Ok if you like microwave ping food. Pub has ample parking and is in a good location in the beautiful village of Cheddar. Staff were friendly pub looked clean however food was really poor. Some items were not available which I know can't be helped, what we did have was awful and sadly would not return for food. Sad really as its in a perfect spot.

Spotted the Riverside Inn when leaving The Cheddar Caves and it was just on the rounabout. Parking is free beside the pub. Which is a huge help. Great deals with food and drink. Loads of room inside and great outside sitting area. Bathroom clean. Very friendly atmosphere. Clean plates which was a great report and happy with the bill. Happy customers from Ireland.

Very bad value for money. Almost all the items were not fresh and tasted bland. We ordered a fish and chips and a full english. The toasts were greasy and nasty, the fish too greasy and overcooked. The fries were mediocre. Lots of things like cutlery and a bean were left on the ground. We paid 50£ for these as well as two half pints of one of the worst beers I have tasted. The staff was ok. Bad experience, don't recommend.

Good Food. Poor Service. Staff too busy watching football to clear main courses before bringing out dessert. Waitressing 101 Our (adult) desserts came out 18 minutes before our 2 kids chocolate brownies. Kids left waiting for pudding. Called manager out, couldn’t get a word in, rude staff, lazy, can’t be bothered attitude. Save your money. Plenty of better pubs around.

Wow, what a gem of a place . We went (4adults and a infant)late on a Sunday afternoon after a leisurely day in Cheddar . Staff were really friendly and accommodating. Really quick on service and helpful in our choice of meals . All our meals came out faster than we expected which was a great surprise and it looked so appetising. The vegetarian option for lunch was really tasty. The staff were helpful in giving us some foil for the leftovers which we couldn’t manage , but it didn’t stop us ordering a pudding. Overall we couldn’t fault it (except I would like English mustard) and we planned another visit for lunch in the week . Well done everyone, especially as we found out how busy you had been before our visit. Look forward to going back .

Food was pretty good and a nice selection of drinks. Outside area is great. However the ladies on front of house couldn't be arsed, and the lunch specials are fine as long as you get the standard drinks. Upsells are complex and not worth it.

Found the riverside when visiting the area, Plenty of parking space on offer aswell, Plenty of room in teh bar area or conservatory, food arrived after and no issues at all, staff did get the drinks order incorrect but soon rectified with no problems and an apology, The only issue i would say is that the bar area isnt that large, sevreal people i guess locals was sat at the bar taking up almost half of it and staff forced to serve at teh side which was very congested again not a problem just an observation. A great find, friendly staff and lovely food, will visit again for sure.

I visited this place on a weekday evening in the hope of something to eat. On a previous visit I had enjoyed the food and thought I would try it again. My first impressions of the place now were sadly very disappointing. As I entered I quickly realised it was the local young persons hang out. I honestly thought a couple of the kids drinking in there were under age. The pub looked tiny inside and was split into two different bars both as small as each other. The lay out was a bit of a maze also and just didn't make the place feel easy to be in somehow. I decided not to eat today. The atmosphere was terrible. A few other people had gathered in the rain outside under the covered tables just to stay away from the pub and the shenanigans going on inside. Sad really because the garden is huge and sat right on a river, which in summer is usually packed and thriving. I think I will return on a weekend afternoon and update this review as I feel it may redeem itself. (There is always hope) A more recent visit was much more agreeable. Live music from Sam Evans and ot a teenager in sight. Perfect.

Not keen on this place unfortunately.noting against the staff, they were great but it didn't feel the friendliest of pubs. At one point, a bloke stood with his large Labrador in front of our table for a few minutes and the dog seemed to try and get out food. Annoying.

It's said to be friendly, dogs welcome. What a disappointment 😞. I thought I would treat myself to a nice evening meal out on my last night of holiday. I was kept waiting 10 mins before I was served, miserable staff, no meet or greet. As for the food. Make sure you say starter (which I did when ordering) thought was obvious as what I asked for was from starter menu or it will come out with your main, then the main was kept under grill so my bread and butter with my well done fish and chips was toast and the butter liquid 😟. I should of complained there and then. But being on my own, I was too upset. Rotten end to a lovely holiday 😭.

Lovely pub right by the river. There’s a large outdoor seating area and beer garden incorporating a small children’s play area. The beer prices are quite high but is normal for an area like this. Shocking service, staff too busy watching football to attend to customers. Tables dirty, many tables not cleared away, floor wet, no menus on tables,, no tomato sauce (yes really). The standard of the food was without doubt the worst I have experienced in Britain for many decades. Resembled frozen food purchased at the cheapest of supermarkets. Nice little pub with a lovely outside area and small children’s area (climbing frame and slide). There is baby change here but the fold down baby change is positioned so high above the toilet in the ladies that you wouldn’t be able to get a toddler up there (and I’m 5’10” so can reach most things - I even got my husband in to help who is 6’3” who looked at it and said no way). There is a small flat surface next to the sink and we used that instead!

We didn’t end up staying and ordering anything which is very dissapointing and this is why: On arrival it looked nice and we found a table. Myself and my daughter needed the toilet before ordering food. One set of toilets was closed so we went round to the other. Neither toilet had any toilet paper and there was no soap. I noticed on the signing sheet that various staff members had mentioned no soap. When leaving the toilet I got my son to go in gents for us to see if it was clear and it was for us to wash our hands and again no soap. I went and advised bar lady. Whose response said “we haven’t got any soap” and then walked away. I was not prepared to let myself or my children eat in an establishment where basic hygiene is not being adhered to. In this day and age it’s disgusting that you would even open with no soap anywhere to wash hands. If your normal supplier has run out then pop to Tesco for a normal pump hand soap surely! We ended up going along the road and having a lovely lunch, where there was soap available

This place is a fab pub and I 100% recommend it. I've been several times now, when taking walks with my dogs into Cheddar. I've eaten a number of meals, but insist you try their steak (best steak I've ever had!) Dog friendly, clean and a well laid out environment. The garden is huge, so plenty of places to sit outside and a small play area for children. Plenty of sitting space inside also. A good range of food choice and their drink options are good too. I feel that everything is reasonably priced for the location. For such a large place, I have always felt that they have plenty of staff, who are friendly, quick to serve you and happy to correct anything I have not been happy with. The only thing that I feel needs improving, is their toilet facilities, very small for a large place, needs some attention and I'm not sure if they have anyone with disability difficulties, as noone with a wheelchair would fit into those toilets. Overall though, the place is worth a visit :)

We wanted a nice family meal at the end of a long day out in Cheddar. Fancied a proper pub with real pub grub that was also dog friendly. It ticked that box well, and also had a great garden with play equipment which kept our youngest happy. So far so good. We were told when ordering drinks that there could be up to an hours wait for food but that was ok with us as we were happy to chat and have a leisurely drink whilst we were waiting. The food, however, when it arrived was not great. Our son said it was a bit like school dinners. Those of us who had vegetables commented that it was like they’d microwaved frozen packet veg. It was all done on the cheap and with very little love. It was edible but that’s it. Quite mean portions too. The whole place was scruffy too.

Visited the restaurant as part of a group of 3 for dinner. There was no option to have a tab, and it was bar service only, which meant that to add a desert, coffee, or drink to our order meant paying for every transaction separately! They'd run out of rice, so chilly was served with chips. Food was just warm enough and smallish portions, and the decor was tired with wallpaper hanging off the wall. Don't bother, there are much better places to eat in Cheddar.

When you occupy a great location right next to one of the biggest and busiest car parks in Cheddar you’d think this would be a better experience. The staff were really lovely… all very friendly and welcoming to both humans and dogs alike. The rest was a bit mediocre at best. There were more tables that needed clearing than didn’t… It’s part of a chain so the menu was reflective of that, lots of pub standards with some strange sponsored choices (Doritos are available with some dishes 🤔) so we all played it safe - fish and chips, scampi and chips and burgers. The burgers were pretty good and tasted that way too… the scampi and fish were ok it nothing to get too excited about. Everything looked like it had been left under the lamps of the pass a little too long. Then the discovery of no salt, no ketchup (only curry ketchup which tastes like cheap tomato sauce from the 70s), no vinegar but bottles of HP sauce aplenty. I scouted many tables and there was none of the required condiments hidden in the mess on any of the still uncleared tables. When I asked I was directed to a corner table that was covered in empty wooden caddies that longed to have some use other than as a home for the aforementioned bottles of HP (and French’s Mustard 🤢) We ate it because it was edible and we were really hungry… if you read this and go to Cheddar then avoid it if you’re hungry. There are other better looking places further along the gorge.

It’s only because I check that they said it did contain egg. Staff did refund, but it’s just not a good service. The Doritos on it, were bits of a crushed popadom. The bowl of beans pictured on the kids meal, was at best, a tablespoonful. Menu is basic, and still had lots of items missing. It may be better for lunch, but I would not recommend a dinner there.

The server seemed annoyed when we asked them to take it back till the food came. Staff ignored us when we tried to get their attention even though they were not serving or clearing at the time. Eventually managed to call someone over to ask them to check on our meal as we had been waiting half an hour- we were told there were 4 orders ahead of us and there was a 45 minute wait for food which nobody had told us when we ordered. Would have been fine if we had been told but then another table got their food before ours despite arriving after us. Food was good, fresh and hot and all very tasty. If you are with a dog on your own how are you supposed to order your food? Dogs (understandably) not allowed in the cafe area - but equally it is not appropriate to leave them outside unattended. So how to do it? It might seem a small thing, but there seems to be an assumption there is also someone else to go and do the ordering.... Went home...

Awful ! Overpriced ... poor service ! No meals except pastries .... a sausage roll was £6.95 ! I know it's a National Trust and we are members I agree they do a great deal of good. However, with such a prime seaside spot .... loads of families on the beach ...they should offer normal seaside food and priced! We had a coffee and a slice of cake and it came to £20 for 2 of us. Families are struggling at the moment. I can't understand why they don't offer traditional seaside food like a bag of chips, ice creams, lollies, milk shakes etc. They have a prime spot with a captive audience as its the only cafe at Brean down. Felt very dissapointed it could be so much improved !.... prices are Ridiculous !!!!! Service is bad you order then go to another partcto collect , no please or thank you ! I think they love dogs more than people !

Very busy café, but incredibly efficient team handling orders so no wait at all really! I had a chicken Sunday roast with extra gravy, they forgot my Yorkshire pudding and I didn't realise that I didn't have one until an hour later lol, oh dear, it's an age thing ha ha! Roast potatoes obviously deep fried, they were rather bland looking and tasting tbh, so oven roasts would have been much nicer as these weren't the best. £11.95 plus a coffee on top, so circa £15 in total. Dinner was nice enough, and the portions are generous also. I would return for the same, but with the Yorkie next time lol, as the service was excellent, very friendly indeed. Sort the roasties out and you're onto a winner! (P.S. I would recommend this place, the deserts looked absolutely gorgeous!)
