We had a very warm welcome and great service at this beautiful old pub. The house steak and ale pie was delicious as were our hummus and halloumi starters. Great local beer, too. This is how a good British pub should be. We really hope to return!

Fantastic reception right from the start. My first point of contact was a female member of staff behaind the bar, who was welcoming and warm, funny and attentive. On meeting the landlord and landlady I was immediately struck by their professional, yet welcoming approach to new customers. The pub itself is exactly what you might expect from a pub set in the countryside but perhaps a few steps beyond. Lovely, well thought out decor, not fussy but displaying obvious thought, care and attention to detail. The surroundings are idyllic. If a drink and a meal followed by a walk is your thing, this pub is 10/10. I've yet to try it on a live music day/night but the variety would quite clearly suit any and all tastes. After my first visit I'm endlessly impressed and will be visiting again very soon, and will invite friends and family.

What immediately struck us about our first, but will most certainly not be our last visit to the 'George' was the the convivial 'local's local' feel. We were reminded of a verse from the 'Cheers' theme... "Sometimes you wanna go Where everybody knows your name And they're always glad you came You wanna be where you can see Our troubles are all the same You wanna be where everybody knows your name" The delightful Sue, owner, host, order taker, amber nectar dispenser and general front-of-house heartbeat of the George made us welcome and already one of the family. Subsequent diners were greeted by name, as were their young 'uns and as were their dogs. It was a crisp sunny Sunday, perfect for taking the pooches for a brisk walk followed by a bevvy and possibly lunch. The menu is small but perfectly formed, ranging from tasty 'snacky' to our choice, a generous serving of a very good roast beef and vegetables, served promptly on warmed plates. We didn't have room for dessert but made it anyway, I had the hot treacle pudding with a lake of warm custard, & 'imself was persuaded to have the Chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. He scarfed the lot, declaring it "the best brownie he's ever eaten". He was enthusiastic about the Moretti lager as well, especially as I was the designated driver! The maestro behind these culinary delights is Allan, husband of Sue, who together own the quaint, beautifully restored and eclectically furnished George & Dragon Free House. We enjoyed our lunch immensely; our visit mercifully didn't break the bank and to sum it all up, no sooner were we home that I was browsing 'Rightmove' for houses for sale within dog-walking distance. Well, a girl can dream, cant she? Thank you Sue & Allan.

Whilst out on our ramble we come across The George and Dagon. The Landlord was outside tidings up. We asked if it was possible to book a table for lunch he couldn't have been more helpful . When we arrived back we were greeted by a very pleasant young lady and shown to our table our drinks and food order was quickly taken. The food was absolutely delicious and plenty of homemade prepared produce. All in all our whole experience was excellent. We walk and lunch all over Kent and would rate this as one of the best. I will be recommending this pub to all the walking groups I know.

Sunday lunch that was a total knock out. The beef was cooked perfectly with proper homecooked roast potatoes and home made Yorkshires. To say nothing of the tender stem broccoli or carrots and parsnips that accompanied. Then desert... well given the main was so good we have a desert and that did not disappoint. Gorgeous waffle with honeycomb ice cream and a crumble for my husband. Going again and recommending to all our friends too. Gorgeous toilets (the ladies all love a lovely loo) and outdoor space for all the family too. A bit of heaven.

This lovely little pub , tucked away in the Kent countryside just outside Tonbridge, is well worth a visit. Quiz night is fortnightly Wednesday, and is gradually getting busier. This public house is in an a beautiful location, over looking fields. It is a lovely looking property and has such potential. However after visiting over many years, it is very rundown and needs a lot of work doing to it. Under new management again, there has been great improvement with the garden area, supporting new furniture and well kept flowering baskets. However the outside is very rundown and there is nothing to pull you in. It just looks deserted. We had lunch and for what we paid for it was very poor. The chips were soft and very fatty, wasn't offered brown bread and the salad was very very basic. We eat out a lot and else where is far better value. I do hope it improves dramatically otherwise we will not be going back.

Lunch was a disaster. The menu advertised sausages which turned out to be chipolatas, served in a dessert bowl, hence very small quantities. My wife has the scampi option which was so over cooked and brittle that they could only be shattered to try and liberate the scampi. Even by the waitress's comment the portion size was what other establishments would serve as a child's portion. I assume that the kitchen staff were not trained, and the boards advertising special offers outside were not available at lunchtime today. The absence of other cars should have been an indication that the George and Dragon is not a good place to eat, my advice, drive on past. Extremely poor value for money.

The beef was like a lump of shoe leather & fatty, the broccoli was yellow & cabbage well stewed, we had to ask for condiments to go with our roast. When we paid the bill a voucher for 2 free lunches was given to compensate the awful meal as if we will be returning to use them. Left it late for somewhere to eat on a Sunday afternoon. Drove past the George and thought we'd give it a go, it's a Greene King pub and it looks lovely from the outside, were slightly concerned that there were no other cars in the car park on a Sunday lunch time. When we walked in, it was like walking into someone's living room uninvited. TINY bar, full of locals spread out across the pub, we got a drink, sat down, ordered the only choices on the menu. Roast pork/beef/lamb or chicken. Waited a little while, not overly long, food looked nice... Cutting up my sons food - veg is Rock hard, batter pud frozen in the middle. They took it away and brought out another. Still frozen, took it away, brought it back, still frozen.... Kid screaming by this point. 4th one was hot. All the veg was hard, not al dente, hard, raw hard. The meat however was nice, pork was tender, so was the beef, had most of the string still attached though...Place needs a refurb inside, a Hoover and dust would be a start.Keep driving, it's not worth it, it is cheap though, I'll give them that...

Found this pub by accident. The SatNav decided to take us home from Chartwell through country highways and byways. The ravenous person sitting next to me, requested food, so the next pub we came to, we stopped. The welcome was friendly, and the beer and wine excellent. (Good selection of real ales). The menu, not extensive, but ideal pub grub, offered something for everyone. The food was very good, the service excellent and the prices reasonable. What more could one want?

Well know the people from last pub they had, this pub has now been taken by them, a new lick of paint and some personal touches to brighten up the place, clean and tidy, went there for lunch and well up to expectations all cooked fresh and ample food portions. Waitress very friendly and welcoming, the sweets were home made and went for the cheese cake had a couple of The Landlord and it was perfect, three ales on and all kept great, nibbles on the bar and friendly locals. This was a Greene King pub but mow a free house, a great garden and I have joined up for the bat and trap, there are also a petanque team too. Seems a lot going on and the new owners have gave heart back to this old pub and hope they carry on with the good work.

Heard the Pub had been taken over by New Peeps...So popped in with the Wife Sunday Evening... Without sounding impolite!!!! The Barman would be more suited to be on the Top of Notre Dame rather than serving behind a bar, He looked rather like Qusimodo's Brother!!!! And was very slow to acknowledge us!!!! LET alone Serve us!!! We made a very hasty retreat, and shall pass on visiting again, Unless new owners are in the foreseeable.

On the way to the start of a very long walk we drove past this pub and the signs in the car park that said 'Open All Day' and 'Food Served All Day'. After a 15 mile walk we arrived back at the pub to find the front door shut, we walked round to the side door to find the landlady who told us it was shut. We suggested that she should take down the signs down in the car park as we had just walked a very long way to get there. She got angry very quickly, told us to p**ss off and slammed the door in our faces. From there it was another 1 mile to the lovely Dovecote in Capel. The rude lady at the G&D had done us a favour, the Dovecote is a lovely pub with great food and a very friendly atmosphere. Will never ever go back to the George and Dragon despite it being quite close to where we live.

Pub being taken over by new people, do know them and I think it will do well. Previous pub they had was a great success and were very good proprietors.

Handy pub for a break between the Tudeley to Capel walk. A local pub, not very welcoming. Toilets clean and tables were clean.
