One of the best meals that I’ve ever had, and by a country mile the best meal I’ve had in a pub. We were staying at the Pig down the road and in every single respect the Bridge Arms was leagues ahead. The venison dumpling was superb, and the lamb rack was exquisitely cooked. My wife’s dishes were also first class, and the puddings we shared finished everything off perfectly (have the chocolate delice). The wine list is excellent and fairly priced (including a great range of wines by the glass). The dining room is spacious and well furnished, and the service is generous, thoughtful and attentive. We live over an hour away but will make the trip back for the rare pleasure of eating here again.

I recently dined at this restaurant, expecting a Michelin-level experience, but was thoroughly disappointed. First, the wine glass I was given was covered in water stains, and worse, it had two chips that cut my lip while drinking. This is simply unacceptable for any restaurant, let alone one that claims Michelin standards. To add to this, the service was far from professional. One of the female servers seemed more interested in scrutinizing the guests than providing proper service. Her demeanor was uncomfortable and made the entire experience even more unpleasant. I expected much better from a restaurant of this supposed caliber. This kind of poor attention to detail and unprofessional service is far below Michelin standards and has left me with a very negative impression.

Very very close What a great place, needs shouting about as they need to attract more customers for the beautifully presented almost perfect food. Sadly it was a little underutilised when we ate there today. The waitress made my mocktail herself, her first ever, and did it superbly. I started off with a fabulous lobster starter with a lovely sauce, my friend loved her beef tartar but felt the pickles were a strong flavour for tartar. My cod dish was my highlight of the meal. The steak my friend had was very large with possibly slightly over seasoned sauce. Desserts we're both superb, the chocolate with mint was sensational my doughnuts were great. Nice clean toilets and staff delightful, attentive and efficient. We chatted to chef who was a nice but so young artist at his craft. Well worth a visit.

I've written to the restaurant with the feedback / complaint below and no one has got back to me... says it all really. My party consisted of three adults and a 13 month old baby. We didn't have a reservation and we sat in the garden, and we were really looking forward to the high standard of service and quality, as well as impeccable food we've always enjoyed there. Sadly, this visit was far, far from our past experiences, and I feel compelled to write this review and if I could give 0 stars I would. We've dined at The Bridge Arms numerous times, both for meals and casual drinks and bar snacks, and have consistently been impressed with the food and the service. However, our recent visit was shockingly different and fell far below what we expected. Upon arrival, we were told that table service was no longer available in the garden and that we needed to order drinks at the bar. We were then handed a tray of drinks to carry outside ourselves, despite having just spent over £100. We noticed that other tables near us outside had their drinks brought out by a waiter. Additionally, there was confusion at the bar regarding the availability of bar snacks; we were initially told they weren’t available, only to be told moments later that they were. The whole experience was shambolic and the restaurant and garden weren't even particularly busy. When our food arrived, we hadn’t been provided with cutlery, side plates, or napkins. We asked the waitress who'd brought the food out, she apologised and mentioned that she was new. She returned with cutlery, but we had to ask again for side plates. Her dismissive response, a curt “yeh” as she walked away, was pretty shocking and absolutely not what I'd expect from a Michelin starred restaurant? To add to this, the buttermilk chicken dish we ordered contained just five very small pieces of chicken, which were lukewarm at best. I pointed this out to the waitress when she brought the plates, and while she said she would check with the kitchen, she never returned with an update. Things got worse... We had to ask a second waitress for napkins, to which she dismissively pointed at our table and said, “you have napkins there.” I had to explain that those were actually used tissues for my son that I had brought from home. Her response was to roll her eyes and walk away. Genuinely I can't remember the last time I experienced such rude and poor service anywhere. When we eventually asked for the bill, the same waitress, while clearing the table, rudely said “can you move that” when referring to my son’s baby fork left on one of the plates - there was no "please" or "thank you." I didn't ask for her name, however she was petite with short brown hair. We left The Bridge Arms feeling completely mind blown by the appalling experience. We had spent over £130 on drinks and some mediocre snacks and felt embarrassed in front of our guest, who we had repeatedly told about the wonderful experience we usually have there. She was stunned that The Bridge Arms holds a Michelin star. While I understand that the summer season can be busy, that does not justify the behavior we encountered from your staff. The rudeness and lack of basic courtesy were unacceptable, and it’s genuinely been a long time since I’ve experienced service this poor. I hope you will take this feedback seriously and address these issues, as it is such a stark contrast to what we know The Bridge Arms is capable of. We’ve previously enjoyed our visits and would like to continue doing so in the future, but this recent experience has left us questioning whether we would return.

We were staying at the local Pig hotel and truth to tell had no idea there was a Michelin starred restaurant a few minutes walk away. Well we do now and can’t wait to return. Unpretentious, unfussy and million miles away from “ tasting menu only“ one increasingly finds these days. Good scallops for me and my wife’s lobster starter was described by her as being one of the best lobster dishes she has ever had. The steak I had to follow was superb. An extensive wine list with some reasonable priced options at the lower end as well although, unless I missed it, no half bottle options though the wine by the glass are fine. Service was excellent and they did actually seem to appreciate our enthusiasm for what they were serving, nothing taken for granted.

The restaurant is located in a lovely village in Kent, and has ample parking for guests. The dining area is set in a small section behind the pub, there were 6 tables. There is a good selection of food on the menu. The oysters were very good, and packed with flavour. We had a cucumber and caviar oyster. The oysters were served with a warm herb bread and butter, that was also brimming with intense flavours. The starters were very good, we had scallops and the crab, apple and celeriac dish that was what you would expect for a one Michelin star standard. I had the pithivier for a main, and my partner had a steak. My course was good but the steak for me was something you could order at any other higher end pub restaurant. Although, it was cooked perfectly. We finished with a very good desert each. The only criticism we could make was the setting of the dining area, for a high quality restaurant it didn’t feel like fine dining. The music was fairly loud and didn’t give the right ambience in the dining area. Overall the dining area and decor lacked some character. Overall good restaurant, well done chef and front of house staff.

Had lunch here in May. Second time eating here but this time very disappointing. The service was pretty poor - dishes were just plonked on the table with no explanation/ description. The beef rib was lovely but no special touches. The fish dish was tiny with one piece of asparagus. We had to remind the waitress about missing orders yet wine glasses were topped up after every sip until we had to ask her to step back. No one was overseeing the restaurant and we left with a hefty bill and not even a goodbye from staff. Pretty poor for a Michelin starred restaurant and not that special. There are other restaurants locally that give a much better experience.

Some of the negative reviews on here have made me feel really sad - it feels like those people must have visited a different pub to the one that we experienced last night. Our evening was perfect from start to finish - the food, atmosphere and service were all exceptional. The Bridge Arms is everything I hope to find in a gastro pub. Highly recommend the buttermilk chicken (served as a starter/ snack), the cote de boeuf and the divine onion consommé. And the bread was amazing - I normally avoid bread but I couldn’t summon up the willpower! Our only regret is that we had no room left for pudding. We will definitely visit again if we come back to the area.

Absolutely, disgusting experience from brown haired young waitress on the 1st June around 6.40pm. Went for one drink and were told we weren’t allowed to sit down! After trying to sit on a sofa chair that was going to collapse we decided it would be more sensible to sit on the unaccompanied restaurants tables which was the only other choice available! Subsequently a very rude young waitress said ‘ I don’t know if I made it clear enough but you’re not allowed to sit here’! So apparently all the other hundreds of empty tables were being used! Eventually, very kind ladies allowed us to sit in there seats which saved us from floating around in the centre of an empty pub!! The sad thing is, if we were a bunch of blokes this would never of happened. Over all very rude and stuck up waitress’s and definiatly won’t be returning unless they get a change around in staff! Have been previously to eat and wasn’t impressed! Don’t think it’s worth the price or the Michelin.

I like the pub but I'm not entirely sure about it. The atmosphere is not exactly convivial admittedly the last three times I've been there on my own and during the afternoon/early evening. This time the landlord apologised for only a couple of minutes wait (nice) the other bar person was relatively new and was not yet in the swing of things. I didn't eat but the menu looked good, great beer garden and good interior. There was a good interaction between the landlord and locals. Dogs are welcomed. The pub is definitely worth a go

The Bridge Arms was a wonderful dining experience. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, and seamlessly covered for a minor error from one of her colleagues when the starter course was served. When we commented on how much we enjoyed our cocktails, she had the bartender share the recipes with us. The food was delicious, especially the sauces. Our table had ordered three different main courses (fish, pork, and beef) that came with a total of 5 different sauces. Each sauce was a wonderful enhancement to the target dish. And the hollandaise that came with the asparagus left us fighting for the last morsel in the dish (though I'm sure they would have brought us more if we'd asked). This was truly one of our most memorable meals in decades of visiting England.

I’m not being hyperbolic when I say this was one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten. My partner and I went on a Sunday and both went for roasts - I went for beef, he went for pork. Both were out of this world. The beef was akin to the best fillet steak ever, plus they filled the Yorkshire pudding with some slow cooked brisket - so SO good. Everything else - gravy, hispi cabbage rolls, herb crusted carrot, cauliflower cheese - was just as remarkable. Oh and the focaccia and butter, which is complimentary, is more than excellent. The wine was delicious, too. And the cheese! Omg the cheese. 🥹 Additional shout out to the staff, who were so lovely. I was very surprised that this business had received a Michelin star. The waiting staff were not au fait with the menu - twice i asked about dishes to help me make a decision on what to order and was given significantly incorrect information about both dishes. The staff just were not knowledgeable on the menu, which is surely a basic requirement. We certainly didn't feel the food was wow. Just OK. There was only one hot vegetable side dish on the menu ( they did kindly cook us a veg selection when I said I didn't like cabbage and the veg was very tasty.) People on the table next to us had to ask for their wine to be poured as the staff hadn't noticed their empty glases. Not Michelin star quality at all. Dined here on Saturday 2 March. Even though the restaurant has a Michelin star, and expectations were obviously very high we were delighted with the quality and taste of the simple but beautifully presented food. Quality was spot on with superb textures and flavours. Buttermilk fried chicken was very good as a starter, however the chicken liver parfait was sublime. I thought a fairly small portion but due to its richness the size was about right. Excellent bread was offered. I wish that the bread I make was a fraction as good. Excellent salted butter and very different from many other first rate butters but in a good way. We shared a rack of lamb cooked to rosé perfection. Chips very unusual and almost unique for a dining room with a Michelin star, but nevertheless not out of place. Hispi cabbage and a sort of mash very similar to an aligot were truly well executed. I thought before we ordered and by the size of the starters that the main course would be on the small side but we were wrong and totally full and couldn’t finish the excellent jus and chips. The food was very rich and I felt that this reflected in terms of richness fine dining in France at the end of the Nouvelle Cuisine period. The richness was fantastic. Too full for dessert or cheeses. Unfortunately nowadays we do not dine much at starred restaurants due to my wife’s allergies to eggs, nuts and fish, especially nowadays such restaurants have a no or limited choice tasting menu which isn’t suitable for her. However we had a more traditional a la carte menu here which means we will now be regulars. Fantastic service and attention to her allergies and although not inexpensive was good value for the quality of the cuisine. I could go on. Highly recommended. Pubs have changed over the years. Remember the factory made scotch eggs with a packet of pork scratchings. I do.

We had dinner here with friends on a Saturday evening. We have eaten here several times and it’s one of our favourite gastropubs. The food and service was again outstanding. We had the Carlingford rock oysters with a mignonette dressing, grilled octopus, red pepper and cucumber, Jasper grilled scallops with vadouvan sauce for starters followed by the Cote de Boeuf with potato rosti hollandaise, grilled Charlotte potato with white wine and crème fraiche and Hispi cabbage with smoked butter and tarragon. The beef was cooked to perfection and the onion rings which accompany the beef are unctuous and indulgent. The Yorkshire rhubarb and lemon curd trifle was a perfect ending to a perfect meal. All in all high quality food, excellent service and a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

They had even placed a hand written birthday card which was a lovely gesture when arriving at the table. I have no idea what they put in the bread but it is delicious, my only complaint is that it ruins eating any other type of bread from anywhere else as nothing can quite compare, we ate here on the 19th Jan and we are still talking about the bread!!! We could y not have the Wagyu steak, delicious doesn’t seem to do this justice! The onions ring was delightful, we made room we made room for desert and that too was incredible! We went to celebrate my 60th with family consisting of 6 adults and 2 under 15. The staff were attentive and so helpful but didn't intrude. The food was amazing, looked great on the plate, tasted sublime. It's not cheap but the food is worth every penny if you want good food that looks and tastes great. Do not go there if you want pub grub as this is food experience and food appreciation. Thank you for making my night!

An old (16C) gourmet pub, with excellent modern food - more akin to a moderately high end restaurant. Super friendly waiter. Good wine by the glass - our waiter was very knowledgeable about the choices, too.

Unpretentious, just excellent food and service. Will definitely return to this great restaurant! Only issue being not enough room left after our starters and main course for any desert.

WE popped in for a quick glass of wine and a sit by the fire and were charged £24 for two pinot grigios . We had the same in the pub down the road the day before for half the price. Guess who will get our future business? We come here regularly to visit family, what a shame to rip off tourists in this way.

Having visited the Fordwich Arms and regularly enjoying a Michelin starred meal in places like Northcote Manor, Angel at Hetton, Hipping Hall, etc. we were looking forward to this. However we found the whole experience underwhelming. Loud 70s/80s pop music is not conducive to relaxed conversation , tables are too close together and being near the bar with the phone ringing with bookings. Although nice that the fire was roaring. We all had the set menu, where there is no no choice, but was surprised that literally that was we got, often the chef surprises you with a between course delicacy. But not here. My main course was just about warm, though the pork was delicious and the gravy served separately very flavoursome. Dessert was apple crumble, which was nice, but nothing special. We ordered coffees.. which came with no petit fours.. and a latte in a cup with no handle! Cup was too hot to hold… Is this a thing? The bread was very good, but the butter was too cold and hard to spread.. This sounds like nit picking, but in a michelin starred restaurant this should not happen. Staff are friendly, and we were greeted with a smile, although the manager was somewhat surly. I hasten to add it was very quiet and only 3/4 table s in occupation. So all in all very underwhelming and in our opinion overpriced with a much too limited menu. What a shame..

We travelled from London just for this pub and we were not disappointed! If you’re considering going then book immediately. FOOD Sensational doesn’t even cover it. We shared the beef and it was melt in the mouth and packed with flavour. The sides and snacks were equally as incredible. So much thought went into truly excellent food which felt elegant but not pretentious. SERVICE AND ATMOSPHERE We had a lovely long lunch. Didn’t feel rushed but felt well attended to. The dining room is light, airy and beautifully decked out. The pub area had such charm and we got cosy next to the fire. I love a pub that is still a proper boozer as well as serving next level food. We also were looking to get a taxi back to the station and the chef himself helped us out. He even rang when my friend left her scarf. Truly my top meal of 2023 so far! Thank you Dan and team! (Also as a non drinker I was really chuffed with the variety of mock tails etc.)

There is a really relaxed atmosphere at this charming pub, and whilst the vibe is low key the food is incredible. The service was excellent as well. The barman welcomed us for a drink and entertained us with a great story about the beer that we had (Timothy Taylor Landlord). A Michelin Misstep: Bridge Arms, Canterbury - understaffed and organisational inefficiency Despite the mouthwatering fare at Bridge Arms, a Michelin-starred establishment nestled in the heart of Canterbury, my overall experience was marred by a number of disappointments that cast a shadow over the culinary brilliance on display. It began with a disquieting hour-long wait for our starters. To our dismay, the situation didn’t improve as we waited a further TWO hours for the main courses. Such prolonged delays are unexpected for any dining establishment, let alone one boasting a Michelin star. Further compounding the issue was the fact that the restaurant was not bustling or overwhelmingly busy - leaving one to wonder where the bottleneck in service occurred. The staff's inattentiveness was a palpable reality throughout our meal; our server, disappointingly, barely spared us a glance or bothered to refill our water glasses. When it came to the wine, a vital component of fine dining, it was served at room temperature on a scorching 30-degree Celsius day, completely disregarding the intricacies of serving red wine. One would expect a Michelin starred establishment to keep their wine in a wine cellar, or at least in a cool place. The red wine was so warm to drink we had to switch to white, despite ordering red meat for our main courses. This lack of attention to detail, in a place where one would expect meticulous standards, was not only disheartening, but one that begs the question how they got a Michelin star in the first place. It’s not just about food, but about service too. The final blow was the management's lackadaisical response to our concerns. Our attempt to communicate the issues was met with apathy - a far cry from the accountability one would expect from such a prestigious institution. The occasion was particularly special as it was my partner's birthday - a celebration I planned with the restaurant 8 months in advance that ended up being an embarrassing experience due to the numerous issues we faced. Despite the undeniable quality of the cuisine, I find it impossible to recommend Bridge Arms. The glaring lack of service, attention to detail, and managerial indifference make it a poor choice for anyone seeking the typically seamless and elevated experience one associates with Michelin-starred establishments. Especially given the price. As a result of the aforementioned reasons, I would not recommend coming here.
