I regularly visit The Fox both during the week and the weekend. We often pop in to enjoy a couple of drinks and bar snacks during the week. At the weekend we come in to enjoy for the various events they put on whether it be a local band or singer or even a casino night! It has a lovely atmosphere, dog friendly and delicious food. Wonderful service from wonderful staff!

Have never been here before but was on our way home from Guildford so decided to give it a go. Wish we had just kept driving. We both ordered off of the specials board. I opted for the Smoked Haddock Fishcake which at £16.95 I expected something spectacular. The board described it came with cucumber ribbons, chives, Italian mature cheese, pickled walnuts and tartare sauce. Well it arrived with a wedge of lemon, full of pips. I now realise that this lemon was probably to add some moisture as when I cut into this thing it was immediately obvious that it was very dry. In fact I was able to literally lift the hard dry coating off the top in one piece. I could not taste any smoked haddock at all due to an overwhelming taste of pepper in my first mouthful. I gave it the benefit of the doubt that it might just be in one area and tried some more but no, it was all through it. Mind you it was only about 1.5cm thick so it was overly dry inside too. My husband then tried a bit and said that it was very strange. I ate a piece of cucumber ribbon, two slices of a pickled walnut and a cheese shaving. I did not eat any chives though because they were missing completely from the plate. Our server came back to the table and I explained my disappointment. I had actually put my cutlery across the plate to signal I had stopped eating. Husband was still eating at this point. After about 5 mins the server came to retrieve the plates, he mentioned that he had spoken with his manager who offered two complimentary desserts. We did not want dessert though and I said I think it would be more appropriate to deduct that amount from the bill. Off he went again and returned and said that he was going to discount the bill by 20%. This equated to about £10 (which I now realise is actually less than their charge for two desserts) but as he presented it as an itemised bill, it showed that this ‘fishcake’ thing was actually £17.95 not £16.95. He had already processed the card payment before I had chance to check it though. He went away and came back with a pound coin but confirmed that the board was wrong. I asked what the kitchen had responded when he spoke with them but just said they had a new sous chef. Incidentally the husband had pie, mash, greens and gravy and it was 50p cheaper.

Having visted this pub for over 60 years I am disappointed with general standard of hygiene in gents toilet as there is still no hot water to wash hands or warm air coming out of the drier - all it does is blow cold water onto the floor, Also all the food sauces/condiments are still within easy reach of any dogs entering the premises as I pointed out in my previous comment. There is a strong chance that any used by a customer have been sniffed/licked by a dog.

Disappointing. I ordered a Sunday roast chicken and a large glass of Malbec. The Malbec tasted like it had been open for quite some time. The roast which is what I actually came for looked colourful and appetising. However the chicken was lukewarm and had obviously been poorly reheated. The best part of the whole dish was the roast potatoes and even those were of the reheated aunt Bessie type. The staff were very apologetic and refunded the cost of the meal. The pub itself looks very nice and has a nice ambience but I wouldn’t return for food.

There are food condiments (sauces etc) which are at ground level by the main bar. Two customers came in with 3 dogs between them & whilst they were waiting to be served their drinks the dogs were licking and sniffing all round the condiments. I suggested to a staff member that they should be kept higher up. The staff member said they would inform a manager. Three weeks later they are still kept in the same place!

Came to The Fox and Pelican for my Saturday off and paid for the bottomless breakfast ! What an amazing weekend ! The brunch was organised by Lauren (the manager) and was amazing ! We listened to Emily Martine sing a variety of Soulful and modern songs which got us all going ! We were served by Sine, she was amazing ! It’s quite easy to feel ripped off at bottomless brunches but Sine ensured we were constantly topped up and got our full moneys worth. Couldn't be happier. Thoughtout the day we were also served by Ellie & Kiwi ! They are both staff that mostly regulars seem to be aware of , always going above and beyond for their locals! Grayshott is an amazing village and it’s no surprise it’s won village of the year multiple times. The Fox & Pelican adds to this and ensures an amazing village is matched with an amazing local that tends to everyone. With a variety of acts performing for the bottomless brunches , I will definitely be returning ! £35 is genuinely a bargain ! Would also recommend the pub quiz hosted by Stephen, amazing atmosphere , his voice resonates throughout the pub and he makes it so exciting. From, a happy new regular to this pub.

We have been coming to this pub for over 20 years as the location is convenient. On this occasion the mains were delicious as always but the dessert was disappointing. We asked for custard and was told there was only enough for 3 servings which was fine as only 3 people wanted custard. When it arrived it was literally a teaspoon of custard , how was that a serving , we asked the waitress if we could have ice cream as the serving wasn't acceptable. There was a long wait but eventually the ice cream arrived. The next day we were splitting up the bill as there were 11 of us to see that we were over charged. I contacted the fox and pelican by email pointing this out and a lady called Emily responded full of apologies and said a refund was available how much would we like, which I thought was a strange reply . I replied to her email but didn't receive a reply back so sent another email and a week later still no reply. Shocking customer service and sadly we won't be going back. UPDATE Received an email after I posted this review, refund has been applied .

I recently had a disappointing experience at The Fox & Pelican for Sunday lunch. While I had booked a table specifically, upon arrival, I found the designated area overflowing with dogs. Although the staff kindly moved us to the "non-dog" section, the issue persisted as patrons continuously brought their dogs into the public bar, leading to a domino effect of barking throughout the establishment. The overall environment became quite chaotic and frankly, unhygienic for a pub serving food. While I understand some establishments are dog-friendly, the sheer number of dogs (at least 15-20 by my estimation) significantly impacted the dining experience. It goes against the basic hygiene standards expected in a restaurant, especially one that prides itself on its food. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend The Fox & Pelican in its current state, especially for those seeking a peaceful and hygienic dining experience.

After a long day took my daughter for dinner 18:00 on a Tuesday. For me, Chicken pate to start, toast was cold, the main which was beer battered haddock had been fried to death. They did bring gravy for my daughters chips though so forgiven. However, ordering desert at the bar one uses normal manners “may I have the fish please” to which the reply was “that’s ok” I’m pretty sure it’s ok, no one asked how my dinner was or I would of told them what is mentioned here. We have always liked this pub, so decided to have a meal on the spur of the moment after walking our dogs nearby. We ordered the trout salad and Ham egg and chips. The latter was lovely, but the salad was terrible! The rocket was limp, as it would be if a few days old and left in the fridge, and very sparse on the plate. The dressing was non existent. The trout had a nice flavour but again was dry and seemed like it had been sitting around in a fridge for a few days. Sorry to write this but for as pubs are struggling to attract customers I feel they need to offer a consistent and decent standard of food. This was around £45 for 2 pretty basic plates of food, a shandy and a beer. We wont be back for a while as we would rather spend the limited amount we have to eat out somewhere where the food is better.

Food was nice enough. Not huge portions. Big downside was the inflexibility of the menu / staff. Along with several other meals, ordered a plant based burger, the menu stated this came with chips. When I asked if I could swap the chips for sweet potato fries ( same price on the sides menu ) was told I could not do that and would have to purchase the sweet potato fries as an additional side. I questioned it and was told in no uncertain terms that this was not negotiable. Pretty penny pinching from this pub chain. Wouldn't recommend if you have any special requirements. Disappointing

Turkey was unusually dry. Which is saying something, becuase turkey is dry anyway. Stuffing wasn't nice to be honest. They got it all wrong, way too many herbs, tasted like soap. Other than that... Dropped into this pub for lunch given was in the area at the time and randomly picked somewhere. The food was not quite gastro quality it was most home cooking and was fine for lunch. Service was good and atmosphere had a really nice country pub feel about it.

Rude barman who was sarcastic towards us both and not suited to customer facing role. He would be better working on an assembly line. Ruined our hopes of a nice drink after a 14 x mile SDW walk. Won't be returning.

Remembering The Crown as a warm and welcoming quintessential village pub when when living in Headley some years before, we booked table for Saturday lunch at 2pm. With only another table of four, there was a bit of a wait for food. The real issue was that when we came to order dessert (2 x affrogato), we were told we needed to be quick because the pub would be closing in 5 minutes. Service was dour and unfriendly, food underwhelming and generally poor value for money. Such a shame!
