Food was ok but found it expensive for what it was puddings nearly £6 each so for 4 adults and 2 children over £100 not the hungry horse it use to be

I've been here quite a few times. The old managers were so nice and friendly and it was a hungry horse. Went there last week. The place was dead. Horrible club style music playing (on a Thursday) could barely hear a thing. Place was full of flies and the menu was just a piece of paper with absolutely nothing good to eat on it. We ended up finishing our one drink and just going somewhere else.

We went in a group, I ordered my meal Days in advance, rest of the group ordered at the table, and I STILL got served LAST. Even though they knew what i was having in advance. I was left waiting 5 or 10 mins looking around without my mains, while the other members of my group were busy eating theirs. I thaught they had forgotten about me, as nobody even came to the table to say that mine would out in a few minutes. Then the turkey was dry, there was no gravy to go with it, a couple of roast potatoes were rock hard. Spoiled the whole experience for me. This pub is located right next to a busy motorway and is really difficult to get to, and is in the middle of nowhere.

Have recently visited this pub twice in almost as many weeks as was passing while hungry and took the plunge. For the first of these visits I went for the Wednesday Curry deal again and am pleased to report that some changes in presentation had been made to at least stop the poppadoms from going soft and rubbery shortly after leaving the kitchen. But what hasn’t changed was putting the rice into the curry bowl to at least make the bowl look full rather than almost empty.

The George has always been our nearest pub, but we hadn't been there for years. we've now eaten lunch there 5 times over the last 6 weeks. The staff is excellent, the food is good, hot, not greasy and very plentiful. The decor is a bit gloomy, I guess this is a Hungry Horse thing. What also seems to be a Hungry Horse thing is menu items that aren't ever actually available. The beef and yorkshire pud "burrito" has always been a myth...this is also true at the Crooked Billet, the other Hungry Horse just up the road. You have roast beef, gravy, chips and peas, so all that you can be missing is a Yorkie?? Please stop advertising food items that you can't supply, it's very frustrating.

This used to be one of the worst pubs by reputation in the Slough area for years, so I was somewhat surprised recently to discover it was a Greene King Hungry Horse establishment. Given that, I thought it was time to pop in and try it out as the reviews (as usual) seemed to very good to dodgy. As I managed to finish a filming assignment early today, I thought I would take the opportunity to pop in and try the menu out. It was fairly quiet at around 2.30pm.As it is Curry Wednesday, the choice was obvious. I opted for the Hot Tikka Masala Chicken Big Banquet style! On a Wednesday the Curry is £5 including a drink from a reasonable selection of beers to soft drinks and wine. The big banquet upgrade is £3, which including the drink on this deal day is a good saving. I also opted for the cheesy garlic ciabatta. While the top was nicely toasted and tasted acceptable, it was let down by an untoasted and rather raw and undercooked bottom, which made the ciabatta rather soft to hold. Now to the Curry! Initial appearances were very good. So much on the already rather large plate! It was difficult to know where to begin, and that leads me to the first problem.- The poppadums were half buried under the rice, thereby making the buried parts soft and taste/feel like rubber. They were also quite dry which suggests they were probably microwaved. - The other main problem was the naan bread which was buried under the chips and onion bhajis. Given that the naan and poppadums are normally required at the start of the meal, it means that the presentation is all wrong. My suggestions would be.....- Put the rice in the bowl of curry, it would make the curry dish look more full than it appears to be when served. - Move the naan to the other side of the plate and place the poppadums on top. Or alternatively, still place the bhajis on top and move the poppadums to the other side of the curry. Anything that means the poppadums will not go soft in record time. In terms of taste, the Curry was hot and quite tasty. The meal overall, excluding the niggles above? Not bad at all, considering it's all manufactured. Get the presentation right and it would have been 4 stars. The staff? Very good! Attentive and very pleasant. The young lady on duty (pm Wed 23/11) is very customer focussed which I liked. She certainly tried to maximise sales! The pub decoration, which also seems to feature a bit in reviews.... Overall, it's not as bad as people seem to make out. There is a problem with the entrance which looks rather battered and unloved. This really could do with being touched up at a relatively minimal cost. It really does give an initial bad impression when in fact internally it is not bad at all. The upholstery is generally good but some parts need a bit of a scrub to clean hardened bits of whatever it is on the fabric. Oh! And some of the menus need a good wipe down as 2 out of 3 that I looked at were rather sticky..... Overall, room for improvement for the building and food presentation based on today's experience.

Arrived on Friday for impromptu lunch mid buying / negotiating a new car. We sat outside, which is a lovely enclosed setting. The menu is very interesting and offers great choices to suit most people's tastes. We opted for the steak sandwich with blue cheese and the smoked salmon with cream cheese. Steak was well cooked and served open style on ciabatta bread with onion rings, delicious! The smoked salmon sandwich was served closed on what initially looked like thick heavy bread. Quite the opposite it was light, fresh and very tasty. The dessert menu (attached) was great also but we were more than full from the sandwiches, next time!! A highly recommend here as the wind selection is also tempting.

We went to The George for a meal after a day out, normally we would go a Harvester but feel they have really gone downhill over the last year so decided to try somewhere new. We were really pleased we did. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals even the custard on the desserts was far better than the runny stuff normally served up. We were looked after by Nicole and Connor, they were friendly, happy and helpful and seemed to be enjoying their work, we felt that we were actually guests and not just numbers. The pub itself was warm and comfortable and to top it all the meals plus drinks and desserts for the 2 of us came to just £30.77. We will definitely be going back. If The George is a typical example of a Greene King pub I would suggest that Mitchell & Butler should take lessons.

We went here on Saturday afternoon for lunch, 2 adults 2 children (9yrs old) as we had an online voucher saving £10. We ordered our meals and drinks and the kids played outside for a while. The Heineken my partner ordered had a funny after taste so he left half of it. The children's food arrived first they had ordered the big plates crispy chicken. Really tasty plenty of it. My partners food arrived next about 5 minutes after the children's...he had the New Yorker hot dog which he said was nice but a bit cold. I'd ordered the sizzling smothered steak rare... It arrived 15 minutes after my partners he had almost finished his and the children had finished. No apology for the delay. My steak was over cooked to the point of it being well done and a bit tough but it was at least hot and I ate it as we didn't have time to complain and wait for them to cook another. After we finished a waitress came over and asked if everything had been alright and I said not really and explained about my partners being cold and mine being over cooked and we just got an "oh never mind". Why ask if you aren't going to listen to complaints. Doubt we will revisit in the future there are plenty of other places around of a higher standard.

Whenever I have attended it has been full of people who are loud and drunk and who seem to have no problem swearing at the top of their voices despite there being young children and other people around. Last time I was there, they had 3 members of staff on including the manager. The bar area was covered in dirty glasses. The eating area was covered in plates and the member of staff on the floor was running around trying to deliver peoples food and tidy up at the same time. The manager looked incredibly stressed and overworked. We overheard people talking about buying drugs. People arguing and fighting, threatening to do each other over outside the front. A very rough pub and not a nice place to be. I've been to other hungry horse establishments and this one is letting the brand down. AVOID.

Arrived at 2,15pm and found a table, then told by the manager that we would have to vacate the table by 4.00pm, which I didn't think would be a problem at all. However, the food took 45 minutes to arrive, and was not as ordered, vegetarian sausages were burnt, burger was overcooked and dry. Because of the delay we decided to eat our desserts in the beer garden, which took over an hour as the order had been forgotten (this was only sundae's).The beer garden had what looked like old washing up sponges on the grass, a rat poison box, and the lock on the gate had been smashed... and was only a few yards from a busy dual carriage way.

I am writing on behalf of my teenage daughter and her father who had the misfortune of visiting this pub today. They ordered the food and it came out over an hour later with no apology offered for the delay. The all day breakfast was missing the 2 eggs advertised and the beans, mushrooms and tomatoes were cold, and the sausages were burnt. The kids meal of chicken nuggets consisted of cold nuggets and no more than 6 chips with a small spoonful of peas. The ribs were ok, but the advertised 'pile' of chips was more like a small handful. The pub was not busy so the wait was totally unjustified for such sub standard food. Had they not paid up front, they would have refused to pay. They noticed other diners had a similar wait. This pub used to be a decent Hungry Horse. It is now awful. I will be contacting their head office to formally complain.

Me and my family have eaten at a number of Hungry Horse pubs in Staffordshire where we live and and they are lovely, welcoming, clean and family friendly places to go and eat really nice food for a decent price. The George however is none of the above. After a trip to Legoland we decided to go to The George and from the outside, it looked like a typically nice small pub. Once we were in, that's when the experience went downhill. We took our choice of tables at the back of the pub, with very few being available and all of which had not been cleaned from the previous use (despite the restaurant section being quiet). We ordered the food which came quickly, but a few things were forgotten like my sons beans and an extra chicken skewer. Also, the portions were extremely small compared to what we're used to with Hungry Horse chain pubs. The food went down ok, although it seemed to get cold too quickly to have been cooked properly in the first placeAs for the aforementioned "family friendly" pub, we were surrounded by loud, drunk and swearing people (half of which were also with children) and it wasn't the type of atmosphere I wanted to stay too long with the children so we got up to leave for our hotel for the night. On walking outside we were followed out by 4 or 5 "blokes" in vest tops and had walked out to the same number outside. We walked around the corner to the car park and there was a man stood in front of us gesturing and shouting at a man behind us. He then proceeded to fumble around in his jacket and the men behind shouted about there "going to be a stabbing soon", to which a chase broke out, all whilst my two young boys (6 and 4) stood and watched as we were caught in the middle! After the man threatening to pull out a knife was chased off, they "blokes" who had walked out the pub, promptly turned back around to the front of the pub, took their tops off and started full on brawling outside the pub. Having to drive past and trying to explain what had happened and was happening to our young boys was awful! In summary, this is not a place I would recommend anyone taking their family. This is a small minded local boozer, masquerading as a family chain pub. I have never written a Trip Advisor review, however after this, feel like I have to as I would not wish the same experience on anyone with a family.I read previous reviews and decided to go try it out, if you're in the area just don't. There was a much bigger, out of the way Fayre and Square less than a mile down the road that I wish I'd gone to.

We stopped off here with the family after a day out, the pub inside is very welcoming and looked very clean, we sat in a booth, served quickly, food well presented and delicious. The manager came to ask if everything was ok and seemed a genuine guy that had just the right approach to his customer service skills, not over powering or evasive, i shook his hand when we left. Please call in, great food, great prices and nice staff, you don't have to break the bank when you take out your family.

Went today with my parents for some drinks and I had THE most delicious bacon, avo and lettuce sourdough bap. You don't get quality like this anymore. Just fabulous. Have lived in GX over 25 years and always pop to Beaconsfield - never been before and will now come here many times!! Lovely lady owner too. So impressed!

A lovely local english pub! Great access for parking. Outdoor seating is plenty and very comfortable. Playground for the 7+yo kiddies, and chickens for the younger kids. Food was absolutely delicious, and super quick! Service was attentive and friendly. A plate we ordered was forgotten, and they swiftly arranged it and took the cost off the bill! I recommend the Palmer Ale!

Visited on a Monday evening. It was pretty quiet. In some pubs this is a recipe for ropey beer as what's in the pumps is stale and nasty but not here. Drank two pints of London Pride as good as any I've had. We ate too - the sandwiches and wraps were fine. Not sure a Frenchman would recognise the baguette but the long bap served up was tasty enough. All told, a good visit. (Update) Visited on a wet Thursday evening. The pub was busy but not full. We were seated easily. The beer was still good (Doom Bar this time). My companions reported that their sandwiches and wraps were great. I had a pizza, which was massive and delicious. Update: Visited for Sunday lunch. Beef and Pork roast dinners excellent. Our friends had sandwiches which were also praised, as were the chips. Drinks and service great. Can still recommend.
