Just went for a drink, staff made me very welcome and then the Owner made me equally so.Cherry Porter on handpump-made my day,fabulous quirky conservatory at the back.Will been returning.

Ale was good according to my partner and my tea came in a big brown pot. Was a disappointed when the only food we could get was fish and chips or variations of when all we wanted was a normal sandwich.

Stopped for a family meal. Staff very friendly, great food and good value.

Lovely food and well kept cask real ales. Good service and a nice atmosphere though beers are not always to my taste and the range of keg beers is limited to one.

Arrived at 12.40 for a 1.00 booking for a meal. We were directed to our table by a barman/Landlord(?) who was obviously having a bad day. Ordered a round of drinks, which also seemed to be a nuisance. Waited for our food order to be taken. Told we would be next to order 'when we're ready'. Waited a few minutes more and watched the bar staff/(landlady ?) take a food order from another table of people who had just walked in!! Paid our bar bill and left, to find somewhere to eat without the attitude. Wouldn't recommend service but can't comment on the food as we didn't get any!!

Excellent Sunday dinner, now has a good menu

Visited recently (Feb 2024) with my wife and 2 young kids when there was new management. We were made to feel welcome and the pub has a nice vibe to it. They had a good selection of beers and the food was excellent - I had the burger and my wife had the pie. Real home cooked pub food. Would definitely recommend.

An absolutely first-class friendly pub, very clean and with a great atmosphere. I didn't have a meal, so I can't comment on the food, but the beer was in great fettle and the barman was a real character. Special mention for the super clean toilets. Genuinely highly recommended.

Nipped in here after a Saturday evening curry at Moti Raj. Great choice of drinks & friendly staff, an added bonus was the live singer & guitarist followed by a top bit of karaoke to end the night. Will definitely be back again soon.

Revamped and looked great..quirky back /garden room at the rear the pub,makes a great addition.

Plenty of parking outside on allhallowgate, just make sure you check the signs and display your parking disc. Don't drink and drive.

ONLY LEAVING 1 STAR AS I CANNOT COMMENT OTHERWISE 1st time we have called into this pub yesterday and was very nastily turned away by a man as he certainly was no gentleman" I've told you lot there's no room" well like I said to you you didn't tell me other wise we would not have tried to get into your nearly empty beer garden who ever the man was n a green shirt made my 16 year old daughter cry with the wet you spike to us and upset quiet a few people. we will not be calling into your establishment again we will stick to more welcoming ones who enjoy families.

Well if I could select a Half star this pub and the man/manager on Sunday night who was very rude to our group as we made our way to the beer garden and since said we were drunk after only laying eyes on us for a split second. Shame on you sir for your words and making a 16 year old girl upset and the lack of customer skills you don't have and will never have. Good luck fella with the your precious pub and when the word gets round what your like......Keep the great service going you'll go far in this world...Not !!!!!!

The landlord is downright rude.. Describing 3families with kids as a crowd and refusing entry when there was over 50 spare seats in the pub and beer garden is daft. His attitude was ridiculous, and the fact that I will make sure everyone at Riverside meadows caravan park aware of this will cost a fortune. Well done jobsworth

Lovely clean, newly decorated pub with a real fire. Landlord was chatty and interested in our opinions but not intrusive. My husband was very pleased with his pint of cask ale!

The foods always been good, the Barman, Stu is always good for conversation with brilliant service to! Atmosphere is always friendly & it has a big room at the back for private parties.

Visited on Saturday evening as, according to the website, there would be food and football on TV. There was neither with no apology or explanation!

We had Sunday lunch the pork was fatty the stuffing ball burnt the mash cold and the Yorkshire pudding was disgusting tasteless and over done the veg offering no better this is our second visit since change of management we won’t be coming back again...

Called in for dinner on a Thursday night and it was very busy but we were found a table. There is a good menu comprising of fish, pasta and meat, amongst many other items, so we ordered a pasta and a pie dish. A bottle od Chilean Merlot arrived too and was considered a bit sharp without food.When the food arrived the portions were huge and we struggled to finish them which was a shame as they were very tasty. The pie's gravy was very salty however but was diluted via a carafe ot tap water.We did enjoy our grub but why the massive portions? We are 65+ so perhaps our food capacity has reduced but what a waste.The atmosphere was good and busy and the staff, largely, were attentive and pleasant so we would suggest you pay a visit but with a very good appetite!

Three of us had Sunday lunch on Mother's Day. The pub was busy but the service was great and the food arrived promptly. There was a good choice and you could mix your choice of meats. Really enjoyed the food and the deserts. Great service and friendly bar and waiting staff. For a pub Sunday lunch you really can't go wrong with the value for money. Will return.

Only called in the Golden Lion once for a evening drink, decent atmosphere sports bar type football was on tv food available.

We have going to The Golden Lion for a few years and always enjoyed a warm welcome and great food.... What's happened? Called in for a drink and maybe some lunch. The place looked a bit grim, no atmosphere. Only one couple eating and the food looked unappetising. We had a quick drink and left. This was a regular for us during the summer season. Since learned that the landlord/lady left in Feb/March . Speaks volumes. Won't be back in a hurry.

Love this place for eating and drinking. Great atmosphere and the music works well especially with the variety of ages that come in. Seems to cater for everyone. Recommended.

Bill Askew Clean pub, nice atmosphere, very freindly staff had a good laugh, and they have old peculiar on, brilliant. Just visiting the area for first time but after 6 pubs this is the best, and we have returned, will definitly call again next time we are here. Under new management only been here a couple of months.

Way to expensive for a soft drink

Been for Sunday lunch today quite disappointed with portion sizes Yorkshire puddings where tiny but at least you get 2. 😡 won’t be rushing back

A traditional public house serving traditional food, the ambience was underwhelming! The beer was OK. The food was OK. If anything, the portions were mean, given pie and mash was £9.69! It was very evidently microwaved. The place was OK. The décor is tired and slightly tatty. The Toilets were OK. Tight for space, there is little room in them to get in and out and do what you do. If you appreciate wall to wall piped TV sport with multi-screens on different channels, and appreciate the confusion of piped commentary with different pictures then this is the place for you. But hardly relaxing. MEDIA OVERLOAD. All in all, very average. Not somewhere that I propose to return to any day soon.

Staff were incredibly welcoming, decent music, and some pretty damn good food! The prices were great also, not high especially for the standard of food coming out! Definitely see us again in there.

Four of us visited last September, truly awful! Half the dishes were not on menu, place was dead. Food was bland.

We just wanted a nice, good value Sunday lunch and that is exactly what we got. We booked online the day before and although the pub was quiet when we arrived it soon filled up, the service was efficient and friendly and the food came quickly and was of a decent standard. Good solid traditional English pub which we would recommend.

On a day visit saw a placard advertising the eaterie. Ordered superherd’s pie which came with chips and veg. My friend ordered home made meat and potato pie. Both arrived looked and tasted delicious cost with 2 lime and sodas £14 plus lovely friendly welcome

Was in Ripon last weekend looking for somewhere to lunch and came across this establishment. Doesn't look that appealing from the outside and you will have to ignore the 1970's decor, but just wait until you get your food!

Nice location with friendly staff. The Sunday lunch didn't impress me unfortunately, it all looked rather beige and I would have liked more veggie choice. Tasted nice nonetheless.

Called in for a pub lunch. Was not dissapointed. My wife had the fish and hand cut chips and I the liver in onion gravy. If I had 2 stomachs I would have ordered seconds. The landlord was extremely welcoming and everything was clean. Will return shortly.
