Turf in Richmondshire

The Richmond branch of the Royal British Legion met for the first time in February. We were made very welcome and looked after. Food was provided on time was value for money and of good quality.

Went for Sunday lunch with the son, his partner & 2 children, 6&7. Lovely 2 course meal, very accommodating towards the children. Nice place, atmosphere and generally made it a nice time. Staff very helpful and friendly. Would recommend

Food is very reasonable, but I think they need to change the fat. i had some chips, and they tasted not great, but I was hungry, so I ate them ..

Nice place, a 'locals' pub and nothing wrong with that. There's some friendly banter going on in here which adds to the good atmosphere.

Friendly atmosphere from locals and staff. Traditional UK country pub. My room was great but may need a lick of paint to freshen it up. I will go back to the same pub/ hotel next time I visit the area. Great location for amenities and public transport, local shops etc. only tried the breakfast which was good other bar snacks and meals available.

Unfussy accommodation. It's clean and comfortable. The staff are excellent and super friendly with a big Yorkshire welcome waiting for you. They're also unobtrusive and want you to feel at home. Excellent place to stay at a very reasonable price point.

Had a wonderful Sunday Lunch. Lovely and clean. Staff very friendly. Husband had beef and i had chicken This is a dog friendly pub.

On reaching Richmond during our Coast to Coast walk we Popped in to The Turf hotel for a beer and a bite to eat, Hannah was very welcoming and looked after us brilliantly the food was very nice and the beer went a treat 😋

Food lovely and service excellent

It was a visit for a function in the function room. Service was good, and the staff were pleasant enough. Food was good.

One of the dirtiest rooms I have been in. I did not know, I had to share a bathroom and shower that were both dirty and uncleaned. We were told that no one else was staying at the hotel, but there was. I think another 3 rooms were occupied. And any of the pub visitors could gain access to the bathroom. (I could hear the bathroom doors opening and closing a lot) The one bedside table was very badly damaged. There was an ironing board in our small room. The TV was on the wall at 90 degrees to the bed. The waste bin next to the sink had not been emptied. We were told we had to go to a different hotel to get our breakfast, and had to be there before 9am as the kitchen is closed at 9am. A half mile walk in the rain to get your breakfast, is not the best way to start your day. On the Friday lots of blue bags, I think laundry bags, were left outside and along the passage walkway. No safety measures were considered when these were dumped here. We would have left that hotel, but our circumstances and trying to book another place at short notice was considered. My wife was so stressed and upset, I have never seen her in that state before.

Good friendly, well worth a visit

We ate at the Turf Hotel, Richmond while staying at the Buck Inn and walking the Coast to Coast Trail. We all enjoyed dinner, my pie was very good. We thought the meal and drinks were very good value.

Excellent friendly service and good value for money, photo doesn’t do the food we ordered justice but it was very tasty and definitely worth doubling up on the burgers 🍔

Had a fab time at the turf.very polite staff bedroom very clean.Breakfast beautiful plenty on the plate fit for a king.Had a chat with chief who was very polite and helpful would definitely stay again.

Lovely place to stay over. The room was clean and tidy and well worth the money for an overnight stay with breakfast included. The the bed was amazingly comfortable. The full English breakfast was delicious, staff were brilliant....I would highly recommend🙂

We reserved a table for 4 people for a Sunday lunch. Table was set and ready on arrival. Served quickly. Food was fantastic. Staff were friendly.

Great centrally placed pub hotel

Visited the Turf Hotel along with another 56 people on Saturday for a couple of hours. Absolutely amazing service and very warm welcome from the Team. Hannah and her staff were amazing and looked after us by providing a fantastic service which included music and beautiful food. We all had an amazing afternoon and cant wait to go back. Thank you once again.

Just called in for drinks not food so cant comment on food but service was fine ,prices reasonable and although not many in has it was early but would return if in richmond again

This is a child and dog friendly pub with a bar and beer garden and the food is made with good quality ingredients and has enough on the menu to suit most people so overall a good pub

Its back better than it ever was. Home cooked food. Chips awesome. Friendly staff. Great chef. Cant recommend it enough. Dont go anywhere else.

One of the best puds in Richmond for food, drink and the music on a weekend is always good for a dance. Bar staff are a laugh and always friendly

Don't book unless you're sure they are going to be open. Booked 2 nights 3 weeks ago, cancelled today because it's been sold, and the new owners are apparently closing at the end of July, therefore cancelling bookings! Ridiculous.

We came to Richmond on Thursday 22nd and stayed elsewhere. We popped in to the turf. We had a disabled person with us. All l can say we didn't move from the turf. The bar staff she was a dream thank you we were loud, no problem a beautiful place 100%costumers were mint. An Irish girl who was a catterick. Because we were going to our grandsons passing out parade. Anyway the turf 100%%and thank you for your help little bar girl ❤️❤️👌👍👏👏👏👏Ps we only had drinks no food

Current owners (Vixen) pulling out, and is currently being run as a sinking ship. May be worth holding off until a new captain is installed🤨

The best Sunday Lunch we've had in a long time. Desserts were also to die for. Excellent service the staff are very welcoming and friendly.

Went into The Turf in a recent trip to Richmond. The last time we came up a year or so ago it was closed and has since reopened under new management. We went in years ago and could only go in the bar side with our dog. This time was able to go in the lounge area with our dog which was great. We really enjoyed it here. Had a great pint and the interior of the pub is warm and welcoming. The layout is really quirky over a couple of levels which worked well for us as our dog is anxious around other dogs so easily found a spot we could get him comfy in. Will definitely go back again on future trips.

What a lovely place, we stayed before lockdown and booked few days ago the staff were so friendly very chatty the room was spotless lovely and warm and cosy couldn't ask for more 😊

All good. Quiet when we visited.

Friendly lady welcomes for the “restaurant” however …. its a sports pub serving food. Only roasts available on Sundays so don’t bother reading the rest of the menu. You get a full plate but cold vegetables and dried out pre sliced meat. Service is slow particularly for deserts. The crumble described as rhubarb was with added apple which had hard pieces where it had not been cored properly. We were there for over two hours for a mediocre meal in a room with a tv on the wall with live football which is off putting with young children. All I can say if you want a pub with poor pub grub and tv and near the market square then this is for you.

Went here for my birthday meal and The food was lovely, the service was great and the staff made you feel so welcome and they were so polite. Would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone. Had a fab night and would definitely go again.

Came here yesterday for a family meal. Food and drinks were delicious. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend and we will definitely be coming back.

Lovely hotel great location friendly and helpful staff had a superb Sunday lunch .

We went here after Remembrance and booked a table which was easy and they were very helpful at short notice for 6 of us. We already knew what we wanted to eat, a Sunday roast (avoid washing up enabling cabbage setting on the sofa instead of cooking and cleaning all afternoon). The price is reasonable, especially for the quality and quantity, with free Yorkshire pudding and roast potato top up. We were stuffed! However, you always have room for a pudding, chocolate cake and ice cream, big portions! Very happy and thing we have found our ‘out out’ for Sunday dinner. Definitely recommend!

Called in for lunch today,. Very impressed, drinks cheap, amazing meals for under a fiver, I had chicken burger, my husband had pie, good quality and portions, barman very friendly and helpful.

A No Frills Stay, with basic amenities. Under new ownership, so worth keeping an eye on. Shared shower and toilet facilities aren't to everyone's taste, so check beforehand. Is in a excellent position but check where you can park.

Nice spot for a drink on a sunny day. Food looked good. Situated on a roundabout in town so outside seating was busy. Recommend though. Staff were very nice.

Standard pub with reasonable choice of beers and outside seating area. Men's main bar toilet was flooded on our Saturday early evening visit.

Staff are lovely and tried to get us a refund as due to the heat we couldn't risk traveling our dog, sadly we didn't hear back about it. But the staff were very helpful. The hotel itself was a bit shabby. The sky light was not shut properly and there was a bucket under it and the pigeons woke us up in the morning on the roof. The room itself was small and the window held open by the bar of the kettle. We would be unlikely to return. It needs a make over. Breakfast was good.

Nice ale pie but disappointing fish and chips: not very crispy batter and undercooked chips. Very good beer and friendly and helpful staff.

Well, it was interesting. The room had some poor elements to it, it has to be said, but even so it didn't spoil our time there. Add on points for (largely) friendly staff, and a stonkingly good breakfast, and you can't help appreciate the handy location. Ample parking is but a short stroll away with overnight stays at under a fiver. Just don't watch Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds before staying the night.

called in for a meal tonight my partner and his son found their meals OK I had the steak and mushroom pie think the mushrooms had up and left the pie needed a chisel to cut it the mash was nice just a shame about the pie service was just OK but I think because they seemed to be short staffed the bonus is I have just realised I can cook a good pub meal

Great food and service. Brilliant selection of vegetarian options. Very tasty and enjoyed it. The team looked after us well. Would come back next time I'm in the area.

We were passing and spotted this place as being the nearest to where we got parked. Ordered drinks and food and found a table my beer wasn't very nice but i was distracted by my food arriving within a few minutes of me sitting down. The meat was edible but everything else was beyond poor. Yorkshire pudding was flat and undercooked, veg was stewed and tasteless, roasted potato had a strange taste and the little bit of mash potato was appalling. We left virtually two plates of food and my drink. Toilets were visited on the way out and as expected were nowhere clean enough.

Great location, nice room, comfy bed and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I think they had an off day with the breakfast.

This is pub grub done pretty well and not too pricey!! So if you want something quick and filling; this fits the bill!! We had a variety of dishes all adequate portions and served hot. Apple Crumble is great!! Couple I was with have had Sunday Lunch recently and were very complimentary. Added bonus was that the service was excellent. Helpful, cheerful and quick!!

Clean and tidy room. Fantastic and friendly staff. The bar was well stocked and the food was tasty with big portions. Will be back very soon.

I travel for work every week and so I get to see the bad and the good. The staff are super friendly and my room is nice, clean and comfy. I ordered the steak and ale pie and I have not had such a delicious meal in some time. Everything was clearly home made which makes a massive difference. Very very tasty and a lovely presented place. The of the easiest 5 stars I have given!

Came here just for cold drinks on a very hot day!!! Outside seating available back or front of pub, food menu looked fab and reasonable priced, however we didnt plan to eat till evening so didnt have food.Would recommend.

Only watched a game of football here, had a few pints before moving on. Bar staff forgot to bring change then charged too much for what I had.... all very pleasant and helpful though and will go back for a drink when in the area. Outside drinking area but can't recall seeing any parking.

Good meal and good service. Recommend the 10oz ham, chunky chips, egg and peas.

Went inside and was td to go outside and wait. Waited for 20 minutes and staff were still all cowering inside. Pubs like this will soon close their doors... And quite right too.

We ate here twice and both times the meals were so very tasty, Hunters chicken and Ribs, then we stopped for a Sunday lunch a two course the starters were really good but the slow roast beef was amazing the gravy had beef bits in not runny stuff with no taste (proper gravy) would most definitely eat here again.

Really good pub, very nice inside and has a cool beer garden with hear lights etc. Always has such a lively and happy environment, the staff are really friendly and the food is exceedingly good quality for a good price. Drinks are well priced too with a good selection including pale ales.
