This was my first visit to the George - for lunch on a Wednesday. The welcome my friend and I received was wonderful and we were served straight away, even though they were busy. The food was exceptional and the steak pie I ordered was probably the best I have ever had. Made and baked on the premises it was delicious. The haddock and chips was brilliant too. A great atmosphere and very nice staff.

The George restaurant has plenty of seating, but manages to keep a cosy atmosphere. The service is friendly and while there is no a huge choice, there should be something for everyone. Two of our party had the fish and were well pleased. I had the Chicken escalope and was somewhat disappointed. The chicken was dried and the breadcrumb coating was a bit tough. The vegetable - broccoli spears - were minimal and not particularly hot. The skin on chips however were great. I also enjoyed the Flower Pot beer they served.

A fine luncheon was served of Liver Pate with onion pickle on toasted Chiabatta. Followed by Venison Pie and a mighty Beef Burger. Our dog was made most welcome and made a fuss of by staff and customers alike. A visit to the Gent's Loo is a very special experience. the wall-paper, is absolutley fabulous.

I popped in here in the way back from Andover to Newbury. A warm & friendly greeting from Anya as I decided what to drink. After being given a taster I went for a pint of Hawkstone Cider. I was kindly allowed to use a socket to charge up my battery (e-bike) for the journey home. Had a nice conversation about the beautiful Test Valley area before it was time to head back. Will stop for some food next time.

Visited for the first time for lunch. Very impressed. The food was excellent - plentiful and exceptionally tasty. Pork chops cooked to perfection, loved the roasted root veg and toffee sponge light as a feather. As a wheelchair user I’m always checking out access and facilities as not having good access and toilet facilities can change an enjoyable outing into a challenge! . As we attempted to enter from CarPark and found several steps, the landlord rushed out to help us. The pub is split level so he pointed out that there was level access to everything using front door including to the disabled toilet facilities which were fully up to date and spotlessly clean. In fact everywhere was clean, tidy and well looked after. In my experience that usually follows that there is good food too. Staff helpful and polite. Highly recommended all round.

So today was a big day for us - our first Sunday roast takeaway in 2021 and we couldn't have chosen a better place to get it from! The George has just had a huge refurbishment and our takeaway lunch came with a sneak preview of the new interior of the pub which is simply wonderful. Our roast lunch was huge - delicious roast beef, roast potatoes, three veg, massive Yorkshire pudding and to-die-for gravy. All presented in recyclable boxes and piping hot. We absolutely loved it and we will be back for more... And we can't wait for restrictions to be lifted so we can actually sit in this gorgeous pub and enjoy a glass of wine with our meal. Cannot recommend strongly enough

We are local and popped in for a drink one Friday lunchtime in August . Everything as it should be including track and trace, hand sanitizer , bar area is behind a see through area ( from the ceiling down but you can still talk to and see the staff behind )which is not the case in all pubs or restaurants ).One way system in place Girl who served us very friendly and helpful . Havent been for food yet but will do as a very nice place. Thoroughly recommended .

Down in Hampshire for a few days and came across The George Inn. Stopped for a spot of lunch. We were, from first entering the building made to feel very welcome and safe given the current times. The girl behind the bar was very friendly taking our drink and food order and came and checked we were ok. Lunch was lovely and freshly prepared. There is a lovely courtyard out the back as well as seating out the front to choose from. We met AnnMarie the landlady who introduced herself, checked we were ok, had everything we needed and chatted for a while. Nothing was too much trouble even though they were busy. I would really recommend visiting The George Inn. We had a lovely relaxing few hours and were well looked after.

Food orders took 50 minutes for sandwiches and ploughmans. Neither was good with raw onions replacing pickled onions and rubbish bread. Any questions met with surly responses

Me and my boyfriend walked here on a Saturday, I ordered a beef brisket and a toastie, alongside two drinks. The lady was very kind and she brought out the toastie and drinks. After a little while I went back in and asked about the missing beef brisket to which they said they had now sold out of and was really apologetic. I said it was absolutely fine I can buy something different, however the ladies were adamant to give me a full refund and asked me if I’d like to pick something else free of charge. The staff were so lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful we were really appreciative of them!

Had a really spelndid time at the Mad Hatter's party. A lot of thought and effort had obviously gone into it. Delightful 🙂

Uniquely old world pub. Only lunches served (baguettes). Great beer. Great host and staff.
