Most expensive Cornish pasty for £8 while it is £4.5 in other shops around. It was no better than supermarket ones.

Incredible food - everything we had was homemade and utterly delicious - and everything we didn't eat looked equally so! Took us all ages to order - we just wanted to try everything. Seriously good food. Even our dog was happy. The cafe was extremely busy and we were a large party - the staff were all amazing, so patient and friendly. I dont know how they stayed so happy tbh! Would highly recommend and will definitely re-visit when back in the area.

The lunchtime snack we had here was commendable. Very tasty soup, generous portions of bread and a very tasty, healthy vegetarian sandwich. It's in a very pleasant position by the river. We're not very keen on dogs in cafes but understand that the cafés position in the Gorge means dogs are likely to be present.

We stopped here for lunch to take a rest whilst on our hike. Delicious ploughman's! However it's super busy in there, so it's one to eat in and then leave (no need to hang around too long with such a busy restaurant). The waitress forgot our cutlery at first and then brought us two forks, so for sure it's a busy mess in there service-wise!

Top notch food served in a clean café, set in dramatic surroundings. We had coffee and cake, and to be fair the sizes of both portions weren't huge, but by the time we'd finished them we were both satisfied. All the hot food being served looked fantastic too. Other cafés in Cheddar appeared to be mainly of the old school variety (nothing wrong with that), but if you prefer somewhere more contemporary then here would be a good choice. On the right hand wall as you enter, there are framed photos of celebrities who have been here - which is worth a quick look at.

We visited the Cafe Gorge for brunch today, it was a little bit hectic inside as the menus are hanging on a wall by the fridges. To look at the menus you are in everyone’s way. As a suggestion our menus or QR readers on the tables to stop masses of people at the counters. The food we had was average, I had a vegetable pasty, which was cold in the middle (it was busy so I didn’t complain!) the cheese straws we had were burnt. My husband’s Somerset breakfast was average.

The cafe itself looks lovely and the staff are welcoming however the food is fairly disappointing and overpriced. The cheese twists were overcooked and the quiche, coleslaw and pasty tasted bland. When it came to the salad I had to laugh as it came with half of a tomato (not chopped up) and quarter of a cucumber (also not chopped up) the salad leaves were nice and fresh though. All in all not terrible but not good either.

Really tasty food & good sized portions. We had the gorge club toasty, and Ham & Cheese toasties which have loads of flavour and available on a range of breads, a side salad with a lovely dressing and homemade coleslaw. Probably the best toastie i've had. The milkshakes are good too. Customer service was good too & dog friendly. A bit pricier than your usual toastie from a cafe but well worth it. The ploughmans looked good as well - the next table over had one and I think i'll be trying this on the next visit.

Pretty disappointing. During our trip to cheddar we visited this cafe having a hankering for a cheese toastie. We’d seen the cafe featured on Adam Richman’s new show and were very keen to get our hands on it. However when I asked at the till for it the staff were quick to say that they weren’t doing toasties. Although a bit miffed I opted for a cheddar cheese pasty, since we were in cheddar I felt it criminal to miss out on a cheddar dish. Sadly again there were none left. Although it was only 2.30 on a Friday afternoon we understood, we left the cafe quickly and nipped across the road for a cheese board at Lion Rock tea rooms. We theorised that maybe they had ran out of cheddar for the toasties on this early Friday afternoon or maybe the culinary expert competent enough to make such an intricate dish had been taken ill. Either way we were pleased that the afternoon ended at tea room across the road!

Visited this cafe on Saturday 15th June. They have indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of space. The have pastries and cakes on view when you walk in and they all look fresh and tasty. We ordered the rare bit toasty and the salt beef with rare bit toasty with a side off coleslaw. When they arrived they were huge. Beautiful door step crusty bread and a generous amount of delicious fillings with a side salad and an onion chutney. This was one of the best toasties we have ever eaten and the service was quick and friendly. We also had a slice of lemon cake and coffee and walnut cake, again fresh and good. The total for food and drinks was £40, not cheap for a sandwich, cake and coffee but thank you for filling up those toasties to the top!! 😊 . We made sure we complimented the service and food before we left as they were working hard on a busy Saturday x

We went here yesterday for brunch, found a table to sit on outside, gorgeous views! I went in and ordered our food, paid, and went back to our table outside. First came out my iced coffee, the young man said is that everything you've ordered, I said no we've got a breakfast sandwich, a sausage sandwich and a latte to come, he looked puzzled and said oh ok, and walked off! Then a girl came over and said we seem to only have an order for an iced coffee...do you want to order food? I said well I've just been charged over 20 pound so I hope our food is ordered, then suddenly our food arrived while she was still stood there looking puzzled! Started eating our food...the egg in my husbands breakfast sandwich was like a lump of rubber...sausages were nice though, then eventually my husbands latte arrived, and the woman said it seems you didn't pay for this latte so can you pay for it on your way out!! Also after finishing eating, we got told to put my elderly tiny dog on the ground! Not only were we outside, the tables were already covered in garden debris and bits of food, and my dog was sat on MY lap, not touching anything to do with the cafe!!! A very chaotic uncomfortable brunch! Altogether not the best experience I'm afraid!

Such a lovely location for a cafe. We passed by this on our way to the caves and wanted to try it out. We ordered the Sandwich and Toasted bread with salted beef which was okay. Felt like it’s too much bread. However, we haven’t had the chance to try other sandwiches. The milkshake was nice tho, creamy and tasty. Just a bit disappointed to one of the staff which we asked to clear the table for us, said she will ask someone to do it, the next thing- our order came still with dirty plates on the table. Felt sad for the young man who had no other choice but to take them while serving foood.

Cream tea was good and the pies are really good! Unfortunately their 'dog friendly ' policy isn't exactly 'friendly'.... We've been told that I can't have my 9 month old puppy in my own lap due to their policy and from hygienic point of view, however the lady on the table in front of us had her schnauzer in her lap and she wasn't told off - it was inconsistent and rude not to follow their own rules, won't mention the tone was far away from friendly. If you're a dog owner I will recommend to consider one of the other many dog friendly places there

I visited with 2 friends & we all had them with various fillings but all including the best cheddar cheese in the gorge. Poor service , bland food, overpriced …… We had a special trip planned today and thought the Gorge cafe would be a compliment to our visit to Cheddar, we entered the cafe which was reasonably quite , we picked up our chilled drinks and worried in the queue to order food, we received no acknowledgment from staff while we were waiting, then to my disbelief the person behind was served ahead of us, eventually a member of staff asked us what we wanted and we ordered two cheddar quiches and salad and two treacle tarts which came to a very hefty price of over £40.00!! We waited patiently for the food , one treacle yard was practically slung on the table by a surly female staff member we had ordered two so yet again I was stood in the queue ! The quiche came out swamped by some rather nasty cheap lettuce , no salt pepper or condiments were offered so yes you guessed it back up I the queue again. The quiche was poor quality very eggy and had very little flavour or seasoning, needles to say we did not enjoy the food and left a majority of it as we did with the tart which was equally as poor quality . Service and food disappointing, felt ripped of and annoyed with the less than attentive staff .

I’m still in awe at the food and service in Café Gorge. We popped in for a late lunch, having walked some of the Strawberry Line, so our group of 4 were in desperate need of refreshments. I opted for a Hullabaloo ginger beer - Absolutely delicious - While the others went for various coffees, all of which disappeared very quickly, as they were equally tasty. We all chose toasted sandwiches for lunch. Mine was a Café Club Toasty Sandwich and I can honestly say, hand on heart, that is the best sandwich I have ever eaten. The bread was not too thin, not too thick and perfectly toasted and crunchy. The filling… My mouth waters at the thought of it. Generous quantities of pastrami, cheese, gherkins, piccalilli… A symphony for the tongue. The side salad it came with was perfectly dressed and the chutney just right. My one regret is not having any room left for a slice of cake - So much choice, but not a chance I could manage a bite more. I will be back!

Have been here many times in recent years and always rated it very highly. Returning this week and there’s a distinct change in things which is not for the better. It is however still a very nice place to have a drink and a snack. The quiches look the same as before although we did not try them on this occasion but on visit one we smelt them cooking. ( smelt yummy) The cakes looked good and the chocolate torte and Victoria sponge were both really nice. Smaller portions though. Today I ordered the cream tea. It was extremely disappointing. The scone was ok but no longer made fresh on site. Understandable but not as nice as previous times where they looked and tasted homemade. It’s described as coming with fresh strawberries/ strawberry - mine did not! Jam - ok but nothing special. A cream tea should feel like a treat. This was underwhelming. Really disappointed in this visit. Time to try somewhere else.

Wandering through Cheddar, fancied a few simple drinks on a hot day. Very inexperienced staff, ongoing confusion over food for other guests. Nevertheless how hard can 3 juices and an iced coffee be? Well no glasses or ice ever arrived for juice, the iced coffee had an inch of syrup in the bottom of a latte glass with 5 tiny ice cubes floating on top. Possibly the worst iced coffee I have seen served. Sadly it wasn't busy, it wasn't a difficult order, what's worse is you tried to defend yourself like this was acceptable. Piss poor, avoid

Easy access, and plenty of room inside and out, accessibility parking nearby. Food is generally very good - although pastry was a little tough. Coffee too weak for my taste, and bitter.Needs improvement as it is a great location.

Cute little cafe in a lovely location, food was really good and staff were very friendly. Tarts were on the pricey side but very good and a nice treat when we got home! Oh and our dog was welcome 😊

Seven of us stopped in for lunch on a -surprisingly- busy Sunday in March, the staff were happy to accommodate us and were patient with our order. We sat outside with our dog and watched the world go by, entertainment provided by tourists and goats,...

We ate lunch here after walking the gorge. We had excellent toasties/hot sandwiches which came with a side salad. They also have a selection of local bottle conditioned ales. The dining area inside has large windows for a little view and there is a pleasant,...

Excellent, friendly cafe right by the gorge. Lovely fresh items on the menu, including cheddar sandwiches. Great cakes and pastries. Good tea and coffee. Looks great to sit outside, but it was raining when we came. Can highly recommend.

We popped in on the off chance this was dog friendly pub. It is a very dog friendly pub with excellent food. Great food, great music on the speakers, very friendly staff. A welcome treat. We will be coming here again. A good selection of Thatchers ciders. Good value for money as well. We were very happy. We will be back.

My boyfriend and I came here to The Cottage a few weeks ago on his bike. It's a gem of a bar in the lush hills with great service minded staff. Very good music for a nice chill. I think this might be our new favorite pub! See you soon.

We shared a meal here with colleagues. The location is great being on the outskirts of Bridgwater, and the building looks and feels like a 'proper' country pub, inside and out. Staff are friendly and efficient, and we all enjoyed our meals. Good selection of local beers and the food menu changes regularly.

Typically displaying that their heart and sole as a village Baker and despite being closed during the current lockdown situation they turned out on Good Friday and delivered free hot cross buns to villagers. These buns were welcome and deliciously bakery fresh. Thank you to you all.

Superb atmosphere, the best steak I’ve had in my life! (10oz fillet) chef was so down to earth and welcoming - showed us different cuts of steak and told us about their source. Went above and beyond for service - orders taken quickly and all staff friendly and polite. Felt a very cosy and happy little village pub. Will definitely be back for more steak and the fresh salad bowls that come with it! :) Thank you so much ☺️
