The Good Hood in Wirral

Fun place, love the quirky decor. We used to LOVE the pizza before they changed the menu to the pizza slabs, and we’d drive 45 mins to visit here. Really disappointed with the change in pizza base as we just don’t enjoy these anymore. Ideal location for the beach and lake, we would also come for a walk before eating and as it’s dog friendly this suited all our needs. Please bring back the thin pizza bases! The loaded Cajun fries are still yummy :) staff friendly and welcoming.

Eight of us went for a birthday meal, Cedric the barman/waiter was amazing, the food was lovely, beautiful nachos to start, then all eight meals came out together, all hot and freshly cooked. The cocktails were sooooo nice, I’d definitely recommend and will return soon

Was looking forward to trying food at the new restaurant in Southport. We had ordered food and drinks, and 5 minutes later, we were told there would be no food served as all the kitchen staff were leaving due to a dispute with the management. I hope this issue can be sorted out soon. However, I will not be returning any time soon as I feel customer service was seriously lacking today. I would urge anyone to phone first before visiting as no one could say how long this staff dispute would last.

Visited the new Southport one it was fantastic great atmosphere delicious food and amazing staff definitely recommend

Visited the Southport restaurant last week and the food was honestly, incredible. The prices are slightly high here but the quality of the food was amazing. Will definitely be coming again. Service was also really lovely 😌

Updated after a recent visit (17/02/2024) I have to say it was pretty good at the hood. The food is great value, fresh and there plenty of it. We ordered a couple of burgers, house slaw, fries and a mac n cheese. The burger was very tasty, loaded with toppings. The slaw was fresh and the mac n cheese was massive, but need a more cheesey'ness to make it amazing. The fries were hot crispy and perfectly seasoned. All the food and two beers for £55 👍. On the whole the food was pretty Funkin good, and the shabby chic atmosphere is perfect fit for the restaurant.

Three of us came for a family birthday. Two of us had pizza and the other had beef burger. Portions were good and the food was great. Cajun fries are a must! We came at a quiet time of day so there were not many people in there. Service was quick. All round was a very good experience, and we will be returning at some point.

We came to the New Brighton restaurant on Saturday January 13th, I was going to purchase a groupon voucher but then saw there was 50% off all food. We came for my birthday and there were 10 of us eating. The cocktails were really tasty, and the food was absolutely fabulous. We ordered a mix of burgers, halloumi fries, chicken, mac n cheese, I had chicken bacon and waffles with maple syrup - was gutted I didn’t read the menu properly and I could have asked for extra syrup as it’s limitless! The chicken was piping hot, and the fried pickles were amazing!! The staff were great, really friendly and helpful, the girl who served us was lovely. Everyone was really impressed with the food and for 10 people our Bill worked out at £13 per head including drinks. We were so impressed that we are going again this weekend! My new favourite place to eat!!

Absolutely awful. Service was virtually none existent, only one waiter for the whole restaurant. Ordered pulled pork nachos to share as starter and they arrived frozen in the middle! Can only assume the pork had been frozen and was being (badly) reheated. Didn’t even get an apology, just ‘I’ll get you another’ from the waiter. We told him to leave it as had waited long enough with a young child. The burgers were nice, fries a little overdone and too salty. Our sons nuggets were fine. No one asked how our main meal was or offered to get us drinks etc. No apology for out spoilt night out. Once foods served frozen you kind of lose your appetite. Please note we visited the New Brighton restaurant on Sunday 14th January. We have previously been to the West Kirby venue and found food and staff were amazing!

We went to The Good Hood as a family of 5 last night. It was the first night of their new menu and the food was amazing!! The restaurant was busy but the staff coped well. The flavours of the food are so good, the only niggle from my husband was that he couldn't have a burger because they use butter and the buns are brioche so a version for people who have an intolerance would make it perfect for everyone 🤩 (he did enjoy the Vegan pizza though!)

Over cooked bun burnt, brittle bacon very well incinerated so lacked the taste, smothered in sauce , tasty but discovered the joy chicken burger was so thick had to cut it a part to eat maybe 2/3thirds of it … thank goodness for the sauce

Best burger we’ve had and the fries were home made and an absolute surprise! So unusual to have everything to this high standard. Service and drinks were great too. Really good value made it a great experience.

What an amazing place! Decor is amazing and the food is incredible. Atmosphere was lacking because we went about 2pm in the afternoon, that's all. I would go here ALL the time if I could but we drove 50 minutes to go and it's totally worth it! My little boy had the best birthday meal, thanks guys! X

A must come back Restaurant! The food was excellent and most especially the service. Mohammad and Bhabi were brilliantly attentive with our needs. A definitely recommended place to come if you are in the area. The ambiance is outstanding and it’s really a nice experience to come here.

This is not your usual high street burger joint: the beef burgers are amazing and feel like a super tasty treat but don't feel heavy or greasy. Just like what we had during our trip to America this year. We came this time for a family meal out and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the atmosphere. I had the "I am special" burger which I would recommend. I've also had the fried chicken burger here twice before and loved it: crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. Obviously the food isn't supposed to be healthy so we can't eat here every night(!) but very much looking forward to our next visit.

Been a few times now and every time the food is always delicious, the fries have to be ordered separately but they are most definitely worth it and the prices are all reasonable. You always receive a voucher for 2 for £10 cocktails upon purchasing cocktails which I think is a great concept. Overall great experience and great food.

Came here for tea the other day, with my partner. We were welcomed and sat quickly and our order was taken. There was a little bit of a wait for food, but our drinks arrived swiftly. The food was very good, hot and freshly made the liquid cheese dipping sauce was amazing.

Sat outside in the lovely garden at the back. Ordered 3 burgers, a hotdog, artisan fries and homemade coleslaw. Everyone raved about their food. I had the hotdog with various toppings and it was probably the best I've ever had. The sausage was lovely and the bread so light and crispy. Big portions too. Had a couple of cocktails which were also lovely. My daughter and her partner have just moved to the area and this will defo be on our list to return to when we next visit. A lovely experience. Food was lovely, good size portions. We had the buttermilk chicken to start and the signature burger with artisan fries for mains and it was spot on. £3.75 for a small glass bottle of Coke was a little expensive but otherwise all round good visit....

Food and drinks were good. A nice range to choose from. The only thing I'd say it to make sure your menus are clean as so many people touch them so a clean menu should be a bare minimum really.

We went with the intention of having food and some drinks. On arrival, we noticed some food sitting in the hatch waiting to be served. We waited at the bar for a while, and so did the food in the hatch. We decided to just get some drinks whilst we thought about what to do, but it took a very long time to get served. To be fair, it wasn't the guys fault. He was the only staff member in there, and he was cooking the food, serving the food and drinks. He was friendly too but looked like he could have done with some help. We decided against food in case it would be sitting round. Some nice artwork in the back. Pints were £6.50.

Wanted to try this place out as the menu sounded delish an funny. We sat outside in the booths which was nice. The food was just OK, Fries were not good. Greasy and limp. Someone at next table had vegan coloured burger buns which looked amazing but my biggest gripe was bathroom. My 6yr old son was petrified. It's very dark an a bit sinister . Whilst washing hands, spray painted under mirror was 'u ugly' which at my age doesn't really bother me but felt it was an awful negative statement when someone looks in mirror. The toilets felt like a demon pit. Bloody awful

Easily the best pizza and burgers in WK! The mac cheese is incredible too! This my go to place when I’m looking to treat myself. A+

We were originally booked in for a birthday meal in New Brighton 'Good Hood' but on the day the inexplicably cancelled the booking but promised us a table for 6 in West Kirby. So we drove to West Kirby and on arrival was told our table had been given to someone else. So we had to split and two of us sat on an adjacent table. Disappointing for a birthday celebration. We then ordered food and drinks at the bar. Pizza was mysteriously not available so we had to have burgers. The drinks took 30 minutes to arrive and the polite staff had to be reminded of the cocktail drinks order as they had completely forgot. The drinks were quite expensive @£6 for a draught lager and £3.75 for a tiny bottle of coke from the fridge. Cocktail was of a good quality. Food for two of us arrived after around 40 minutes and after 65 mins the second pair of meals arrived so we were not breaking bread together. The burgers were excellent. 2 thick patties with other gubbins and some very tasty thick bacon on there too. Very nice indeed. However, the fries had not been cooked in fat at an adequate temperature so they were soggy, greasy and inedible. They knew how to do it right as two of the fries portions were actually ok out of the six. So overall it was a very disappointing experience. From booking weeks in advance to have to drive 10 miles to not get a table (to sit not together) was very disappointing to the person celebrating her birthday and killed her enjoyment. Subsequently it is impossible to big-up Good Hood. Maybe with more staff it works but on this Wednesday it just didn't. The burgers was great but the hour fries being greasy was the final straw.

One on the best burgers I’ve ever had, the sauces on it gave it so much flavour the patties were cooked really nice, really like the chips I got the Cajun ones and had a really nice spicy mayo dip with them my partner got the meat pizza and loved that too, can’t wait to come back

I personally haven't been in the restaurant, but from what I can see from the pictures it looks good, unfortunately though I have tried 3 too 4 time to get a table in West Kirby and new Brighton. and all these times it has been declined because no staff , closed on Monday when it says online opens at 4 pm or just saying the time has already been booked but didn't give me any of that information on the website, also tried calling hasn't worked and the one in new Brighton hasn't got a number to there website personally I think this infuriating and bad customer service.

I'd heard lots of good things about the Good Hood on Facebook so we visited earlier this week as a family. Interior decorations were fun and bright which was nice although I'm not sure at what cost - I visited the toilet with my daughter...

We visited your New Brighton branch on 11th of May 2023 for dinner, the food was delicious, the drinks were fabulous and the staff were very helpful…especially our young waitress who reminded us that the bar closed at 9pm as it was a week day...

Waited 20 minutes and didn’t get served, asked for a waiter and waited another 10 after which I left, ruined my night, lame service when two of the staff are chatting at the bar the whole time, won’t be back.

Myself and my family were looking forward to a day out in west Kirby and the Goodhood seemed up our street, however after purchasing through groupon we had a call to cancel the booking from the restaurant as they no longer accept groupon vouchers. Much to our bemusement as they are clearly still available on the groupon website. We were very disappointed but accepted it as one of those things, my partner then received a torrent of abuse from a gentleman call Richard Fergie (restaurant staff) basically calling us “stupid” for booking it and “cheapskates”, these can be clearly seen on Google and Facebook review facilities as we have posted them for anybody to look up. Furthermore Richard I would suggest that if you are looking for a long term career in hospitality then my advice would be to refrain from insulting customers before they have stepped foot in your restaurant. We certainly won’t be heading up to Goodhood now and will ensure our friends and family along with anyone who wishes to access these reviews is rightly informed of the unprofessional nature of this individual.

This place has the best burgers. My husband is very fussy when it comes to food and he really enjoyed his choice of burger "Comfort", in his words "Stunning". They also had a vegan menu and I had the "Pretty fly" that was very tasty....

My problem is with the service. We ordered our food at 1902hrs and Just Eat said our food would be with thin 45-90 mins. We were a bit surprised by the time but as its a small business we accepted it. It actually took over two hours for the food to arrive, which is just unacceptable. What upset me most was that nobody from The Good Hood had the courtesy to let us know our food would be so late. I actually called after an hour to see how long it would be and i was told it would be ready in 7 minutes, obviously this wasn't true. This was our treat for our two girls and eating after 9pm is way too late for them. I like to support local businesses and I don't like giving bad reviews but in this case I think they need to know that service like this is not acceptable.

We choose this place on one of our random date nights, it was amazing the food was great and The dessert menu idea was brilliant would definitely recommend any to give this place a go we definitely will be returning for another try at something on the menu 😀

I love supporting local business, but guys, you have a few things to sort, in my opinion. 1. Marketing on the tables...Great idea to scan for adverts, but don't advertise what you no longer sell. For examples donuts on offer but you no longer do that, and no desserts other than cheesecake. 2. Your menu is deceiving. 2 for £10 on cocktails, but only when you come back next time. 3. Service - please train the team when they leave the table after serving the meals to check everyone has their meals, shouldn't have to ask 5 minutes after where are final meal is, then find out order was wrong and one person has to sit for another 10 mins and eat on their own. Got the feeling tonight out. The server was overworked. It looked like she was trying to cover the whole restaurant. No check back to us. No chatting to build rapport or make us feel welcome. We had come for a special birthday. A smile and farewell cost's nothing at all. 4. Price/drinks - £3.75 for a bottle of soft drink. I understand that costs have inflated in the business, but really. No bottled water, no soda.. 5. Food - It looked like old oil was being used. Really, really greasy fries and oil soaked fried chicken bites. No mayonnaise, there are shops 2 minutes around the corner. I mentioned to the server my daughter had not eaten most over her burger, but it was virtually raw. No apology, just took it away. I am really sorry to give this review, but some real customer service and attention to detail and fair pricing are sorely needed. Spent well over £100, but I don't think we will be back, which is a real shame. Please make your customers feel valued and give value with great great service and only advertise current promotions.

Food was nice, but very overpriced and the portions were small. I was surprised that fries didn't come included with the price of the burger, I got a Pure Joy (which was absolutely gorgeous) at £9.75, and artisan fries for £3.50 but I left hungry still, as did my husband who had a Signature burger and Cajun fries, not what you want when you have paid £30 in total for 2 meals. We were also charged £2.50 for a glass of lime squash and water. The music was ridiculously loud for a small eating venue, it was very off putting and I could hardly hear the waiter speaking to us. The decoration was funky, but overall it was a disappointing experience despite the social media hype.

First time here today, definitely won't be the last, I'm Vegan as are my son an daughter and having seen they had a good selection of Vegan options decided to check it out, food was amazing,can't fault it in anyway, service was brilliant and the inside is quirky with a really good vibe, and if you share your Vegan options on social media you get a 20% discount which was an added bonus, love finding new places and the Good Hood is a little gem.

Fantastic service, atmosphere and most importantly - food! Had the Comfort burger, Challoumi burger and the Give it a Bash burger, all excellent and such great flavours that make this place really stand out. I recommend the curry mayo, goes perfect with the artisan fries....
