The Golden Lion in Richmondshire

Sad state of affair. Proprietor was miserable. Booked through booking.com, owner moaned that we hadn’t paid enough for the room. Room was below par considering they want £90 per person. Bed uncomfortable and old, sink leaked water, no heating. Avoid this place!

Have come here a few times when travelling through the Dales. The Beer and food was great and the service was very welcoming. Always a good laugh with the Landlord. Would highly recommend if your passing through Leyburn

Best Sunday roast I've had in a long time. Friendly staff dog friendly excellent all round.

Had Sunday lunch . Plenty of it , but the beef was too tough and grisly to eat.

Great place to go to the pub has a fantastic atmosphere and is really cosy with open fires and great classic pub food five star would definitely go back and highly recommend a visit

We didn't stay here, just had a couple of drinks in the bar. They had a fair choice of local ales but unfortunately the bitter was way too cold, rendering it pretty tasteless.

We had a great Tapas Night - 19 of us on a walking holiday enjoyed some lovely dishes all at affordable prices, and served by very friendly welcoming staff.

Ordered leek and potato soup with cheese and pickle sandwiches. Also tuna sandwiches for my daughter. The soup was saturated with pepper and one of the the sandwiches had green mould on it. Again one of the tuna sandwiches also green mould. The the bar staff were embarised but gave good service. They gave a refund in cash as the manager was absent for some reason. The problem clearly is on the kitchen and lack of managed supervision. I will not be calling health and safety this time but I will not be returning for food of any kind. However the beer was very good.

Plenty of room but they couldn’t find room for a table of five apparently.

Popped in for lunch. Had steak pie, mash and peas. Simple food but made brilliantly. Lots of gravy. Highly recommended.

Nice place but food was not there best

We went to this pub twice during a weekend break in this lovely part of the Yorkshire Dales. Beers from the local Wendsleydale Brewery, welcoming staff and very dog friendly. Had Sunday lunch and the food was superb and excellent value. The Chef's own pate and Chutney was superior in both quality and quantity to anything I have had as a starter anywhere. The roast pork was cooked to perfection with the accompanying potatoes and vegetables clearly cooked with pride and passion. At least double or may be triple cooked chips, Chef's own tartar sauce and haddock was delightful too. And then one of the best apple crumbles we have ever had with Chef's own fresh custard. We wish we lived here so we could visit again and again.

Very good standard for pub grub prices. No idea about rooms

Booked last minute for a meal for 6 people for friends birthday. Faultless,food gorgeous, good portions. Desserts to die for Lovely friendly staff. Highly recommended

We have just left The Golden Lion after a short break there. Absolutely loved it! The rooms are spacious, clean and the beds are very comfy! Breakfast was excellent with plenty to eat!.. All staff were lovely and very friendly. We will definitely be back!!

During a recent stay we ate here five nights out of six. This isn't a "flash" eatery but it is lovely - the food is freshly prepared, is what it claims to be and is more than generous in the portions. Service is excellent and friendly. Even when it was busy (and it was on the Friday and Saturday we were first there), nobody could fault the staff. As a suggestion to those planning to visit, it is worth booking in advance over the weekend even out of season. The popularity of this place with locals speaks volumes.

Appalling service, seriously understaffed causing very upset and frustrated customers. All food that came ( although very quickly) was over cooked or gloopy. Not impressed. Obviously there is a reason why the pub a couple of doors down is fully booked and this is a walk in with spare seats. We felt sorry for the amazing hard working staff who tried their best.

Four of us ate here on a busy Sat night and the food was generally good, reasonable portions and friendly staff. Banana blossom substitute for fish was weird and not nice in our opinion. My pan fried fish with a really nice sauce and veg was very good indeed. Another veggie meal was average, fourth meal q good. It was not that warm on the busy night towards the kitchen. Visited here several times more for good local beer and many times the pub was not that warm, even when one or two of the fires were lit {they were giving off v little heat}, and one of the log burners was a v large one. Interior quite nice.

Down in Leyburn for a short break - what a find this place is. Very friendly staff - Hi, Claire ! great atmosphere, good beer and delicious food - what's not to like ? Also the locals really friendly - we love this town.
