I’m not a massive Sunday lunch fan - either at home or out, but friends said we must try The Golden Lion in Padstow. They were right. It was outstanding. Three of us had the “small” plates - one beef, one turkey and one pork, one had the “large” turkey. All meats were spot on. Veg were fresh and hot (mashed swede, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower cheese), crisp roasted potatoes and YP. Loads of gravy. Very reasonable price and very friendly staff. 100% would do it again.

This is a beautiful pub we had an excellent Sunday lunch. It was perfects probably the best ever. The quality of the food and presentation was exceptional. There is an excellent team to look after you smart polite and professional. Our visit was just perfect thank you.

The Golden Lion in Padstow was not our first choice for dinner, as we’d booked Rick Stein’s but they were out of lobster, so we went to The Golden Lion on recommendation and how happy we were to do so! The welcome in the bar was warm and the food was outstanding! We ordered the Salmon with horseradish clotted cream and picked red cabbage and Prawns starters along with the proper chips and stem broccoli with goats cheese and almonds sides, followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding with clotted cream and it was truly epic! Highly recommend this place 🤩

We all really enjoyed our evening here. Everything we ordered was delicious and home cooked. The staff were all really friendly and stuck a perfect timing balance between courses. Definitely worth booking so you don’t miss out.

Ein netter Pub mit tollem Essen. Die Bedienung super freundlich. Urige Einrichtung. Das war klasse und in Portionen, die keinen Starter benötigen, wenn man zu den Normalessern gehört. Als Starter Burata mit Tomaten und Oliven mit Foccaia. Wir hatten dann den Burger und Fish and Chips. Super lecker, wir wären fast geplatzt. Klare Empfehlung.

Great restaurant! We arrived earlier than our reservation and they were able to take us in, which was a nice surprise. We have some severe food allergies and dietary restrictions and they were able to accommodate those with no problem. Food was delicious! Several vegan options available, and servers were helpful and even checked with the kitchen.

Very disappointing visit. The food was lovely but the service was awful! Not what we expected at all and definitely wouldn't rush back

Wow wow wow the food is outstanding , I had the artichoke and truffle oil soup which was absolutely amazing followed by the beef brisket which was equally delicious . If you are visiting passion this pub is most definitely a must

We stayed at The Golden Lion for two nights rooms were spotless and so comfortable. Breakfast was lovely definitely a five star service. So close to the harbour at Padstow. Highly recommended

We visited the Golden Lion on the evening of Easter Monday whilst wandering around the harbour side. The fish pie was the best that I’ve ever eaten!

We generally come to Padstow on holiday at least twice a year and we always book well in advance for Sunday lunch here. The Sunday roast dinner is amazing and the portions are huge. It’s also dog friendly. Good atmosphere and friendly staff, thoroughly recommended.

If you want a decent, great value but still great quality roast on a Sunday, this is the place to come. It’s no frills, honest, incredibly tasty food with very generous portions and quick service. This is all despite being in a very busy, touristy spot. And it’s nice that everything is included, without charging for extras like Cauli Cheese. Well done Golden Lion, don’t change.

Lovely old fashioned 'locals' pub - don't expect any fancy modern décor - but there was a roaring fire, low ceilings with lots of beams, plenty of history and a good old fashioned Cornish welcome on a very cold, windy day. Staff were so welcoming & attentive. We had the most wonderful dinner. huge portions, the brisket melted in the mouth, the French Onion soup was the best we've ever had - a meal in itself. We also ate at Rick Stein's fish restaurant while we were in Padstow which was delicious - but would prefer to eat at the Golden Lion anytime. We took our dog who wasn't just tolerated, but welcomed & made to feel like a guest. Thank you for a lovely evening & a fabulous meal. To misquote the words of the Terminator 'we'll be back' Thank you.

Have tried getting in a few times and finally did and boy we were not disappointed! The staff and food were excellent, Paul Ainsworth's recommendation in The Times was not wrong. Everything you want from a good homemade roast dinner piping hot, quality meat, veggies fresh and lashings of gravy! Don't talk about the treacle tart - definitely save room for it!!

Oh my god what can we say, the food was amazing and the dog enjoyed his little bits. The food was cooked perfectly and so much flavour, we had the briskett with vegetables, the brisket broke perfectly. Staff were lovely and friendly. Nice place to go when away from home.

Visited the golden lion for lunch with my wife. We were met by friendly bar staff in a clean warm pub with a nice roaring fire. We looked at the menu, plenty of choice. My wife is dairy intolerant and i have a nut allergy. We spoke to the chef about this and he offered a solution to the meal my wife wanted. Instead of mash crushed potatoes with the crispy pork belly. The best she's ever tasted. I had sumac roast chicken Moroccan style potatoes with pomegranate and fig gravy. (Pictured below) OMG stunning. The flavours were so nice and work well together. If your in padstow please try it. Especially with the great selection of beers. Great chef and gorgeous food.

We have been to this pub many times but never ate there before. It’s always busy so we made sure we visited this year and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing, service good and atmosphere was friendly. Lots of locals who made you feel very welcome. I can thoroughly recommend the fish pie it was delicious. Prices are very reasonable for Padstow. Can’t wait to visit again next year

Had a great lunch at the Golden Lion yesterday. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the young lady who was serving and asked where we would like to sit. It was a cold day and the woodburner was on giving the place a lovely cosy atmosphere. We had chosen this pub as the menu outside had more variety than other places. We had the belly pork and fish pie, both delicious and there was plenty of it and all well cooked. Other half had the choc brownie to finish which I had to try as it was 'high up on the brownie scale'. I'm not usually one for choc brownie but this one was really scrummy and homemade with a lovely surprise in the choc decoration. It's not often I write a review but we had such a lovely, relaxing lunch and great service. It's was the best food out we have had for a very long time. Sorry, no photos was too busy eating!

Decadent on every level. Stupendous food, exemplary service, all collated with a terrific atmosphere. No better place to spend a Sunday afternoon in Padstow.

Best pub meal we had in Padstow, recommended. Fish & chips, Beef Brisket, both were excellent with healthy portion size. Can't fault the quality of the food, service or price. Go here first... :)

We live in Cornwall and have tried many different places for roast dinner, however the roast at the Golden Lion is definitely the best. The staff are extremely friendly, welcoming and give excellent service. We had the 3 meat roast dinner which was amazing, they are so generous with the amount of meat you get, as well as the amazing roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, veg and lovely gravy. The puddings are equally delicious. We actually think they should be charging so much more than they do, as they are charging a fraction of what other places are charging, and offer a far superior roast dinner. It is a lovely place to spend time in with a great atmosphere. We will be coming back as often as we can. Thank you.

We visited here in November and popped I during the day to book a table for dinner a few hours later. The service was excellent as was the food! We picked a selection of dishes from the menu and shared them all - every mouthful was incredible! Good size portions, very tasty - actually one of the best pub meals we have had for a while. A must when visiting Padstow!

We have been going to tbe golden lion for quite a few year for food and its all way been top class , and the staff r so friendly and nothing is to must trouble for them,but this was the first Sunday dinner that we have mange to book and get in.Must say it,s tbe best Sunday dinner that I have had out it,s like we have cook it r self's,the beef red witch is hard to find in a lot place the pork top class, a very top class plate full that's with out the veg witch was amazing 6 different veg

We always go here on our visits to Padstow, so was the first stop on our recent trip. Lovely old building , we had lunch , it was quite busy . Table service still in operation and great see some familiar faces. This pub is also dog friendly. My Mac n cheese hit the spot and the Davidstow Cheese bap was huge . We were lucky to get served as there is a 2pm food cut off. Next time we are in Padstow hope to try for an evening .

Had the Old Oss burger, wow! So close to the whopper and so nice to have a proper bun rather than that brioche sh**e. Staff service excellent and although out of season, still friendly and attentive. Cheers guys! Ed

I booked this place 10 weeks ago,its our anniversary and we were going to padstow for the weekend coming.I was called on Saturday to ask to rearrange (!) the booking ,as they had a 'large party' but I explained that i was travelling for the weekend from bristol and it was a special occasion,so it was agreed that we would come in earlier.i got the impression that our small party of 2 was insignificant to the larger party that had been booked, but I went with the earlier booking.I ve been called this evening,now 3 days before said weekend and told that the kitchen would be closed!! And I m guessing it's due to the larger party!! Can somebody please explain to me how I spoke to someone on Saturday who rearranged everything only to be told be someone else 3 days later that this is the case????What an appalling way to treat people,it shouldn't matter whether its a party of 2 or 200 , our booking was as important. I was however reassured that I would be able to find somewhere else at this time of year ,3 days before I need it as cornwall is 'quiet' at the moment. What an actual joke!!I am gobsmacked that a business can run on letting people down if they can get a larger party in .So if its your anniversary and you want to eat out in padstow, don't bother going here.find somewhere that values your custom

Ate here twice during our week and was the best food we had all week. Sunday lunch was not only generous but cooked to perfection with a great selection of vegetables.Came back mid week and my wife has a lovely fish pie and an excellent gammon having had a superb bowl of muscles for starter. Really pleasant ambiance that is dog friendly, really can`t sing praises enough of the Golden Lion with really friendly staff. Also popped in at the start of the week for a ploughmans which again was excellent and was the reason we booked our Sunday roast.

Thought it would be standard pub grub but the food was delicious ,really friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

This was our first visit to The Golden Lion. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated at a lovely table . The menu had a good choice and was reasonably priced. I had a burger, which was accompanied with chips. Delicious! I would highly recommend!

The staff were friendly, the menu was great, the prices were fair, and the food lived up to our expectations… in-fact, it surpassed our expectations. Next time we’re in the area, we’ll definitely be paying another visit.

I had pre booked this pub for an evening meal prior to arriving in Padstow. Seemed to be one of the few places you could do this. Our food was lovely. Good menu choice. Service was lovely too and good price. Fish and chips was massive! I’d recommend.

Popped in on a rainy day without a booking and were lucky to get a table. Staff friendly and welcoming and food and drinks were lovely!

Recently returned from a three night weekend with friends at The Golden Lion. The food, accommodation, hosts (including Dimmock the spaniel) and staff were all great and we certainly hope to return.

Four of us went and we all had different burgers. Food was delicious. I had the brisket burger and it was really good quality. Staff were friendly and there is a lovely resident dog. It’s a lovely beamed building. Would definitely recommend. Good value as well. Thanks for a lovely meal.

If you can find a better Sunday Roast in Padstow I’ll be amazed. Quality beef, huge range of vegetables and roasties. Smart quirky pub with super friendly staff. Great beer and a gorgeous sticky toffee pudding. Tremendous value, wish it was my local.

To me The Golden Lion has everything a good English Pub should have. Great local Real Ales,Excellent Harty Food. Staff that are welcoming efficient and friendly. A cosy relaxed atmosphere. I believe The Golden Lion consistently serves the best Sunday roast in Padstow and Cornwall. This time I had the large Turkey . It came with numerous roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, spring greens peas and leeks,cauliflower cheese and a gravy boat. All was delicious and well cooked. My wife had the small Turkey which didn't seem so small. Even though we were full we squeezed in one of the delicious puddings.The result a siesta in the afternoon. I wish we had this pub in my local village.

Welcoming friendly staff who had a great laugh with us. Excellent Guiness! Fabulous menu which had something for everyone. Chilli prawns were superb. Catch of the day was cooked perfectly. Would use this place regularly if local. Good value for money

We had booked a table here, so as to meet an old school friend, whom we hadn’t seen for 52 years. We explained all this to the staff, when we booked the table.The staff could not have been more accommodating to us. We had a cosy corner table in the pub and after our time there was up, the staff had found us a cosy courtyard table to continue our conversation. The food was really nice and the beer good, too. It was your average ‘pub grub’, but we had absolutely nothing to complain about. Service and staff attitude was excellent. We would certainly recommend this pub and would definitely return ourselves.

Traditional pub. Tasty and generous portions of fish and chips. Staff very friendly. We waited quite a long time for it to arrive (40 minutes) but both agreed that the meal was well worth it.

Lovely pub food which we really enjoyed. My husband had a burger and I had the gammon. The service was great and a good location just off the harbour.

Tried to eat here but it was fully booked. We were allowed to enter to have drink for 45 minutes,until service started and found the place to be a very nice environment. Maybe next time.

Best Sunday dinner we have ever had and returned the following Wednesday to choose off the menu. The menu isn’t really big but you will not be disappointed in your food. The best home made fish pie I have ever had and the rump steak was the best we have had anywhere. Book up in advance as it’s always full. Very highly recommend. Staff are very pleasant too. 5 stars

Had a lovely meal in the golden lion and great atmosphere until the residential dog walked into the eating area of the restaurant and ‘cocked his leg’ up the chest cabinet and pee’d. How bloody lovely was that to see. Sorry dog lovers but pets do not belong in restaurants /pubs / eating areas. Keep them at home! We are not all pet lovers when out eating meals. And when the owner was told the attitude was ‘oh well!!!!’

We prebooked all our restaurant trips many months before our August holidays given the current COVID situation and the mass exodus of visitors predicted to hit Cornwall, we didn't want to leave anything to chance.The Golden Lion is always a favourite especially their Sunday lunches which simply cannot be beaten for quality or value. We booked for both Sundays over our 10 nights in Padstow and we even sneaked in an unplanned mid week lunch time visit due to poor weather (we decided to cancel a trip to Rock) and they still manged to find room for us.All in all we dined at The Golden Lion 4 times in 2 weeks and the food and service throughout couldn't be bettered, it certainly holds its own against the more expensive eateries and Michelin starred restaurants.We look forward to visiting again early 2022 and we will purposely plan our trip to ensure we land just in time for their Sunday lunch!!

Nikki was lovely, very accommodating to my peanut allergy and mine and my partner’s vegan lifestyle. She checked up on us during the meal and provided us with face masks upon entry. She also noted that the Berry rattler wasn’t on draught which made my sister change her mind to Classic rattler, just little touches that made the visit even better. Food was gorgeous I’ve enjoyed 6 vegan burgers on this holiday and the one here the ‘Maypole’ was the best by far. We will definitely be returning here, lovely place and fab staff! Get yourself down!!

Wait at door to be ushered through to an empty pub because clearly customers are voting with their feet. Might as well just remain closed until further notice.

Luckily we bagged a last minute table for 2 on a busy Tuesday afternoonWe ordered our food to then be told the mussels were off the menu due to a late delivery. We chose a replacement and asked to cancel the chips to which the waitress was a bit disgruntled mentioning they may have already been plated up… however they cancel these and we went for suitable replacements which were superb and really much more than just your usual ‘pub grub’ this was more bistro type stuff but without the hefty price tag We would 100% recommend this place if you manage to get in

We were in a very busy Padstow and needed a retreat. We saw that there was a spot on their patio and enquired; we were very lucky indeed, this was their last non- booked spot of the day and we could see why.The drinks were fabulous (a really lovely Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is on offer). We decided to stay for some late lunch; it was a Sunday and, my word, was just fabulous ( how do you get the cauliflower cheese, carrots and cabbage (!) to taste so good?)Any questions were assisted, COVID19 measures were good (which, being medically vulnerable, I was most grateful for), dog friendly and we left vowing to return.So good, I wasn’t sure I wanted to share it

The staff in this pub are rude, obnoxious and entitled. They clearly have a chip on their shoulder and appear to resent tourists (this is apparent if you read other reviews too) without whom, they'd have a lot less money to survive on. Unfortunately, due to to the tremendous amount of footfall during the holiday season, I imagine they will continue to thrive and that's why they don't care. No doubt the staffing issues are a result of the toxic working environment. Do yourself a favour and find somewhere else to go...

Had a 2 night stay in the Golden Lion . Had a drink when away here for years but stayed in their rooms . Was lovely . Room very well decorated and cosy. Had everything you need. Breakfast was amazing and very large and lots of choice. Evening meal lovely and Sunday lunch amazing. Need to book as lots of people wanting their delicious food !!! The land lord and lady were so welcoming as were all their staff couldn’t do enough enough for you .. being welcomed by their little spaniel Dimmock was so cute . Definitely going to be my choice of stay next time ! Thank you !!

We decided to escape Boardmasters and took bus to Padstow but shocked by the crowds in the town. Every food outlet around the harbour had queues and everyone was trying to find somewhere to get out of the crowd. On a spur of the moment we dipped into the Golden Lion and were lucky to get a table. It was the best thing to have done as from then we were treated to excellent table service by a very efficient team of waitresses. We both had the beer battered fish and chips with mushy peas and tartar sauce. The food was amazing, perfectly cooked and served hot. OH confirmed Doom Bar was hitting the spot and I had a lovely cold glass of Sauvignon Blanc all again good quality and good prices. Lady at the next table had the chefs Fish Pie which she confirmed was the best she had tasted. I would definitely recommend this pub restaurant

We stayed for 3 nights at the Golden Lion and had a wonderful time. Sarah and Martin were friendly and welcoming and let us store our bags early so we could go off and explore before check in. Our rooms were clean , beautifully furnished and well equipped but what struck us most about the Golden Lion was it's amazing food.We had booked a table for the first and last night but the food was so good that we asked if they could squeeze us in on Saturday night as well. All our meals were delicious, very good value for money and arrived piping hot. Breakfasts were equally as good with plenty of choice. Thanks to all the staff team for a wonderful stay.

We popped in on the off chance with no booking but Emily was very kind and helpful and got us a nice table for 4. Even though they were very busy, the service was great and we never felt rushed. The Peace Oss burger with brisket and blue cheese is the best burger I’ve ever had and the rest of the food was lovely

Although the menu is not that big, what we chose was excellent quality. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Worth a visit but i would love to see more options in order to visit again.

We came for an evening meal (booked in advance) and it was just as good as the previous 2 years we have visited. A bowl of Local Mussels for main course were absolutely fantastic as was my husbands GF burger. Kids were also really well catered for. Very clean and the staff are so friendly. Excellent service. We cannot fault this lovely little pub, thank you for a lovely evening.

Used tripadvisor to recommend a great Sunday Roast and the reviews were spot on. Huge portions ( we had a small), good price and the Sticky toffee pudding was lovely ( I have made it my mission to find good ones and this one was good). Good service, great food, good price. Well done to the staff keeping it going with so many of their staff off having received the 'ping'.

Super friendly staff and very good at making you feel safe and comfortable. Food was incredible, a lot of homemade dishes, beautifully presented that tasted amazing.

Stumbled across this little pub whilst walking in sweltering heat and needed a pit stop which didn't seem overcrowded. Managed to get a table quickly. Staff were pleasant and very helpful. Food was delicious. We only had a quick bite to eat so had the tiger bread bap with cheese and pickle and a side order of chips. The chips were some of the best we have tasted and the sandwich was delicious. The kids all had burger and chips and ate the lot and said they enjoyed it. A little on the expensive side but hey it's Padstow! Would definitely visit here again if we are in the town.

We loved our evening here. Aside from the yapping dogs (felt like every patron owned a dog that didn't get on well with other dogs), and a guy in the pub area who was allowed to smoke (very off-putting), this was a triumph!Unable to book any Stein venues, we had a really nice meal here. The boys enjoyed their Oss burgers, and the adults loved their fish and chips.Service was very attentive and the meal represented good value.

What a great find! The food was absolutely amazing, the fish and chips were to die for aswell as the catch of the day which was cod loin with capers and olives - delicious! The service was a bit on the slow side, but the food was excellent and worth the wait! Definitely would recommend and go back when we return to Padstow.

Booked a meal here after reading reviews, we were not disappointed the service from the friendly staff and the excellent food are well worth a visit. Highly recommended.

We have visited the Golden Lion for many years on our holiday's in Padstow and our recent visit did not disappoint. I think they had the best Covid safety measures in place of anywhere we visited on our recent holiday, in particular ensuring they had contact details for everyone in our group rather than simply accepting we had scanned the app. The upside of the Covid measures is that table are more spaced out and there was plenty of room for our group of 4 and our 2 dogs.It is refreshing to find a pub that sticks to its roots and serves very good pub food, too many places have morphed into "gastro pubs" serving over priced food in a pub setting. The FISH PIE is every bit as good as I remember it, I make a pretty decent fish pie myself but its not a patch on this one. Others had fish and chips which they said were the best of the holiday. Staff as always are friendly, efficient and attentive - and it was good to see some familiar faces, clearly they are doing something right to have such excellent staff loyalty.

Friendly staff, nice traditional pub menu, the salad leaves and pickled shallot side was very tasty. Quick service but did not feel rushed.

Would not recommend this place at all emailed and was told I didn’t need to book on arrival was told it was a first come first serve basis outside returned the evening after to be told I needed to book both times staff very rude will NOT return

I’ve got to say I’ve had lots of fish snd chips in my time but non so tasty and delicious as at the golden lion in padstow. Tucked along a narrow road at the end corner, it was very organised and we did book as it’s best to be safe than sorry. Excellent friendly service from the staff, Highly recommended

This is a small restaurant/Hotel hidden away in Padstow. However the standard of food is exceptional and very high standards of service. This is the number one place to eat in Padstow and competes with any of the other high profile restaurants. This is a must go to restaurant, do not miss it when you visit Padstow

Visited here last week and were lucky enough to get a table as we hadn't booked. Had drinks and lunch. Rolls were huge. Proper chips were amazing. Best meal we had in Cornwall. Place is really nice and the staff were lovely. Will definitely be back.

Visited with friends on their first evening in Padstow. Excellent socially distanced tables, great service. Good pub menu with burger speciality. A couple of Strike Up burgers, an Old Oss and a Teaser, all served with real chips and an extra of onion rings which were crispy and hot and not at all greasy. The portions were generous and the burgers in a ciabatta roll which as fresh and soft inside. Very good meal all round

Our second visit within a couple of weeks and the service and food was outstanding on both occasions. Highly recommend a visit, very covid clean and staff very friendly and welcoming. Well done being so am using in such busy times.

Out of 14 Nights we ate at the Golden Lion almost every night. Amazing Fresh food , Highly recommend the Oss Burger , Tried the Vegan food this year too - Delicious and the Roast on a Sunday is the best i have ever had! Staff are fab , Thank you to you all and of course the Chef! We will be back hopefully later in the Year, if not next June and hope to see you all then! Book in advance - Especially for the Roast on a sunday. Superb Food , Lovely staff - My fave in Padstow. Please bring back the Cajun Chicken for next year !Dog Friendly .

We have been having Sunday Lunch at the Golden Lion whenever we holiday in Padstow because it's always good. This time we went with our best friends and had what we all agreed was the best sunday lunch ever. Between us we had all the meats,beef, pork and turkey . All were juicy ,well cooked and so tasty.There were a lovely mixture of vegetables and cauliflower cheese. The roast potatoes were great.The sweets including' Lions Mess ' and 'Sticky Toffee Pudding' were delicious. The local Real Ales went down well. All in all it was a great pub experience and we will certainly be back in September.

We stumbled upon this jewel when walking around Padstow after a day of surfing in Newquay.We aren’t the most organised of couples so we hadn’t thought to book anywhere and it seemed the entire place was fully booked However, the staff at the golden lion told us that although they were booked up solid, we should try (if walking past) and see if they’d had any cancellations. We tried ….and we were successful What a find, wonderful accommodating friendly staff and the food?Best rump steak I have ever had in my 49 years of life, absolute perfection, cooked exactly how I wanted it.We will be back in padstow, next year….we will be sure to RESERVE our table for 4 nights at the Golden Lion

Been for Sunday lunch twice and each time the quality and value have been really good. Staff and kitchen were very accommodating regarding the dietary requirements of one of our group, they could not have been more helpful.

We had a fantastic stay at the hotel. Ideally located in the centre of Padstow, a beautifully decorated room and amazing breakfast. Hosts very friendly. We only wish we could have stayed longer.

We enjoyed a lovely meal in the beer garden. The catch of the day was especially excellent and the service (by Nikki) was friendly and efficient.

Nice pub that serves some very good food in enormous portions. We tried Fish and Chips and Fish Pie both of which were extremely tasty, the have the wonderful Sharps Offshore on draught so what’s not to like

Booked an evening meal here as it was recommended by the B&B we were staying at. So glad we tried it. The staff were so incredibly friendly and efficient ( it was table service and not ordering by app as so many places seem to be at the moment which we much preferred).Super pub food - very tasty and very generous portions. Prices very reasonable too. Can definitely recommend Sarah’s fish pie! Will definitely return next time we are in Padstow.

Enjoyed a pleasant evening meal lastnight at the Golden Lion pub in Padstow. Table for six of us was previously booked which I highly recommend. I had a rump steak perfectly cooked. The Boss ( Wife) had a Fish Pie although she enjoyed it wished there had been a little more fish in it. Son and daughter had Burger and Pasta dishes consumed every little piece!!! Mum and partner had Gammon and Haddock and enjoyed it all. A little pricey however I didn't pay the bill so Happy Days. We will be back again to try out their Sunday Dinners.

After a nice day out in padstow we wanted to sit down for a drink somewhere. So we went into the golden lion, taken about 10 mins for someone to come to us and then an older woman member of staff came to us and was being very rude and abrupt saying “there’s no tables for you here” which we were taken back by so decided to ask a younger and nicer member of staff who kindly seated us. However the old woman who seated us should not have a job here, could easily turn customers away with her attitude. All of the other staff was great though.

I have been coming to Padstow all my life. It is one of my favourite places in the world as I have great memories with my grandparents and other family. 4 of us came into The Golden Lion as two of our group were already in here, the older woman came to the door and I said “table for 6 please” she immediately said no, in a very abrupt way and that they can’t accommodate us even though there was free tables around. I said that two of the 6 were already sat inside, again she turned around extremely rude and raised her voice and said “we can’t accommodate you, even for a table of four!” I was mortified and embarrassed. Luckily the two of our group that were already in here asked a young girl who kindly allowed us to sit down. Young girl & man were lovely, older woman really needs to have a better attitude and can not speak to people so rudely.

Be sure to book in advance. People constantly being turned away at the door. Very pleasant staff here and plenty of food options. We had 4 different meals, starter and main and all spot on.

Worth booking an evening meal here. We had excellent fish and chips and have eaten here regularly over the past few years. clean, friendly, with prompt service and reasonable prices.

On arrival our table was not ready. We were eventually seated at our table half an hour late. Another hour elapsed and our food had still not appeared. We left in disgust without eating. Also staff attitude was appalling, Hostile and intimidating.

Came here a couple of times on our week’s holiday. Staff absolutely wonderful and very friendly. Food was excellent, if a little expensive but I think that’s true of everywhere due to COVID. Would definitely recommend this as a place for food or drink.

Having read the reviews 6 of us booked in for an evening meal for 7.30pm We were told there was a delay and happily we went for a walk . We came back at8 still no table had a drink and got a table ordered food an hour and a quarter later still no food. The staff didn't offer an apology and the manager told us it was being plated up. 15 minutes later still no food. We went to pay bar bill. Manager and bar manager became very aggressive because we were not stopping for the food. If the staff had offered an apology and some bread and oils as as a gesture we would have been more than happy to stay. These things happen.

We enjoyed a lovely meal at the Golden Lion. Booking was efficient online. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was excellent. A super pub to relax away from the hustle and bustle of Padstow on a holiday week!

Ok I wanted to sit in the bar. Staff good, food nice but outside visiting regulars crass, rude and disrespectful. Farting. No apology. Lounging and self important with no regard for others including apart from when present, the owner. Back in the day I would have dragged him outside, but I've mellowed and promised the wife. Owner don't let them take the piss even if they represent £

Nice pub decorated in yellow and usually is full of flowering plants in baskets which make the pub look stunning in summer and autumn. Had a great meal here , the fish pie is to die for , had it last year , again had it this year full of delicious salmon , cod and big prawns in a lovely sauce ,served with minty peas mmmmm , hubby had hake on a bed of cooked lettuce and roasted tomatoes which was beautifully presented and came with boiled potatoes .great selection of local beers from the area, interesting pictures on the walls About town history nice staff too

My family and I booked The Golden Lion ahead of time as we'd heard it was a popular spot in Padstow. It couldn't be better positioned really.The member of staff that greeted us was friendly and took out orders in good time. The food was amazing - chilli prawns and crusty bread for starters which was delicious, followed by the fish pie for main with minted peas. It was by far the best fish pie I've ever had and very had a very generous amount of fish included too with a lovely white sauce and cheesy mash on top. Delicious.My Wife had the fish and chips which came up as a very sizeable portion. The quality and taste were superb. Both children really enjoyed their fish and chips too. High quality fresh fish, beautifully cooked.Well done to the staff and kitchen at The Golden Lion! We certainly hope to return again one day.

We booked for our first evening in Padstow and both opted for the fish pie. Excellent with lots of fish at the bottom and covered in cheesy mash. Very busy so booking is probably essential.

Really great pub food, beautifully home cooked dishes and generous portions. Lovely service too and good COVID precautions. Been to Padstow many times but have missed this gem previously, we won’t next time!

My wife and I first ate here a year ago, found it to be fantastic and decided again to visit whilst here this year.We weren’t disappointed - it was as fantastic as last year.Over the years holidaying in Padstow, we have eaten at all the best restaurants several times and genuinely feel the GL is up there with the best and at half the price.The staff are great, Covid precautions are good without being intrusive and the food ......see belowThe Rongopal white Wine is fantastic and drinks like nectar.The devilled wild mushroom starter with the really tasty green salad was a fantastic advert of what was to come. I had the Fish pie (tend to avoid elsewhere)but the fish pieces, cheese and potato combination just go on and on. I didn’t want it to end and needed a spoon to scrape out what my knife and fork wouldn’t collect. Lovers of this combo of food should not miss this delight.My wife had the Hake which we had had earlier in the week at a top restaurant and to be honest she found it certainly as good if not better. I tried a mouthful and it almost persuaded me I should have had that.We finished with a shared sticky toffee pudding with ice cream (changed from cream) and it was delicious.As you can tell, we ran out of superlative adjectives to describe this meal .In conclusion, staff are great, service great, wine gorgeous, food magnificent.This week we had eaten in a more mediocre place in Padstow, paid the same money and had food that wasn’t a patch on what we had at the GL.We just hope and from talking to the staff, know this place will hold the magic it has got.Finallly we decided when here again in the Spring (Covid allowing) we will only eat at the GL and a couple of other top places and not try elsewhere. What’s the point, everywhere else is a waste of money and precious time P.S. As a sign of their lack of awareness, genuine belief in themselves and honesty, the staff didn’t do what staff normally do when praised, and ask us to post a review. This one is for real and must be tried.

Good tasty pub food. The fish pie and roasted cauliflower were both very good. Friendly staff. Good choice for a low key meal.

The Covid set up was excellent best so far that we have experienced and something very important to us. Staff were very pleasant and all our food was perfectly cooked. We had Sausage and mustard mash. Scampi, fish and macaroni cheese.Portion sizes were all good to.Good selection of beers and wine too.

Excellent choice in Padstow for great pub grub, the fish and chips is amazing as was the Fish Pie, nice pint of offshore Pilsner. They are well organised re COVID restrictions

We enjoyed our Sunday lunch so much that we went back to the pub for another evening later in the week . We had the extra large Sunday lunch which was amazing value and a very generous portion with loads of great vegetables . The staff are a credit to the place and it’s definitely the warmest welcome we received in padstow, this was a relief after let’s say some less than friendly welcomes in other pubs . It’s all very COVID friendly can’t wait to go back when we are next in padstow. Don’t miss this pub if you are in town .
