Had Sunday lunch with friends..all meals were absolutely lovely, service spot on and reasonably priced. We will without a doubt return again.

Never again. The food is just too expensive for what you get. The burger I had was just odd and I didn't finish it. Yes it's a pretty location but that's about it. Shame as we are local, but the Cartwheel in Whitsbury just up the road is so much better.

The service was outstanding from booking our table for 6 right up to the time we left. We booked one of the outside pods and was led out to the pod once seated the young waiter asked if we would like him to take photo of us all a d he politely obliged. The food was excellent and the service and the attention to detail by the young waiter was first class. Can't wait to go back there

The George was absolutely perfect for date night! It had a warm and friendly vibe and beautiful views. We had the prawns and Camembert to start with and both are absolutely fantastic quality. I then had the pork belly and was really impressed with the amount of meat that you got. My partner had the fish pie which came with a variety of fish in it and was nice and cheesy. For pudding we shared a brownie as I’ve seen pictures and it looked quite big. It was lovely and rich and Cadbury flavoured which was perfect for us! I also had a festive cocktail which was refreshing and came really quickly with the drinks. The girls working behind the bar were super smiley and friendly and made us comfortable with our little one. We will be recommending this to our friends and we will be back.

23 of the Hants & Dorset Curvy Riders (Ladies wot motorbike) attended for our Christmas get together dinner. Food was fantastic, atmosphere was lovely. Staff were awesome- looked after us really well. Meals arrived quickly, lovely presentation, taste and quality of ingredients was second to none. So nice, we're already planning the next run out, and Christmas dinner for next year! Give them a visit - you won't be disappointed!

A really welcoming place- we popped in for coffee and went back for lunch. The staff were very friendly and thoughtful. The George is exceptionally dog friendly and even has a doggy menu - and the human food was lovely too! A beautiful location alongside the river with an outdoor area for the warmer months. When we are next in the area we will be back!

What a lovely evening meal. My girlfriends and I were staying at the sandyballs holiday park for the weekend and booked in at The George for a Friday evening. Due to some purchases in the local independent shops earlier that day we were also able to get 10% off the bill (including drinks) which made the already reasonable prices even better as did the special price on cocktails that evening. We had olives and bread to start which were really lovely and a sizeable portion and then our party had a vegan burger, belly pork and the herb crusted trout. The waitress Harriet was simply lovely - very friendly and helpful. She advised on food and managed a bespoke request to serve the fish with different sides after the fish on the specials menu had sold out. We were even able to box up some of the left over food to take home. I personally had a pink gin cocktail that came with raspberry sorbet and it was delicious. The venue itself was bustling and warm with a great atmosphere. If you are staying at the holiday park I would definitely recommend visiting but there is only 1 taxi operating locally so book in advance.

We were greeted by super friendly staff and seated at a comfy table. The kids were made to feel very welcome and included. The food was excellent, in particular the piggy platter and the daily brownie, which my daughter exclamed was the best brownie she had ever had - not far off mine as well! Lovely pub

A very good morning to all the super staff at the George. 16 members of the Game Angling Instructors' Association had an evening meal at The George, following their National Fly Casting Instruction event, held at Fordingbridge - 11th and 12th October 2024. The evening meal was delicious - super starters, magnificent mains (highly recommend the tender rump steak) and delicious starters. All served up with super service. Many thanks. Staying at Sandy Balls so was looking for somewhere to have a Sunday roast. Found this place on Trip Advisor so booked a table via email. On arrival the place was packed (a good sign!) and received a warm, friendly welcome. All the staff were lovely and, despite the place being packed, we were able to order and eat without any delays. We were offered a choice of half chicken, belly pork and beef rump. For me, the biggest let down is lukewarm food. The roast here was piping hot! Plenty of vegetables, honestly I couldn’t fault it. Excellent portion size and really worth every penny. If we’re ever in the area, we’d definitely return.

We came for lunch and didn’t have a booking, but we were given a table on the terrace right next to the river. The staff were very friendly. We enjoyed our lunch - fish and chips, and a chicken burger. Only one tiny criticism - the burger was in a big bun (both great quality) but it made it a bit dry and could have done with coleslaw or guacamole. We didn’t have time for dessert but they did look good!

So disappointed with our first visit to The George, especially after having seen such favourable reviews, however ours will no doubt be one of the 10% categorised as poor or terrible. Booked in advance for Sunday lunch, and as reserved for midday, (the start of food being served) the least we could expect was the food to be hot. Regrettably not the case, cabbage & carrot just warm, broccoli not cooked and cold. Belly pork so tough had to leave most of it, crackling was soft. Our waitress offered to warm it , but the damage was done, we accepted the complimentary dessert which was tasty but as said the damage was done and as pensioners to eat out should be a memorable great but in this instance it was memorable for the wrong reasons. Quite a shame the owner who was made aware of our issues couldn't have 'fronted' the issue face on to express her concerns.

Great to revisit this gem and find it as good as ever. Menu offers excellent choice of freshly prepared food that delivers on quality and quantity. Good value for money considering the standard of food offered and polite, friendly, happy service adds to the whole experience

Booked a meal for a chilled out birthday by the river. Warmly greeted by the staff as we entered and we sat outside right next to the river, on a lovely summers evening. Patio is spacious, with plenty of seating and a relaxed vibe, no smoking on this part of the terrace which I really appreciated too. Our waitress was the very lovely Libby, she was well presented, polite, attentive & a credit to the establishment. I had prawns to start, juicy in a nice crispy batter with a sweet chilli sauce, now my main - man alive I’ve eaten some burgers in my time but this chicken burger with the added cheese and chorizo was EPIC! Food was that good we simply couldn’t fit in dessert. Pub is well laid out with toilets just as you come in, staff will pop round and check on you so no need to be back and forth to the bar. No parking outside but the car parks are less than a 5 min walk away from the pub so no bother. I would happily come back here and intend to, would like to see what the roast dinner is about as if the food tonight was to go by I’m sure it’ll be too draw. Fantastic evening as couples, really well done to all the team who looked after us.

First class lunch at this great venue beside the river, varied menu to suit all tastes. I choose a well presented starter, shredded ham hock salad with mustard and honey dressing followed by a yummy desert sticky toffee pudding and honeycomb ice cream - very moorish! Well done The George at Fordingbridge for providing visitors and locals with a special place to eat, can recommend unreservedly!

We came here for my birthday with our two Labrador dogs. The welcome was fantastic and the food was amazing. We had a booth which was perfect for the two of us and the two dogs. Victoria and Charmaine couldn’t do enough to make the birthday meal with the dogs a fantastic experience. I even got a birthday card from the pub! Definitely a recommended restaurant for its atmosphere, food and lovely stuff

What a terrific evening - this is something very different! Lovely food, ( prawn fish cakes, prawn risotto, crème brûlée, then .. genuine smiling staff all and .. WOW.. it’s Friday evening and a Very talented vocalist / musician “Marco” Great voice range .. really off the scale talent. SO impressed. The George is Special!

Yesterday we had a private function at the George for a family Celebration (christening) . Nothing was too much trouble, the food (buffet) was excellent, they will cater for whatever you want and the staff were fantastic. Would highly recommend for a function. All the family had a lovely time thank you very much to the team for making the children’s day so special.

Brilliant food and brilliant service ! Ate in a "Gastro Pod (Read shed !) Very comfortable and private. A lovely location, friendly and attentive staff (but not over bearing). Will probably visit again !

The George. We visited for an early evening dinner. We were greeted warmly, offered a table of our choice (we sat in the ‘conservatory’ overlooking the river). We were served a drink immediately and chatted with the staff, so friendly. The food was fabulous. You have to try the Trout Pate, made by the chef from local trout and herbs from the allotment style garden in the premises. We would not hesitate to go back again.

Lovely view of the river and we had a very warm welcome on arrival, however we won't be returning as found our lunch bill of £53 not matching the food. I ordered the Superfood salad but was so disappointed. Now I'm a lover of carrots but the amount in this dish was ridiculous (I regret not taking a photo), had a few sprouts of broccoli, some beetroot and cous cous and that was it, for £17!! My husband had the ceasor salad, that was only £17 but at least that included chicken and bacon. I order fries as I was still hungry, £3.50 for a very small pot of chips seemed a lot. We also had 1 drink which then brought the bill to £53 which in my opinion is far too expense. The Superfood salad is not worth more than £10/£12. When the lady came to clear our table and asked was everything ok I pointed to my plate of carrots and said "not enough food other than carrots", her response ....."we like to make sure you get plenty of veg" . The place was very busy and we had a lovely table but your prices are not for us.

First time at the beautiful pub by the river Avon. Driven pass several times , always packed out with people. Delightful staff as we entered the pub made us feel very welcome. We were shown to our table as we reserved this earlier on in the day on there Web site . It was an outside table on the decking/patio as we bought alone a doggy guest and was overlooking the River Avon. This was a spectacular view watching the kingfishers darting about as fish were jumping. The meal itself was perfecty prepared and cooked . I had haddock that was so big it over lapped the plate. This was also fresh and tasted divine. As was the puddings. The whole dinning experience was wonderful with cheerful staff that attended to your every need. Well done all.

Every member of stuff we encountered here where absolutely lovely, smiles on their faces and ready to help! The man (who I am assuming is the owner or manager) was very friendly and chatty when we arrived! Service was fast with lovely decor which really made our trip! What a rip-off. How disappointing. Whist I’m sure the food is great £19 for a burger, £19 for fish and chips. Ridiculous. And worst of all £2.20 for a glass of plain soda water and ice. (For the car driver). Soda water is fee in every other pub I’ve ever been in.

7 of our family recently visited this pub restaurant to celebrate one of our grandsons 13th birthday, and the majority of had the roast dinner. The waitress showed us to our table and gave us all a varied menu that covered all tastes, with the weather being gorgeous the restaurant was packed we made an excellent atmosphere. The children in our group received there food first, and the adults roasts followed soon after, the dishes arrived piping hot and well presented. We all agreed the food was both fresh and tasty and very filling. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to eat at the pub restaurant should book first to avoid being told fully booked. You will certainly not be disappointed.

I last knew this pub when it was operated by Whitbread, so yes a good few years ago. The place then had character and charm, sadly this no longer exists. It looks like the interior was designed by Stevie Wonder and someone with a liking for the colour purple! The interior is truly awful. It’s saving grace is that the food looked amazing and the riverside seating area is fantastic. The staff on the other hand were extremely young and they appeared to be vastly staffed. A lot of leaning on the bar chatting with each other. I won’t be returning.
