Had high expectations but was underwhelmed. Staff were great and accommodating but let down by very, very slow kitchen. Waited 1 1/2 hours for our mains. Beef for three of us was cold. Cauliflower cheese was watery and raw, roast potatoes were soft. Outdoor tented seating was ok but not advised in cold weather. Price was ridiculously high, £250 for 6 people with only soft drinks few beers and no desert. Overall poor value for money and advise trying elsewhere.

I’ve always loved the GOS however last night our food was not great. All the chips that arrived at the table were soggy with zero crunch. Food wasn’t seasoned and it was basically meh..Pudding was decent. On the flip side the service was good. On a personal level the menu used to be interesting and a draw to the pub now it resembles very generic fayre.

A great neighbourhood pub that does good food, has a large garden and friendly staff. Welcoming to families and adults. Lovely for a meal or to pop into for a drink. My latest visit was to meet a fellow school governor to discuss the year ahead. It was mid afternoon and we both had a soft drink chatted at a table indoors. No problem at all! Excellent 🤩 Previously I’ve been there with a big group of work colleagues to celebrate together and in a small group of friends to have dinner together. Each time it works! Perfect

Just celebrated my birthday at the Old Spot in the marquee out in the garden and it was fantastic. It's a low deposit, they offer two buffet food menus - we chose the pizza, chips and salad one and it was all delicious and freshly made. We had liberty to decorate as needed, the staff were helpful with rearranging any furniture and in the lead up equally helpful in answering lots of questions via email. Can highly recommend not only for an event but even as a lovely place to go for regular drinks or food.

We took our granddaughter, a student at Bristol University for a meal and were hugely disappointed in the meal and the service. The pub was not busy (6.45) and after half an hour of ordering my husband went up to the bar to ask the 3 chatting bar staff where our food was. Suspiciously our food order appeared within a minute. It wasn’t hot and the chips were awful which made us think that the meals had been sitting for a while. We will not be returning to The Gloucester Old Spot nor recommending it.

Sunday lunch roast was OK (although the roast potatoes were soggy, not roast) but frankly it was way overpriced for what it was. £25 for a few bits of roast meat with veg, and generic brown gravy to "suit" all the meats from beef, to pork to chicken, that was definitely made from a packet.

Menus arrived quickly but drinks orders took far too long and 2 of 3 drinks appeared 5 and 15 mins after the 1st one. I was looking forward to a fish special but they had sold out when we got there at 3. Is there any chance tge kitchen could keep specials fir people who are booked in ??? After that, roast dinners were good with great veg and an excellent cauliflower cheese but one of our meals was cold and had to be changed Sticky toffee pudding was great though. Overall very enjoyable after the restaurant got quite. Service was friendly but had a number of errors wi t h wrong drinks and wrong meals and puds sent to us. That said, I will go again for sure. This place has gone seriously downhill over the last few years. Roast was average, but the "cauliflower cheese" was just undercooked cauliflower with cheese sprinkled on top, no creamy sauce, bizarre. And for some unholy reason they put allspice in their sticky toffee pudding, and a lot of it. I was told that sticky toffee pudding has spices in it, which is objectively false, I've had it many many times and not once has it had any kind of spice in it. Go to the Kenny instead, at least the chefs over there actually care about making each part of each dish amazing.

Sad to be leaving this review because I used to love this pub. Came here for a roast today and had to send it back because it was stone cold, they then brought it back out dry and still cold. The veg was literally raw and the stuffing (which you had to pay extra for) was a crumbly salty mess! I never complain but we let the staff know and they gave us a tiny discount off the £20 roast. So disappointed, wasted money and have lost a loyal customer

Disappointing. We went for dinner on a Friday night, they didn’t even have everything available on the standard menu (pork belly) and the selection isn’t great once that’s not available unless you want a burger or pizza…..which we didn’t. I chose sausage and mash…..sausages were nice, but the gravy was literally just brown water and actually made me feel a bit sick eating it, so I just had the sausages and was left hungry. The ‘chef’ clearly didn’t taste the so called gravy before sending it out. The watery gravy spoilt the whole meal, it made the mash tasteless and watery, the veg watery. Absolutely rubbish, I could do so much better myself and I’m no chef. My husband’s steak was ok, but a few chewy bits. Comes with extremely basic sides, no skill involved. Also the staff just disappear. We waited too long to be asked about dessert. Then once it was served…..£4 for two tiny scoops of cheap icecream we never saw them again. We found them all sat around the bar chatting. They could not have cared less if they tried. Will never return and definitely won’t recommend.

We have eaten here a few times before and enjoyed it but we went on Sunday and had a pretty poor experience so don’t think we will be back. Booked a table online and selected ‘ garden booth’ option due to lovely forecast , but when we arrived they had our booking but didn’t know that we had booked a specific type of table. They did offer us a small table in garden but it wasn’t practical with our toddler and nowhere to park the buggy ( even though I booked a table for 4 so we had space) so we sat inside. I think the main problem was that it was just so so busy - it’s lovely to see local pubs busy and doing well but it felt a bit out of control. It was towards the end of service and the staff were nice and trying their best but we waited ages for drinks ( staff said there was a backlog at the bar) , there was quite a lot of confusion about what dishes were available and which had run out , and the food when it came was luke warm and very average. Such a shame because they are obviously trying hard but think standards maybe slipped due to it being super busy!

My visit to the Gloucester Old Spot pub for a Sunday roast was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that set the tone for a delightful meal. The roast dinner itself was a masterpiece. The meat was tender and succulent, and the selection of vegetables accompanying it were not only flavorsome but also cooked to perfection. The real star of the meal, though, was the broccoli and cauliflower cheese – it was a taste sensation that I won't soon forget. The perfect combination of creamy cheese and perfectly cooked vegetables made it an absolute standout. And then there was dessert. The dark chocolate and biscoff brownie was a revelation. Rich, indulgent, and expertly crafted, it easily ranks as one of the best desserts I've had all year. Every bite was a symphony of flavors that left me craving for more. I must commend the staff, particularly Ellie, who was our waitress. She was an absolute credit to the team, providing friendly and attentive service that made our dining experience truly special. Amy also contributed to the wonderful atmosphere and ensured that every aspect of our meal was perfect. The overall ambience of the Gloucester Old Spot pub was delightful. The cozy and inviting surroundings added an extra layer of enjoyment to our meal. It's the kind of place where you can relax, savor your food, and have great conversations with friends or family. In summary, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to this establishment for their Sunday roast, and I'm already looking forward to returning to sample more of the culinary delights on their menu. This dining experience was nothing short of exceptional, and I can't speak highly enough about it. It's a gem that deserves to be discovered and savored by all food enthusiasts. 🍽️🌟

Despite having booked a table for 7 the previous week, when we arrived the staff were shocked and ran around organising a table in cramped space. The meal was 90 minutes later than ordered. Completely unacceptable. We had to give a member of the bar staff a little nudge and she panicked and went to chase the chef. It seemed alarmingly that we had been forgotten about. Now this is my local pub and previously we’ve had good service however I wouldn’t recommend groups of this volume for anyone. Offered nothing in terms of an apology or money off for waiting 90 minutes. Lovely Sunday Roast but never again. If you’re thinking of taking your family and have already booked The Old Spot please cancel your booking and re book with one of the other nice ubs around Golden Hill such as The Wellington, Royal Oak or Bee Hive. We went for a Sunday roast and it was absolutely lovely - food is really well done, pub has lots of space inside and in the terrace, we had 3 kids with us and were comfortable. Definitely coming back soon.

Absolutely incredible. Extremely friendly staff, great atmosphere. The food portions had so much I couldn’t eat it all, A big special thank you to Sav & Amy for proving great, friendly service.

Food is disgraceful. We had a beef burger and a chicken burger. Beef burger was obviously frozen and horrendously overcooked, The chicken burger was blended chicken (like mince) then fried, rank. £16-17 each... Couldn't finish either and generally shocked at the cheek of serving it. Won't be back. Don't bother.

We were in Bristol due to a convention as we were staying at futures inn, we went to find a breakfast cafe near by in the morning and stumbled onto this place. Was a very friendly environment and the staff were very good, the poached eggs were cooked to perfection and runny, the latte was creamy and delicious and my mum had English tea and was also lovely did not disappoint would 100% visit again if I’m come to Bristol again.

Llevó a mi hija mayor a una clínica en Henleaze y tenía una hora para matar esperándola. Café 96 estaba a 50 metros, así que entró.

I feel very strongly about writing positive reviews in a world where everyone likes to complain. My husband and I visited today at lunch time for my 40th birthday. It was perfect, our waiter Josh/Joshua was so lovely. Prompt with clearing away dishes and taking orders but not so that we felt rushed in any way. He was chatty to make us feel welcome but not so much that that it was overbearing. The food was incredible and very filling, fresh delicious tasty food at a good price point. Great for a vegetarians where normally there would only be a few options. The interior and atmosphere was lovely on a Monday lunchtime, music in the back ground but not too loud. Everything about it was perfect and we've already told so many others about it and will definitely be coming back in the evening when I'm sure it looks beautiful. Sorry we are so fast because the food was so good we didn't take photos.
