Nickel City in Wirral

I would give this no stars if I could. We arrived at 5.45pm today for our 6pm booking for a Sunday roast to be told in an offhand way that “the kitchen closed early at 5pm”. In checking their book they had to admit that they had our booking, but had closed the kitchen without checking or phoning (they had my phone number). So we were left with no food and too late to go anywhere else. Totally unprofessional and the poorest customer service. Avoid at all costs.

Food, drinks, ambience, this place has it all. You HAVE to visit.

The food is insane at Nickel city, I've been 3 times now just for a braised rib eye sandwich and I've also had the pizza which was tremendous. The place is only small and they have put a lot of tables in there so it's a bit cramped. There is outside seating so I'd recommend putting heaters out there to encourage people to sit outside. Service has improved on each visit and the staff are great and attentive. Food is delicious and the beers have changed every visit which is nice to see. I look forward to visiting again very soon!

Lovely lunch today to celebrate my step-dad's birthday! Food was delicious and thank you for explaining poutine to us! My grandmother and step-dad found it delicious. My gluten free small plates were to die for! Cosy place, good vibes.

Great place to come for delicious food. The steak sandwiches are so tasty and the Denver Tots are yummy. This is our second visit here and we will definitely come back. The staff are lovely and friendly too.

Simply put the best pizza ive had. In a world crammed with 'authentic italian' pizza restaurants this place stands out with incredible quality ingredients and amazing string pull cheese on deep, soft and crispy edged square bases. Will be back for more!

We turned up without a booking (probably not advisable). There were a couple of tables, but we chose to sit outside. The staff were super friendly and the pizza was so good! We will definitely go back

Good atmosphere, with great food and service, i had the Philly Steak Sandwich, and my wife had the ruben along with the baby baked potatoes drenched in smelly swiss cheese. ABSOLUTELY AWSOME.

Called in to try the food and drink at lunchtime today. They had a very good selection of beers and ales for a restaurant, you normally don't get a good choice but I was impressed as the IPA was very good. Tried out the Big Meaty focaccia and it was very tasty. Could have eaten another one. Will have to call back again to try out more of their great menu.

Despite minor delays with service for our dessert, I still think top marks are deserved. Having a great restaurant locally is brilliant. Food exceeded our expectations. As mentioned by another customer, the taste and quality is as good as NYC and Vancouver. Haven’t tried the poutine yet but will do so next time. We went early and midweek, it’d be wise to reserve a table at weekends. Can’t wait to return.

Lovely food. They were very busy & any delay in food service was fully explained, but there wasn’t really any great delay. Staff were lovely & atmosphere was great. Will definitely re-visit & would highly recommend.

First time being, and loved it........would love them to do their own bagels again. I have been in London, all round New York, Nickel City's homemade bagels were the best I have ever had

Just been for 1st time with family. Food was delicious. Service was great, will definately go again. In the words of my 5 year old: mum you should pay them extra and my 12 year old: wow these guys really know what they're doing! Out of the mouth of babes. We had 2 hash dishes, pepperoni pizza, mac and cheese and chicken & bacon routine. Only sad thing was both lagers on draught were off. But they had medelo as back up. Service was great too. Thank you guys!

Best sausage sandwich I’ve had in a long time. Served with a lovely bit of salad with balsamic. Lovely waitress. Will definitely be back.

We love Nickel City. Have visited a few times and every time has been great. Food is fantastic (try the Philly cheese steak sandwich, you will not regret it), service is friendly and quick, and the drinks selection is good. We are very lucky to have somewhere like this in Wallasey!

This is the first time we have visited and I am gutted that I have never been here before. My wife found out about this place through word of mouth. We called and we're grateful the restaurant could fit us in as it looked very busy. The staff at the Nickel City were very helpful. They went through all the menu options and also the specials that were available that day. You also have a great selection of wines, beers, soft drinks and coffees available too. I had the 14 inch American hot pizza. This was a huge pizza. Two people could easily share it. The restaurant were happy to box up what I couldn't eat so I could take it home with me. I must say I couldn't eat it quick enough. This is by far the nicest pizza I have ever eaten. The dough was perfect. Not too thick. Pepperoni was among the nicest I've ever tasted. The sauce on the pizza was out of this world. My wife opted for the Philly cheese steak and she told me similar to my own feelings whilst eating our meal. The portion size for this was perfect for one person. The bread, the steak and cheese sauce were on par with the same sandwich you'd get in the USA. My daughter had meatballs in marinara sauce. We were sceptical if she would eat them. She said again that the meatballs were so good. My wife also tried some of them and was very much in agreement. She was very jealous as Nickel City's marinara was better than what she makes. My daughter also had a meat selection pizza slice too. Again the portion size was great for her. She really enjoyed the pizza too. This is a very good restaurant. It was also really well ran and clean too which is a massive bonus for anyone when going to new places. We cannot wait to go back again soon. Very highly recommended

The best American restaurant! Came for Taco Night, ordered most of the menu and took the leftovers home for next day breakfast! Great environment and staff! Lovely place to eat or take away!

Visited for the first time yesterday, as heard they do take away lunch items! Focaccia sandwiches all looked really good, and the ones we had were fantastic. It’s rare to find NY deli style sandwiches in these parts, so it’s lovely to now know that this is on our doorstep! Friendly service, cosy atmosphere in the bar. Will have to return of an evening sometime! We will certainly need to try the pizzas.

Went with friends and had the braised steak foccacia - oh my word, it was incredible and the little pot of gravy that came with it was just divine. Lovely helpful friendly staff and incredible food. Will be visiting again!

This review is for the takeaway service. I ordered a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich for lunch. Delivery was quick, the food was piping hot when it arrived, and it was amazing. The ribeye steak was juicy, fell apart in the mouth so pleasantly. The seasoning was perfect. The sautéed peppers and onions were delicious. The homemade sourdough foccocia bread was out of this world. 10/10

My sons and I have, since it closed some time ago, tried to find an American sandwich shop as good as 'Nolita Cantina', which once graced Bold Street, in Liverpool. After our visit today, I can safely say that this place equals, if not surpasses it! I chose the chicken club sandwich which came on freshly baked focaccia bread, with a more than generous amount of chicken, and perfectly cooked crispy bacon. My son went for the braised steak special, with jalapeno peppers. He shared some, and I can report that the beef was perfectly cooked and flavoursome. We will definitely be called back, and are happy to recommend this excellent eatery to the people of Wirral, and beyond!

Bakers shop vibes and selled god knows how many types of bread they have service was nice and offered me one of his mints I took one and said thank you and smelled the relaxing atmosphere

Loved the the Casablanca hash which was just an explosion of flavours, loved it! Filling too. He had the steak poutine , steak melted in the mouth and the cheesiness too! Followed by martini espresso"s .. listening to great tunes! 🍸🎶 Nickel City Kitchen Sundays just do it!

I am not the type to sit and write reviews but I can’t not when the food is this good!! I had the Philly cheese steak sandwich and my partner had the braised steak poutine with a side of tater tots to share and everything was incredible, could not believe how much flavour everything had, I’d recommend nickel city kitchen to anyone!!

Have reviewed it before (and we always love it here) but newly upgraded menu. Tried poutine today. Amazing. Gravy so savoury and gorgeous, cheese on the bottom. Paid extra for the steak. Would do so again. Partner had The Bronx (because I shared mine last time and he had sandwich envy) and he talked about how good it was hours later. I continue to go there for the pizza and keep getting sidetracked, but am never disappointed.

Went to Nickel City Saturday for the first time.. Absolutely gorgeous. Amazing choice of food . Can’t wait to go again and try something else. Staff were really nice and helpful

What a great cosy venue. Music was excellent and I had the best Rueben sandwich ever even though I’ve been to New York a few times. Rest of the groups food was delicious. Great beers and great staff. Definitely give it a try. We’ll be back next time we visit New Brighton

A fantastic night at Nickel City, the pizzas are amazing and the homemade pastrami in the Rueben sandwich is phenomenal. Great service, of great food, by great people.

Nickel City is a rare find - spectacular American style bistro with excellent, friendly service and wide choice of meals, small plates and tapas. The Reubens sandwich is the best I’ve ever tasted - including the many sampled in New York - definitely be back!

On a long bank holiday weekend what could be better than a perfect Sunday roast at Nickel City Kitchen. Our delicious Sunday lunch of lamb washed down with a couple of Poretti’s & Black Russian cocktail was excellent. Fabulous service, menu, relaxed atmosphere & scrumptious food! Nickel City has always been one of our go to places to eat & would highly recommend without hesitation.

Ordered on Just Eat and didn't receive my food. Phoned restaurant and finally got through to be answered with 'The drivers are nothing to do with us sorry' When pressed I was offered a refund if I go to the restaurant myself. Not really acceptable and as a professional buisness myself the right answer would've been 'Sorry you haven't received your food and we'll get it delivered to you asap' The food is actually really good as I've sat in the restaurant but unfortunately now I won't be revisiting or ordering online ever again. Big disappointment! ****Edit**** Update so I received part refund. Thing is i'd ordered 5 times previously from Nickel City Kitchen and had a voucher as part payment for the order I didn't receive. I've now lost this voucher so the customer loyalty reward I was entitled to for being a good customer is now gone. Extremely poor customer service and very poor responsibility to your customers simply blaming your delivery drivers! Nothing else to say really!

Honestly my favourite place to come and eat always have something different on the menu or one of the specials never disappointed. Always helps when the girls who work there are always having fun too making it a happy place to be! Makes it even better with the new cocktails

Ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich and a Ribeye steak sandwich, both of which are described as thin-sliced Ribeye steak. But instead, what appeared was two pieces of Ribeye steak slapped between two pieces of bread! The picture on the website, of the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, looks delicious....pity what was presented at the table looked nothing like that picture. The steak was approx 1.5 inches thick and certainly wasn't thinly sliced.....but sadly, the steak was also tough. Was really looking forward to an authentic NY sandwich, but instead we got two, thick, flavourless pieces of meat in bread. Both completely flavourless and BLAND!!!!!!!!

I have been to Nickel City a lot over the last few months, whether it be to have cocktails and focaccia and hummus with friends or the Sunday Roast and I am not disappointed. My hubby & I have had the roast dinner in the restaurant and have also ordered the takeaway version and have not been disappointed. We have tried the chicken, beef and lamb and they are all delicious. Can’t recommend this place highly enough. Not only is the food amazing but the place itself is amazing. The staff are brilliant. They are warm, kind and friendly and efficient. Drink prices are reasonable. Love this place

Popped in for some lunch and was not disappointed. Philly Cheesesteak was delicious and can't wait to come back and try more from the menu. Great coffee too!

The lady that served us was great, professional but also had fun. The food was on another level, we were looking forward to this for over a week after stumbling upon this place on social media, it did not disappoint. If you are ever in New Brighton you should go. Don't be put off as the outside is not the most inviting.

First time here. All 8 of us very pleased with the food , value and service. Pizzas were rated as excellent and the stew very tasty. All the side plates were enjoyed. All in all a great dining experience which we will certainly repeat.

Went for the first time for lunch today, it will not be my last! What a lovely place with delicious food and lovely friendly staff. I had rib eye porcini focaccia and it was amazing, soft juicy steak & focaccia was like a fluffy cloud, by far the best I’ve ever had.

My mum and I go here quite regularly both on our own and together. The pizzas are insane, the french toast is amazing as are the bagels/focaccia. The atmosphere is always lovely and the music is great.

What a great place. The staff are pleasant and really nice and the setting itself is lovely. The food was absolutely delicious and I honestly haven't had a nicer steak sandwich anywhere. I will definitely be a repeat customer and I found this place by accident. so if you want a good belly full of food then this is the place to come.

Had my mums birthday meal here the other night, amazing food, wine and amazing service too, 1st time I have been here, I was recommended by my sister and I must say it did not disappoint, just needed another choice vegan wine and I would have been in my element lol, staff and owner could not do enough, will definitely be going back, thank.you.

Waited at the door to be acknowledged far too long ... Finally seated - but menu not given nor drinks order taken. Again, waited for menu & drinks far too long. Ladies soft drinks brought in half pint beer glasses, no ice or lemon. We'd been in restaurant an hour before food served. We had only ordered 4 Tapas. Finally when food arrived, it was delicious. We enjoyed two types of prawns, goats cheese, olives & patatas bravas. Excellent dishes each one. It was a shame the service was lacking. They seemed understaffed, even so, lacked finesse and promptness.

This place is consistently very good indeed - the Philly cheese steak sandwich I just had was amazing, but no surprises there. It’s not the cheapest but it’s high quality and worth every penny.

Stopped for an impromptu lunch and coffee after a dog walk. The food was superb, I had an amazing rib eye steak sandwich and my husband had a potato and bacon stew which he enjoyed. The coffee was great and the staff were very friendly. They came and asked if we wanted a water bowl for our dog when they took our order and brought it over with a bowl of dog treats which was very thoughtful. All in all, a lovely experience. The menu looked great, we will definitely be back. Lovely to see another new independent restaurant in New Brighton.

We had an evening meal here, we shared a huge pizza and lovely bottle of wine. They are very dog friendly and super accommodating. The pizza is excellent! Not like any other pizza we have had before the ingredients and flavours really stood out, especially the garlic. Everything was delicious and we will definitely be back.

A lovely little gem on Seabank Road! Local restaurant with tasty food (we had pizzas and some tapas dishes), a cosy atmosphere, very friendly and welcoming staff. The front of house Alicia, does an amazing job! If I choose to eat out 100% would spend money at this place! Recommend wholeheartedly!
