We visited today and will definitely be returning, took advantage of the Priceiswight deal and had 2 courses for 2 people 25.00 pounds.... Was the best Sunday Roast dinner we've had in a long time, plates were warmed, food excellent and service was very good, plenty of parking and noticed they have quite a few offers on during the week at lunchtimes. Lovely location too for a countryside walk before or after.

We first went here more than 10 years ago, it was a much different place then. It was re-recommended by a friend of ours so we went for the first time a month ago and again last night. One word - excellent. Atmosphere, Staff, menu, service, wine, booking even parking (it can be tricky) was excellent. Our new "go to" place!

The sun Inn is a traditional country pub, with welcoming, friendly atmosphere from the moment you step in the door. We decided to pop in for lunch on a wet Friday in July having seen the reviews. My husband is in a wheelchair so disabled access is a must the slope around the side isn’t the best but it was useable however once inside we found a great table. We looked at the menu which was good and has something for everyone really. We ordered the small cod , the Calbourne burger (beef burger with Stilton and bacon) and a bacon and Bri sandwich, 2 pints of cider and an orange juice and lemonade all for under £50 . The service was excellent and the young man was very nice and polite and friendly after a short while the food arrived and we all agreed that it was wonderful and just the right portion size the food really was perfect. On leaving the young man helped us with my husband which was really appreciated and thoughtful. We are going back as this place is amazing. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

My girlfriend is soon to take her driving test and I like, as well as driving around Winchester where she’s due to take it, challenging her with drives to new areas. On this occasion, we were both hungry and I decided to book a table at the Sun Inn and ask her to do the 40 minute drive there from our home in Andover. This took us along some narrow roads from the area of North Waltham (near The Wheatsheaf) and through Axford. It was her first time along those roads, having never even seen them as a passenger, and she did brilliantly. Why start the review with that? Simply put, the reward for her excellent driving along tight, twisty lanes with some relatively heavy traffic, was a wonderful meal in a truly delightful setting. I had the Boozy Moo, a pie that was stuffed full of chunky beef, far better than any beef pie I’d had before. My girlfriend had a salmon dish off the specials menu, and it was special. The food and service were exceptional and I’m sure we’ll be visiting again. I’m hoping we can do that within a few weeks and, fingers crossed, that she will have passed her driving test so that I can try one of the interesting wines they appear to offer.

We went for Sunday roast, it’s the first time we’ve been. It was averagely priced at £12.95 for a single meat, however the portion was small. 1 potato cut in half, a couple of very thin slices of meat, one broccoli floret, a thumb sized parsnip and carrot, a few tablespoons of cabbage and a Yorkshire pudding.

We were looking for a place for lunch and stumbled across this old and tiny pub in a small village. It is very atmospheric, old photos on the walls and an open fireplace. It exudes history. You can eat in or out but booking seems to be normal. The service was little slow at first because a large party had arrived just before us. However the wait was worth it as the bream and shrimp cocktail were excellent as was the sticky toffee pudding. There is also a good selection of ales. The barman was very informative and friendly. Well worth a trip and walk afterwards in the beautiful countryside.

Went for dinner with my other half which is a special night as we don’t get to go out very often. To say disappointing is an understatement! Trying to have a romantic dinner in a beautiful pub whilst they are trying to put the Christmas decorations up around you and other customers. Some of the others that were just there to drink were asked to duck or step out of the way. The food was disappointing, my partners burger was cold and bland, my pie was dry and having seen the mash and veg reheated in the microwave was disappointing. We didn’t complain at the time as the only diners and atmosphere being a bit flat we just wanted to leave. Over priced for what it was.

Visited here for an early dinner, we had a price is wight/wightfibre deal...i must say the food was absolutely lovely, a great attention to detail with every dish, the portions were fantastic and each meal was full of flavour. Its definitely 10/10 for food... The staff were all very friendly and this made the whole experience an excellent all round visit so i would give them 10/10 as well. My own personal take on the venue, the dining area could do with more character, im not going to say modernising as its an old country pub, it just felt like things were missing, shelve above stairs down to lower dining-empty, a curtain pole without curtains and personally id change all tables to match to give it a more dining area feel. The establishment is lovely and clean and im sure the owners will put there personal stamp on it....from us its a massive well done, i would strongly reccomend anyone to visit here day or night.....we definitely will be back

Dropped in on what turned out to be quiz night which was a nice bonus. It was a particularly busy evening so our food took quite a while to arrive and the staff were a little stressed, though still cheerful and friendly. The food was generally good, and the range of vegetarian options was great, though an active 14-year-old boy found the burger portion slightly underwhelming (it might be worth charging slightly more and adding a few more chips or a bit of salad) and my cheesecake from the specials was way too soft (it had collapsed) and the sauce on it was sickly sweet. I'm picking out the negatives there though, mostly it was good, and the prices were definitely reasonable. I'm told the beer was good but I was driving so couldn't partake 😕. The quiz was fun and raising money for a good cause.

Don't let the decor deter you... The building may look quite undermaintained but it's overall great food. The only issue with the food is that the nut roast is too large and mushy and potatoes seem to be a bit undercooked and the servings are much too large to finish! The man serving is very nice and seemed to be working independently (although I'm sure there's other people working in the kitchen). It was quite quiet for a lunchtime, with only a handful of people. Waiting time for food is reasonable and the car park is very large! Overall, a pleasant experience.

This has been a favourite go-to pub for years, and has always proved reliable. I have to say that the food was good on our recent visit, if somewhat on the pricey side, and we have no complaints with the five meals served. The beer selection isn't what it used to be but what is on offer, whilst not exciting, is ok. This said, we were horrified and astounded when presented with our bill to hear the phrase "A service charge has been added" What for? Why? There was no prior notice of any such fee, nothing written on the menus, no mention of any further charges at any time from any of the friendly staff, and neither was there any mention anywhere on the bill of it being optional. That's completely unreasonable by any standard. This was pointed out, and the charge removed in a friendly manner, but it simply shouldn't be there. If the Sun needs more income from it's food offering, it should increase it's (already pricey) charges openly and fairly. A serice charge in an English pub? Unfriendly, unreasonable and unnecessary, and a sad blemish on what used to be a really good pub.

We needed a lunch stop on the way to a clay pigeon shoot, a present for our sons 17th birthday. The Sun Inn is down a lovely country lane, and good parking when we arrived. As soon as you walked in it felt so homely, a couple of families with dogs, the smell of a real open fire and the atmosphere of a welcoming a friendly pub we were shown our table and perused the menu. I had already checked the options on the sample menu on their website and luckily, the Schnitzel was still on the menu, one of my favourites and I have recently had one in Germany in a Beer Garden so it was still on my mind. We ordered our food and were extremely pleased with what was provided. I had a terrine tot start with, served with Piccalilli, warm bread a delicious well dressed salad leaves. The boss had a rather delightful marinated Melon with Olives, Feta Cheese and junior went for WhiteBait which were apparently ‘yummy’. Mains were 2 x - Schnitzel and a steak with a side order of chunky chips. All the food was delicious, I asked for some Cranberry Sauce to go with the Schnitzel, it’s a great accompaniment when you cannot get Lingonberries! Luckily, they had some. Unfortunately our son was not feeling too good and we had to get to our next destination but the food was excellent, service was patient and very welcoming, the atmosphere was what a country pub should be, and often missed in the world of impatience, rushing, high-tech and no time to wait, just absolutely lovely. Give the Sun Inn you go, don’t rush things and relax, you will be glad you did.

One other option, can't remember. But nothing else. Also £22. for roast beef, a little steep we thought. I had pork, a little cabbage, two small pieces of carrot for veg only. Meat was good but small dinner for price. Also £18. added for service charge and we had added a tenner before we noticed. A bit of a cheek really. Not used to this with previous management. Have enjoyed this pub many times , but not today. Arrived at 2.04 only to be told the kitchen was closed. We were not even offered a sandwich. The beers looked as good as ever but my wife was hungry .........

This was one of the best pubs in the area, if not in Hampshire, but things have changed dramatically. The atmosphere is still fabulous with low, beamed ceilings and inglenook fireplaces, but this is no longer a traditional village pub. Whereas you could get a...

This is the second time we have had Sunday lunch and it was delicious. Very cosy pub and friendly staff. Dogs welcome. The ice cream for pudding is made at the pub and is very tasty. We will definitely be back.

Staff did their best but the wait was long and when it arrived it was cold and very poor. Been sitting around for awhile so was dried up. Staff did offer replacement but was past it by then. We had 4 tapas plates and it was only the kofta that was worth eating. Very disappointed

Breakfast ok, bacon awful and fatty and pouched eggs overdone. Server Kathy made up for it with great customer service.

Tried to have lunch here today. It was lunchtime and with the relatively small choice of meals and snacks available, (breakfast stops at 11:30am) it would have been reasonable to assume that demand could be met. Wrong! With only three quarters of tables occupied, my first choice of meal was unavailable due to a lack of potatoes. So, having had to choose another dish, twenty minutes passed before being informed that an ingredient for that was missing. I found this unacceptable and left having been refunded for the inconvenience of having to put up with such shoddy service. I was not the only complainant and something needs doing to improve service in this establishment.

Booked a table online, taking a chance on a place to eat we had not eaten before. My wife and I were with another couple and had the following from the menu: Starters; 2x Ham Hock & Cheddar Croquette, Mustard Mayo. 1x Cajun Tiger Prawns, Asian Sauce, Mixed Leaves. 1x Nachos – Sour Cream, Guacamole, Salsa. Mains; 2x Slow Cooked Rack of Ribs, House Made Barbeque Sauce, Fries, Coleslaw (1x half & 1x full) 1x Quesadilla, Toasted Tortilla Wrap with Melted Cheddar, Onion and Peppers, with added Cajun Chicken 1x Cooked Venison Haunch Steak, Chive Mash, Seasonal Vegetables, Port Reduction, Berry Jus. The food was outstanding, all of our food pierced at the table hot and freshly cooked, flavour of all the dishes was fantastic. I had the venison dish and it was exquisite. Staff were very friendly and helpful, with table service and a good knowledge of the menu. We would all definitely return to this pub/restaurant. Food and drinks were reasonably priced.
