Friendly staff, delicious food...again!! We'll be back...

Good food with generous portion size

Sometimes, restaurants get it wrong and that's ok. It's how they respond that matters. Last night we were treated to a meal way beyond our expectations, with superb service in an intimate side room for ourselves and our guests. I have had meals in Michelin-starred places which couldn't come anywhere near this experience. Wonderful!

We had a wonderful family meal here. A very warm welcome from all the friendly staff who could not have been more accommodating throughout our visit. Every dish we ordered was of a very high standard with super fresh ingredients, beautifully cooked. A great choice too including good vegetarian options for my mother which is appreciated. Actually I think I would have enjoyed any dish on the menu so it took some time for us all to decide. My only problem with the Biscoff cheesecake was that I could have quite happily eaten two of them. Of course this standard of food doesn't come cheap but I thought it represents good value and we all left thoroughly satisfied by the experience.

Lovely lunch today, piping hot, quality ingredients, attentive staff, will definitely return.

I have to say I was impressed. I was staying in Fordwich for a week and had quite a few meals there. One meal stood out which was Hake with a celeriac sauce, it was amazing. All the meals we had were completely lovely.

I am not generally impressed by pub food however George and the Dragon was more of a restaurant standard. We visited for a business meal on a Wednesday afternoon, and kid you not, it was completely full, we had to wait some time to even park our car- which says that it is very popular. And indeed, it certainly did not let us down. Menu was very clear and easy to read, lots of selection but not too much to feel overwhelming, they took our order quickly. It was busy we waited over 30' to receive the food but it was worth the wait. Good service, excellent food quality and fair portions and flavours. If I was living close by I would definitely visit again. Keep up the good work, happy customer.

I found it a bit pricy. They allow dogs. You can sit with them under the canopy but not inside. Not great if it's cold. But there are lovely walks nearby so it's great to stop and have a soft drink.

The George & Dragon is a short drive from Canterbury & you will find a warm welcome not just from the open fires but from the very friendly staff. The decor is very traditional & cozy the pub is large with lots of tables for those who chose to dine. The is a good selection of beers & ales including some local brews. The pub is a popular local eatery so it’s wise to book ahead. The food is good, we visited on a Sunday lunchtime & although it was very busy service was efficient & attentive. Sunday roast expect to pay £23-£26 for a main & £8-£9 for a dessert. The food was hearty & nicely presented we chose chicken, shoulder of lamb & pork loin mains. I would definitely recommend a visit

Mixed feelings about our visit here. The food was fantastic - we had parsnip and apple soup, the bubble and squeak, pie and haggis - all fantastic. Kids had mac n cheese and a burger, again excellent. Sadly the great food was let down by the service. Individually the staff were very friendly albeit far from attentive but orders were missed (drinks forgotten, wrong food provided and sides missed) and we gave up on our final drinks order. The staff proactively removed drinks and gave a meal on the house, accepting service below par so perhaps this was just a one off - I hope so as food was certainly good enough to make us want to return.

What a wonderful relaxed Sunday Lunch with amazing food & fabulous service. I am almost loathe to review for fear we won't be able to get in again if you all book! We brought our "A Game" on this occasion so managed three excellent courses. All the food was fantastic but the dark chocolate orange marmalade roulade was divine & wished I could have fitted another one in! I would highly recommend this great pub as we really do need to make sure that they keep going. In this modern age great value too & they have a loyalty programme so keep your tickets!

Great dog friendly pub, good food, beer and atmosphere

We booked this last minute as we had a day off together and there are precious few venues open for lunch on a Monday. Great first impression. Friendly bar staff immediately welcoming us even though she was busy. Immediately shown to a cosy table in the restaurant. Such a pretty and welcoming pub ! Starters both of us chose the pheasant pudding. Delicious !! Small and expensive at £9.50 but really tasty. Lovely fresh greens underneath and tasty puree. I had the chicken and gnocchi which was really good and hearty and very well presented. Husband had the burger. But pricey at £17.50 but nothing special although it looked well cooked. I suspect he would rather have had mine so I let him have a little bit. Perfect portions so could not fit a dessert in. Overall quite impressed and I’m pretty fussy. Most would say it’s expensive but I’ve paid double and had awful food. Really lovely friendly service as well. Would definitely return !

Sunday lunch is delicious, lovely mix of veg, huge Yorkshire pudding homemade accompaniments. Dessert was DELICIOUS!

The food is delicious and wonderfully presented, its such a pretty pub in a gorgeous village. Very picturesque and worth a visit. We went for Boxing Day lunch so booking was a must. it has a bar too so if its only a drink you have tie for its still worth a visit.

Great food, brilliant, quick, efficient service. Christmas eve visit, extremely busy, but not rushed and very well run.

Lovely pub and restaurant, large and well kept pub garden. Took my team here for a Christmas meal and couldn't fault it. Lovely atmosphere, very nice menu that tasted great, friendly staff - I even left a gift on the table and they came running out and flagged down our car so we wouldn't forget it - how lovely is that! Definitely will come back. Thank you :-).

An amazing menu with so many choices for starters/nibbles. The pheasant suet pudding was so light and tasty. The cider basted pork ribeye with black pudding was delicious. The Christmas pudding had such an amazing flavour full of fruit and nuts, but surprisingly not the usual taste.

An excellent main course, no mean feat given that the pub was so busy and I was part of a large group. I ordered pork which was succulent and tasty. The roast carrot was delicious but the apple and potato puree a bit tight on portion control. The dessert was a total disappointment. ‘Black Forest Waffle” consisted of a dry waffle cut in two, scanty, processed chocolate sauce with a mean sliver or two of chocolate, a ball of ice cream and a few tinned cherries. I’d associate Black Forest with ample chocolate, oodles of whipped cream and brandied cherries. The confectioner clearly didn’t have a clue what Black Forest meant. Others had lovely Arctic Slice in generous proportions but mine was mean and not worth the money.

A quick warming whisky mac on way home from the coast. How inviting is that stove.

Acabo de volver de una comida deliciosa. Llegamos justo antes de las 3 pm y estaba lleno. 4 de nosotros comimos asados, carnes súper tiernas y sabrosas con muchas verduras frescas, el puré de chirivía es precioso. 1 tenía pescado y patatas fritas, El pescado era enorme con una porción muy bien dimensionada de patatas fritas para acompañarlo. Mi hijo tenía el queso macn "Kids" que de nuevo era muy sabroso y porción enorme. brownie de chocolate! ! ! ! ! wow! ! Gran selección de bebidas. El personal muy acogedor y amable, no estaba seguro de qué vino pedir, pero el barman llamado Aiden era muy conocedor. Sin duda volveremos en un futuro próximo y recomendar esta joya

Lunch early Saturday afternoon. Friendly, attentive service Great menu Delicious food..recommend the seabass! Warm, cosy and inviting on a grey dreary day. Look forward to coming back :)

Lovely atmosphere in a busy restaurant (clearly popular). Food was Fantastic!!! Excellent batter on a big piece of cod. Chips and mushy peas really good too. Great idea to offer small pud options and the sticky toffee pud was the best I've ever enjoyed. Huge Well Done to the kitchen and our friendly waitress.

Just had a great Sunday lunch with family. Very accommodating for a quieter table. Food and service were excellent even though the pub was very busy throughout our two hours there.

My wife and I had never been hear before and we were looking at somewhere mid way from my sisters house and this fitted the bill. I was slightly alarmed at some of the comments made but chose to go and make our own decision. We went at lunchtime and the place was fairly packed. None of us could find anything to fault. ALL the staff were friendly and polite. The drinks and food were perfect. We all enjoyed it so much we have definately decided to go again.

Had not been here for a while. The staff are nice but it's hard to get their attention. Food took absolutely ages to come out, trust me I understand there is a wait for freshly prepared food, but almost an hour for sandwiches and chips seemed a long time. The garlic chilli prawns did not taste of garlic or chilli and the bowl with chips was like a thimble so not good value for money. We won't be going back, sorry George and Dragon

Great place to eat. Food is always good. I always take my colleagues here for a treat.

After reading an awful lot of bad reviews we still decided to go to the g&d for my husband’s birthday. What a mistake. We had the same bad experiences, as in, total lack of service and hospitality. I don’t think the waiting staff were new, and needed more training, they just need to get their finger out and do their job, at a quicker pace. There was just the two of us, mid week, early evening and we were there over two and a half hours, having a two course meal! It is only a village pub but charging restaurant prices.

Situated in the heart of Fordwich, which prides itself as "Britain's smallest town", The George & Dragon has to be one of the nicest pubs I have ever been to. With plenty of comfortable seating options and a very cosy atmosphere, you'll feel right at home here. I was on a day trip to Canterbury for my birthday when I thought I'd stop by, and I'm so glad I did. Despite it being busy for a weekday lunchtime, the staff were all extremely quick yet you never felt rushed. Samantha was so lovely and went above and beyond to make sure I had a great meal. My chicken pie was to die for - compliments to the chef - and the huge portion was definitely worth the price. My gluten allergy was also catered for extremely well. I had a small brownie for dessert (all I could manage) but would recommend the regular sized brownie if you can! A huge thank you to Samantha and the team at the George & Dragon for making my birthday so special despite being on my own, this meal was the highlight of my trip. Although I live in west London, this was definitely worth the two hour trip to visit and I would definitely do it again 😊

We stayed for a few days in the town and visited here twice. Both times it was clear to see this is the hub of the local community great atmosphere, lovely service and excellent food. Clearly a dog friendly pub with a variety of 4 legged friends soaking in the attention.

Just a great Kentish public house

The dictionary definition of tasty and hearty says go to the George and dragon. Sunday lunch was the best we’ve had, great place in beautiful settings.

I definitely think this is one of my favorite pubs in all of England that I have been to. So cute and has some great options for vegans.

Lovely food and service as always. We are regulars so maybe the menu could be changed regularly as we have to repeat our choices now.

Out for an occasion meal, 38th anniversary, excellent service, fabulous food, great ales, slightly long wait between courses maybe because they were very busy, that aside thoroughly enjoyed our evening, would definitely recommend visiting.

Every time we come back to dine at George and the Dragon, we bring someone new. My mother and recently mother and her friend and we enjoy the food so much there’s always so much choice and the presentation is amazing we find ourselves taking pictures of our plates. The GF options are the best and really happy it’s not mega expensive like some pubs which we simply can’t go to now because they put the price up so much. This pub is a new fav of ours and we will be back time and time again. Thank you for being so great at everything, even the new daily menus online. Very helpful. You guys are on point.

This is a pub/restaurant that I have used many times previously and had some great meal from a good pub menu. This time I was disappointed and embarrassed as I took my son and his new girlfriend for lunch. The menu seems to have moved away from good food and tried to push upmarket. They have missed the mark. My son ordered the steak- expensive but you expect that with steak. What you don’t expect is the tiniest portion of meat I’ve ever seen. About 4 mouthfuls of average steak. The other 2 meals were expensive, pretentious and very average taste wise. Having frequented the pub regularly it was so disappointing I won’t be going back.

Very good back to pre covid service, plenty of room to enjoy a good meal.

There were 12 of us, who had parked further up the road to enjoy an evening paddle-board, when we finished we drove into the carpark to change into dry gear/shoes etc. before heading into the pub for an evening drink, when the rudest barmaid ever came marching across the road shouting ‘this is not OK!’ Assumed we’d parked there all along to paddle board (which we hadn’t!), we explained we’d just turned up and were about to come and have a drink, but she continued in the rudest manor, so we got back in our cars and drove elsewhere where we would feel more welcome! Perhaps get your facts straight first!! 2 of our party had been enjoying a drink in your garden prior to this -so we technically were customers! Rude rude rude. Avoid!

Fantastic roast, lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff.

Food, atmosphere and location are to die for. Waitresses looked overworked. Their service was good but a few more smiles would make a big difference. There should be someone to meet you when you arrive as we waited a long time for someone to appear.

The grub at this lovely pub is to die for. So hard to choose as everything on the menu looks sumptuous. Generous portions with well-balanced flavours and top-notch ingredients. Their pies are perfection, their mash utterly delicious and the sauce was just incredible. Their chips are the bomb and the onion rings have to be seen to be believed. If you have room for a pud (we often don't as their whopping main course really fills you up) they are wonderful, the triple chocolate brownie is moist and superb. The staff are friendly and attentive, we can't praise them highly enough, they remain cheerful no matter how busy. (Take a small car at busy times - the car park can be a nightmare!)

Friendly welcome, great food, great service. Will return again when we are down here again. The only downside is the parking. We could not park on the car park as it was full. We had to park quite a distance away. Need a registrar your car number plate for customs only system. Because lots of the spaces in the car were taken up by none patrons.

This was our first visit to The George & Dragon and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was lovely with very large portions. We sat outside as it was a nice evening and the outdoor dining area is lovely, undercover with lights and heaters for the colder months too. We were served by Finn who was wonderful, very attentive and friendly. A great visit and we look forward to returning soon!

It was delicious and the staff were really nice. Warm setting.

The food itself was lovely when finally delivered. We were seated in the bar area even though there were plenty of tables in the main restaurant available (and I booked) and we were forgotten about. It took 25 minutes for someone to take our order, it took 40 minutes for our starters to come out, another hour for the mains to come out and then 20 minutes for 2 bowls of ice cream to be delivered. Not once during our meal did anyone come over to ask if we wanted another drink or clear any of the empty glasses. There were tables covered in finished plates and glasses everywhere and even though the place was busy it was not overrun. There were 3 toilets in the ladies and 2 were out of action so there was a constant queue for the bathroom. We had a similar experience the last time we came but gave it another chance as the food was lovely. Can’t say I’ll be making that mistake again

Stopped off for a coffee and dessert - had the biscoff cheesecake with cherry sorbet - was honestly the best dessert I’ve ever had. Great ambiance and very friendly staff too - hope to come back next time I’m in the area to sample the menu further.

Situated next to the Great Stour river we have visited this pub twice now as we enjoyed our first visit. There is a nice garden with a large shaded area with plenty of seating for those hot sunny days or even warm rainy ones and lawned area with tables and benches with parasols. The food each time has been very good and enjoyed by all in our group. There is a fairly large car park on the other side of the road which has disabled parking. I will say the ladies toilet is not wheelchair friendly as there is a step up into the ladies and then another step into each cubicle and the same for the mens. As with most pubs, it is old and this could be the reason why? If there is a disabled toilet, we did not see it. When we are in the area again we will be sure to visit.

What was good: chicken wings starter, son's ham egg and chips he loved. Bad:extremely slow service, took 45 mins to get a starter, 1hr 15 to get the mains. Lamb shoulder was chewy and tasteless, potato was cold..we would have had desert but couldn't face the wait. Had to pay at the bar after getting bored waiting for the bill. Quite expensive, so would expect much better.

A lovely pub. We went there twice, when on holiday from Devon. Really friendly staff. Lovely food and drinks.

We booked a table for our wedding anniversary and went with family, only to be sat there waiting for an hour for the mains to be served without cutlery or plates which we had to again ask for. So much delay that we were forgotten. Wasted our special day waiting.

Can't fault and of the staff at all and the atmosphere is lovely. Sorry to say the food however was absolutely awful. I had the carimalised pork. The pork meat was like rubber and served with about 2 inches of fat on top, which wasn't particularly carimalised. The veg was bland and overdone. My wife's meal was nicer, being fair, but still pretty average. Safe to say I wouldn't ever go there again. She had the lamb. The meat was better cooked but the veg was still pretty poor. The wine had with the meal was nice.

Lovely riverside pub, very welcoming, dog friendly, lovely food.

My sister has recently moved to the area,so after helping with diy head to the george for some lunch in the sunshine. Pub is in a lovely location with plenty of outside seating. We ate from the outside menu most going for the burger and I had the steak sandwich. Food was lovely and the service was nice and friendly. Great for dogs with water bowls placed around the garden which was needed on a hot day. Would recommend a visit and will be back I'm sure to try the main menu. My sister is lucky to have this within walking distance.

On holiday and kept driving past this pub so gave it a go one night and went back for a 2nd visit. Both times the staff were friendly and professional. Good variety of dishes on the menu and not over priced in my opinion. For me there was nothing not to like about this pub.

The crab (etc etc) linguine was, o, God, soooo good. We were shattered and I was hangry to say the least, but the coke and garlic bread staved off madness till the lunch proper arrived. Shame I don't live nearer as otherwise I'd eat lunch there every day. Maybe just as well. Price for 2 very reasonable, I thought, considering the superb standard of food. Aces all round.

The food was extremely over priced and either under cooked or over cooked. BBQ chicken wings were very very tough and the Prawn toast was the worst we have ever had. Two thin pieces very small for £6.95 and barely any prawn, and very dark, over cooked and tasted of old oil. Nice location for a drink but would not eat there again. Shocking!

Excellent food , service and ambiance. Nothing was too much trouble for the attentive staff. No wonder the car park is always full !

Visited here on a beautiful sunny Sunday with friends. We sat outside under the canopy and was served by a delightful waitress. Drink and food order taken by a lovely young man who’s often served us. Efficiency personified. Knew all the ales available and reeled off the wines. A fantastic ambassador for this wonderful pub. The chef on was also first class as the food came out piping hot and beautifully seasoned. We all had the roasts and our veggie friend throughly enjoyed the Wellington. Her bug bear is always the poor options you get in most pubs but this was cooked with a great knowledge of the need for protein. Butternut squash and lentils. The beef/lamb and pork options we had were also superb. The quality of their ingredients is obvious. I’d love to know their meat provider as I struggle to get my beef so soft and tasty. The whole experience was just first class. We all said what an enjoyable couple of hours we spent at this establishment. We can’t wait to come back!

We have had a lovely meal today here at The George and Dragon. I had the Chicken and wild mushroom pie with buttered mash and vegetables in a white wine and tarragon sauce. My girlfriend had tge mixed roast dinner, Beef and pork loin with roast potatoes veg, gravy and crackling. The portion size was really good and food presented very nicely. The waitresses were all very helpful and polite, we had the pleasure of spending some time talking to to the landlady Diana also a very nice person. The food was lovely as was the atmosphere in the pub, they have a great beer garden with a food tent aswell as the restaurant, we will definitely be returning for more lovely food and will also try the food outside.Thank you so much to everyone, we had a great couple of hours with you.

Best roast with trimmings. Nothing is too much trouble. Could not recommend more highly.

Margarita was an excellent waitress! She was very helpful, polite and attentive. We go here often so we regularly recommend your pub to friends, family and our Airbnb guests! Unfortunately though, we found the Yorkshire pudding to be quite dry and crispy when we visited yesterday.

Three of us had the seafood linguini (pasta), the prawns on mine were well over cooked the other two dishes seemed to be ok but promotions between the three were so different. Surprised to see no sugar free soft drinks (Coke zero, pepsi Max or diet lemonade) except diet Coke Shame as this was my first visit

We Popped in on the ofchance on a Sunday (family of 4) we hadn't pre booked but the staff managed to fit us in. Amazing food great service. A little pricey but you get what you pay for and I was happy to pay me and my wife had the lamb followed by a dessert of cheesecake and chocolate brownie. Absolutely delicious.

Best pub in Kent. Food is always high quality and the staff are 10* servers. It’s always hard to try somewhere different for dinner as I will always come here every time without fail.

We had a family meal last week end and everything was just perfect! The pub is nice as in certain areas you can relax and have a drink and in others you can have a table and eat your lunch. The quality of the food is much higher than you would expect from a pub; in fact it is good restaurant quality with a good choice of beers thrown in!! The other distinguishing thing is that we could order a small or large size desert which is a great idea as often you want to treat yourself but not eat too much! The service was very attentive and professional. You were well looked after and yet they never tried to hurry you up. The atmosphere was very vibrant and we all enjoyed ourselves. Thank you to all at the George an Dragon for an amazing evening out.

Superb old pub with lots of nooks and crannies. Good selection of local ales. Imaginative choice of bar snacks. No piped music, so conversation can flow.

Delicious meal with family, our waitress was working super hard and was great, food was yummy!

Amazing amount of gluten free options available on the menu. Real care and attention given to the preparation. Fantastic flavour. Would highly recommend going especially for gluten free food.
