What an absolute joke. Me and my 7, 50 something mates were asked, not for proof of a covid Jab but proof of who we were?? WTAF is that all about? As far as I am aware at 22:15 on a Saturday night you do not need to prove who you are to go into a British public house! FFS, are we living in a communist state? So we went to The Squire instead and received a warm welcome without having to prove who we were!!

Racist bouncers. Apologised to us and said we were not allowed to enter their establishment at approx 10pm even though we had been there 3 hours previously and spent a considerable amount of money. Not being granted entry is usually ok if a justified reason but this bouncer had the confidence to say that we were not coming in for no other reason than he did not like our welsh accents. Not the first time this has happened in the greater Bristol area. Deep routed issues.

Barman was disrespectful when we told him we were exempt from wearing masks with the sarcastic comment “what BOTH of you!? Oh ok then” He Then asked us for track and trace info which I politely declined to provide. Said misinformed barman then told me I ‘had’ to provide it. I put him straight on MY rights. If you are going to have people enforcing GUIDLINES in this way you better at least make sure they know the basic facts. Finished our drinks quickly and left. Will never return. Incidentally we then went to the pub across the road where we were subjected to NONE of the above mask/data collection BS.

Although this bar is quite small there is still a good atmosphere especially when it’s full. There can sometimes be a bit of a wait for drinks when they are busy, but worth it.

This is a nice comfortable local pub which serves a good selection of beers and snacks. We dropped in for a drink and found the staff to be friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was a little quiet but this may have been due to it being only 630 pm.

We visited 1439 Cocktail bar for a gin tasting evening in September. The evening cost £10 per person and involved tasting 4 gins and making a gin cocktail. The bar is only small so has a limited number of people it can fit in (around 15 -20) so it is a very popular night and tickets sell out fast. The staff at the bar explained each of the gins, how they are flavoured and some facts about them. The girl presenting didn’t seem very confident and was reading very quickly off cue cards about each gin rather than being engaging, however we spoke to her throughout the night and she was very friendly did have a lot of knowledge about gin it’s a shame she wasn’t able to share it as effectively during the ‘presentation’. She told us which tonic each gin would be paired with and the garnish we should include. It was nice to try all the different types of gin and the different flavours made by the mixture of botanicals. Before the event I didn’t think I liked gin however through this I found it was the tonics I didn’t like therefore I substituted these tonics for lemonade. The cocktail we made was with Gin, Martini rosso, Cranberry juice, sugar water and a raspberry. We were told that it should have more than one raspberry but they didn’t have enough, which I felt was poor planning as the pack they were showing they came out of was from Tesco so they could have easily bought a second one. We were shown how to mix the cocktail and the measures of everything then left to our own devices while the staff circulated to check everyone was ok. To finish the night we were given a goody bag which was a bottle of tonic, some stirrers and a packet of thyme crisps. The event lasted 2 hours (7-9pm) and overall was great fun and I’d definitely recommend looking out for when they hold their next date. I know we will be!

Last night was our first trip to Chipping Sodbury in many years. After venturing in other pubs on the high street we ended up here. The lady behind the bar was so rude it was a joke. The barman who poured the beers got it wrong. We asked for 2 thatchers gold, 1 haze and a lager. He cans back with 3 gold and a lager. When I said to him about it he apologised and said he’d swap it. He obviously had to just run it by his boss, which was the rude woman, who came over and aggressively said you ordered the wrong drinks so it’s your own fault. I politely explained what had happened and she got all rude. Eventually after 5/10 minutes of arguing she reluctantly swapped it. This scenario really put a dampener on our evening and when we venture back to Sodbury we won’t be visiting here.

We looked for a venue for about 16 people for a lunch party. The warmth of their welcome at the George and their attention to our requirements were very encouraging. The room was just what we needed, so we decided to book there, The room was very pleasantly decorated for us, the menu offered was varied and interesting and they were able to include a few dishes from their a la carte. The food was excellent and served at the pace we wanted. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. All our guests (including a 4 year old) seemed to enjoy the occasion. We highly recommend celebrating at the George.

Improved a lot, lovely staff and venue fresh and friendly. Dance floor good on the weekend and nice to have the pub area separate and away from it all if you don't want to be a part of it. Frankie's kitchen serves lovely homemade food and would recommend to anyone. Nice pub to go to with either friends or family. Good place with a bit everything.

Wow what a difference since the bad old days, well since this time last year, light and airy, clean and friendly. New food menu is exciting, fresh and seemingly all homemade. We were a table of four who all had something different and all thoroughly enjoyed the food! Well done all concerned. Especially good to see a broad range of local real ales, noticed Uley breweries Pigs Ear is up soon, what a coup! CAMRA can't be far away! Good luck team George!

I made a last minute booking for 5 adults and 1 toddler on Saturday 20th July and the owner couldn't do enough for us. We were never rushed and while ordering our food she went out of her way to provide a sufficiently small portion of chicken and rice for the 2yr old. This is a very family friendly hotel/restaurant.The menu wasn't huge but it did provide a good choice to suit us.The smothered chicken was excellent and the beef curry was outstanding. The lemon and honey sponge is to die for,and the last word lies with our 2 year old grandson who (without prompting ) said " this is deeeelicious."

This place used to have a bad rep as a 'yoof pub' - especially on a Friday & Saturday night when bouncers had to be employed! We have visited several times since the George changed hands and it now a very attractive proper adult pub with good food (although the menu is slightly limited), quirky decor and furnishings, and really excellent and friendly service from all staff (even the Chef!). My husband particularly enjoys the '3 beer pint' - served in 3 small glasses in a wooden stand. We haven't yet tried the pretty covered courtyard seating area or the tea room but we intend to do so very shortly!Reccomended.

We went here with a Groupon voucher and it wasn’t expensive so my expectations weren't overly high, however I was appalled at how bad this was! I didn’t know it was possible to do a roast dinner this poor. I had the beef – three wafer thin slivers one of which was curled and dry at the end. One ‘roast’ potato, black on one side, insipid on the other. A couple of boiled potatoes and a bowl of grey (yes, grey) cabbage. The starter in all fairness of French onion soup was tasty (tasted like bisto onion gravy) – no croutons or cheese as you might expect though! My mother had the apple crumble which she said was fine.I think I would have got better quality food from buying a microwave roast dinner for one. The others eating with me found their meals poor as well, to say the least.DO NOT eat here – I am not exaggerating this is exactly my experience of this place, such as shame as the location is great!
