The Tan Hill Inn was very welcoming. We had a two night stay, the rooms were cosy and spotlessly clean and the food was delicious and excellent value for money.Would definitely highly recommend, and look forward to a second visit.

Pub in remote area serving really good pub food. Menu isn't large, but has a good mixture 8nc. Veg options. No sandwiches, only hot food options. Place felt warm & service was good - but somehow the bar staff didn't feel very welcoming.

We visited this pub on our travels because of word of mouth and it didn’t disappoint! The food was incredible and the two lasses behind the bar were very welcoming and extremely attentive. The drive to the pub is stunning and there is little traffic so you can slow down and enjoy the experience. £10 for a motorhome to stop over. We highly recommend this place !!

Amazing pub in an amazing location, and dog friendly. Had lunch from the smaller appetites menu, I had fish and chips which I couldn’t finish as I was full, and my boyfriend had the Yorkshire pudding. Lots of photos and local history on the walls and surprisingly full for such a remote place. Steady stream of people while we were there. Been wanting to visit for many years and glad I did. Amazing views from the back can see all the traffic on the A66.

Overnight stay at tan hill inn in the deluxe family room. The room itself is quite nice, however could do with a more thorough clean between guests. The floor was very dirty and cob webs all over. Most annoyingly the room is next door to the shared pod bathroom, so constant noise and interruption happens throughout the night. Room also has a lovely large window with a view out over the moorlands, however, slightly ruined by the vehicles parked blocking said view. The inn was relatively busy, but service wasn’t an issue. The food is also pretty average, I had the beef hot pot and partner had the beef pie. The experience overall was fairly good, definitely relies heavily on the “highest in Britain” tag. Would avoid booking same room again, due to mentioned annoyances.

Surrounded by a quiet moorland landscape that once bustled with industry, Tan Hill Inn is a welcome stop with hearty meals and a warm environment. The Dark Skies make this a memorable visit on a clear night, but it's just as atmospheric at other times.

Stunning scenery and enjoyable ride on the way to Tan Hill. Lots of animals n birds along the way. The Tan Hill is the highest pub in England above sea level. They make there own ales which are on tap or you can purchase by the bottle or can. Food is lovely and staff so welcoming. A lovely cosy pub. Two rooms and one with an open fireplace.

As the highest pub in Britain it gets a lot of publicity, especially in the winter when people get stranded here. For me it's been a notable landmark on the Pennine way and somewhere I have wanted to bring the campervan for some time. We arrived on a Friday which is probably not the best day to choose as it gets very busy. But we got a spot opposite the pub mid afternoon and had a short walk along the Pennine way before having an afternoon beer. We then met friends and had an early meal and then more drinks before crashing out in the van for the night. The only problem we had was a group of lads who decided to start a rave in the car park at midnight, but I suspect the landlord was able to sort that out before too long. If you have a van and like pub stops this should probably be on your list, but if you have a choice perhaps avoid weekends 😀 They have a good selection of beers, including their own brand but I'm always drawn to Black Sheep.

This is a very nice pub and well worth a visit if you are in the area. Nicky and Graham were very helpful and the food was very good and a reasonable price. The pub has a nice atmosphere and is always quite busy but you get served very quickly. The pub is in a great location in the Yorkshire dales and is a nice drive up yo it. I would highly recommend this place to all and will definitely return to this place one day. Try it out you won't regret it.

Booked tickets for Kim Wilde which was postponed due to covid. Incredibly poor communication regarding rearranged dates - which they eventually confirmed in June 2024 was not going to happen. Thanks go to Jeni who tried to assist me regarding updates & eventual refund, unfortunately the accounts departments communication and handling of the actual refund was abysmal but I did get it in the end. I appreciate the difficulty with the initial uncertainty, but once it became clear to them that the gig was not going to happen they really should have managed it better.

A venue that should be fantastic, unfortunately just living off its location and claim to fame. Arrived and waited whilst all the staff seemed to be dealing with one customer. Daughter was looking at the speciality hot chocolate menu and was told that the coffee machine wasn’t working. Ordered a couple of pints, sold out of J20’s, offered pineapple juice, went with apple juice. Ran out of crisps, ended up with a mars bar - £14. Staff member joked it had been a nightmare as they’d ran out of gas yesterday so everything was off and when the supplier brought the gas, it was the wrong type. (How? In a place like this, surely you have reserve supplies? Why wait until you’ve ran out to order?) Beer was pulled terribly and was warm, room was cold and draughty. There was a lovely, large log burner, stocked with logs ready to go, but unlit on an awful foggy day on a desolate moor. (Maybe they brought the wrong kind of gas for that too). We looked at the food menu which looked decent if not expensive but decided against it due to the menus being covered in splodges of encrusted gravy. Drank up quickly and left. Decor pleasant if not mismatched with a definite leaning towards selling merchandise. Staff smiley but need a lot of training and some hands on management. Could take a lot of lessons from The Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge.

Third time staying at The Tan Hill. The location is stunning, it was a clear day (and night) so the views were tremendous. But it was definitely much busier this time than the previous two occasions. The amount of camper-vans, tents plus the in-house rooms means the place gets packed and the number of staff is woefully inadequate. There is one queue to order drinks, food, to find your table and even checking in for rooms. Two ladies behind the bar most of the evening is just not enough as the queue snaked out the front door and around the side of the building. That said, they were working their a$$es off, as were the young man and lady who were taking out food orders. The amount of money they must have missed out on whilst people were waiting in line would have easily paid for another couple of staff members. A host at the door on busy days would be a great help. I can only think that maybe it is difficult to find staff to work in the middle of nowhere!!! Still had a fun night but could have been better.

Like most people who visit the Tan Hill Inn it's a bucket list location, we drove up from Reeth avoiding the many sheep and potholes on the way the higher we drove the more bleak the scenery became, eventually out of the bleak we spotted the Inn, it was packed out, lots of people with the same idea obviously. We did get a table and ordered food and drinks 2 x fish and chips, a pint and a glass of wine, pricey at £49. The beer was good the fish and chips not so good soggy batter, it's a nice pub definitely worth a visit just because of where and what it is one of those been there done that. Overhaul Impression though is it's a tourist trap.

I camped here for a night while walking the Pennine Way. Campsite is quite basic, but fine. As for the pub itself, another reviewer summed it up very well: it's an ok pub, it just happens to be the highest. It is a nice pub but quite full of itself which is a bit off-putting. Obviously no locals, everyone has travelled miles to get here and that affects the atmosphere. Food was fine, nothing special, service adequate. Quite expensive, but that's fair enough. Location is stunning of course. I wouldn't go out of my way to drive here but for Pennine Way walkers it's a very handy stop between Hawes and Middleton. If I did it again I'd probably camp at Keld though and stop here for breakfast.

On a cycle ride on the Tan Hill loop (via Reeth and Keld) we stopped at the Inn for lunch. With occasional sunshine warmth we chose to have lunch outside. Prices for food are high and while the presentation of our food was good, it was disappointing in flavour and enjoyment. For example my garlic mushrooms came in a golden brown sauce that had a bitter, mustardy taste and my wife's vegetable soup was completely devoid of flavour. My son was a little more complimentary about his pie and gravy. Tan Hill is an iconic spot which should be visited, but not for its food.

First time visit here. Looked at the menu online before we visited and the prices were fairly high for pub food so had high expectations. However, we were very dissapointed. The food was very basic at best. Majority of dishes the food comes in pots and baskets so portions are nothing to boast about. The average price for a meal you were looking at £18 but it was more £8-£12 standard at best. The pub itself was nice and quirky and service was ok but I certainly would not return. Had I read the reviews on here regarding the food I probably wouldn't of visited.

We stayed the night which was nice but the food served wasn't nice at all. I had the beef hotpot. It was roast beef added to gravy and vegetables, but because the meat hadn't been cooked with the stew, it has no flavour. The mash was powdered mash. I then had the trifle and it was tinned custard and tinned fruit.

We had nice service—I mean, really nice—the super slim lady in black huggy leggings, with long black hair....you gave a friendly smile, were polite, attentive, and were super quick. The food was also good, not the biggest portions I have had in a pub, but it was all very filling, quick, and well presented. Some friends and I stayed there on our coast to coast cycle and I believe it saved our lives - exhausted, cold, wet and hungry, the only thing that got us to the top of the Pennines is the knowledge that Tan Hill was there I promised them the best pub in the world and it delivered - fantastic ales, beautiful rooms (astonishing shower), amazing dinner, perfect breakfast, accommodating staff and a real sense of shared experience amongst the guests who were there at the same time It really is a marvellous place, a gem in the heart of uncompromising lands - the staff even washed and dried all our horrific cycling gear Stay here, if you can. As regulars, we returned to the Tan Hill on Saturday for our usual jaunt and well deserved and much appreciated pint (or two 😉). Having booked our usual table for our evening meal well in advance, we checked this before heading to our rooms to freshen up as we could see how busy it was and heard people requesting tables being turned away. However, we were told that, despite our request, our table had been booked out for someone else. This was quickly resolved though, thank you. Upon ordering, there were a few items unavailable sadly that we had chosen. Our meals were brought out in stages. There were 6 of us and two of the starters and mains came much, much after the others (the two mains appear to had been forgotten as they didn’t come until a while after we had had to chase them up). Despite the wait, the food was lovely. The service however let it down as, in addition to the long waits, we also kept being brought meals that weren’t ours including the garlic mushrooms which we had in fact tried to order but were told were unavailable! We then joined the entertainment in the barn. Jonny Boyle was absolutely brilliant - really made our night! Very good singer, acoustic and very entertaining! We then headed to our rooms for a well needed rest. The rooms, as always, were lovely. Very clean and very comfortable with amazing views. In the morning we arrived slightly before our reserved breakfast time of 09:30. There was no bread available for toast and no glasses available for juice. Another couple raised this and were brought two glasses, two plates and a small amount of bread for toast - nothing for anyone else waiting. One of our party is gluten free and, when we were eventually attended (after an excess of a 20 minute wait) we asked if there was a gluten free option breakfast available (as we had seen on the website that gluten free options were available). Whilst a gluten free option of a bacon sandwich on gluten free bread was available, we don’t really feel that is much of a ‘choice’ and certainly not worth the value of the breakfast we had paid for. After the young lady attending on us went off to check that they did in fact have gluten free bread available and, after another lengthy wait, she returned to confirm there was but, sadly by this point we were all beyond frustrated and decided to head off as we were already way behind with our schedule for the day. The young lady was very apologetic and we would like to raise that we could see that she was very much under pressure and was trying to manage too many things at once. We actually felt quite sorry for her. We could see that others were also having a disappointing experience. This is not the standard and experience we are used to. However, we will return in the hope that improvements to management will be made.

My wife and I had been planning to visit the Tan Hill Inn for a while so booked this weekend off. We drove up in our camper and we were lucky enough to find a park up right at the side of the Inn, even better they had a shower for use by all. We had previously booked in for a table of two at 8.30, all good we walked in to find our table duly reserved. What we found was a bustling beutuful character country Pub very welcoming and cosy all real positives. Unfortunately that's were it all fell apart. We placed our order and waited 45 minutes for a very mediocre and small portion of Ham hock terrine with crusty ciabbata. It tasted OK but the portion size and presentation was poor. Finally after what seemed a forevor wait our two main courses arrived beef brisket with mashed potato and fine beans & fish, chips and mushy please. The fish and chips looked good and my wife dud enjoy it, the beef brisket was another story. A few meagre slices of cooked beef in gravy with diced veg, it tasted OK, but that was it nothing special. The mashed potato served with the dish was tepid and powdery and tbh tasted like "smash". The fine beans from what I could gather had been boiled and dry fryed such was the scorching on them and again they were like warm. The whole meal with 2 pints of Pilsner came to £57, just not worth it on food qaulity and service alone. All I can say is this is pub trading off past glory and the fact that it holds the accolade of Britain's highest Pub, Sadly the food dosent live up to the hype and is a victim of its own success, it's good to be busy but not at the expense of the customers experience. To be truly good at what you do, you need to know the linits of what you can handle and do consistently well. Your kitchen is obviously put under far to much pressure and as such fails to deliver on the above points. Sadly, as a Footnote to my above comments, this morning many customers were coming out of the pub complainibg what a bad experience they had had at breakfast. It's worth remembering people very rarely tell others when they have a had a good experience, howevor you can be rest assured they tell whoever they can when they've had a bad one.

Tan Hill pub doe not have a campsite but does allow small tents for hikers to camp a few meters away with access to a toilet and shower. It should be noted this is a very basic toilet and shower which is a bit tired, so much so none of us bothered using it. There is a 10 pound donation to air ambulance to camp. The pub can get very busy so make sure you book a table on your arrival and do not expect to get a place. As there is no formal site it relies on people removing their own litter, which you should anyway, however being very busy pub and not everyone with same standards there was some unsightly litter where the tents are allowed. There was nice flat area with well keep grass to camp.

Delightful journey to get here. Plenty of parking. Plenty of bespoke items for sale. Good selection of beers. Nice warmopen fire. The decor is a visual delight with a great atmosphere - lots of folk relaxing, chatting, etc. A good selection of photographs of the inn over the years.

We had dinner, spent the night, and had breakfast the next morning. Great place to stop on our drive home to Scotland from visiting England. Dinner was excellent. We were there on a Sunday night so unfortunately we couldn't order off the full menu, but still really enjoyed our meals. Our room (Standard) was small but very comfortable. The bed was large and comfy, and the en-suite, while tiny, was serviceable. Breakfast the next morning was tasty. We will definitely make this a regular stop on our way home.

After a 90min car journey listening to the kids say “are we there yet” every 2 minutes and driving on roads that made the wife wet herself with both fear and excitement. We got to the Tan Hill Inn. The scenery was amazing and the pub was warm and welcoming. The food was beautiful and the staff were lovely. The only down side to the trip was, we didn’t get snowed in.

Booked to stay in a pod, the tall guy who checked us in was great, friendly informative and nothing seemed a bother, this is a very busy place full of campers, vans and bikers, we found our food to be good on the afternoon, very tasty but slightly under temperature, the breakfast was brilliant 10/10, just a reminder to serve the right pint in the right glass would be a help, staying in the pod has its downside with the shared bathroom and regardless of what people say it is inconvenient waiting for someone to finish their shower, will return and bring friends just to experience this place, the pub is rustic and has loads of character but certain things need a good scrub and the outdoors needs a good declutter and tidy up, excellent visit, potentially amazing

Probably one of the most famous pubs in the country with outstanding views and set in a beautiful part of the world. Serving some great beers, especially Old Peculiar…. SADLY NOT ONE MEMBER OF STAFF KNOWS HOW TO PULL A DECENT PINT. Still worth a visit though

My family and I celebrated my Uncle's 90th birthday with a lunch at Tan Hill last weekend. There were 16 of us in total and a few of us stayed overnight too. The experience we had was nothing short of brilliant. Our large table was in the Barn - we had loads of space, food (Sunday lunch) was delicious and the service was great. Those of us who stayed over enjoyed cosy, clean rooms that were tastefully decorated and had all the 'extras' you could want for. Breakfast was great too. Have been coming to Tan Hill for 50+ years as a family so it was a treat to celebrate a special birthday and stay overnight at the inn. Can't wait to return! Thanks to all the staff who made our visit so wonderful.

We had been before for a Sunday lunch and been impressed. Unfortunately this time we were not impressed. The lady at the bar was snappy and couldn't manage a warm welcome. Sat down at our reserved table after ordering a Sunday lunch. Good amount of meat and nice Yorkshire pud but just 2 roast potatoes, bit of mash and poor carrots and what I think may have been parsnip but it was so hard I couldn't get my teeth in! Whilst we were eating, snappy bar lady came and bollocked two couples for sitting at reserved tables (they were already eating), how embarrassing! Ordered a pudding, when it finally came it was wrong. Pretty poor for a 'tourist' spot to be honest. Shame really.

We had high expectations as we had heard so much about this place. I have to say on approach the place looked like a scrap yard. Lots of vehicle’s parked at the front. Messy frontage. Very pleasant inside though, cosy and warm. Unfortunately heavy rock was blaring, on a Sunday lunchtime. Bizarre!! Lady behind the bar that served us was very unfriendly. All in all we won’t be rushing back. Such a shame.

We didn't stay here, just had a couple of drinks in the bar. They had a fair choice of local ales but unfortunately the bitter was way too cold, rendering it pretty tasteless.

Dirty rooms, vomit-inducing breakfast, dreadful. It's such a shame, as it's in a prime location.

Not my favourite place to eat , but my partner is gluten intolerant and is well catered for . I ordered the breakfast which on a whole is ok , I swapped the hash browns with my partner for her tomato. But I’m constantly disappointed with the wafer of black pudding. I once paid for extra and asked to just get one decent slice , but instead I was served 2 wafers of black pudding. Edited to add that despite the General manager requesting I contact to discuss this ( which I did ) I have had no response from them after a week.edited to add still no response after 4 weeks . Received an email from the GM after 4 weeks with an apology and an assurance that the portion of Black pudding I had received on several occasions was not company standard. Apparently it has been raised with the chef and from now on everyone will receive a proper slice of Black pudding. I was also given a £30 voucher so I might just see how much Black pudding I can get for that So I received a voucher and the email I’ve added , along with a picture of today’s Black pudding ration . As you can see the portion is no different to any other time I’ve been there . I spoke to a former chef who worked at the lounge in Ripon and he confirmed that a wafer is not the company spec. So why do the Morro lounge continue to serve this pathetic portion?

Friendly atmosphere from locals and staff. Traditional UK country pub. My room was great but may need a lick of paint to freshen it up. I will go back to the same pub/ hotel next time I visit the area. Great location for amenities and public transport, local shops etc. only tried the breakfast which was good other bar snacks and meals available.

I booked with booking.com , which I cancelled the booking well within the free cancellation period , the hotel took the full money out two days after I cancelled , also today I have noticed thes the same amount pending on my account , I have tried reaching out to them , left messages on answering machine , I have heard nothing back , please be careful and never leave your card details.
