Superb atmosphere, the best steak I’ve had in my life! (10oz fillet) chef was so down to earth and welcoming - showed us different cuts of steak and told us about their source. Went above and beyond for service - orders taken quickly and all staff friendly and polite. Felt a very cosy and happy little village pub. Will definitely be back for more steak and the fresh salad bowls that come with it! :) Thank you so much ☺️

After hearing exceptional things about The George Inn and being a steak,lovers. We decided to dine here for my son's birthday and it lived up to our expectations. Firsty the low cellings and flagstone floors, are the sort of pub, we enjoy. Then couple that with attentive ,friendily and efficient service from the numerous staff plus sublime steaks and you have a recipe for a very enjoyable evening. The five of us ,all had steaks, my ribeye, was cooked to my liking and delicious, it came with tasty chips, salad and a excellent blue stilton sauce, extra. I couldn't resist dessert and my white chocolate and toblerone cheesecake was a delight. Drinks were at a reasonable price, as was food considering the quality. I would recommend booking, in advance, as we did and will on our next visit.

After hearing good things about the george I decided to try it out, I never booked, but got a seat at the bar, staff where brilliant, steak was fantastic, the guy who runs it is a gentleman and very attentive. Will definitely go again

As all other reviews state - fantastic steaks!! Four of us went here for a birthday celebration and every one of our steaks was delicious (Sirloins and Ribeyes). Very happy with service and the culinary delights! Deserts were also very nice. Thank you to the staff for a wonderful night.

By far the best steak I have ever ate. Been here many, many times and it never disappoints. The food is to such a high standard, the pub is lovely and the staff are always so friendly. Great pub, great meal, perfect.

A well established and reliable eatery. The George Inn Steakhouse! Just make sure to book well in advance, but I guess the regulars know that!! which is why they always book it up so quickly! It's totally worth the wait though... Surf and Turf - that's the way to go in my opinion! Or a MOAB if you're feeling extra gluttonous. They also do plenty of other burger variations if you're interested in the MOAB but don't have the room. Stilton sauce is my favourite, but I am also partial to a peppercorn...However, I have calamari every time, wether that's as a side or as a starter. They also make their own biltong and often have it for sale at the bar. Once again, be quick to snap it up. It's very popular - the owners are South African, so they know their biltong. To be honest, they know their meat in all regards! The George Inn is clearly listed as a pub and steakhouse with vegetarian options. I'm not too sure why a vegan would come to a here expecting anything other. Unless of course...they're tempted - I would be! This is a very meat orientated pub, so if that's not for you, then it's the wrong place to be searching for a chef to "cook up some vegetables". But if you aren't a vegan...then you'll struggle to find somewhere that compares.

The George Inn Middlezoy has truly mastered the art of serving their customers delicious high-quality food. Each cut of steak whether it be ribeye, sirloin or fillet are a culinary delight! (I've tried them all on numerous occasions and they never dissapoint)! Portions are plentiful but if you have room for pudding the home-made cheesecakes are a must! The establishment is clearly labelled a steak house and quite understandably does not cater for a plant-based diet (to demand otherwise from a chef who takes such pride in his craft would be rather insulting)! The need to book well in advance speaks for itself! The staff are welcoming and always happy to help. As a frequent customer I highly recommend.

Disgusting service. Rude staff No choice of food for dietary requirements, didn’t want me to attend a meal with friends because I was taking up the seat of a meat eater. Said they couldn’t cater for vegan but seriously what kind of chef can’t cook up some vegetables if nothing else!! Made rude comments about veganism at the meal and all my meat eater friends were disgusted also.

Went on Good Friday for dinner and it was delicious as usual (had steaks and salad and cheesecake). Friendly service, too. I must say, though, that the peppercorn sauce was very watery - not the thick, creamy sauce we had on previous occasions. A bit disappointing for a price of £4.95. Also there used to be a choice of salad OR vegetables (included with the steak), and this time it was only salad and if one wanted vegetables, they had to be ordered separately for an extra £3.50 (I think...). So not sure if instead of putting the prices up a few corners were cut. It was still a nice experience, though.

Omg what a stunning place.quaint warm an the food to die for mussels for me an lasagne for other half. Sticky toffee pud an Eaton mess couple of drinks each 72.00 very reasonable compared to other places. Wished I could go every week. Service outstanding

Steaks were good cant fault them but chips are not triple cooked as stated they are frozen.The Calamari was soggy and £5.95 for three rings not value at all.I did mention the chips twice to the servers but got no response from managemant or chef.

Had a first class fillet steak cooked to perfection such a shame the chips were frozen and not homemade and at £30 + had to pay extra for vegetables!!!

We've come here several times now (this time on Christmas Eve) and the food is always delicious. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. Steaks are great, this time we also tried the calamari. Nothing to complain, can't wait to go again.

What a fabulous evening 12 of us had recently. The staff were very attentive with brilliant service & the food was excellent. I had rib-eye steak & peppercorn sauce with salad & chips. It was delicious & cooked perfectly. Can’t wait to visit again in the New Year.

Absolutely wonderful place to eat and stay!!! We stayed with our 2 children and the rooms were beautifully presented, spotlessly clean, and lovely treats in the fridge for all 4 of us! We had the most amazing evening meal in the pub, all 4 of us enjoyed the most delicious fillet steaks we’ve ever eaten…and we love steak so that’s some statement!!! Graeme (the highly talented owner and chef) cooked the meal to utter perfection and the staff led by Candice were professional and attentive! This place is a must!!!

Best steak & ale pie ever, taste was amazing and I reckon there were two steaks chopped up in the pie. It was huge and cooked to perfection. It was then followed by the raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake which didn’t need any cream nor ice cream because it was beautifully smooth and creamy on its own. Friends and husband had steaks and a burger, which looked fabulous, but I just concentrated on my delicious pie!Staff, landlord and landlady, although busy, we’re extremely attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend.

The food is fabulous especially the beef steaks and lamb steaks! You can choose the size of your steak so if you have a hearty appetite then there’s a steak to suit you!! The desserts are delicious with a lovely choice of ice creams to go with them!! The service is great with lovely service staff and the landlord and landlady are great hosts doing their best in difficult times!! The pub is COVID secure with a one-way system in place! The food is fantastic quality and expect to pay for the quality, it is worth every penny!! If you have a special occasion then it’s a great place to go to celebrate!! We would eat there every night if it was possible!! Try it you won’t be disappointed!!

Food not bad but well over priced, not Covid Friendly due to its size, plus Landlord lacks People Skills, McDonald's here we come!!!!

My partner and I stayed here for an evening, wished we stayed for two! Both Graeme and Candice are brilliant hosts and have a beautiful inn, the restaurant and bar area is authentic and traditional. Fantastic selection of beers and ciders on tap, the food is incredible! Highly recommend the steak. Service was brilliant. The room we stayed in was perfect. We will definitely be coming back.

We are currently staying here with my 87 year old mother, in two rooms and can say we are very impressed. Really lovely rooms and very accessible.Tonight we met up with some others from our family for a celebration meal. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We all had something different and found the food cooked beautifully. We were made to feel very welcome.We will certainly be returning when we come back to Somerset next year

Visited the pub for a lovely evening meal. The steaks are amazing! The pub has a lovely atmosphere and the staff were great. Dog friendly in the bar.

Tucked away in the village centre.The menu is varied with a selection of good food. Can get busy as it is a poular local pub.

Absolutely fantastic hosts in Candice and Graham very helpful very friendly excelent menu and choice of wines spirits and beers the accommodation offered is excelent very very clean and comfortable good access plenty of on site parking tea and coffee in the room very nice staff can't recommend highly enough thanks Candice and Graham

We were staying nearby and asked on the off chance if we could book a table. It was Saturday evening so unsurprisingly booked up. But they said come back after your walk and we’ll see what we can do. Sure to their word when we came back we had a table waiting. We ordered ribeye steak. It was the best steak we can remember. Lovely place, great service, friendly atmosphere. Will come again. PS the homemade cheesecake is amazeballs too.

Wow, what an amazing place. Graeme and Candace were fantastic hosts, couldn't do enough for us. The rooms are new, and very cosy and clean, with breakfast provided. Make sure to have a steak at the restaurant, it will not disappoint.

Amazing steak, been twice now. You can chose the cut and any size you like! Little pricey but you get what you pay for. Perfectly cooked steaks for everyone and the sides/sauces are all delicious.Lovely and friendly staff, service quick even with tables of over 10 people.On a side note the home made cheesecake is amazing but the 'Don Pedro' is a must if you're staying for pudding.

We had been recommended The George and strongly advised to have steak as this is what the pub is known for. The pub is situated in a small village and we enjoyed a lovely welcome on arrival.All the staff were friendly and the service was excellent.The owner came out for a chat and to tell us about the menu and specifically the steaks.I choose an 8oz sirloin, mum choose an 8oz fillet and my husband choose a 10oz fillet all cooked to medium. We ordered them with triple cooked chips and salad, a peppercorn sauce and a Stilton sauce.Everything was fabulous. The steaks were cooked to perfection and so very tasty. I can’t remember the last time I had a steak that tasted this good. I really can’t fault anything.We didn’t have room for puddings ( which looked gorgeous ) but settled for ice cream and coffees.We had a fabulous evening and will be booking to go again soon with friends.

We were lucky to arrive on their lunch day , as they also close Monday & Tuesday , so you need to check with them first if you would like to go there .The menu was restricted but we both tucked into home made meat Lasagne . I then had the 3 portions Salcombe ice cream for afters , and the whole experience was enjoyable with our South African host & his wife, who were most agreeable . Would highly recommend you to visit if you are in the area , it is not far from Bridgwater.

First time visit to this terrific village Inn, friendly atmosphere, welcoming owners and staff, steaks cooked to perfection, highly recommend we cant wait to take our friends there !! Just had a steak dinner at this inn. Wow!!! What a great piece of steak. The staff were very pleasant and the chef (possibly owner) was very attentive to our needs. I only have one tiny, criticism the meals accompanying salads were a massive let down, apart from that what a great place to eat. I will definitely be going back.

The service was great. The staff attentive, friendly and helpful. The steaks were only average however. Two of is had rib eye and they were cooked very well indeed. Unfortunately they had quite a bit of gristle in them which tends to put you off. The main course calamari was too much for me though. It was an enormous plate of calamari in batter and that was it apart from a bowl of chips. Too much of the same. I got bored eating it without anything else.

This pub was recommended by numerous people because of the steak. It was quite hard to make a reservation as they are continuously fully booked at the weekends. It is indeed all about the steak. You have a choice of sizes and cuts. Not a standard steak meal. As the steak comes out on its own, separate chips and a side salad. If you love steak you must give to try. It is a very old country pub. Staff are very friendly. Desserts, delicious. Interesting!

I thought the food at the George Inn was lovely and reasonably priced . I throughly enjoyed my lasagne and my husband also enjoyed his burger - definitely not just your standard ‘pub grub’.

With melt in the mouth steaks and many other delicious items on the menu you will not be disappointed if you dine at the George. A warm friendly atmosphere and fantastic team of staff means you don't have to wait long to be served and and it's always with a smile! So pop in for a drink with friends or book a table to eat, I can whole heartedly recommended this super village pub and will definitely be returning.

A great night out in a truly friendly village pub. The food is always superb and cooked to perfection and last nights meal was no exception. Coupled with friendly staff and great service The George is an exceptional pub and a real asset to the village of Middlezoy and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Just had a fantastic meal with my friends. The service was great, the bar and table staff were superb, and the landlord and landlady were as engaging as ever. There were 6 of us dining and another 3 friends joined for drinks later, all were looked after in sterling fashion.

The welcome was warm and very genuine.

Visited this horrible little pub for a drink but left mid drink because the landlady is such a horrible unkind judgmental Scrooge. If your looking for a place that has no Christmas spirit at all this is the hovel for you, Scrooge must drink here. This has to be the countries most unwelcoming pub. With so many lovely pubs in the area be sure to avoid this one...

Top class food, well presented, friendly service and a good village pub atmosphere. Our party of four each tried something different from the menu and we all thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. My steak and kidney pie almost too much to eat and there was no skimping on the quality of the beef. No shortage of quality or quantity with the other meals, sole, lamb and sirioin steak. At the upper end of the price range for pub food but as they say, you get what you pay for. Many thanks to the girls who served us, always with a smile and for their patience as we did dither a while over our menu selections. We will return.

Called here for an evening meal during half term. The welcome you get and staff are second to none. The ambience inside the pub is great. A lovely pub that you will definitely have to book for a meal, we booked in April and just about got in for the evening meal. Most of us had the rib-eye steak, which was truly amazing. The prices are very reasonable and they do have guest beers on occasions.

Well firstly I received a great telephone reception when i phoned to book a table, really positive and friendly. Booked on the basis of some word of mouth reviews so thought we would give it a try. Really pleased we did - what a lovely, warm and friendly pub with a great atmosphere and just the friendliest staff. And the food did not disappoint. Good hearty pub grub, lovely quality food and really good portions. We had the cheese ploughmans with chips and ham, egg and chips - hearty basics which are easy to get wrong, but were absolutely lovely. And i had the treacle sponge with icecream - the softest sponge i have ever had and really lovely and treacly with a good size scoop of icecream. The cider and wine was also lovely. Great value, and great quality - we will definitely be back and looking forward to trying other meals from the menu (which had a really good selection of meals, something for everyone)

We had such a good meal here, highly recommend it. Staff are friendly, decor quaint and very English pub just what you would expect. Toilet facilities are clean, lovely outdoor are for predinner drinks. A must can’t rave enough about the fantastic meal

We have eaten here regularly over the years as it’s an all round great experience. Where do I begin? The service is friendly and professional. The food is always served promptly and never disappoints. The dining room is very smart and comfortable and the bar side also used for eating is my personal choice as it’s got a lovely atmosphere, spacious. Booking ahead is advised as it’s grown in popularity and busy Wednesday through to Saturday when their evening meal service is offered. Some of our family and friends rate the steaks here as the best they’ve ever had. I can’t recommend the George Inn Middlezoy anything other than Exceptional.

The food in this pub has a good reputation and we have been twice. The first visit was very good the second less so. My beef pie was very good but my wife's peri peri chicken was dry and on the mean side. She had the same dish on our first visit but was not impressed by what was served up on the second occasion.

Without doubt the best steak ever, a great pint of ale and great customer service that was filtered down from the wonderful owners to the bar and waiting staff. They made my two year old boy feel a real part of the family which isn’t always easy in a restaurant at peak time. I couldn’t praise them enough. Food, drink, customer service.......the whole package, not to mention the wonderful homely feel to the place. A must go to place for anyone in the vicinity!! George Inn, you should be very proud!

Our second visit here having been with friends a few months earlier. We went with four friends who had never been to the George but were keen to visit after our recommendation. All of us had steak (5 sirloin and 1 fillet). All of us commented on how perfectly cooked and tender our steaks were. They really were absolutely top quality and delicious. My sticky toffee pudding dessert was sublime! The staff were polite, attentive and made sure we had a quality experience. Superb steaks and quality customer service from the George. Highly recommend and we'll be eating there again.

What a pleasant surprise, my expectations weren't high, but when we walked into the Pub it was really really nice, we enjoyed a fantastic steak and good beer, service was fantastic and freindly, we will definitely be back. We were lucky to get a table as didn't have a booking (Sat night), well worth the trip and booking in advance.

This is our third trip to the George and hopefully more to come. It is a “must have” when visiting our good friends in the UK. Hands down best steak ever. Stilton cheese sauce to die for. Feel like old friends every time we visit. Thanks so much.

Have been here a couple of times now and can't wait to come back again. The steaks are amazing, they really don't need anything else on the menu as they are so good (there are other choices if you don't eat steak, but if you don't eat steak you should still try steak, because steak is goooood!).

Went here last night with friends from work. Cosy, warm atmosphere. You can choose what size Steak you desire. I opted for a 20oz sirloin. And it was the best Steak I've had. I highly recommend. Homemade cheesecake for dessert which was absolutely stunning. I will definitely be going again.

Have been going to the George on and off for years, but more so recently due to relocation. Everything you could want from a proper pub - great beer, food, atmosphere, staff and customers. Couldn't speak more highly of the steaks either; give them a go, you won't be disappointed.

We went as a family group of 8. Prebooked and glad we did as the restaurant was full. We can see why!! The steaks we the best we have all EVER had!! Just perfect. The service was great and you can tell they are very passionate about serving great food. Kids meals were lovely - really big!!

Went out on her birthday. They don't seem to do starters. They cook a lovely steak I had a 12 oz ribeye. It was lovely and cooked perfectly as was her's and she likes her steak blue. Difficult to do well but they did.You can get big steaks too someone at the next table had a 30z sirloin. Puds were Ok rather than great but adequate.

We ate here on Saturday 09/09/2017. Opening at 7pm, in we went for the first time (for 5 of us), 2 others had been previously. Not disappointed at all, apart from the fact that they were running out of food, but when it is this good, its not surprising. I had the rump of lamb which was delicious (we had the last of the 3 lamb dishes), finishing off with the South African Kahula milk shake!! Crikey, that was good too! My son and my partner both had the half roast chicken, my son finishing off with the Toblerone cheesecake - he said it was the best he'd ever had (now that's good coming from him) and Sue had the last remaining raspberry cheesecake - lovely and creamy. I would recommend pre-ordering and I will be looking at doing this for our next visit - YES I will have to return, as I want to try the ostrich!! Staff very friendly and South African landlord too. I gave it a four star rating only because they were running out of choices, but as I said - pre-order and next time I know that my choice will be there - we just didn't know this, even though 2 of the party had been there before (they could have told us). Atmosphere was really nice.

We have had several really excellent meals here and we don't want you to come here and make it even more difficult to book a table! They are very successful because they work really hard to do what they do at the highest standard. There are no starters and a short pudding menu, the main attraction is the perfectly cooked high quality meat and fish, they also do pub favourites and they don't put a foot wrong. I never eat steak out usually as I am very fussy about how it is cooked, I risked it here and it was faultless. It's not posh, it's not Michelin starred it's good honest food made with skill and love.

I visited The George Inn on recommendation when staying in Othery a couple of years ago, and always promised myself that I would visit it again, as the steak was like I had never tasted before, anywhere in the world.I was not disappointed on my return, or that should be 'returns' as we booked tables on the Friday and Saturday nights, as we had the 12oz Lamb Rump on the Friday, and the 16oz Rump Steak on the Saturday.I have to say, these have to be the best two meals I have had this year to date, and bearing in mind we have been to hotels and restaurants in Holland, Austria and Spain, and we have been on an RCI Cruise, that puts this recommendation right up there.

Went for a friend's birthday meal. Very friendly helpful staff. Food was absolutely beautiful. One of the best steaks I have ever had. Amazing service will definitely be returning for more lovely food.

We had booked already as we heard it gets very busy as we were recommended by several friends. Once we arrived we were seated at our table and the waitress took our drink orders, we did not have to wait long at all and were impressed with the fast service on drinks and food.We were recommended the steaks by our friends and tempted by the reviews on Trip Advisor. They were nice however, for the price I did expect them to be considerably better than what I received. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it and we still had a lovely evening.I like that the meals were delivered personally by the chef as it gave it an extra welcoming touch. I hope to come back to visit soon and try a different dish as it is very local to where we live. Thank you George Inn!

This was the best steak I have ever tasted the atmosphere was friendly the food was amazing and the staff were brilliant. I would highly recommend a visit to This pub the chef and owner were extremely good coming out checking if the food was ok you don't get that much these days . And the ladies were lovely. Please take a visit to this lovely homely pub and just taste there food you will be in love.

Lovely meal at The George, a friendly pub with excellent beer. The George was recommended while we were staying at Windmill retreat and was perfect for an evening stroll across the fields behind the village but only a 5-10 min walk back on the quiet road thro the village. The George was closed Monday but served drinks on Tuesday. We booked a table the morning of our visit on Thurs. the food was lovely - large portions, high Quality meat, fresh vegetables and delicious puds. Wine and Prosecco by the bottle or variety of glass sizes. All great value for money with friendly staff. Definitely recommend this pub.

I have been to this restaurant several times and always been pleased with what I had. I am vegetarian and there are a number of good things on the menu that I can eat. Staff are friendly and the service was quick.

Food fantasic, great atmosphere and the staff are very professional. Been quite a few times you do have to book well in advance. I would definitely recommend a visit for a tasty menu .

Not only do we get excellent food but the service from all the staff and Land lord and lady is second to none. I suggest a visit on the last Sunday of the month for....BINGO!! Its the best Sunday night entertainment you could wish for.

The George Inn is one of those places where your dining experience is all about you. It's completely relaxed and the staff are welcoming and unfailing in making sure the quality of your time at The George is first rate. The food? From succulent sea food and whole Sea Bass to marvellous steaks, I've tried to describe the quality but failed to do it justice. In the end there's only way to find out! So, we've taken guests and friends there. My family have grown up with The George. We've visited plenty restaurants in our time but there's always one place for sure, that we return to. You don't just eat at The George. You experience The George!

This pub is always the one youd seek log fires wonderful food and always welcome.I am a local but id advise anyone to pop in caus the welcome and food are second to none. Apparently a vegan gave a bad reveiw i was there on that day and can honestly say the pub was busy and lovely. Perhaps town people dont know how lovely country life is

We met as a party of 17 to celebrate a birthday. The food was exceptional. It all arrived hot. I had the steak and kidney pie which was tasty and great food (although not quite a pie but a casserole with a separate puff pastry top). The portion size was very good and a good fresh salad. The cheese board was again exceptional - 5 cheeses that filled the plate and not just fresh out of the fridge. The waitressing staff were very attentive and full of smiles. They were remarkably welcoming. Beer and drinks were spot on. Cost and atmospheric bar with a separate dining room with good decor. Would definitely recommend .

Lovely village pub with food to die for, Ate here last night the pub it's shelf was very welcoming and friendly as we got seated and started making our choices the chef recommended the tuna steak which 2 of our party ordered and to sum it up in 1 word amazing is what they came up with. Myself I had the Sirlion steak with I can only describe as 12oz of pure pleasure. but this wasn't just about the food the service was also very efficient and pleasant this pub is a real treasure And I recommend it as a must.....

we had a lovely friendly reception when we arrived, the bar staff could not do enough for us, there was a slight delay on the food as the booking before us all had large steaks, this was no issue as we were happy to chat but the landlady was very concerned and sent us out hot bread to keep us going. When the food arrived it was well worth the wait, it was one of the nicest steaks i have ever had, it looked amazing when it arrived on the plate and the vegetables just made the meal. We cant wait to go back again because nothing else will ever match this meal.

The sound of the bell from the nearby church was still ringing 2 o'clock as we entered this nice old but empty pub for something to eat. Sadly, the otherwise friendly landlady dashed our hopes as she said that they stop serving food at 2pm. Really! only in England could this happen. We were staying at the nearby Windmill Retreat and walked to the pub for lunch. We were welcomed like old friends by the landlord and the lovely locals at the bar. The pub is cosy, friendly and full of charm. The lunch menu was brought to us and the landlord could not have been more helpful. The food was really nice and very reasonably priced. It was really delicious. The landlord then gave us directions for a nice post-lunch walk. This is one of those perfect English country pubs.

The most memorable thing about The George is that they serve the best steaks I've tasted anywhere, only Nero's steak house in Caesar's Palace and the Regent of Fiji rival it. This is why my brother hates it. He can't get here very often and now he can't order steak anywhere else, because he knows it will be a disappointment. Steak aside, all of the food is delicious. The George pulls off the difficult double of being both a superb village local and a foodie destination. I could go on, but the Sticky Toffee Pudding is about to send me to sleep!

Staying in Middlezoy for a few weeks with a friend we decided to try the food at the local pub. We had been out walking at kilve so we were ready for a good feed & this pub didn't fail to satisfy. We were met & served by the loveliest friendly staff. The food was exceptional & reasonably priced. Warm & tasty food in a very warm & cosy pub. I would strongly recommend this venue to anyone driving from Street to Taunton to take a detour through Middlezoy & visit The George .....It won't disappoint. & I certainly hope to try other options on their menu before I return to Ireland ☘️x

Car park at rear. Check availability as very busy and we couldn't get a reservation for the Friday or Saturday and the pub has various opening days/serving hours. Popped in for a quick visit as we were staying in the area. This is a warm friendly local where we sat laughing and chatting at the bar. We were welcomed and treated so well by Candice, Graeme and the rest of the staff. The food was amazing. The service was 5*. Trust the staff to guide you on what to try. Food cooked to order and size preference. My partner ordered the lamb on recommendation and I was encouraged to try the steak rarer than I usually order. Graeme listened to my reservations and encouraged me to give it a try. Food was hot on arrival and it was even cooked with one end medium/well and the other end rare/medium so I could taste the difference! Verdict: I have been converted! All of it was one of the best seasoned meals we've had and my partner said it was the best lamb he'd tasted. The vegetables and peppercorn sauce was superb. The homemade cheesecakes were also great but definitely recommend the lime and coconut cheesecake, also one of the best I've tasted. Our eyes were bigger than our bellies but you really won't want to leave a morsel! Highly recommend.

We stayed in Middlezoy to celebrate my friends 30th. The owners of this beautiful place are friendly and so welcoming. The food is fresh, affordable and you hardly have to wait. As a big group this pub was perfect the owners and staff are so friendly welcoming and attentive we went back several times during our week stay. The food, beer and bingo is definitely worth a visit! We loved this place and will definitely return a must visit pub in Middlezoy! X

Its a cold miserable Thursday in January we have both finished work late and decided to treat ourselves to a meal out. We call the George to see if they have a table available to our luck we take the last table in the bar. We arrive at 7.30 we walk in the front door and into the bar where we are met with the warmth of the crackling open fire and then a hearty welcome from the landlord - drinks ordered we are shown to our table. We have a look at the comprehensive menu which caters for all appetites, we were both torn on what to have but after seeing several steaks be delivered to fellow diners we both go for the steak. The lady comes over to take our order it turns out you can order the sirloin any size you wish and is sourced from a farm just 5 miles away - being a steak lover i went for a 16oz and my partner an 8oz steak both being offered with 3 types of potato and either salad or veg side. The steaks arrived and you can see why these are so popular - a beautiful glaze covers a perfectly cooked steak, chips crisp and piping hot and then the veg side of cheesy leaks carrots and peas is the perfect partner to a beautiful steak. The landlord comes over halfway through the meal to check all is ok and offers a warmer on my larger steak if required a nice touch in my opinion. Savouring the last bite of the steak I'm still unable to work out exactly whats in the glaze and so when the lady returns to take the plates i ask what it is - chefs secret I'm told not even his wife knows. Ill be returning just to sample the steak again!! We finish our meal sharing a raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake served with honeycomb ice-cream which again is divine. We both sit back nice and full and soak up the bubbly atmosphere of this beautiful country pub and chat to a couple of locals as if they were old friends.Cannot thank everyone at The George enough for a fantastic meal and evening.

Arrived at ten minutes to seven which was we thought right for the time booked. Whole place in darkness until dead on seven lights came on. My wife fell down on a step from the car park into a dark corridor to gain entrance. We were shown through the now crowded bar into the dining room. Service was prompt but the menu unexciting. Our son enjoyed the rib-eye steak, but the steak in the steak and ale pie was tough and inedible, with a ring of puff pastry just placed on the top! Two people had sole, but were disappointed as on the web side they were both looking forward to the salmon advertised but not available.

We visited in the George on Thursday. Having spoken to Graham on the phone when booking we were delighted to find the food was as fantastic as his and Candice's hosting. We have travelled around and this place is a beautiful hidden secret which we will go back to. This place is 5 star for a pub, food service and hosting. Even got some Biltong for friends.... Book if you going! Gets busy.

It's home from home for us steak lovers! Graeme and Candice offer up sizzling, tasty and morish steaks on-call. Never been disappointed .... eaten there regularly and end up bloated ..... oh, and a little tipsy ..... every time! Great work all and thanks.

Food was excellent, a little pricey. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is very traditional and locals are friendly.

On Friday 8 July 2016 I ate at The George as part of a large party. The organisation of Graham and his staff and of course my sister in law who sorted out the table layouts, was flawless. Oh and the food. Despite catering for a large group the food was delicious and well cooked. A job well done.

This was our third return in under a year to the charming village of Middlezoy,staying just down the road at the lovely Windmill Retreat. The retreat owner Nick was constantly praising and recommending this pub to us for a meal,so we finally took the plunge......and boy was it worth it! The owners, along with their staff are a friendly,efficient and attentive team. The food was unbelievable, steaks to die for ( my husband and I both ordered the steaks) and the ambience was a lovely traditional quaint country pub. A fantastic way to culminate our anniversary celebrations. Cheers guys, we will be back!

The most welcoming country pub we have ever visited on holiday, by the end of our stay in the village we were treated as locals! Graham and his staff were excellent, the beer and whisky great and the food we had was all superb quality. The steak in particular was some of the best we have ever tasted. Without doubt this is a hidden gem in Somerset. We Shall return!

We came here with our friends mark and Debbie for marks birthday meal , they have been reccomending this pub to us for ages and I cannot believe we have been missing out for so long ,Lovely welcoming hosts and the pub is really homely , great waiting staff , attentive and knowledgeable .I had the duck breast with the homemade chips and veg which was incredible , my partner had the squid and he said it was the best he has ever tasted and our friends steaks were perfectly cooked and melted in the mouth .Thankyou so much guys you have something very special and we cannot wait to return xx

We had the pleasure of eating at the George Inn four years ago and when a trip back to Somerset to visit friends was planned the very first thing I did was ask them to make a reservation. Being from San Francisco we have the opportunity to eat at some of the finest restaurants but hands down this is the best steak I have ever eaten. I appreciate Graeme's (the owner) hesitance to cook any fine meat medium well but he masterfully prepared all of our meal (rare to med-well) perfectly. I had fond memories of the stilton cheese sauce and it did not disappoint. Unfortunately it does not come bottled.There is nothing better than sharing a stellar meal with good friends and new acquaintances in an environment that exudes intimacy but a welcoming friendliness. The staff were great. Candace and Graeme were great host. If all this wasn't enough I had the best honeycomb and ginger ice cream for dessert. Already looking forward to my next trip back.

We live nearby so visit often. The food is always excellent. I always mean to have something other than steak, but they are so good I can never resist. Always tender and perfectly cooked. Companions have chosen other things from the menu and never been disappointed. The puddings are also good, especially the home made cheesecake. Décor is smart country pub. It's very unlikely to get a table without prior reservation - which says it all really.

Enjoyed our visit here. Very generous portions. Lack of starter menu, but it turned out we didn't need starters! Staff very polite and efficient. Will be back.

Best steak I have had. Rare but no blood on plate. Whole table of eight left satisfied and content. Well done. Would highly recommend but book early.

We were a group of 8 staying for the weekend in the village and The George was recommended. We would recommend it too. First to the food. 5 of us had steak ranging from rare to well done. They were all perfectly cooked and superb. Others had Calamari, Steak & Kidney Pie or vegetable Lasagne again all excellent. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant but as it says on the web site you do need to book in advance.
