Fairbanks fish and chips are usually very good which is why we decided to buy cod & chips for dinner this evening. We were really looking forward to eating it. I wish we had gone elsewhere. Don’t know whatever happened this evening. I took food home in a thermal bag to keep it hot, I had a 4 minute drive home, once home discovered food barely warm, cod batter soggy and chips rock hard. Won’t be returning in a hurry.

It was very busy so decided to sit outside order on their preferred order system on line. I was given a time 30 minutes went in to be told to join the queue. And wait. What’s the point in ordering. Crap service won’t be going back. Useless customer service staff don’t gaf

Waited ages just for chips and curry sauce only to receive chips with mushy peas, chips are tasty but I don’t know how hard it is to get an order right and why it took so long

I recently ordered battered sausage and chips x2. During the extremely short wait I complained to my misses about the price of fish and chips today. Upon reflection the food here was very reasonably priced for a more than respectable portion and I feel like a bit of a prick. Good chippie, would go again.

Great chips, and they take cards! Chicken nuggets are excellent too.

Used to be brilliant but now overpriced and ran by kids. One customer who went in for chips ended up waiting 15 minutes. Other customers then had to wait for another batch of chips. Deliveroo drivers waiting for his pick up. Food is okay once you finally get it

Unfortunately, normal very good, food and service and I use this shop regularly. But today, they decided to just close an hour and 10 minutes before they should do and chosen let down the side. Staff were very smug and thought it was funny, as I was told they were not cooking anymore! THEY should change their attitude towards this type of behaviour. 😣😣😣

We’ve been using Fairbanks for a while now & love their fish & chips. Thought we’d try their faggot meal for a change - what a mistake! Chips were warm, mushy peas warm & tasteless. The faggots were dreadful. Dry, solid, no taste, no gravy & left a nasty after taste - yuk! Would’ve found cardboard more appealing. Total waste of money.

Great battered halloumi and chips and cheesy chips. Other chip shops I've tried locally don't offer halloumi. They have a separate fryer for gluten intolerance. Friendly helpful members of staff. Quick service

Got home and there were parts missing off the order so check before you leave. Fish was lovely until you got to the middle where it was cold. Couldn’t eat it but the cat was happy. Won’t be going back …

Expensive chips for what you get. £4.25... It also took over 20 minutes to cook them as they cook to order which I found a little strange for a chip shop. I wasn't overwhelmed.

I really like this place, especially as it offers gluten free fish and chips. The food is pretty good. The large chips is a very decent sized portion. The online booking system is abit of a faff if you need to change the quantities of something and it was not easily navigated through the link from Google maps.

Went for takeaway Thursday evening after a long day and football training. Big portions, best chips in the area (other than Salt and Malt), moist and delicious cod. I’m gluten intolerant and love that these guys do gluten free properly - no cross contamination. Kids meals were good value. Friendly service too. Thanks

Absolutely terrible service, portion size of so called large chips awful. Didn’t deliver an item and I was told I’d need to reorder at my own expense for the missing item id paid for !! Spoke to the “manager” - who needs some training on how to deal with customer service . I suggest you don’t waste your money.

Lovely chips, sadly not much for a vegetarian as a main meal. No vege pies or pasties, curry sauce had beef fat, yuk. The only main option was a burger, which I didn't want... I struggle to understand, with the amount of vegans and vegetarians there are, how, not just this chippy, but so many don't seem to do any vege pie or pastie option, at the very least! I am sure you could do a vege pie/quiche, cottage pie or vege nuggets in a wrap maybe... However, the young people working there, were apologetic and polite and at least did pount if that the curry sauce had animal fat in.

Had a haddock and chips. Cooked to order, the batter was thin and crispy (they had removed the skin as well) and the fish was plump and very tasty. The chips were also lovely. Friends shared a pensioner cod and chips which was a generous portion. I would drive miles for fish and chips this good.

We had a charity event in aid of GW Air Ambulance Charity. A fish and chips Quiz Night. Our experience with Fairbanks from start to finish was amazing. We ordered over 40 lots of fish and chips and the timing was crucial. Not only was the timing of the delivery spot on but the fish and chips were piping hot and delicious. We have of course had your fish snd chips before and have always enjoyed them so that is why we chose you for this very special fund raising event. Great gluten free fish options (every evening from 5pm!) and good portions with online ordering options (50p 'admin' charge) or just phone up. Clean and efficient, very impressive.

It's ok, not as good as it used to be. Large portion of chips was plenty for 3 people but several chips were green and the accompanying things (eg fishcake) were only lukewarm. Pretty expensive.

Cannot fault them. The haddock was excellent, lovely texture and taste inside a nice crisp batter. Chips were very good and the mushy peas were full of flavour. The lady who served us was friendly and professional and the food was soon ready. Nice portions and a decent price. Would be happy to return to this establishment next time we are in the area.

I've had decent fish and chips here before but my daughter fancied scamp the other night. For over £6 I got 12 miniscule pieces which were nasty, cheap and almost all batter. Don't bother, stick with the fish!

Second visit as we were in the area for an overnight stay. Lovely fish and chips. A light batter and good size portion. Yummy curry sauce. A quick service with friendly staff. Thanks again. Recommended. (regular cod and part of a large chips - between 3)

I keep coming back to this local... but I'm done now. I love a few streets down, ordered in the shop, and got home to luke warm chips yet again. I moved here two years ago and 1 out of 1 5 times the food had an issue or was wrong...now its every time and its easy to see why... It's nice that they recently promoted the delivery driver to the tills... less nice when he "jokes" about punching the kitchen staff... granted, they were behaving like utter juveniles, undercooked food and cooking food that didn't need to be served; but still. The last several times I've been in.. there is no professionalism at all... the staff behave like bafoons and the food is more miss than hit because of it. Hygiene is awful too. Today the kitchen staff (whilst cooking someones beans in microwave and serving cold chips and too many nuggets being cooked)...joked about how many nuggets it would take to feed the 5,000 (per the bible)... I found it hilarious considering they couldn't get 1 order right... Someone needs to take control again otherwise this place will be left behind

Just had a takeaway for the family from Fairbanks and the fish and chips tasted absolutely amazing, customer service was really welcoming and friendly and the food was very good value for money, While also being served quickly! will certainly be coming back again soon!

Always come here. Good value, decent portion sizes. Gets very busy on Fridays and Saturdays but worth the wait.

Went here last night and had the most delicious battered halloumi and chips. I bought a sausage for my dog and they added an extra one to which was so lovely! I think you mentioned that when we said and I didn't hear properly, so just wanted to say thank you :)

Veggie Burger is absolutely amazing! Best thing I’ve had from here. I get it weekly. Their chips are SO MUCH BETTER lately, idk what they changed but it is working! Fish is okay, it’s often pretty soft and I like my fish crispy but it tastes good. Maybe it has to do with being in the box. Curry sauce is fantastic and the onion rings are greasy but so delicious. The restaurant is always so clean, which I really appreciate. Staff is always friendly and quick.

Absolutely fantastic fish and chips. Always beautifully cooked. Tasty quality fish and batter. Gluten free batter and Poached fish are available but check for availability of this before making a journey. Fairbanks is take away only with no sit down facilities. Prices have gone up recently, but given the world we live in, this is to be expected.

Listed as open untill 10pm arrived at 9.40 to find the lights off all closed up . If you close at 9.30 update your website rather than waste peoples time and fuel

We have always been pleased with service and friendly staff. My wife is gluten free and too many times now their advertised Sunday and Monday gluten free days ends up not available. We travel from Yate and have even gone on the website to see if it’s available before. Once I ordered GF on line only to get a phone call on route to pick up to say they cannot do Gluten Free.

Always get good quality fish and chips from here. Would recommend.

I had such high hopes. I moved to Winterbourne a couple of months ago and I’ve been looking forward to trying this place because it has such good ratings. I was happy with the appearance of the shop and the friendliness of the staff and how clean everything seemed to be. I ordered a cheeseburger and some chips. To be fair I know chip shop cheeseburgers aren’t usually the best but this was really disappointing., for some reason every time I took a bite from the burger I could smell fish that sounds a little tedious and silly but it was really offputting. I don’t know if the bins are stored next to raw fish or something but it’s really a strong smell. I Couldn’t work out the smell was coming from the bum or the lettuce and actually the lettuce ended up being removed and that seemed to help a bit. On top of that the burger itself was really dry and tasteless and there was no cheese on this cheeseburger . I will definitely go again and I will get something more traditional like a big piece of fish but I definitely don’t recommend the burgers.

We haven’t been here for a month or so, but now and again it just has to be done. A fish and chip supper of this quality is always very welcome. Fairbanks IMHO is the premium ‘Chippy’ in our area and their product is well-worth the £18 paid for the two large haddock and one standard portion (a sufficiency) of chips. The chief frier knows how to cook fresh fish perfectly in thin light batter, the result is flawless: moist firm fish in a crisp, light and dry coating. The consistency of the fish and chips ensures our return.

I came in this Wednesday the 6th of April and the staff were lovely. After 5 minutes of ordering my burger was done, this was one of the best ,if not the best, burger I’ve ever had. This fish and chip shop is a 10/10

Very unprofessional. Seems to be run by children. No customer service at all. When ordered half the menu not available. Witnessed the girl on the front not having a care about the orders someone ordered a pea fritters she said. “ oh just put mushy peas in “. We didn’t order as nothing we wanted and to be honest the front of house staff very rude. Shame as used to be a great place

We waited 10 minutes to be served. Looked like the place was run by children. No welcome just chaos. The girl in the front shouting at everyone. Very rude and abrupt. When we got served was told no curry sauce ok that’s fine but no customer service at all. Very poor. Hence we left did not order

It has been 14 months since we last procured a takeaway from this renowned local ‘chippy’ and almost two years since we last enjoyed good fish and chips from here. After three consecutive poor fish and chip meals in the year ending 2020, we decided to stop going to this previously very fine chippy. Sadly, in the interim period since our boycott started, we had been unable to find an alternative local chippy that could measure-up to the quality of fish and chips, that we had regularly enjoyed from here, in the ten years ending December 2019. Our decision to give Fairbanks ‘another chance’ was prompted by independent recommendations from two friends who both live in the Winterbourne area. For us today it was a most welcome return to form for this chippy, the atmosphere was remarkably different from the three previous occasions. The staff seemed more focused and efficient, the meals were produced quickly and when we got them home the haddock was superb: obviously fresh and then perfectly cooked. The chips were fine, dry not fat-soaked and not mushy. So, it will be that we will visit again when the time for good fish and chips comes around.

Two staff at the front behaving unprofessional. Short changed my family member. And on a separate occasion found hair in melted cheese I’m addition to this, the wait time for takeaways is always 10x the time given. Fairbanks need to re evaluate many things

The young girls attitude was horrendous .. walked in and said hello to be starred at with no reply .. she then spent the rest of the time giving us evils while we waited for our food ... sooo rude !!
