We popped in on the off chance this was dog friendly pub. It is a very dog friendly pub with excellent food. Great food, great music on the speakers, very friendly staff. A welcome treat. We will be coming here again. A good selection of Thatchers ciders. Good value for money as well. We were very happy. We will be back.

So impressed with the roast. Great veggie option and the staff are so accommodating. Been here a fair few times and standard always great.

We first visited approximately 5 years ago, we were pleasantly surprised, it was fresh & vibrant. Not so on this visit. Rather than the fresh pine, we were meant with dark grey austere paintwork, which benefit from a good dust. The dining furniture is showing considerable wear & tear, the chrome being dated. Staff are great, friendly & attentive, the food was tasty & enjoyable. Not sure we will dine there again.

We randomly picked this pub/restaurant out as it was on our way to Bristol Airport. We were all very impressed with food , ambiance & hospitality. The food was outstanding all for a reasonable price. The landlord was very convivial & made us very welcome. The curry was lovely & very generous as was all the food we ordered. The ploughman’s our friends had was the best I’ve ever seen . Pity this place isn’t close to us as we would be using this more often.

We took a chance as it was close to a beautiful walk. Without a doubt the best Vegetarian wellington around. All our roast dinners were cooked to perfection and full of flavour. Very friendly staff too, we will be back.

Landlord is very welcoming and genuine. You can feel the passion he has for this pub and the customers. Good selection of drinks. Nice to see supporting local businesses. Now the important bit...the food. The menu is just enough options for all. And what they do is impeccable. I used the words amazing to describe my beef cob french dip style. The hubby had ham, egg and chips...may be simple but with top quality produce and cooked perfectly you cannot ask for more. We will absolutely be returning in the near future.

My husband and I came here for the first time during our stay in Cheddar. Although the pub itself is dated and needs modernisation, it was reassuringly quiet and calm inside compared to the busyness of the restaurants in Cheddar Gorge. The staff were very polite and welcoming. The food was lovely. My husband had the ribeye steak and it was full of flavour and cooked to perfection. I had the vegetarian burger with a gluten free bun (I have a gluten intolerance) and fries. I did enjoy my food, the chips especially, but the burger wasn't amazing. I would have liked to have had more choice in terms of gluten free and vegetarian options. Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Star because the quality of the food is very good.

Not worth the detour. Unless you're a local you won't be served.

Came for a Sunday lunch on a whim and it was absolutely stunning! The roast was probably one of the best we’ve eaten out in the area, portions were of a very good size and meat cooked perfectly. Welcoming atmosphere and staff, would recommend and definitely go back!

Excellent spot for food and a drink Lovely garden area to relax in the sunshine and eat delicious food I unfortunately fell nearby injuring my ankle made it back to the pub where the owner kindly fetched me ice for my ankle and offered to drive me back to our campsite nearby. Very grateful

Solo visit today with the dog and my drone. Lovely welcome and a lovely sit in the garden for a while using the drone and being observed by Freddie with a pint Inside the staff were exceptionally friendly and I had amazing meal of Lamb Rump , with pressed Lamb and roasted vegetables Great couple of hours and will go again. Might take the Mrs !

Arrived at around 1345 Bar staff v friendly Would have changed a drink as we added to much lemonade to the wine. Carvery was excellent loads of meat and Veg All in all 10/10 well done team

Stopped here for lunch en route to the airport & couldn’t have been happier. Delicious, well presented food, much better than your average ‘pub grub’, more restaurant quality but at excellent value. Really friendly staff & great service. The only reason I put 3 stars for atmosphere is that it was really quiet as it was a Thursday but I imagine it gets busy at weekends. Definitely recommend!

Lovely pub, we visited for a late lunch on way to airport. Menu was typical pub grub with some specials daily. Food was delicious, very generous portion size and the most amazing chips. Delicious. Very friendly service too. Good size outdoor seating area away from the road. It was quiet when we visited so can’t comment on atmosphere in general but it was a lovely sunny day so we made use of the outdoor space. Will definitely re-visit.

Despite being local for many years, we hadn't eaten here before. We had vegetarian courses and the food was surprisingly good. Quite large portions - a bit too large really - and well cooked. The service from the dedicated young staff was a cut above. The decor wasn't really to my taste, reminding me of the eighties, but I'd be happy to eat here again.

Probably one of the best roasts I've eaten in a long time.. beautifully presented. Huge Yorkshire filled with meat. ( I had beef) . It's not a carvery but you don't go hungry.. generously filled plates of meat and crispy roast potato's. Separate sharing platter of other veg and the cheesiest cauliflower cheese.. individual pots of thick meaty gravy... its an absolute delight 😊 Plenty of free parking and helpful staff.. I'd give it 6 stars tbh.

My brother and I popped in to The Star for a bite to eat on the way back from Bristol Airport, encouraged by its many excellent reviews, and I'm very glad we did. The Butcombe Original ale was very welcome, the service was quick and friendly, and the food was simply superb, and quite reasonably priced. We will definitely return the next time we're passing.

Lovely Sunday Roast and friendly staff.

The Star at Star is our new favourite local. Absolutely brilliant menu, with the biggest, bestest ploughman's you're going to see and done well kept beers Dog friendly too. Recommended.

Stopped in here on the way back from Bristol airport to get some much needed food. I had a ploughman’s which was wonderful. My partner had ham, eggs and chips, which were also wonderful. I would highly recommend this pub for its food. It was late afternoon on a Saturday so it was quiet in there.

What an excellent find! We were looking for an evening meal and happened upon this gem. The host was very welcoming, the food was wonderful - we had a main, a pudding and drinks, and there's parking too. Highly recommended.

Excellent service with a smile and very attentive nothing was too much trouble. 3 of us had the turkey,leek and mushroom pie. Absolutely lovely and very big portions. We are definitely going back. We also had a pudding and a couple of coffees. Good value.

The minuet we entered a friendly young mam showed us to our table we were told everything was cooked fresh and if we wanted to make any slite changes they would be happy to do so. All six meals arrived at the same time, and everyone enjoyed their meal. The owner is obviously trying hard to make this pub work.

Celebration with 10 friends. Food order was very diverse but all arrived on time and together. Terrific atmosphere, clean and friendly.

Food was really nice, enjoyed it but the portion size wasn’t great!!! Need to up the portion size and I think more local people would use this pub if you did..

We went here for a family lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The food was excellent and the service was great. Really nice place and definitely recommend.

We were a family of 6 eating out for lunch. Delicious food, brilliant service. Genuinely blown away by the place. Can’t fault any of it. Reasonably priced as well.

We were going for a walk and we asked to book a table for Sunday lunch. We asked if we could park in the car park and they said absolutely fine. We turned up at 1:45 and they said everything is okay. Can we have the table we had three dogs as well they put us in an area that was absolutely lovely and clean. The food was incredible tasty, hot and lots of it. Cauliflower cheese to die for wood would advise anyone to try it as I think it had a bad reputation years ago but the new landlord has certainly changed it and we will be going again. This is the third time we’ve been here.

We visited here again for an early evening dinner and what can I say, absolutely lovely smart clean premises. Very good atmosphere and very friendly and polite and welcoming staff. The choice of meals are excellent and well priced. All of the food is absolutely delicious and first class. Well worth a visit and I would definitely recommend The Star 🌟.

Cannot recommend this pub enough! My husband and I visited Saturday evening with our 3 year old for dinner on a last minute weekend away. Despite the fact a huge party was taking place in the function area, which would have understandably taken up a lot of the staffs time, the service was excellent. The food was amazing, even my fussy toddler loved it and prices were very reasonable. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The landlord went above and beyond to make sure we got home safe when we weren’t able to get a taxi. We will absolutely be visiting again! 10/10

Went in for Sunday Lunch. First time for a long time. Has had a major refurbishment ongoing but the atmosphere and surroundings are much improved Sunday lunch was the best we have had in a while. Recommend to anyone without a doubt 👍

VEGAN pub meal with restaurant service, yummy homemade veg burger on a bun with vegan mayo, chips and generous side order of broccoli spears etc. Affordable and simply delicious after a long journey, why cook at home? Highly recommend.

Warm, friendly and helpful. Food sublime. The Star staff went out of their way to provide a exceptional vegan option for us. We had empty plates, full stomach's and smiles all round. We tipped well because our waiter could not be more genuine and appropriately engaging. If you like great food, you will find out on your visit. ENJOY🤤

Thought we would pop in to see what has changed since it's under new management. Ordered the Mushroom Risotto and Tagliatelle which were both delicious. It is a welcome menu given that most of our local pubs have now been taken over by Butcombe and all offer the same stuff, a really varied menu too, so something for everyone. Super fresh ingredients and great service. We will be back soon!

We stopped here by chance having decided toget off the congested M5 on our way to Cornwall. What a good decision! Julie had what she described as the best ploughmans she ever had. There were 3 different types of cheese (cheddar,brie,stilton), ham, a pork pie,a delicious small loaf, butter, salad,grapes,celery, coleslaw and chutney. It looked as good as it sounds. I had the turkey club with layers of turkey, brie, bacon, cranberry, tomatoes and lettuce. Delicious! To cap it all everyone was really friendly and efficient. We will be back!

Went for my Aunts 91st Birthday, all had Sunday lunch and it was brilliant. Aunt was a chef, so I was very apprehensive, whether it would meet her high expectations! And it did, she was very impressed, so we'll be going back. Highly recommend.

Well I wish I got photos. We had two ploughman's, a pig mac burger and a portion of tripled cooked chips. Amazing. Great staff who were super friendly. Was a great stop on our way back to Devon from Bristol Airport. If I had to say anything bad, it would be the lack of mobile signal to leave this review... they do have free WiFi but you have to tap like a mad person to find the hidden checkbox to agree to the T&Cs to connect. Will be coming back to this great pub for sure.

We came from Weston to visit this pub as we had heard great reviews, and it didn't not disappoint, a great menu, along with some amazing specials, we did all 3 courses and couldn't fault any even our 6 yr and 8 yr old very...

Have always liked the look of the Star on our way to and from the airport so decided to have some dinner there while waiting to pick up someone from the airport. As an attempt at a gastro pub it almost gets there with simple food presented well. Staff were attentive and a pleasant atmosphere only disappointment was the lack of signal and WiFi that didn't work, important if you need to keep in touch.

The Star fully deserves 5+ stars. The change since Tonks and Cas took over is phenomenal. We have eaten here for lunch, evening meal and today had Sunday lunch. There was not one thing we could fault in fact one of the best Sunday lunches...

8 of us came here for a meal after seeing pictures of the food posted on social media. And wow we were not disappointed. The menu was incredibly varied with a whole heap of stuff we wanted to try. There was a good selection of drinks and the service was absolutely impeccable and extremely friendly. The food came out and looked just stunning and tasted even better. This is our new favourite spot in the area and I would absolutely recommend you try it.

One word , Amazing Sunday roast , probably 1 of the best roast dinner's I have had in a long while. Had the beef and was totally delicious, wife had the turkey and was very satisfied as well , totally stuffed after and couldn't fit...

OMG the best ham eggs and chips I've ever had , proper butchers ham and lovely dark yellow eggs and chips my mother would be proud of .

We stopped off to see what all the fuss was about. The place looks great and very welcoming after its well though out refurb. We had a great meal (steak and duck). Nowhere is cheap any more, so it's even more important to look for quality in a nice environment. Every box ticked. Well done tonks and cat.
