Food was ok but took ages to come, staff was nice about it but overestimated the time it took and when the food did arrive it was disappointing as it wasn't quite as good as we thought ii was going to be and was quite pricey for the amount, it certainly wouldn't feed 3 adults!

We popped in for a coffee yesterday, to get out the wind. The place was not busy. No decaf available. So I asked for a hot chocolate instead. This cup came only 3/4full, and it was barely luke-warm. When I got to the bottom, half the powder had not been stirred in. My friend reported their coffee as only just passable. I know it's a restaurant, but isn't this fairly normal and straightforward request? Disappointing.

Sunday roast was inedible!! Veg option was a “pie” but had obviously been sat for hours under a heat lamp as it was literally burnt black inside and was completely dried up. Veg accompaniment was very lacking with one slice of carrot and a tablespoon of peas and one anaemic tinned roast potato. Other members in our party said their food was edible and that was all? The only saving grace was Katey It was polite, very apologetic and very friendly. I definitely would not recommend going there for Sunday lunch

Visited The Fleece for a Sunday roast in the evening, and while the staff were really friendly and helpful, the food was a letdown. The meat was chewy, the vegetables were lukewarm, and the pie was burnt on the inside, almost like it had been microwaved. It felt like the roast was cooked for lunch but then reheated for the evening service. A shame, as the service was great, but I wouldn’t return for food.

Not sure if it has changed hands but it is not value for money as the portions are small and the food is not the best pie was rock hard and the apple crumble was stewed apple with something sprinked over it? Very disappointed to previous visits and not worth the money. Servise was good but food wasn't.

Booked here because of the positive reviews. They must have been having an off night as the food, service and atmosphere were all disappointing. Especially peeved as my wife had mentioned on the booking that it was our anniversary, and yet we were stuffed away in the furthest corner of the eating area with no cutlery or menus until we asked for them. I had the steak and ale pie, mash, peas and gravy -- whilst tasty, the pastry was heavy and the filling had maybe four chunks of meat and a large piece of gristle. Mash was dry, peas were hard. My wife had the chicken schnitzel with skin-on chips; schnitzel was very thick and covered in very greasy, overcooked batter. She had the pâté to start that they omitted the chutney from and we had to chase them for it. I asked for a ruby ale or a bitter and was told they had none, only a local IPA. What pub doesn't even have bitter? The young lad serving us lacked confidence and at no point did he come back to check if we were happy with the food. When the mains turned up, I asked for a refill of beer. We had both long finished our mains before he returned with it. Safe to say we did not stick around for dessert. Gents toilets were swimming and there was toilet paper and empty glasses. Lock was broken on the cubicle. Very poor show and I feel two stars is generous.

Not even worthy one star to be frank. Went in as it stated was dog friendly, found a table got settled and then went to the bar… massive queue and only one lady serving, waited ages to be served. Once served the bar assistant said all food orders you will need to go upstairs! Which was fine, I stated to the lady that may I order some drinks first and she then went “let me serve this other gentleman first”. Who also was in the same predicament with ordering food and he said the same thing- may I order drinks and she carried on serving him and ignored me. Walked out. Found a gem pub up the road called the Edinburgh which served better food , more choices on menu , super friendly and no queues.

Disappointed. Been coming here many years, and it just keeps going downhill. This week, we had to wait over an hour for food. We were told this was due to only having one chef. However, they didn't tell us this when we ordered. We'd have gone elsewhere. Sadly the food wasn't great when it arrived.

Not sure this place knows what customer service is, unless you are sat at the bar or a local/friend. Even though we booked, we were given a table right in front of the busy bar and had to ask the other guests to leave our table so we could sit down. Were told multiple times that someone would visit our table to take an order. They never did. We ordered at the bar in the end. Our table was at 2pm, at 3pm we had to chase up our roasts. They said we were the next table but there was no apology. Thankfully the roast was good, albeit luke warm when it finally arrived. We had planned on having pudding but couldn't be bothered to wait. We left and will be unlikely to return unless the customer service improves.

We dropped in here with my outlaws primarily for late afternoon meal in first week of Jan, great location on quayside and my wife and I had been here before but summer and autumn time. The log burner was a welcome feel and sight as it was very cold outside and the interior is great inside contemporary. I drink craft beers and there was ample choice of draught ales and guest beers. Father in law had chicken something as was well happy with it and more than enough for him, his wife had fish and chips and was ok with them other than could have been hotter. The wife and I had steak pie which was average, the crust was extremely hard which disappointed. A young lad served us who was extremely polite and helpful. We shall go back....

Booked a table for 14:00 on the Sunday between Christmas and New Year. Arrived 15 mins early so grabbed a drink before taking our seats after the previous people had left. Ordered our food after 10 mins, all ok so far. Busy pub as it’s not very big, but the table was roomy enough. Sadly it took them till 15:00 to bring the food, then they said they could full fill the side order of onion rings, did I want an alternative, which I said no thanks. Three dishes should have onion rings as standard, but they were missing, we were not advised of this, so they became mash, peas and three very ordinary and cheap sausages. The other dishes were fine. When the bill came they knocked off the price of the 1/2 pint of lager, but still had the side dish of onion rings on it. Eventually they corrected that, but still no proper address of the three incomplete dishes (the cost of the drink wasn’t enough, but they wouldn’t change it). We paid and left, we won’t be returning either. The food situation is the main reason, but to have too few staff on and leaving those who were working in that position is not acceptable. Also another bug bear of mine is dogs being where you’re eating, I’m sorry but you’d not want them in the kitchen, so what’s the difference? I’m not talking about one or two dogs either, the place was like Battersea. Please don’t tell me to go where dogs aren’t as this is a pub that serves food for people, not dogs….get the priority right!

Unfortunately The Golden Fleece seemed to be incredibly understaffed on our visit, not just in front of house, but at the bar, and in the kitchen too. On an incredibly busy Sunday, there was only one waitress working front of house, one person behind the bar (and there was a constant queue for the couple of hours we were there), plus a very long wait for food. Once we were seated, we had to wait 10-15 minutes just for a drink order to be taken, and then another 15 minutes for our food order (we were ready to order when drinks were taken, but the waitress quickly rushed off). Food wasn’t served until an hour after we’d first sat down. Had they said ‘I’m terribly sorry, we’re very understaffed and food may be a bit longer than our usual time’, I would have understood, but there was no mention of this at all. Similarly, it seemed quicker to just go and stand in the queue to get drinks at the bar rather than wait for service. The food was fine, nothing special - the roast potatoes seemed re-heated as they were rock solid. The ‘Butternut Squash’ Wellington we had ordered I was very confused by, as there was no butternut squash in sight! It seemed to be chickpea, lentil and perhaps spinach? It tasted fine, but it was not what was advertised on the menu. I felt incredibly sorry for the one member of staff serving tables, as they were polite but obviously very rushed off their feet and didn’t completely seem like they wanted to be there. We decided to go elsewhere for dessert, as I suspect we’d of had to wait another hour for the order to be taken. Sadly very disappointed with our experience.

The weather outside was blowing a gale and there was not a human or car in sight, we expected the location to be empty, but to our suprise there was life inside. Greeted by friendly staff and with a VERY warm log burner on the go, we sat down to enjoy a wonderful meal. Highlights being the steak and ale pie and the crumble and custard. Also Katey, behind bar Tuesday was so friendly it made booking Thursday easy. Tonight we arrived for our booked meal. There were two things off the menu but otherwise all good. I had the festive pie which was venison and pancetta with garlic mash, veg and a side of cauliflower cheese. Craig had steak and ale pie off the main menu which was equally good. Food was hot, tasted great and to make it even better, the service by Katey and Chelsea was fantastic. 3 years ago I gave the Pub 4/5 * Today it deserves 1/5 * It has no Character. All members seem to be under age. A menu that is out of date/ season. Specials were both fish, one being a fish curry (fish curry already on the menu)and the other local muscles ...Too many fish dishes!!! And the most annoying thing is the reference of the greeting 'Guys'. We are man & woman. I don't have a tail between my legs. I am woman. What is wrong with the greeting of "folks" "Sir" "Madam By the way the fish & chips were awful as was the tartar sauce.. So today 1 December 2024 we returned to the Golden Fleece knowing that it has new owners and that a bit of work has been done on the upper floor, which was in most need off. We booked our table for 3pm. Arrived about 10 mins early. No problem. We waited and had a drink. About 5 mins after 3 I asked if our table was ready. Reply from the young lady was " yeah it's over there table 6" 🙄 We sat down and about 5 mins later our order was taken , which was Steak Ale pie with Chips & peas and a Roast Beef dinner with cauliflower cheese. The pub wasn't that busy. However a couple of tables who had sat down before us was told that there was a bit of a delay due to them being busy. 😲 No one told us that. At 3.50 pm I asked how much longer before we get our food. " Oh yes I'll find out " she says. Eventually we were told 10 mins. Half an hour later, our plates arrived. 🤮 Chips were over done as well as the pie. The Roast Beef with the soggy Yorkshire pudding was awful. It was suppose to have come with all the seasonal veg of leeks white cabbge carrots and peas. Well no leeks carrots or cabbage. I cut into the so called Roast potatoes and it oozes out a lot of grease/ oil/fat. The beef was lukewarm. The veg also that being the peas and pickled red cabbage. I also ordered a side dish of cauliflower cheese. That was disgusting. Under cooked to the fact it was raw and the cheese well that was so enemic to say the least. I told them that I wasnt acceping that plate and to take it off my bill. It all should have been spot on especially after waiting all that time. I asked for the bill. They wanted me to pay the full amount. No way.I said. " Why " they asked. Really. 1 We have waited for 1hr and 20 mins for our meal with no-one letting us know that here was a delay. 2 Lack of vegetables again they didn't inform us about that 3 The soggy Yorkshire pudding. 4 it was luke warm if that. . I am happy to say that they did deduct the 2 meals from our bill. Unfortunately it doesn't want us to go back very soon. We have been visiting the Golden Fleece for many years as there has always a good vibe there pre covid. Unfortunately it's not the same anymore.

We stay in Wells every few months & have been here many times before - mainly because of how dog friendly it is. However today was the worst service we have ever had, which we’re hoping is a one off! We waited 45 mins to order food & had to call a waiter over to take our order. We asked him to read our order back , we had missed off one item, which we corrected him on. When our food eventually arrived, every single meal had something missing/wrong on it. One meal was even missing completely & didn’t arrive until we had pretty much finished the others. Sides were missing & sauces missing off other sides. Drinks took ages & they told us they couldn’t make certain drinks, despite them handing us those drinks as he was explaining that it couldn’t be made! w We then had to clarify what drinks we had & stuck to tap water after because they couldn’t cope with any other drink. The manager was around & kept making up excuses, but never actually apologising. Upon receiving the bill, it turns out they were trying to overcharge us, so we discussed these with the manager to get them taken off. Really disappointed & it’s completely tainted a pub that we normally were quite pleased with. Although the service was appalling, the food we did receive was delicious. A simple apology, or offer to take a side/dessert off our bill would have avoided our disappointment. Such a shame

Kind of like two fish fingers in a v-shape. It was weird and very very small. I should have just taken it back really. The girl who collected the plate about 3 minutes later asked how it was and when I told her she just nodded, as if in agreement. When I mentioned it to the girl behind the bar when I paid the bill she just pulled a face. I'm literally eating toast back at my digs as I write this 20 minutes later!

Have been before, 2 years ago, and it was good... but not this time! The food was ok but the service was abysmal! !! The young lady serving did not have a clue and didn't listen to the order... she was quite rude and clearly stressed! After a long wait more than we'd ordered, and not even what we ordered, arrived- I explained and the extra was taken away. But then the bill arrived and they tried to overcharge us by about £50!!! Pay attention to your bill. The food was ok but the whole meal was an unpleasant experience and a catalogue of errors. The staff were generally quite rude! Eventually the senior bar lady sorted it all out. The table next to us were listening to the whole thing and had had a similar experience... they won't be going again nor will we!

Chelsea was great serving us in our private function room upstairs for my partners 30th! She ran around making sure all of us got what we needed, catered to my dietary needs (gluten free - lots of options). Thank you so much!!!

A large party of 17 was looked after extremely well by Chelsea. We had 4 children (5 and under), 4 dogs and dietary restrictions (gluten free, lactose and vegetarians). We pre-booked and had a whole room to ourselves upstairs. The food was delicious and everything was served hot and together. Amazing service, thank you!

The pub itself is very warm and cosy, situated in the most perfect spot overlooking the harbour. However the food was average and we had very slow service, which made the experience a let down. This pub/restaurant is missing a trick, great location, but doesn’t serve fresh sea food.

ONLY HAD EASTER SUNDAY LUNCH. DID NOT STAY Very traditional English pub aesthetics, complete with fields nearby and beer garden I had the lamb Sunday lunch. A strong rich Gracey smothered the perfectly pink meat. Lovely homemade Yorkshire puddings. I thought the roasties could have been a tad less crunchy ( a bit sore on the teeth), and I could have done with a few more. Nice steamed vegetables were served to accompany (not pictured) The brownie desert was very dry, and tasted more like a cake than a brownie. Not enough ice cream to counterbalance. All things that are easily fixed.
