Excellent service food and atmosphere. Staff were very helpful and the Inn is comfortable and homely. There is a small beer garden at the front, which was nice to sit in for a while to enjoy a rare glimpse of sun, and a car park with plenty of room. All round, it was a great place to stay and eat. The only one piece of feedback I'd leave is that the only normal milk in the place (when we were there anyway) was full fat. We have only drunk skimmed for years so full fat is like adding cream, so had to drink coffee and tea black for breakfast and didn't bother in the room. If we'd known we'd have brought our own. Not a big problem but it doesn't seem too much trouble to have some skimmed or semi skimmed milk available. Anyway, we will definitely be staying again to meet up with friends, as its a great venue with excellent staff, but we'll bring our own milk next time.

We came for Sunday lunch and had 2 roast chicken meals plus cauliflower cheese. I stressed that I had to avoid leeks and they were quite good about it. Even came back and advised me that there would be leeks in the gravy (why on earth does one put leeks in gravy?), so they gave me a separate jug of gravy instead of pouring it over the whole meat, veg and other things. Just as well. I didn't like the leek gravy much and left most of it after trying a bit. The chicken and veg were nice. The cauliflower cheese could have been a bit more cheesy, but was quite OK. The atmosphere in the inn is very friendly. Draught ale OK, not much choice but OK. Everything was quite nice, but not super-fantastic, I would say. Would come again, but there are other places in Somerset that are perhaps a tad better.

Perfect cosy family pub! Extremely clean inside with beautiful gardens. The pub has a lovely warm decor and lots of space between tables! The waitresses were extremely attentive and helpful, with drink and food orders coming quickly. The roast beef me and my wife had as delicious, the gravy and beef were very tasty. All the veg was good and seasoned lovely. The puddings, there were loads of choices, we had sticky toffee pudding and biscoff filled doughnuts which were to die for. Overall would highly recommended this pub to anyone! Best roast in Somerset for me ❤️

Not the first time I've stayed at the Bower Inn, but the first time organizing an event there, and having two dinners and breakfasts there in larger groups. It all went very well — the food was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, well appointed, and very quiet. The bed was cozy, and the peaceful atmosphere made it easy to unwind. I also loved the little touches, like the welcome cookies along with the coffee and cafetière facilities. This was our first visit to The Bower Inn and we were very pleased we booked to stay here! We were greeted warmly at the bar and shortly after, we were taken to our room. The room was just lovely. Four poster style bed, with a small lounge area which included a small sofa, TV etc. The bathroom was lovely too. Walk in rainfall shower, soft comfy towels and toiletries as well. Everything was spotlessly clean and in good order. We had booked online to have dinner in the restaurant. We were greeted by friendly, attentive staff. We decided to order the Beer Battered Haddock with thick cut chips. The food was well presented, all piping hot and the thick cut chips were delicious. The fish however….. where was the fish? We had to go on a ‘Hunt the Haddock’ mission! After cutting through the batter, which was very tasty, there was hardly any Haddock! The thinnest piece of fish ever! If you are going to put battered haddock on the menu, please give us some nice succulent white fish. Every mouthful consisted of more batter than fish. We then realised that when we sat at our table, why the couple at the next table, were in the process of handing back their haddock and chips and choosing another meal! Breakfast however, the following morning was delicious. We chose the Butcombe breakfast, again beautifully presented and piping hot. The staff were attentive to every need, welcoming and friendly. Would we stay here again? Yes, absolutely! A lovely location, very peaceful and we were made to feel very welcome. Perhaps not the Haddock next time, though! 🙂

We booked the Bower Inn for a Birthday Celebration for five of us. When we arrived, we realise we had been seated right next to the kitchen and serving area which felt very bright with the heat lamps from the kitchen and the constant noise. We asked if there was a possibility of being moved, this was welcomed with slight resistance but we were allocated a table on the other side of the pub, next to the toilets. We all ordered our food which was no problem, but then we were told that two of the items we had ordered had run out. We accepted that this couldn’t be helped as we were visiting in the evening after what I’m sure would’ve been a busy day. From here the food took a long time to arrive, and an equal amount of time between our starter and main meal. When it did arrive, the food was warm at most and of average quality. We had asked for water for the table on arrival and had to ask a further four times before actually going up and getting it ourselves from the bar. We chose the bower inn as we live locally and have visited before which was a much better experience, this time the staff seemed generally uninterested and like they couldn’t really be bothered to be there, the service was slow and in honesty felt like it was a little bit of an inconvenience to have to actually serve anyone. When it came to settling the bill, the member of staff actually suggested taking the service charge off which highlights that they themselves felt they hadn’t done a good job. Paying £145 for an average meal that we felt we could probably replicate better at home was a little bit hard to swallow especially as it was a birthday meal and a treat for our daughter. All in all a very disappointing experience with us wishing we had booked an alternative.

We stayed here as a stop off on the way to another location. It’s in a very built up residential area which we weren’t expecting as it looks rural on the website. The signage outside markets “boutique” bedrooms but our room was furnished with fairly basic decor. Attached is a picture of a hanging light bulb, untidy cables and a stark wall which was a bit of a shame. Having said that, the room was impeccably clean and there was a very nice little coffee station which was well received. The pub itself had a nice atmosphere with a lovely dual sided wood burner although would have been even better with comfortable seating in front of it. The pubs intention is definitely geared towards dining rather than having somewhere relaxing to enjoy a drink. We had some bar snacks that were tasty and breakfast was very well cooked and we really enjoyed that; classic breakfast food done really well. The staff were very friendly too especially the GM on Saturday night (08/02). Overall, it was … fine. I don’t think we will return as didn’t find it particularly good value for money but it was perfectly adequate to purpose.

A well appointed pub with plenty of character. My wife and I stayed there for a couple of nights: the room was spacious, comfortable and warm (January). The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. However, the food was a major disappointment. There seems to be an emphasis on quantity rather than quality, the presentation was poor as was the food. My wife said her steak was Wetherspoon standard. I did discuss this with the assistant manager, who apologised and didn't charge for the meals, which was appreciated- but I would much rather have had a good meal and paid. To be on the safe side on the second evening I opted for battered fish and chips. Equally disappointed. The chips tasted like frozen chips, the batter was far to heavy and don't recall tasting any fish. The manager was sympathetic and didn't charge for my meal, which was nice gesture but the food really made this a disappointing trip, nowhere near the standards we have previously experienced in Butcome pubs. To end on a positive note, the breakfast was fine and they have good cask beers.

It's the little things like the crockery is of a nice quality, all adds up to your experience I think. I have actually meant to try this way before now. Honestly, the best pub in Bridgwater by a long way. The food is sensationally good; the building exterior and interior are beautiful. The staff are really friendly, which you don't always find so that was really lovely. Honestly I cannot wait to become a returning customer. A bit gutted I didn't go sooner. Burgers, Steak and Apple Crumble are lovely. My only slight feedback is that the car park is very dark at night! I was delighted to see that The Bower was open for lunch on Monday. We were a party of 4 and had made a booking. We have been there several times before and always enjoyed it. Sadly, on Monday something was wrong. Everyone was very friendly but we waited ages for our food order to be taken and then waited 30 minutes for our food. Everything was delicious - beef burger, fish and chips, fish cakes and pork schnitzel - when it arrived. When paying the bill I asked about the service. Our server was very apologetic and said that there was only one chef in the kitchen that day. If only someone had told us that food would take a bit longer than normal we would have understood, instead of getting a bit disgruntled.

Staff helpful - especially when we could not find the kettle (it was in the wardrobe). Will stay here again when visiting family.

We stayed in the hotel on a deal which included an allowance towards Sunday dinner. Very busy and service, although generally friendly and helpful, was rather slow. Two dishes we chose were good, although not really memorable. The other was a roast beef "served medium rare" dinner, which arrived medium/well done, with everything piled on one plate, covered in gravy. To be fair, some slices of medium rare were brought to the table when we commented. Very disappointing, particular as we had a similar dish in another Somerset pub-restaurant, served as advertised, much more attractively, with vegetables and gravy separate, and for £7 less. We have eaten in 5 or 6 other Butcombe pubs, and unfortunately, this one did not match the atmosphere or the food quality of the others. Maybe the Sunday evening was not the best time to make comparison.

We played pub food roulette for four nights in the area before striking gold at the Bower Inn. Landlords across the UK please visit, learn and replicate.

Xmas dinner on 25th arranged by my daughter for 4 was quite costly appreciate Xmas staff costs etc but food not rated sadly. .My fish was under cooked, veg overcooked , presentation lacking. Starter very basic, again basic presentation. Dessert I took home but found inedible eaten here before and had no issue.

We went and did padel while we were staying in Brean and went into the restaurant. Brilliant Mon-Thurs 2 course with pot of tea £10. So we returned the Friday night for the full menu. A must if you are in brean

This small cafe really surprised me, food was fantastic and waitress was friendly. Jacket potato looked a bit different than usually, but it was delicious and what a astonishing vegetable soup. Must try! Ham in a sandwich was flavorful, perfect I might say!

we keep an eye on the specials board-and my wife always goes for the 'blue carbon' salt marsh beef-it is probably the best steak she has eaten. Beautifully cooked and she asks for plenty of fat - often restaurants seem to pre trim their steaks -not here- it arrives with an excellent amount still attached. I go for the mussels when they have them -they are beautiful -if they are not available -scampi and chips are always great. The prices are very reasonable indeed. The hot desserts finish the meal with the same quality.

Been here a few times now. First few times the menu was a bit quirky but cool and the food was the danglies, last time we went the menu was a bit more traditional but cool and the food was the danglies! (Spotting the recurring theme?)
