The Golden Heart in South Gloucestershire

Warm welcome by gentleman at bar at front of house. He booked us in and took us to our table, and explained how everything would run. He was sociable without being over the top, and then took drinks order. The lady Helene who served us was extremely pleasant and helpful. She was, like all the staff very efficient and we were not waiting long at any time. The food was extremely good, and the puddings unique and unusual, which we thoroughly enjoyed. This was our first visit to the Golden Heart, and we thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, outlook and rooed. We have already booked for Valentines,. so you should assume that we were very happy with our experience

I went here with a few friends a few weeks ago for Sunday lunch. (December 2024). I was quite disappointed. It was one of the highest priced roasts in Bristol. I had the pork. It came out with hardly anything on the plate! The pork was tiny, literally about 5 bites. Big Yorkshire pudding which was nice but very limited veg that you have to share with another person. We had to ask for more gravy. Small amount of food for the price. Very expensive for what we had. Thankfully we had a voucher for a free starter and thankfully they do NHS discount which was nice of them. Nice atmosphere and pub. Funny smell when we walked in, smelt like urine. Obviously it wasn't, it must have possibly been fish but not pleasant. We were also asked to vacate the table after only 1 hour 30 minutes. We didn't have dessert as we wouldn't have had time! I won't be going back in a hurry.

We recently celebrated my dad’s 80th birthday at The Goldenheart and there were 11 of us. I don’t normally write reviews but this place deserves one. From the moment we arrived to us leaving, the service was above and beyond and the food delicious. It has a really pretty restaurant area and I imagine in the summertime eating outside the views will be incredible. Thank you to the staff for making it such an incredible day, we really appreciated it. We will be back. Amanda

Lovely staff, incredibly attentive and welcoming. Service was prompt without feeling pressured and very professional. Food was delightful, my only personal criticism is about portion sizing being a bit under my expectations but otherwise a lovely outing to the Golden Heart. Truly do recommend stopping here.

The food and drinks inside certainly compliment the lovely looking pub that it is. Our food was hot and tasty and service alongside it was excellent.

Bar was almost empty but waited ages to get served as the one staff person was attending to someone in the restaurant. Beer was overpriced (London prices) and not especially welcoming. Looked at menu with intention to come back for a meal. Nice menu and restaurant layout but not a family type place unless you have plenty of money.

Right, where to even begin with this culinary catastrophe at The Golden Heart Bristol last night? I took my family, bless their cotton socks, for what I hoped would be a pleasant Sunday supper, and it turned into a right dog’s dinner. Let me tell you, it was less Golden Heart and more lead balloon. First off, the fish and chips. Now, I've seen better chips clinging to the bottom of a deep fat fryer after a week's worth of abuse. These were cold, soggy, and about as appealing as a wet weekend in Weston-super-Mare. One portion even came with a fish fillet that looked like it had been through a shrinking machine – half the size of the others! It was like they’d run out of fish and just thought, "Ah, sod it, they won't notice." Then there was my mother, God love her. She asked if she could swap her mushy peas for another vegetable. A reasonable request, you’d think? Oh no. What arrived was a small mountain of raw peppers and cucumber, chopped with all the care of a toddler wielding a butter knife. It was like they’d raided the salad garnish and called it a day. My son, bless his heart, ordered the “prime” cheeseburger. Prime? It was drier than a nun’s biscuit! He might as well have been chewing on a handful of desert sand. And the cherry on top? He woke up in the night feeling nauseous. I wouldn’t be surprised if that burger was the culprit. And finally, the seafood linguine. Oh, the linguine. It was so bland it could have cured insomnia. I took a forkful and honestly, I nearly choked. It tasted like something you’d find washed up on the beach after a particularly nasty storm. It was borderline off. It was clear that the chef was phoning it in and not putting their heart and soul into their cooking. This wasn’t a cheap meal, either. I feel ripped off and embarrassed in front of my parents. I won't be going back there.

Had 2 Sunday lunches, which arrived 2 mins after placing the order! Both were cold, not just for us but every table around us complained. Saw 5 tables request new plates. The food didn't taste of anything really. Very bland. Pretty pub but below average food.

Always excellent food and always excellent customer service with genuine happy staff.. The drinks take far too long to be brought to the table so this needs improvement.

We came in last night for my daughter’s 18th, having never been here before. The staff were friendly, attentive and very efficient. Dietary requirements were catered for and had plenty of gluten free options so I didn’t feel short changed (as you can in a lot of restaurants). The food was delicious and fresh and we really enjoyed it. We would definitely come again - thank you!

Went there last night with my Husband for some drinks and was served by a helpful young man called Max behind the Bar. He helped find gluten free drinks I could have and the service was amazing. Thank you Max.

Met here with family we hadn't seen for over a year and what a beautiful place. We had a variation of food from the menu, including a gorgeous mulled wine. We were not rushed at all and felt like we could be at our table for as long as we wanted. Our mini puddings were not served with our hot chocolate so we were offered free hot chocolates to make up for this.Two young male servers and again very pleasant and friendly. Lovely setting and good service. But the portion sizes of everything are very small. I had a Turkey roast dinner and there was 1 carrot, 1 sprout and 1 half of a parsnip, 2 small roast potatoes. I had to have a dessert as I was still hungry.

I honestly think I’ve tried nearly every single item from the menu now. But this steak was lush! I swapped the chips for the chive mash & it came with garlic butter on top. If you are looking for a country pub … this is the place to go! 🫶🏻

Nice pub helpful staff.only had a drink sold New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc which is great for me.Non alcoholic cocktails which was good for my daughter who is pregnant and struggles to find anything decent to drink when she goes out.

Had the squid starter. Best I've ever had Lamb for main really good. Great gravy and meat cooked perfectly. Good beers on offer. There were 27 of us in the group with not 1 complaint. Well worth a visit.

Great food, service and choices. Unfortunately one of the meals wasn't very warm and suspect had been sitting around for the second diners meal ( Pie meal not very warm, lamb dish hot). But usually perfect. Love visiting. 1 star removed this visit for one main not hot enough

My partner had chicken liver parfait and I had cheese mushrooms for starter, we both had beef with mash and tender stem broccoli. Negroni to start and two glasses of Chardonnay. Food, lovely tasty, portions a little small. Negronie nice, Chardonnay lacked taste. Overall very good, worth £100.00??

On Tuesday, there was a girl, I think her name is Fern but I’m not too sure. Anyways, she was so lovely, friendly and very welcoming. I would definitely recommend to all my friends and family.

This pub provides delicious food, well presented and quietly and efficiently served. This was my first time here and I was taking my son out for dinner. There was plenty of seating inside and out on a very warm evening. The menu has a lot of choice and it was refreshing to see imaginative dish selection to tempt a wide range of tastes. Prices are not cheap but I felt I had good value for money. If like me you are tall you will need to watch your head because the ceilings in the older part of the premises are very low. Do try here. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Ate lunch here a couple of days ago at 2pm. There were no staff in the bar area and we had to walk into the restaurant to get their attention to order food. The food we had was really nice and the pub is immaculate but the lack of service really did let it down.

We had lunch at the Golden Heart on Tuesday 24th September. We were celebrating an event, and the guy in charge made us feel very welcome and made a fuss over us. Excellent food as always, and at the same price range as the other local restaurants.

Rubbish salad, very poor quality and value food. huge chunks of tomato, very unrefined presentation..totally disappointed with a celebration meal for our 53rd wedding anniversary meal.

Environment was great, food was great, lovely pub. Two small issues - too much salt on the Onion Rings and our dessert order was not processed (bill adjusted accordingly). Overall really enjoyed our visit.

Wanted two items from the lunch menu and neither were available! Had to chose something from the (more expensive!) main menu. Very expensive for lunchtime!! Especially as we only had one drink each!

I have been here a few times, got to say they provide some of the best pub food amongst all the pubs i ve ever been. This is now my standard restaurant to go whenever i have friends and relatives visiting from overseas!! Their Sunday Roast is exceptionally good!!

Had a fantastic birthday dinner at Golden Heart last night. They never disappoint! Food is 5* as always, immaculate presentation and taste amazing. Cozy atmosphere, especially with the log fire. Staff were very accommodating, friendly and polite. And thank you to Callum at the bar who finished our night off with his perfectly made cocktail's. :)

Place was nearly empty at the time we visited. 3 tables occupied and nobody in the bar. Food was OK but nothing to write home about. Even with a 50% discount on mains it was still expensive for what it was. £11 for a G and T. Overpriced- won't be hurrying back.

Very good food , surprise there is some Asian twist in some dishes , like fried chicken and crispy duck noodles salad . Pork belly is delicious. Food was great with beautiful plating .

We often eat at the Golden Lion as the food is amazing. We visited again recently but had a small issue with my wife’s starter. The manager who I believe is called Stu was very apologetic and offered my wife a complimentary drink as a good will gesture.

Dog friendly, plenty of parking, fast and friendly service, delicious dirty burger with beef dripping. Deserves 4.5 ⭐ We will be back, thank you 👏🏻

Everyone enjoyed their meals which consisted of starters, main course and dessert. However I thought the portion size for the Roast Pork Belly was extremely small compared to other cheaper options and it was a bit stranger to have to pay £6 extra for two small scallops.

Such a shame to be writing this review, I visited last week with my fiancee for a celebratory meal after I was offered a new job - ironically I think this venue needs to be recruiting some new staff. The food is good and the pub/restaurant has a nice vibe but the chef and aesthetics are completely let down by the clueless at best and rude at worst staff! There’s members of staff stood round doing nothing while you have to wait at the bar, on entry with a reservation we were ignored then to be told to sit ourselves down. Drinks take half an hour to come and that with several reminders to the staff. Food comes when they want. No one checks in on you when you have food. You’re left with dirty plates between starters and main courses. It’s just awful. We asked where drinks were to be told “I don’t know” and this was on a night where it seemed quiet! Other customers were also complaining all around us - I would avoid this and go to the white horse in Hambrook instead… we definitely wouldn’t return!

I had a great experience today at the Golden Heart, We were greeted by the Host, Stuart where he explained about we can either sit inside or outside in the beautiful beer garden, order a couple of cocktails which were top notch. Would recommend

Really nice and cosy dog friendly pub. The only thing that lets it down slightly is the food slightly. The side dishes are really nice but the mains have proven a little disappointing on the occasions I have visited. The cocktails are really good so it’s still a great place for a drink and light snack.

Really lovely pub, with delicious food, good service and nice atmopshere. Only giving 4 stars on this occasion, as the booking system didn't work, and because I don't feel they're great for allergies/special diets. The allergens were very clearly labelled on an ipad, but the choices were very limited compared to the main menu, and I had to sign a cross contamination waiver, which I've never had to do elsewhere, and made me feel rather unsafe. The children's vegetarian options were margarita pizza of pasta and tomato sauce - children who are vegetarians can handle much more adventurous food than this, so much daughter was disappointed at the selection, although once we added halloumi fries as a side she was happier.

Fish n chips, smallist portion of rock hard chips .fish was OK full of grease Minted pea puree, well no mint frozen pees theat were mostly smashed up by a 2 year old Not worth the price they charge 7 quid a pint of shandy , 8 for larger not happy

Had a Sunday roast delivered !!! Wow !! Everything was perfect ! Huge yorkshires absolutely spot on . The bread sauce was amazing ! Gravy and the cheese donuts !! Wow !!

Visited with my husband, looking forward to a Sunday roast. We had to wait a while to place our order, but once we did it came out in about five minutes. I ordered pork, well it came out and the piece of belly pork they served me was about half an inch wide and four inches long!! I did complain and the young guy who served us was so apologetic and took it away, I said that I would have the chicken instead. He brought back a large portion of chicken, but unfortunately it wasn’t cooked well, it was still pink. The veg was ok, super huge Yorkshire but roast potatoes weren’t very well cooked. The service was good, but the food was poor. When the bill came they said they had knocked off £10 for the mistake with the pork, which was very kind of them. However, we wouldn’t return for food in a hurry. In addition, the toilets were not clean and in desperate need of redecorating. On the plus side the garden is lovely.
