Stayed in a different room this time. Room 3 is just as good as 4 and 5 that I’ve stayed in before. The mattress is so comfortable. Large ensuite. View of the Hight Street. Spacious room. Had dinner - delicious as ever. I tried a very good NZ Pink Sauvignon Blanc. The real stalwart though is the breakfast - local produce, cooked to perfection. It really sets you up for the day.

I travelled to Wedmore to attend a Festival and stayed in The George Inn for two nights. On arrival I was met at Reception by Ben who gave me a warm welcome, showed to my Room and explained everything I needed to know during my stay. My room was excellent with the necessary equipment and facilities all of a very good standard. I had breakfast and lunch during my stay and the food was excellent. Thanks to Ben again for looking after things during my stay, impressive.

A warm welcome by friendly staff and excellent service. We only wanted something small so I selected field mushrooms on toast (GF option). They were delicious. Rich and yummy. Hubby had calamari rings which he enjoyed and were sufficient. Both meals @ £8.50 each and good value.

We had an excellent overnight stay at The George Inn near Cheddar. The service was outstanding, with special mention to Dan, the assistant manager, who was exceptional from check-in to check-out. Dinner was delightful, with generous portions; the curry sauce with scampi or fish and chips is highly recommended. The bed was comfortable, offering a lovely view, and the room was clean and tidy. Overall, a wonderful experience.

Initially went in for Sunday lunch, which was delicious. Great portions, beautifully cooked and presented and represented great value for money. Situated in the quaint village of Wedmore The George is a great venue. We enjoyed so it much we re-visited for mid week lunch. An interesting menu and again food, presentation, quality, service was superb. A special mention must go to Dan, the Assistant Manager who was on duty on both occasions who provided a very warm welcome, was engaging with a great sense of humour, knowledgeable, highly efficient and motivated. What an asset not just to The George but the catering profession. It was an absolute joy to see him at work as he took so much pleasure in everything he did.

Absolutely great service!! Greeted with a smile and the most chatty and friendly of welcomes! Sat outside at the front, on the picnic benches in glorious sunshine, witnessing life going on in Wedmore and also the best view of the village church. The inside of The George Inn pub was most characterful. Food was top notch! Highly recommend the baked Camembert sharing starter and a portion of cheesy chips! We could not have been treated better during our short visit on this mid-June afternoon.

We popped in for some fish & chips, they were able to accommodate us without a booking and the food was delicious. However, the waiting staff were over-attentive and service almost too quick, but the only real problem (and why I’ve written this review) is that we were rudely asked for a tip by one of the waitresses! Which actually resulted in us not giving one and has put us off coming back.

My first overnighter of the year. Dinner was delicious - they use seriously good ingredients, all locally sourced I believe. Room was very comfortable. Breakfast was super. Our stay coincided with the Young Farmers’ Show (pigs, sheep with lambs and calves). Had a bacon and sausage bap from the BBQ. It was so good that I went back for another one. Love this place.

We had a celebratory Sunday lunch for a friend’s birthday. The food was phenomenal. The roast beef was cooked to perfection . The mussels were excellent as was the fish and chips, prawn starters, garlic mushroom starters and deserts. I don’t often eat roast dinners out but this is the best I have ever had by a country mile. Lovely range of vegetables and sides besides alternatives for those that didn’t want a roast. Booking in advance is advisable if you don’t want to be disappointed by not getting a table although walk ins are also made very welcome. Originally a pub but now more of an up-market bistro. A big menu and excellent food - we enjoyed a mushroom risotto, Pastrami New York sandwich and superb French-style chips, together with draught Peroni. Excellent friendly service. Our only reservation is that the original pub appears to have been been ruthlessly swept away - to the extent that there isn’t even a bar any more - in favour of a slightly antiseptic feel. Still, recommended. The bill came to £44.90 for two.

We decided to revisit The George in Wedmore for dinner after a long break due to past poor experiences. The food was good and reasonably priced. The (young and virtually untrained) staff tried their best. The general atmosphere was only partly welcoming - flowers and candles on the tables, due to the large open fire, remaining unlit on a wet, cold February night .Interestingly in a neighbouring room, we discovered that the diners had lit the fire for themselves!! All was going ok until we asked for a bottle of white wine which arrived warm. A big ice bucket full of ice and water was provided which when we poured the wine then proceeded to drip water everywhere. The next problem was they had run out of wine glasses......and offered us champagne flutes which we declined! It then took the waiting staff ten minutes to beg some wine glasses from the neighbouring Indian restaurant. If there had been a wedding reception for 100 people taking place at the George I perhaps could have understood this but no, it was just a moderately busy Saturday night. Neighbouring tables who were drinking wine by the glass had to finish there glasses so that they could be then refilled. Then there was the fact that 3 out of the four tables in our room did not have salt and pepper provided and each table without them when their meals arrived had to request them. Also the menus did not tell you what was provided with the dishes eg did the lamb burger come with salad and chips? The young staff were willing but the odds were stacked against them. All of these things would be easily resolved with staff training, better written menus and purchasing some glasses and then our experience would have been so much better. Instead I'm afraid we won't be rushing back and when friends asked 'how it was?' I'm afraid we could only recommend the food! and not the experience

Re-visited The George upon change of ownership; things are on the up. A pleasant evening, with good food, reasonably priced, with traditional pub favourites mixed in with a few more adventurous offerings. In need of a 'landlord' although the young staff are willing and enthusiastic. A decent selection of beer and LARGER (their spelling) Some investment needed in the decor - especially the lighting. My wife and I stayed in Bedroom 4. It looked great when we first arrived and the bed was comfortable and the facilities were fine. Unfortunately the bells of the nearby church clock (less than a hundred yards away) rang every quarter hour and continued throughout the night. I had the most appalling night's sleep as a consequence. Surely the church wardens can be approached to arrange for the bells to be silenced overnight (perhaps from midnight until 5 am). Alternatively some form of secondary glazing to the windows might improve the situation.Rooms 4 & 5 are linked by a door (lockable from both sides) presumably intended to enable the rooms to be used as a family suite).Unfortunately however, the doors are of light-weight construction and forced us, on the second night, to listen to an interminable and boring conversation between a young couple and to hear their various activities through the night.. A heavy duty door or the blocking-up of the doorway completely would avoid this embarrasing and sleep-defying situation. The pub would be great if these two problems could be addressed - if not do NOT on any account accept accommodation in rooms 4 or 5

Last time I eat here it was most enjoyable and on this occasion sitting in the garden under late summer sunshine was a delight. We opted for the roast beef as it looked like a good Sunday lunch choice - but while the meat itself was good quality and properly cooked, the vegetable accompaniments were very poor especially the roast potatoes and parsnips. We stayed here for 1 night en-route to the west country. This is not a hotel. Its a pub with rooms. Money needs to be spent here. The stair carpet leading to the accommodation was worn out and I suspect would not pass a health and safety inspection. Our room looked shabby with chipped paintwork and mould around the window frames. The bathroom had a bath and hand held shower...memo to management...a competent plumber could knock a nail in the wall to hold the shower head to enable you to have a hands free shower. You need the earplugs because the church bells chime every quarter hour right through the night. Not the managements fault but it would have been nice to have been told on booking so we could have chosen to stay elsewhere

We visit the George whenever we can’t face going to the hopelessly pretentious and overpriced Swan just down the road. Today was a spur of the moment Monday lunchtime visit, and unsurprisingly the dining room was well-nigh empty. The food took a long time to come out for some reason and we expected the worst, but our patience was hugely rewarded. New chefs have made a vast difference - my Merguez sausages on a potato galette were spicy and delicious and my companoin’s Chicken Caesar salad was generous and very well prepared. I hope the word spreads and this great pub gets properly busy as it deserves - if the charming young staff can get service speeded up a little then the George will be recognised as the far better venue for food.

I arrived at the George around eight and it was very busy so l sat out side in the court yard around nine the thunderstorm hit so l went in side out of the rain ,wow what a great atmosphere the staff were great really friendly and helpful the menu was really good with lots of choices they change the menu every month so will go back soon. I had the beer battered fish and chips which l would definitely recommend "the portion size was huge and l needed a doggie bag ,this is a great place for both a drink or a meal.

Visited today with the family hoping to have lunch and drinks, we bought a overpriced round and went into the garden so our children could enjoy playing in the play area, the entire area was covered in dog poo...what I can only assume was left by the landlords dog that could wander around on its own, how this pub can serve food in a garden with so much dog waste is beyond me! We left and went to the swan which was much more enjoyable and dog pop free despite 6 dogs in the garden.

I bought 2 drinks, a coffee with a shot of disaronno & a double gin and tonic. For £18 was pretty disgusted, even after querying the price I was met with lies. Not only were they throughly rinising me, but lying about it all too, In front of customers. Not sure how they get away with it. Most unfriendliest place ever. £18 for 2 drinks ???

Such rude staff, waiting to be served and ignored twice for men who walked up and were served straightaway !! The dark haired youngish girl then tries to charge me for someone else’s drink as well as my own which was overly priced anyway!! I will not be going back there ever

As the one star says, this is a terrible place. Expensive, warm beer, scruffy pub masquerading as a "go to" place. Just go elsewhere, its the better option.

One of our favourite places to eat is located in the village of Wedmore, The Swan. So we went to the other major place in the village The George not expected a great deal, or at least on the same level as The Swan. Which to be honest it is not, however, we were surprised at the quality of the food. Certainly not what we were expected. The interior is very homey but also in the bar area quite rural as well can you can easily imagine farmers heading in for a pint after a days hard graft. There was only a six other people eating and drinking on this particular Thursday night, I imagine that it doesn’t get booked up that regularly so the atmosphere was lacking. However, the food was excellent. Every dish was perfectly cooked and presented with my duck and dauphinoise potatoes complimenting each other exquisitely along with the plums, the chicken as went down without noise also. The menu gives lots of choice and changes with the availability of local produce which shows everything is cooked to order. Overall, The George is well worth a visit, there a better places yes, however very good food at a decent price is always a winner!

We have visited Wedmore over the last 2-3 months whilst house hunting & visited this pub on a number of occasions. It really isn’t worth coming back as the bar staff seem preoccupied in avoiding the customers, and when they do serve you, the beer isn’t anything to write home about, and 30-40p per pint more expensive than the other pubs in the village. The food is mediocre at best, and we found the Indian restaurant in the pub yard- apparently unconnected to the George inn - much better and far more friendly than the George.

Came for food with friends on a Saturday night. Had a lovely friendly welcome when we walked into the lower bar but went downhill. Was shown to our table and left to order. I ordered the salmon tian to start and fish and chips for main. My starter was ok, the fish and chips was not nice, soggy batter and under cooked chips.

Service slow and non engaging. Food quality below pricing and staggered in delivery. No apologies, apathetic customer interaction. Pretty much sums it up.

I’ve eaten a few times at the George and whilst the food can be ok, it lets itself down by lack of attention to service availability ( where’s the waitress? ) and an absence of “front of house” care in general. The prices bely all this. A bit of a lottery.

Great traditional pub with lovely log fires and very friendly atmosphere. Wide choice of beers and wines. Fantastic restaurant food and good place to catch up with old friends or meet new ones. Amazing Steak and the Lamb is highly recommended. Lovely period features with coaching courtyard as well as great play area for the kids. Highly recommended.

Ordered delivery of meal for first time. Arrived quickly was piping hot, portions were amazing and delicious and not overpriced. We look forward to having more delicious fish suppers in the future a special treat for us as we are not able to get out and about. Thank you very much.

Very busy café, but incredibly efficient team handling orders so no wait at all really! I had a chicken Sunday roast with extra gravy, they forgot my Yorkshire pudding and I didn't realise that I didn't have one until an hour later lol, oh dear, it's an age thing ha ha! Roast potatoes obviously deep fried, they were rather bland looking and tasting tbh, so oven roasts would have been much nicer as these weren't the best. £11.95 plus a coffee on top, so circa £15 in total. Dinner was nice enough, and the portions are generous also. I would return for the same, but with the Yorkie next time lol, as the service was excellent, very friendly indeed. Sort the roasties out and you're onto a winner! (P.S. I would recommend this place, the deserts looked absolutely gorgeous!)

Awful ! Overpriced ... poor service ! No meals except pastries .... a sausage roll was £6.95 ! I know it's a National Trust and we are members I agree they do a great deal of good. However, with such a prime seaside spot .... loads of families on the beach ...they should offer normal seaside food and priced! We had a coffee and a slice of cake and it came to £20 for 2 of us. Families are struggling at the moment. I can't understand why they don't offer traditional seaside food like a bag of chips, ice creams, lollies, milk shakes etc. They have a prime spot with a captive audience as its the only cafe at Brean down. Felt very dissapointed it could be so much improved !.... prices are Ridiculous !!!!! Service is bad you order then go to another partcto collect , no please or thank you ! I think they love dogs more than people !
