch as it’s the only place in the area that does a bbq. Lovely big garden lots of space sadly that was the only good thing. We ordered at 1.30 and ate at 3. Our 8 year old was completely hangry by this point. It was not packed so should not have taken that long. The menu was on a board with no prices and no one seems to know what anything cost. We ordered a hot dog for my eldest which I thought would be nice butchers sausages - it was a frankfurter in an oversized bun. He wouldn’t touch the ketchup as it wa son a Heinz bottle but was very watery and obviously now Heinz. I had a Mexican burger which i had hoped would be a nice beef burger with salsa and avocado but it was just a spicy burger. Food was not expensive but I would happily pay more for a better quality burger/sausage. Also the septic tank needs emptying as it was very smelly and was putting us off our food. Sorry guys we really wanted to love it but I just couldn’t.

Had a lovely lunch here with my mum and dad and daughter. The steak was delicious, with really good chips, and the salad and coleslaw was lovely and fresh. My dad said his burger was really tasty too. The garden is really well kept with lots of lovely touches such as indian wooden carvings on the decking and hanging baskets everywhere . All made for a lovely trip out, would thoroughly recommend. The price was very reasonable too! Mum kept saying how nice they had made the place, and my mum is a very fussy lady!!

Absolutely love visiting here, such a lovely friendly place with great atmosphere, food and friendly service. In this hot weather I am particularly enjoying the lovely beer garden and the barbecue menu.

A charming little pub inside and out. There is a massive beer garden with a great jungle gym for the kids. Haven't tried the food yet, but it looks good from what I have seen others order.

Not been there in 20 years. Fantastic lamb and mint pies with chips and peas. Great staff. A perfect stop for a much missed hand pulled doom bar after a great walk at home farm (Tickley) Hopefully it will continue to stay open after the pointless lockdown and they can get rid of all the “rules” forced on them. Down with the government, Bill Gates and the W.H.O

Nice country pub, lots of charm

I occasionally drop in for a pint on my way home quite late 10:30ish. Generally locals still socialising and they regularly include me in conversation. Landlady chats too. Good range of reasonably priced ales, fire, what more could you want.
