The Lamb Inn at Spaxton, Somerset is a country pub with skittle alley. Evening meals are served on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Lunch is available on Sundays. My friends and I rank the food highly. This week the chef kindly worked an extra duty to cook evening meals for my group of 4 on Wednesday. Our meals, both main course and pudding, were of generous proportions served piping hot on hot crockery. What more could you ask for? There is a 'specials' board to accompany their ever constant delectable meat pies which are served in individual dishes, unless you prefer them on the plate as I do, in which case request this when ordering. There is off-road parking space in front of the pub and the adjoining public highway can accommodate overflow. It is said that the hospitality sector is having a hard time at present, so your custom would be much appreciated. Enjoy your visit to this rustic establishment - I think you will be pleased. Good luck.

Now its fair to say the pub needs a refresh and a spruce but the food was superb. The pies were excellent and the belly pork was fantastic. Such a shame for a saturday night that there was only 5 of us in there. Deserves better so give it a go if you like proper pub food.

How is it still trading? Saturday night, 8pm, 2 chaps at the bar, warm beer been sat in the pipe for a long time, no one eating. Very run down inside and out. Access to beer garden through the skittle alley, old caravan and rotten car and falling down buildings. Really no idea how it's still open if this is its weekend trade .

Stopped in while walking the Quantocks as we’d been told about the home-made pies, which surpassed expectations: beautifully rich sauces and tender meat (we had the chicken and leek and steak and mushroom). Lovely warm welcome and well kept beer - Spaxton is lucky to have such a great example of the traditional village pub. Do go and support them.

We had a spur of the moment weekend in the Quantocks and managed to bag a Saturday evening table at this wonderful little pub. It is off the beaten track, but well worth seeking out. It is very welcoming with a roaring fire and lovely scrub topped pine tables, clearly catering for both locals and visitors alike and providing a warm welcome for all. The best thing is the food. We are caterers so it easy to go out to eat and be disappointed. This was certainly not the case here. The menu is brilliantly small, with none of the banal and standard fillers on a pub menu. It was high-quality, home cooked and tasted wonderful. I had the lamb cutlets - cooked perfectly to my liking with the most amazing sauce- it was a memorable plateful of food ( we have eaten at Michelin starred restaurants and been served (cold) forgettable food, but that's another story!) My partner's steak and kidney pie was delicious, the steak was probably hand cut , judging by the size of the chunks and the flavour was deep and delicious. This was complimented by a great range of drinks and friendly and efficient service. We definitely plan to return in the future and will stay in the area again just so we can spend another fabulous evening at the Lamb Inn.

It's under new ownership, but the new owners seem to be trying to keep things much as they were. The menu is similar but smaller, and the famous pies are still on the menu. We four all had something different, and all were good. More people seem to be going in for a drink than under the previous owners, so there's a bit more of a buzz. Don't be put off by the blackboard outside inviting you in for drinks and snacks. They do full meals.

This is a traditional pub in a village location, booked in advance for a table for 2 and for a gluten free sauce for the Belly Pork. Service was excellent, friendly and efficient staff, we were soon sorted with drinks and we were ordering our meals (One being Gluten Free). The main courses (We did not order a starter) were excellent, a step up from most places we have eaten at (Not just pubs), the food was cooked to perfection, it was hot and well flavoured. Will definitely be back to try out the rest of the menu. The desserts were very good, we opted for the flavoured ice cream with the dessert (Which cost a little more) but we really enjoyed (There were 2 Gluten Free dessert options).

Four of us were holidaying in the area and decided to give this pub/restaurant a go and we are so glad we did. Upon entering there were clear guidelines on social distancing, and a one way system in place. We signed the book for track and trace and were guided to our table by Julie who was our host for the evening. I had the pork bites as a starter which were amazing and then tried one of their award wining pies. I had steak and mushroom on Julie's recommendation. It was absolutely filled to the brim with filling! I had it with sautéed potatoes which were out of this world. The portion sizes were very impressive, so much so that we couldn't get a pudding in! One of our group chose the belly pork and we all had food envy. The nicest part was that it was dog friendly, and although we didn't have dogs ourselves it was lovey to be surrounded by them :) Teddy, who lived behind the bar, was totally gorgeous too, its worth a visit just to see him! If we come back we will revisit. Julie was such a lovely host, very chatty, knew the menu inside out and was paying very careful attention to the 2m rule.

Extinct, at risk, vulnerable? After a lot of searching I find a country pub - that is not part of a chain managed by very nice, well-intentioned people but instead a real country pub. Full of life, homemade food, very tidy and hygienic and perfectly conforming to all the Covid regulations without making it feel uncomfortable... spot on. The menu is varied and it is hard to choose. I was jealous of the crackling on the pork belly until my Venison and Stilton pie arrived. Absolutely delicious but you’ll have a hard time choosing - the other guests were happy with their choices - Such a great selection- you know you want to come back if not to have room for the Sticky Toffee Pudding - Excellent cask ales and bitter and a nice selection of wine... beautiful backyard but mostly you feel that you have found something that you thought might have been lost... like a warm fire? Village pub - people are welcomed by name ??!!? A really nice pause ... a feeling of the ideal regained? The truth - I regret writing this as this hidden gem doesn’t need my review and I fear I may never be able to get in if the word gets out... so local it’s under the radar - faith restored...

We visited Somerset recently at stayed in Cannington - we googled where to eat and chose The Lamb Inn in Spaxton. It was an enjoyable drive to it and we were so pleasantly surprised. It was a Friday evening - the pub was busy with a mix of diners and locals as it was also skittles night. We felt really welcome. There was a good choice on the menu, we opted for rack of lamb and belly pork. We were rather taken aback by the amount of meat we got, choice of potatoes and we both opted for dauphinois and again a choice of vegetables. Everything was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. The waitress was bubbly, attentive and charming. The landlady came over to make sure all was ok. We were rather full so asked if we could share a pudding - no problem. When we left the landlord and landlady called out Goodbye etc to us. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening there and can highly recommend.

We booked a table in advance for myself, partner and 11yr old son for a 50th birthday treat after a terrible, disappointing experience at another pub a few weeks ago. This was totally different - wonderful staff both serving food and behind the bar, chatty, polite and smiley and checking if everything was ok. The food was absolutely amazing.. garlic mushroom and breaded brie wedges to start were lovely. My son had the (adult) steak and mushroom pie with chips and peas.. and ate the lot! Fillet steak was melt in the mouth beautiful and my duck breast with red wine and cranberry sauce was cooked just as I asked. Generous portions of dauphinoise potato and vegetables too. We were stuffed after this but there was no way I was leaving without a homemade dessert! When the lovely waitress showed us the options I was struggling to choose until she said there was baileys cheesecake! Incredibly rich but superb.. I should have asked for the recipe! Great atmosphere in this little village pub, we had a wonderful evening and hope to come back soon.

Whilst away on our family holiday we decided to head to this pub purely on the excellent Tripadvisor reviews. We wanted a tasty roast but hadn’t booked so wasn’t sure if they’d have a table but thought it was worth trying. To our joy we were welcomed by a lovely friendly waitress who showed us straight to a table without question. We then happily ordered our drinks & choice of roast dinner. All seemed to be going well until a man stormed up to us demanding to know our name. Without so much as a hello, excuse me or explanation. We advised him of our name - he then announced that we shouldn’t have a table as they were fully booked. Obviously an unfortunate mistake by the delightful young waitress. He managed to make us feel utterly unwelcome & like it was totally our fault that we were given a table, almost like we had knowingly taken some other diners table! In truth there were 2 free tables next to us & a 3rd also came free whilst we were there, so they weren’t table-less by any means. He stomped off as quickly & as grumpily as he arrived. Our poor waitress arrived with our food, explained & apologised for her mistake. She was a sweetheart & we felt terrible for her. Whilst we were eating we witnessed the same man shouting at staff and generally throwing a horrendous atmosphere in the bar. We couldn’t have eaten our food any quicker & couldn’t wait to get out of there.

We had a gorgeous meal here. The staff were so friendly. The pub is very comfortable and clean. We will be back.

Ok if you like microwave ping food. Pub has ample parking and is in a good location in the beautiful village of Cheddar. Staff were friendly pub looked clean however food was really poor. Some items were not available which I know can't be helped, what we did have was awful and sadly would not return for food. Sad really as its in a perfect spot.

If you are with a dog on your own how are you supposed to order your food? Dogs (understandably) not allowed in the cafe area - but equally it is not appropriate to leave them outside unattended. So how to do it? It might seem a small thing, but there seems to be an assumption there is also someone else to go and do the ordering.... Went home...

Awful ! Overpriced ... poor service ! No meals except pastries .... a sausage roll was £6.95 ! I know it's a National Trust and we are members I agree they do a great deal of good. However, with such a prime seaside spot .... loads of families on the beach ...they should offer normal seaside food and priced! We had a coffee and a slice of cake and it came to £20 for 2 of us. Families are struggling at the moment. I can't understand why they don't offer traditional seaside food like a bag of chips, ice creams, lollies, milk shakes etc. They have a prime spot with a captive audience as its the only cafe at Brean down. Felt very dissapointed it could be so much improved !.... prices are Ridiculous !!!!! Service is bad you order then go to another partcto collect , no please or thank you ! I think they love dogs more than people !

Very busy café, but incredibly efficient team handling orders so no wait at all really! I had a chicken Sunday roast with extra gravy, they forgot my Yorkshire pudding and I didn't realise that I didn't have one until an hour later lol, oh dear, it's an age thing ha ha! Roast potatoes obviously deep fried, they were rather bland looking and tasting tbh, so oven roasts would have been much nicer as these weren't the best. £11.95 plus a coffee on top, so circa £15 in total. Dinner was nice enough, and the portions are generous also. I would return for the same, but with the Yorkie next time lol, as the service was excellent, very friendly indeed. Sort the roasties out and you're onto a winner! (P.S. I would recommend this place, the deserts looked absolutely gorgeous!)
