Ordered delivery of meal for first time. Arrived quickly was piping hot, portions were amazing and delicious and not overpriced. We look forward to having more delicious fish suppers in the future a special treat for us as we are not able to get out and about. Thank you very much.

The food was awful, the chips were dry and over cooked and had a odd taint to them, the fish was cremated and also had the same taint, and the battered sausages also had a weird taste. The whole meal was just ewww and i wont use again.

After my last review, decided to give them another chance - wish I hadn’t bothered, still as bad. Overcooked chips (tasted like they had been reheated), fish was definitely overcooked with batter that was burnt and the fish all dried out. Will never be ordering from there again, shame really as they’re the only fish and chip shop locally - maybe they need a bit of competition.

Always been happy with the quality from this shop but today’s and our previous order were way below their normal standard which is why I’m writing this as we thought the last time might have been a one-off. Both this and the previous occasion, the chips tasted stale and very hard, as if they’d been retested from previous day (I know that’s not the case but it’s how they tasted). The cod was very overcooked, which dried out the fish and the batter wasn’t crunchy, it was very hard. We also asked for medium cod and chips but the amount of chips (perhaps mercifully on this occasion) were far less than we’ve had before. Considering how much such a basic meal has gone up in price, I really do feel this time was well below par.

Haven,t been here for a while.The fish and chips were lovely.The two young ladies who served me were top class.

Called in on our way back from a lovely walk on the canal this evening,we didn't fancy the Maunsel lock tea room as we wanted something more substantial we were starving. The food was freshly cooked good size portions and delicious. The young lady who took my order was very polite as were the young man and other lady. Thankyou 😋😋😋

Me and my son passed via North Petherton Wednesday 17th July ,just as shop been opened. We popped for chips and fish. Food was lovely, freshly made, scrumptious 😋 Lady happily drizzled my son chips with mayo. We were amazed 👏 Bravo bravo bravo to chips and fish in North Petherton 👏

Oh dear this place has gone down hill massively. Tasted like they served lunchtime chips in the evening that had been warmed up. Fish was gross, for the price, shocking. How can a fish and chip shop get fish and chips so wrong. Put it in the bin total waste of money. Will never be going back there again.

Not impressed. Chips look and taste like yesterday's warmed back up. And the bread roll must have been frozen and zapped, cause it was all soggy. Give it a miss.

Visited for the first time to see the carnival with the wife that has been a fair few times alongwith Visitingthe chip shop. I was absolutely disappointed with the chips and cheese all I could taste was dirty oil. Maybe it's time to give up the shop after 30 years you obviously can't run a chip shop now. Times have changed you've got too old or you just haven't trained your staff properly. Quit or up your game.

Disappointed is an understatement, I have gone to this place for years and I am disappointed it has gone downhill, its clear that things are being allowed to slip ie oil with taste of chips being over powered by dirty old oil , I'm sorry to say that I will not return again after that disappointment

Quick service. Poor food. We ordered a couple of cod and chips and sausage and chips, looked good but unfortunately it tasted blatantly obvious that they have not changed the chip fat in a while and it tasted like it had gone off. Very sad. But could be easily fixed by changing the fat.

Just ordered a Saturday night treat and felt like ringing up just to say how good it was! Proper chip shop curry sauce, perfectly crispy non greasy pea fritter and two well sized portions of tasty chips. Glad it’s our new local and will be going again! Cheers guys! Ended up with two pieces of cod (only wanted one) as order taken incorrectly. As it wasn’t confirmed back, didn’t realise until unpacking at home. The batter on the fish had a bitter taste to it, as did some of the chips. Staff were friendly and polite but the food was disappointing.

This is by far the best chip shop in the area. I live in Bridgwater and travel out most weeks. The Fried Chicken bits are amazing. Chips always freshly cooked and my partner loves the Chicken Pies. Highly recommend.

Travel from Bridgwater to specifically go to this chip shop! The staff are super friendly and the food is so good. Especially like their curry sauce! 😝 Very reasonably priced too. Would highly recommend if you’re passing through North Petherton!

Disgusting isn’t even a word for it. We had fish and chips and a burger and chips. The old couple was nice but when we came home to open our dinner there was a hair in the curry sauce, chips had been cooked about ten times and all you could taste was nasty bitter oil. Fish was soggy and tiny. Never again. Shame as we have only moved into the area recently!

Absolutely disgusting, ok you were half an hour from closing, the gravy wasn’t “chip shop gravy” if you call that large fish and chips, I’d hate to see the small, same container as a single portion of chips, the pies tasted like they’ve been there all day, chips were the same, shame as you’re so close and in a small village, where word travels, chucked most of it away, what a waste of £31, never again, stay away people

Simply wanted 2 portions of chips and 1 curry sauce. Waited for more than 20 minutes, was dished up half chips then had to wait for more to cook- so cant portion properly . Pricing outrageous- portion sizes different in the two trays, medium was £3, large curry sauce was £2 consistency of thick glupe . Didnt taste fresh even though had to wait and was supposedly fresh with a funny after taste- we had to dutch them goodbye £8, lesson learned wont return, did use to be good chippy.

Fantastic food ! I drive from the other side of Bridgy to go here. Plus its reasonably priced. I would highly recommend.

Don’t have the fish, everything else was good, nice curry sauce too but the fish was just bad, mushy food service stuff warmed up then fried.

Walked in at 8-30 pm to find the two "staff" gossiping with a customer. After 10 mins one announces "We don't serve after 8-30"!! Disgusting attitude. I won't be going back. 😳

Noticed the queue outside the shop on Saturday evening. Pulled up and ordered, really friendly inside. Lovely food, chips really good just like good chips should be, great with the curry sauce. Glad we stopped, will definitely use again 👍

Popped in to grab something for our tea (we're northern so it's tea not "dinner" 😁) and can't fault the shop, friendly staff/owner and lovely chips with crispy, tasty batter on the sausage. If we're in this area again it'll be a stop to make. (no pics it didn't stay still long enough)

Spent over £50 last night for over cooked dry scampi, the strangest dark soggy greasy chips, which looked like they were boiled in Worcester sauce, dry tasteless fish with batter sliding off, apparently the battered sausage and chicken and mushroom pie were OK... I have no idea how this place received such good reviews 😳

Disappointed this time. Saw all lights on and door open at 8.27pm to be greeted with "I've only got what's left, we're closed". I asked if the Spring Roll was vegetarian or if it had prawns in and was assured vegetables only, so I purchased regular chips, small sausage and the Spring Roll. Surprised at cost of £7.00, but apparently the Spring Roll was £3.50. Chips were great - 5*. Sausage good but the Spring Roll had obviously been sitting there for a very long time as it was extremely tough on the outside and complete mush on the inside. Last time all the food was great and the service delightful, and this was also very close to closing time.

Lived here over 4 years - never ventured down the road for chips - dismal ‘summer day’ today - decide to try the online delivery service - thank you so much / super quick delivery and great fish and chips 👍

We tried the Fish Bar for the first time last evening. The good points: The people behind the counter were all very cordial. Although super busy, they were still pleasant. The chips are given in an enormous quantity. If you're after a massive meal of chips, this is the place. Now, the not so good news. The fish wasn't nice. The batter was soggy, not at all crispy, and we only live a mile from the shop. It was flat and tasted like it was steamed instead of fried. My husband, a Londoner, gave the chips a big thumbs-up as he said they were very similar to what he used to get as a lad. But he agreed with me about the fish. Will we try it again? Maybe...but not on a night when there's a line outside. We want to give the fish another try to see if it's crispy the next time before completely writing it off.

What a disgusting looking meal, no standards whatsoever!! After reading so many positive reviews online plus looking at people's photos of their tasty looking meals, I decided to visit for some fish & chips tonight as I was visiting the area for a couple of days and staying locally. I arrived this evening and several customers were already waiting outside for their meals to be freshly cooked, I walked in and waited for somebody to serve me, a lady appeared so i ordered haddock and chips, she told me that they had no haddock only cod which I said would be ok, then in less than one minute a meal was put on the counter and the lady looked at me and said cod and chips, I was in shock as I thought my meal would be freshly cooked like the other people that were standing there, the bag was as light as a feather yet I ordered medium chips!! I got back in the car and the bag felt stone cold, so I got a little way up the road and pulled over to eat my meal, I opened the box and all I can say is oh my god, the smell was of pure dirty grease, the fish was so super thin that when I lifted it off the chips it just fell apart as it just resembled rubber or jelly, it also filled the car up with the aroma of canned tuna an absolutely revolting smell mixed with disgusting dirty oil stench, the chips, well all I can say about those except to say that they were a disgrace to the name chips, a mix of rock hard scalpings with a few chips that looked fried, refried then refried again, totally inedible and if I'd of took one bite of any of it I would of been as sick as a dog for the rest of my trip, as I have a sensitive stomach and have standards of what I put in it, a total waste of money and I would recommend that you avoid this establishment like the plague for your own wellbeing!!

Passing through on my way home to Cornwall. Scampi and chips. Freshly cooked, lovely crisp and light scampi and the best chips I've had in a long while. Will definitely pass by to call in again.

Not that good got food poisoning

Having spent most of my childhood going into "Pevvy" chip shop, it never fails us, great food at a really good price. Always would highly recommend to anyone in the village or people passing through.

Disappointed! Stopped off here whilst passing through, ordered battered sausage and chips. The sausage was nice, with lovely brown batter, but the chips were horrible, tough and tasted like old oil. Very disappointing!

I wasn't sure if they would deliver to the next town being in lock down but they did the meal was excellent and enjoyable, i would order from them in near future.

When we moved to North Petherton a couple of years ago our first experience of North Petherton chippy wasn't great so it was a while before we returned. When we did they had clearly upped their game as the chips were lovely. We are now regulars and they consistently serve tasty fish n chips at a fair price. They have also stayed open throughout lockdown which has been a lifesaver and a real treat during a difficult time. Friendly staff and even a lockdown delivery service now even though we don't use it as we only live round the corner. Keep up the great work!

EXCELLENT fish and chips. I have lived in the area 33 years now and have visited many times over the years and have always found the food excellent. The staff have always been friendly and efficient. I don't really understand why people have written otherwise - I wonder at the negatived reviews whether they are all genuine? I would think that if there was a problem over the quality of the food or service, I would have come across it by now - Maybe these people just "got out of bed the wrong side that day" and were feeling grumpy! P.S. The premises are always very clean.

We thought we would give this place a try but never again. The chips were soggy and tasted of rancid oil, the fish was awful with soggy batter and overcooked. The staff were friendly but that’s about it I’m afraid.......

Rude staff. Felt like if you weren't local them your get ignored. Place looked poorly maintained too. Can't comment on the food was I left due to bad attitude of staff.

They ignored both me and my mother for a good 5 minutes as they were too busy talking to someone else to take our order. When we did ask they said they couldn't accommodate our gluten free diet. If I could rate no stars I would. So I guess they don't serve gluten free fish and chips any more

Firstly the oil taste like they got it out of there car, greasy tasteless and horrible, fish was dry and even our dog wouldn't eat it, the oil really smelled when entering the shop and still smelled all the way home and once we dished up this is the worst fish &chip shop I have ever been to needless to say we will not be returning I would rather eat a bowl of soup avoid at all costs!!!!!!

We ordered two portions of chips, but the taste of the chip oil was a bit nasty. Maybe time to put some new oil in the fryers? I don't think the lady serving heard me when I asked for the chips the first time, because she just said,'Eh?' while she was mopping the floor. Classy.

Friendly service and great chips. Nice firm and dry chips. Not all greasy and floppy. Go here quite regular now from Bridgwater. It's a shame the battered burger is cooked to order as it's quite greasy when not having time to drain a bit. Still go there though because of the chips.

Called in for fish & chips & was very pleased with what we got. They had a nice selection on offer & what we had was served up nice, well cooked & hot. This is a nice shop with very helpful staff. Well worth a visit.

Like most regular customers of this fish & chip shop I / we have never given it a thought to rating its product(s)! Living close to this establishment is handy for us as we don't have to drive into town (Bridgwater), so we use it regularly! As others have stated they usually cook 'to order' and the fish is usually large in size and freshly cooked, chip portions are offered as small, medium and large, which also dictates the end price per 'portion'. They also offer a kids meal which is popular and good value alongside other fried foodstuffs, plus canned drinks etc. During summer months it is possible to sit outside and eat, but they only supply a single table and a few chairs. Parking is on the main road, right outside of the premises, or in one of the side streets nearby. Failing that there is a carpark in the community centre across the road and next to the church rooms that you can use, Some customers take advantage of this and eat their chip supper next to the brook / church rooms. Toilets are also available within this carpark during the day. Note that this shop does not stay open late at night! and usually closes around 9pm.

this little chip shop serves pretty reasonable fish and chips. it's hard to find a good chippy these days but this one's not bad at all.

As this chippy is a 5 minutes walk from my front door it is used on a fairly regular basis. Most orders are cooked while you wait so you are assured of the freshest food possible. Not the hugest portions in the world but very nice quality. Make sure that you try the pea fritters......

Il faut absolument que vous testiez ce Fish and Chips si vous passez par là! On y mange vraiment bien pour peu cher. Le burger veggie est très bon, grande découverte des breaded mushrooms et les Fish & Chips sont servis en grosse portion donc prévoir un bon appétit! Ceux qui gèrent le shop sont adorable. Je conseille vivement!

We recently moved to North Petherton and were delighted to discover a more-than-decent fish and chip bar. Excellent value and friendly service.

The oil must need changing as the chips and fish I had were absolutely awful, they felt and looked like they'd been cooked in old oil. Won't be using them again.

Lovely staff and great fish and chips. Being in a pretty small village the chips are not always straight from the fryer otherwise it would be top marks.
