Booked on Table on Sunday for party of 6 menu was fab choice 2 courses for under £20 we opted for starter and a main and food was great. Manger said it was going under new management this week so we wish them nothing but good luck,Thank you.

Went for Sunday lunch and was not disappointed, all fresh home cooked produce at a reasonable price and they do a smaller plate on request. Reasonable priced drinks, would definitely go again when next in Ripon. Highly recommend 👌 😀😀😀

Went here for tea had the two meals for £12 50 we chose fish chips and peas Great value lovely hot fresh cooked food nice staff and good service will definitely go again Went here last Saturday 10/8/24 not sure what is happening at this pub we went into the beer garden which used to be really nice and busy this visit was disappointing there were dead and dieing plants and trees in tubs and paint peeling of the roof beams and centre planter woodwork the planter was full of bottle tops and weeds There were only six people in where it used to be hard to get a seat on a Saturday afternoon, not a pleasant area to have a drink anymore had one drink and left

Not particularly friendly welcome. Food very mediocre indeed. The "Chippy Tea" on a Friday was recommended by friends but was disappointing .

There has been a step change here since the new management. The food, beer and atmosphere is better than it's been in years.

Visited this bar as live music was advertised & we are so glad we did. Staff & the locals were all friendly & chatty, excellent range of draught beers & the music was fantastic. Really busy & a great atmosphere. Will definitely return when we're back in Ripon.

Very friendly and welcoming, The food was very nice and will be returning to try the burgers. We had the steak and ale pie and the lamb and mint pie both amazing. Starters again very good. Overall a very nice evening.

We went for our friend’s 60th birthday meal. We had a delicious meal with friendly helpful staff. We’ll definitely visit again. Great value for money

Had dinner on a Thursday evening which is pie night. Food was lovely but let down by charging an extra £2.50 for gravy. Surely pies need gravy especially when serving with vegetables.

This is becoming the best real ale pub in Ripon. A good variety of cask ales well kept by an experienced team. Food is good value too, with a pie night and fish Friday deals.

Our 2nd visit today 3 of us had Sunday Lunch it was lovely, beef so tender and a huge yourkshire pudding. Variety of nicely cooked veg. Our 1st visit we had fish &chips, steak & ale pie big portions and so tasty. Great choice of hand pulled beers. Nice outdoor seating area and dogs allowed in. The staff & locals are friendly and welcoming. Would definetly recommend people to go there.

Just went for a drink, staff made me very welcome and then the Owner made me equally so.Cherry Porter on handpump-made my day,fabulous quirky conservatory at the back.Will been returning.

I love this pub. The staff are friendly and the food is amazing. I went for the Sunday roast which included a huge yorkshire pudding. They also have a nice selection of unique beers and ciders. They change the beers often so there is always something new to try. It's a family run business who work in both the front and back of the house. Highly recommended.

Ale was good according to my partner and my tea came in a big brown pot. Was a disappointed when the only food we could get was fish and chips or variations of when all we wanted was a normal sandwich.

What an improvement with the new owners, friendly, welcoming with a great selection of beers. Went on a Thursday and found that it was pie night. Absolutely excellent. Will definitely be back!

Lovely food and well kept cask real ales. Good service and a nice atmosphere though beers are not always to my taste and the range of keg beers is limited to one.

Arrived at 12.40 for a 1.00 booking for a meal. We were directed to our table by a barman/Landlord(?) who was obviously having a bad day. Ordered a round of drinks, which also seemed to be a nuisance. Waited for our food order to be taken. Told we would be next to order 'when we're ready'. Waited a few minutes more and watched the bar staff/(landlady ?) take a food order from another table of people who had just walked in!! Paid our bar bill and left, to find somewhere to eat without the attitude. Wouldn't recommend service but can't comment on the food as we didn't get any!!

I went into the Golden Lion pub on my own this evening, the owner and lady serving were very friendly and welcoming to me, the beer was excellent andni definitely will try the food., recommended

The Golden Lion is by far my favourite pub in Ripon and it’s probably the best place to eat in Ripon, including all of the restaurants. Our group tried the burgers, the steak and ale pie, the fish and chips and the salmon and they were all excellent. Great food accompanied by wonderful service from Dan and Tracey. Excellent Sunday dinner, now has a good menu

Visited recently (Feb 2024) with my wife and 2 young kids when there was new management. We were made to feel welcome and the pub has a nice vibe to it. They had a good selection of beers and the food was excellent - I had the burger and my wife had the pie. Real home cooked pub food. Would definitely recommend.

Back open and GREAT ! BIG choice of real ales and lovely to see in samples the colour of the ale . A very warm welcome and really really good pub food ! OMG ! The Sunday lunch roast with Yorkshire pudding is massive. We settled for double cheese burger and fries which comes with 2 large battered onion rings, salad and slaw . Highly recommend

New owners since December, who are very friendly. We booked a table for 6 at 1. They welcome dogs which is always a bonus. We were in no hurry but food and drinks arrived promptly. We chose to have the £16.00 for two courses menu and most of us ordered the leek and haddock croquettes - 2 croquettes served with a little salad. For the mains we chose fish,chips and peas, mushroom stroganoff with rice and veg, ham and leek pie and chicken supreme. Everyone said how much they enjoyed the food. Would definitely recommend a visit.

We had several items from the lunchtime menu, the food was excellent. Wine and beer good. Very reasonable bill.

The golden lion changed hands in December and the new folk, with Yorkshire roots, are doing a grand job. We had a £16 two course lunch, with haddock and leek croquettes followed by chicken and leek pie. I think it’s mostly homemade, and all credit to them for serving simple well cooked food.

Great pub great food what more can I say , Dan and Tracy are excellent hosts we will be back again. Its nice to go into a pub nowadays and not have football etc blasting out from giant screens.very homely and friendly pub.

An outstanding pub with wonderful hosts and friendly clients. Myself and my partner were recommended to visit here whilst in Ripon and we're so glad we did. The pub itself is immaculate and stylish whilst keeping traditional. We were there for drinks only but the Sunday roast menu looked excellent, shame we had to head home on the Sunday. There were some really friendly people in and we had a great night. Thank you to the wonderful landlord and lady for making us very welcome and even making sure we got back to our hotel safely! This pub is a little gem. Spotlessly clean and very well maintained, with a beautiful hidden garden at the back. Beer is kept very well. You could eat your food off the toilet floor it is so clean. Would definitely recommend. Food is home cooked.

We booked for Sunday lunch. The tables hadn’t been planned out so patrons already eating were asked to move. We were sat for about 20 minutes before someone came to take the order. We had been in the place an hour before we got our food. It was lukewarm with incipit looking veg. We’d heard good things but it didn’t live up to it.

An absolutely first-class friendly pub, very clean and with a great atmosphere. I didn't have a meal, so I can't comment on the food, but the beer was in great fettle and the barman was a real character. Special mention for the super clean toilets. Genuinely highly recommended.

The whole place stinks of bleach! And not for the first time! Also, it is very sweaty and humid with no ventilation. Other than that the beer is nice and it's a decent pub.

I have recently came to Ripon to work I am 24 I came into this pub dressed smart and got served by a lovely woman on the bar I went for a cigarette in the beer garden to get chased by a man about 5 minuets later saying I was under age I explained I’m not she didn’t ask for my I’d but I do have it in my wallet he said he dosnt care and he would get some of the locals to throw me out while I was always being polite I left as I thaught I didn’t want to be made a fool of and attacked by the staff and customers there the man had dark hair medium build and a massive attitude problem I would stay far away and I am going to keep sure everybody knows how I got treated at this site it was appalling

Nipped in here after a Saturday evening curry at Moti Raj. Great choice of drinks & friendly staff, an added bonus was the live singer & guitarist followed by a top bit of karaoke to end the night. Will definitely be back again soon.

ONLY LEAVING 1 STAR AS I CANNOT COMMENT OTHERWISE 1st time we have called into this pub yesterday and was very nastily turned away by a man as he certainly was no gentleman" I've told you lot there's no room" well like I said to you you didn't tell me other wise we would not have tried to get into your nearly empty beer garden who ever the man was n a green shirt made my 16 year old daughter cry with the wet you spike to us and upset quiet a few people. we will not be calling into your establishment again we will stick to more welcoming ones who enjoy families.

Well if I could select a Half star this pub and the man/manager on Sunday night who was very rude to our group as we made our way to the beer garden and since said we were drunk after only laying eyes on us for a split second. Shame on you sir for your words and making a 16 year old girl upset and the lack of customer skills you don't have and will never have.
