Joined some friends here for a 50th birthday meal on Saturday. The restaurant was not busy. The menu was good, and five of us wanted the fish & chips. Went to the bar to order and the fish & chips had sold out. I chose the gammon & chips. My meal didn't take too long to arrive. Unfortunately, the gammon was over cooked and dry. It was difficult to cut, let alone eat, and most of it went to the dog. The fried egg was burnt too. The chips, pineapple, onion rings and peas were fine. For pudding, I wanted the Honeycomb Cheesecake, but sold out. Ended up with the chocolate brownie. It arrived and was a very small portion which was also burnt and the topping was hard. The ice cream was okay. Lastly they had sold out of coffee!! To top it off there was a live band who started up halfway through our meal. The band were actually very good, but far too noisy, even the bar staff couldn't hear anyone ordering. The staff were really lovely and helpful.

Visited on a Saturday evening to meet up with some family, had 2 dogs with us, there was a band on, which was great But the food was sure a let down, I had Lasagna which came with a very small side salad and almost burnt garlic bread, I can honestly say it was the worst I had ever had, they had run out of Steak! The food really let them down, sorry will never return again, only writing this so no one else wasters their money!

Lovely visit today, greeted by bar staff as soon as we entered & were allowed to choose our own seating. We ordered on the app & did not have a long wait before drinks and breakfast was served. Some breakfast items were very hot some on the colder side so it balanced out the plate a little but I can see how some people may not enjoy the meal the same as we did. It was very quite and peaceful during our visit maybe only 10/15 other people in the pub as we went when doors open however I expect during the summer months or during match days (there are multiple huge tvs within the building) it would be quite busy and loud.

A group of five of us visited, and although your staff were very friendly, the quality of service and food was very poor. The roasts we ordered were particularly poor, as the meat was tough and the frozen veg partly warmed through, served with half a raw carrot and parsnip which we thought was bizarre. We paid in full as I didn’t think this was a reflection of the staff but more the ingredients they were supplied. Very dissatisfied.

I visited this place on a weekday evening in the hope of something to eat. On a previous visit I had enjoyed the food and thought I would try it again. My first impressions of the place now were sadly very disappointing. As I entered I quickly realised it was the local young persons hang out. I honestly thought a couple of the kids drinking in there were under age. The pub looked tiny inside and was split into two different bars both as small as each other. The lay out was a bit of a maze also and just didn't make the place feel easy to be in somehow. I decided not to eat today. The atmosphere was terrible. A few other people had gathered in the rain outside under the covered tables just to stay away from the pub and the shenanigans going on inside. Sad really because the garden is huge and sat right on a river, which in summer is usually packed and thriving. I think I will return on a weekend afternoon and update this review as I feel it may redeem itself. (There is always hope) A more recent visit was much more agreeable. Live music from Sam Evans and ot a teenager in sight. Perfect.

It's said to be friendly, dogs welcome. What a disappointment 😞. I thought I would treat myself to a nice evening meal out on my last night of holiday. I was kept waiting 10 mins before I was served, miserable staff, no meet or greet. As for the food. Make sure you say starter (which I did when ordering) thought was obvious as what I asked for was from starter menu or it will come out with your main, then the main was kept under grill so my bread and butter with my well done fish and chips was toast and the butter liquid 😟. I should of complained there and then. But being on my own, I was too upset. Rotten end to a lovely holiday 😭.

This place is a fab pub and I 100% recommend it. I've been several times now, when taking walks with my dogs into Cheddar. I've eaten a number of meals, but insist you try their steak (best steak I've ever had!) Dog friendly, clean and a well laid out environment. The garden is huge, so plenty of places to sit outside and a small play area for children. Plenty of sitting space inside also. A good range of food choice and their drink options are good too. I feel that everything is reasonably priced for the location. For such a large place, I have always felt that they have plenty of staff, who are friendly, quick to serve you and happy to correct anything I have not been happy with. The only thing that I feel needs improving, is their toilet facilities, very small for a large place, needs some attention and I'm not sure if they have anyone with disability difficulties, as noone with a wheelchair would fit into those toilets. Overall though, the place is worth a visit :)

We didn’t end up staying and ordering anything which is very dissapointing and this is why: On arrival it looked nice and we found a table. Myself and my daughter needed the toilet before ordering food. One set of toilets was closed so we went round to the other. Neither toilet had any toilet paper and there was no soap. I noticed on the signing sheet that various staff members had mentioned no soap. When leaving the toilet I got my son to go in gents for us to see if it was clear and it was for us to wash our hands and again no soap. I went and advised bar lady. Whose response said “we haven’t got any soap” and then walked away. I was not prepared to let myself or my children eat in an establishment where basic hygiene is not being adhered to. In this day and age it’s disgusting that you would even open with no soap anywhere to wash hands. If your normal supplier has run out then pop to Tesco for a normal pump hand soap surely! We ended up going along the road and having a lovely lunch, where there was soap available

We wanted a nice family meal at the end of a long day out in Cheddar. Fancied a proper pub with real pub grub that was also dog friendly. It ticked that box well, and also had a great garden with play equipment which kept our youngest happy. So far so good. We were told when ordering drinks that there could be up to an hours wait for food but that was ok with us as we were happy to chat and have a leisurely drink whilst we were waiting. The food, however, when it arrived was not great. Our son said it was a bit like school dinners. Those of us who had vegetables commented that it was like they’d microwaved frozen packet veg. When you occupy a great location right next to one of the biggest and busiest car parks in Cheddar you’d think this would be a better experience. The staff were really lovely… all very friendly and welcoming to both humans and dogs alike. The rest was a bit mediocre at best. There were more tables that needed clearing than didn’t… It’s part of a chain so the menu was reflective of that, lots of pub standards with some strange sponsored choices (Doritos are available with some dishes 🤔) so we all played it safe - fish and chips, scampi and chips and burgers. The burgers were pretty good and tasted that way too… the scampi and fish were ok it nothing to get too excited about. Everything looked like it had been left under the lamps of the pass a little too long. Then the discovery of no salt, no ketchup (only curry ketchup which tastes like cheap tomato sauce from the 70s), no vinegar but bottles of HP sauce aplenty. I scouted many tables and there was none of the required condiments hidden in the mess on any of the still uncleared tables. When I asked I was directed to a corner table that was covered in empty wooden caddies that longed to have some use other than as a home for the aforementioned bottles of HP (and French’s Mustard 🤢) We ate it because it was edible and we were really hungry… if you read this and go to Cheddar then avoid it if you’re hungry. There are other better looking places further along the gorge.

Came here with my wife & my mum for a meal but was not a good experience hardly anything left available on the menu mum wanted the scampi but was none left & no steak & ale pie no fish & chips no chicken tikka left either when the food did arrive chips were only just warm & tasted like cheap frozen chips hardly any potato in them. No salt anywhere to be found had to leave the food to go and ask someone lots of uncleared tables aswell & they didn't have any of the bottles of red or white wine that we wanted off the menu so settled for the 3rd bottle offered. We left still feeling hungry & £59 out of pocket. There are better pubs in cheddar for a meal.

Returned this year after a lovely experience the previous year which offered both great food and excellent service! !! Sadly it was a disappointment no Sunday lunches despite the tv in the pub advertising them !! Food took around 80 minutes to arrive and was nothing special !! We did chase the food and was advised abruptly there was an hours wait for food we were never advised this at the time of ordering !! Real shame as previous year was amazing hence the return !! It may have changed hands if so not for the better !!

The food is disappointing, looks good but without salt, no taste at all, a liter of sauce saved the fish and chips but the curry could not be saved, it tasted so lame

The atmosphere and service were good, though the food unfortunately underperformed.

The food was poor. At best, it was a decent ready meal. There were many items missing. I ordered a vegan burger (egg intolerant). It was served in a brioche bun (not vegan - so contains egg). It’s only because I check that they said it did contain egg. Staff did refund, but it’s just not a good service. The Doritos on it, were bits of a crushed popadom. The bowl of beans pictured on the kids meal, was at best, a tablespoonful. Menu is basic, and still had lots of items missing. It may be better for lunch, but I would not recommend a dinner there.

Rude service and awful value for money. Paid £8 for two absolutely minuscule bowls of chips. I was in disbelief when the waitress (long black hair and filler) brought them over, which she could see. She didn’t say anything, walked away and just shook her head. She didn’t offer any condiments either so I had to walk around the restaurant to get them from other tables myself. Very disappointing experience, which is a shame as the setting is lovely.

I had the all day breakfast. My eggs were under cooked, egg whites were still very runny. Ended up with food poisoning. All tables were reserved, Waitress was polite enough, when we asked about sitting at one of the reserved tables. 2 hours previous to what time it was reserved for.

The most unwelcoming/unfriendly establishment I have ever been to. I must have been to 100s. Myself, partner and 7 year old went in for lunch keen to part with our money. Lunch for our 7 year old was the same price as the adult meal. I was told there are other pubs you could go to which would welcome children. I will never, ever go here again.
