I’ve been coming to this establishment since it very first opened and literally will go no where else the food is amazing the cocktails are unreal and the staff oh my god the staff general and his family have worked so hard and it truly shows a beautiful family business so welcoming and friendly and great value you for money ❤️ Literally the first place I visited on the 13th of April keep doing what your doing guys your amazing ❤️ I’ll be back very very soon ❤️

Last minute decision to eat here after surprising the parents with an impromptu visit from up north. The service, food quality and atmosphere were impeccable. The staff were friendly, chatty and made us feel so comfortable and welcome. The food was delicious, perfectly cooked and well presented. Any requests were never too much of a hassle. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Thanks so much!

Ive read a few of these reviews and being a customer since it's opening a couple of years back, I feel they portray this little gem in Dagenham falsly. Now initially all businesses have teathing probs and that the only reasons I can find for the negativity, as the food and staff are all amazing and make my family feel so welcome and relaxed, aswell as full of food . They have always asked us and other customers what would we like in the restaurant to make our visit more enjoyable and after these couple of years I can honestly say I don't think they could improve at present, food is fantastic, staff are welcoming and attentive to our needs, and any problems with any food has always been rectified immediately, not that that's been often maybe once or twice. I cannot recommend this restaurant any more highly, as it truly is fantastic.Rob & Nickie

Food was nice but very late. Not what you need when you are very hungry. In 2 hours can cook almost anything. Defeats the object of ordering really. If they had been on time 4 or 5 stars but nobody wants to wait almost 2 hrs. Busy isnt an excuse. Dont take the order if ur not in a position to deliver in timely manner give customer a chance to order elsehwere

Eaten here several times and told the restaurant was non-halal in accordance with my religious beliefs. However, when my sister called recently to book a family meal, we were told that the restaurant has always been halal. I’m concerned this restaurant management team lie to different communities in order to line their own pockets. Definitely won’t be eating here again.

I have opened packet of cigarettes and asked her to take and throw in a rubbish.She did say to take with me..Extremely rude.I will never come in this restaurant.Food is nothing spicial

Firstly, I’m shocked and surprised by the negative reviews. I’ve been here maybe 8-9 time’s so far and have also ordered food online via ubereats a few time’s. I’ve never had any reason to complain and the food is fresh and tasty. I’ve been there with the wife, with friends and with family. I’ve tried other Turkish restaurants in Dagenham and barking, and being honest, the General’s Grill is hands down better than them! I’ve tried the platters, burgers, lahmacun and desserts here. I’ve always been happy with the food and my belly will definitely agree with me, being full and happy each time we’ve either visited or ordered a takeaway. Like I said at the start, ignore the haters, ignore the fake pictures they’ve uploaded, give the place a try and I guarantee you’ll love them! :-)

I booked a table for 25 friends and family at the restaurant for my husbands surprise 40th birthday....We had the most amazing evening. The manager, General, he looked after us from beginning to end and the evening was amazing. We had such a fantastic night, we cannot recommend the place enough!Living local, we have visited a few times as family for a meal-we also order regularly for a takeaway. Have always rated the food and service. But the lengths they went to to make my husband's birthday was second to none. Food, service, staff, atmosphere, all spot on!Cannot rate these guys high enough. Thankyou for everything x

I have never wrote a review in my life until now, but what a let down, never again, customer care was rude, they are refusing to serve rice with the wraps, even know it’s on there menu and plus it took well over and hour to turn up and when it did it was horrible the whole lot, you could knock someone out with one of my kids nuggets, I will never be going there or getting delivery ever again.

The best food till now, I want to thank general for being such a good welcoming men, feeling so comfortable around his family and his waitresses, they are warming me and my family every time we go there. Happy to go there anytime. Many thanks.

For me and my family was a pleasure to be at the generals restaurant, last night with all my family. I had the most enjoyable night this Saturday it was amazing and I’m really impressed with the customer service good and the food had a great taste, happy to go there any time. I never really do reviews but this is the worse restaurant ever.... I ordered food to come to me told 90 mins.... so decided to collect got the food home what a joke.... hardly any meat on my mixed grill full if rice cold... took it back they took the food refused to give money back and said couldn't care less they make 20k a week and said they were calling the police.... which never arrived... avoid at all cost

I am absolutely disgusted by the quality of the food. The food arrived all cold. The adana was definitely cooked the day before it was tough and chewy. The doner kebab also looked as though they were scraps from the day before the salad was browning and nothing was fresh. I will not be ordering from here ever again. I should’ve stuck to my usual Turkish take away. I would give this place 0 stars. Do not order from here !!!!

The worst customer service I have ever received - please avoid this restaurant. I received my order at 8:15pm and there was an item missing. I tried to call the restaurant and it took me 15 minutes (a total of 8 calls) to get through to them. I informed them that an item was missing, and they argued that the item was put in the bag, and said that maybe the delivery driver took the item without offering a solution. I asked them to send the item back out, and they reluctantly agreed. I asked how long it would take, as I told them that the food had been sitting here for 15 minutes going cold. I was informed that they didn't know how long it would take, as there was only one woman at the restaurant on her own, and they didn't know when the delivery driver would be back. I told them that I wasn't happy with this resolution, as the food would be cold by the time that the missing dish arrived, and asked them what else they could do. At this point, the woman put the phone down on me. It's now been an hour and a half since our original food arrived, and we still haven't received the missing item. Just Eat's customer service team have tried to resolve it, but the restaurant put the phone down on them, and now they are not picking up the phone. I'm now left with the food not arriving, and no refund. Do not order from this place!

Old stale chips, brown salad and burnt-to-a-crisp lamb shish. Called the manager to complain, but he said I was lying because chef said it was fine.

Ordered generals grill for dinner for my family and I was disgusted about what was delivered. 2 and a half pieces of lamb shish!! The chicken shish had 2. Absolutely disgusting. My partner rung the restaurant and he was shouted at and spoke over! Will never get food from here again

This place needs to be closed down, I received my take away order and the lamb ribs were uncooked and the donner meat was black and rock hard could not brake it! I called the restaurant and was told “I do not believe you” and was laughed at saying “how can it be rock hard” then eventually he hung up. disgusting customer service!

After enjoying food in restaurant decided to get takeaway and wasn't disappointed food arrived within specified time and was piping hot. Would highly recommend either dining out or takeaway.

Ordered a platter for delivery and the rice consistency didn’t like the usual, took a bite and it was completely off. Called up and the guy on the other end didn’t seem to know what to do. I said I’ll bring it in. Went in store and they replaced the rice but still wasn’t risking it as it didn’t seem right. Looked at how they store their food and not surprised that the rice was off as they store it in a metal container next to the grill so it is constantly getting heated and great condition for bacteria to form in the rice. Never again, will go back to Lara Grill, yes they are more expensive then these lot but their food and service is on point.

An hour and forty minutes for delivery (it's on its way, they kept saying). The vegetable kebab was an oily mess and the rest of the food was overcooked and dry except for the rice and bulgar. If that's Turkish, I'll eat my fez.

Hi I went there 2 weeks ago with my friend and son, wen we was handed the hot platter the couscous was cold and smelled a bit off So I told the waiter and he took the platter away and brought it back 10 minutes I'm guessing they heated it in the microwave. Anyway the lamb Adana was then smelling tangy In Such a way u know it's off putting so we just stopped there and told the manager and instead of just saying sorry he tried arguing it's fesh we make our kebabs In the morning come and look come and look, I then said I dont need to look I can smell it. He just went to the back and a waitress came and and gave us the bill and apologised. We also just put our napkins plates on top of the food hoping it don't get served to anyone else

First and a foremost, this is an Indian owned Turkish restaurant. Would you buy fish and chips from a Chinese Takeaway ??

I ordered for delivery and my meal had missing chips. I called the restaurant hoping they would put it right only to be told the chef is adamant that there were chips in my order. I offered to photograph and show them my order which arrived WITHOUT CHIPS. The manager then said I was lying and the chef is sure there are chips in this order and if I want my chips or my money back I would have to come there and pick it up because they won’t send anyone back for chips their chef was so sure I had. After explaining that was unsuitable considering we ordered for a reason. He said that was my only option and hung up. Horror show of a restaurant. No wonder they’re usually empty. How embarrassing

Just had a evening with 9 friends at General’s Grill and the food, service and management was awful.

A number of people in party complained about overly dry, overcooked food. Manager didn't seem interested in complaints. Never again.

I’ve ordered three different times home delivery from this restaurant and all times the service was horrible but today was the worst ever. Very bad experience with this restaurant, I am very disappointed because I thought their food is very nice when I’ve tasted but the service is not professional and the manager is very rude . I asked for a full refund for my order that I haven’t received and he refused so I’ve paid for something that I’ve never received.

Food was ok, waitresses took time to serve us even tho we was waiting patiently.

I visited this restaurant with a friend recently and was a little unsure because of some of the reviews. However I was very pleasantly surprised! I wasn't quite ready when it came to order so the guy (who I later found out was the owner) taking my order asked what I liked and he suggested the lamb sarma. I am so glad I tried this as it was truly delicious and it was also presented really beautifully. We also ordered hummus as a starter and that too was fresh and tasty. I am glad I visited and I was delighted with my meal and experience. I will visit again soon and maybe try something else but it's likely I'll order the yummy lamb sarma again!

The food in this restaurant is outstanding we had shish lamb, chicken beyti & kofte lamb & adana kofte all was very delicious and would highly recommend sorry about the photos as we already started tucking in.

We have visited The General’s grill three times over the last three months and every time we have been the food and service has been excellent. The ‘General’ is very friendly and welcoming and the wait staff are polite and helpful. The restaurant and kitchen are very clean. The food is plentiful and good value for money, the bill for 6 starters, 6 main courses, 5 beers and a soft drink was under £100 (around £16 each).

Visited this place with the wife on a long over due date night. I found it a little odd that this place states Turkish food yet there are no Turkish staff even the manager/owner was Indian I believe.The place was welcoming and appeared clean. The food wasn’t too bad I had lamb kofta in yoghurt and the wife went for grilled whole chicken. Mine was ok but not the best tasting the grilled chicken on the on the other hand over cooked and DRY!! And was mostly left uneaten. When my missus told the owner he said nothing and simply walked off

A welcome addition to the area. I eat here regularly and always enjoy the food. The general is very friendly and runs a tight ship. The decking outside is great for a bit of the al fresco dining. Recommended

1st time customer! Ordered food for delivery for my partner, daughter and me, it came on time. Opened up all food except salad, we were all so hungry and couldn’t wait to eat, I put my daughters food on a plate for her to eat then started to get my food onto the plate. The last item I had to add to my plate was my salad. VERY VERY VERY MOULDY SALAD. I called the restaurant, they made me feel like a liar asking me if I’m sure the food was off. It smelt like it had been there going off for over a week. The joke is they collected all of the food from me and then offered me a fresh batch of food. I couldn’t believe it. Why would I ever eat from them when they can’t even get a salad right. No refund offered from them. DISGUSTING I PHYSICALLY FEEL SICK NOW

My decision never to go again isn't actually about the food. When eventually my food arrived, 40 minutes after ordering and seeing a constant stream of take-away and delivery food going out of the door, I felt my will to live dissappearing out of the door with it.

Ok A colleague of mine said his Local Turkish, the General Grill is the best value Turkish around I have to agree. I live in North London and work In East London but the journey into barking to have lunch. Now I see a few bad reviews on the place and I hope the management would take note but I have been here 4 times and had no issues. Food ok and price very good.

Over 2 and half hours for delivery 3 phone calls later spoke to a lady who was very rude and was not helpful at all. Then finally got a call from driver who then took another 20 mins to get to me. Food was cold once arrived then called shop back an told them I won't be paying full price for stone cold food and after 2 and half hours sh said can you wait 20 mins I'll call manager I told her no I'm not waiting so driver called manager directly and he was very sorry and did give money off but cold food over 2 and half hour wait and cold food not good will not be eating rom here again

The food here is not bad my honest opinion is there are a lot better Turkish restaurant short drive away but if in the local area then rhis will do.

Having eaten in the restaurant a couple of times since it opened, I decided to order a takeaway from there. I placed my order and the restaurant added another 30 minutes to the delivery time. The food arrived 15 minutes later than the stated delivery time and when we phoned the restaurant, the owner (the son) was very unhelpful. He just didn’t seem to care and couldn’t get me off the phone quick enough. Didn’t even ask for my order number, just said “it’s on it’s way, will be there in the next 10-15 minutes”. I live less than 5 minutes from the restaurant, so how can it take 15 minutes to deliver!

Going downhill and fast unfortunately. They need to decide if they are going to continue to be a slave to just eat and the takeaway crowd or get back to being a half decent restaurant.

Food was excellent & plentiful. Great management, always given time & excellent service on each occasion we have been there.

I gave 2 stars because the service was decent enough but the food was terrible & only deserved one star. My daughter & I ordered the mixed shish meal which actually looked good & my husband ordered ribs. His ribs & our lamb was full of fat which was disgusting & the chicken was very bland. Would have left the food if we didn't have to pay. The best thing there was the bread given on arrival. The lady asked us if we would like to look at the dessert menu, I didn't want to spend another penny there so gave the exact money & left. Definitely no tip given. Such a shame as for us would have been somewhere local to go & its a very pleasant looking establishment.

went to lunch here last week. Food was nice and a large salad attached. However when I went to look at the other meat on offer at the kitchen, there were flies on the meat. Don't think I would come here again.

Turned up unannounced wanting a table for five, warm welcome fro the waitress and then the owner introduced himself. Menu was uncomplicated and we opted for the Chefs special platter for 2 people (2 x platters) could have easily served 6-7 people with reasonable appetites. food was freshly cooked, in front of us on coals. Succulent meat and lovely fresh salad. Turkish bread was fresh and plentiful.

The service was excellent. The food was delicious and ample. We could not finish our platter. The meat were succulent and mouth watering. Will highly recommend

Food is good standard Turkish food, I've had better but nice enough for a local restaurant wouldn't travel from outside the area for it though. Reasonably priced and good portion sizes.

Have been here a few times and was excited to finally have a restaurant in Barking even though the name of the shop has a missing apostrophe!!!!!

My family and friends know the owners very well. Personally we know that this restaurant has had its ups and downs but has battled through the negativity.

Would highly recommend. Food was great and piping hot and service was good. The mezze platter for two could feed three. You can see the food being cooked and the place had a good atmosphere. Great to see a great local business so busy. You should visit.

A nice place for local people as you wouldn't travel to get there as unless you live in the middle of nowhere you can get food like this , General the owner is very welcoming but gives the staff a bit of a hard time , if you like kebabs you will like it but a little bit on the small side.

I have eaten at this establishment many times, it started off good here but the service has gone downhill over the past months.

Visited here with my dad as we'd driven past it a few times and were intrigued.

Here for a night out with friends. Fabulous food, lovely attentive staff. Needs to sort draft from door but otherwise a lovely lively spot for a relaxed night with friends. Loads of family groups here from grandma to babies.

Really good food & service with decent decor. Definitely recommended for authentic well done kebabs in huge portions! Perhaps the best place to eat in this neighbourhood.

Great atmosphere and great food. This particular visit was a birthday outing. Restaurant is good for dinner outings and overall had a varied set menu. Will definately go again !

This place is by far the best around I have been coming for a while now and the food just gets better each time the family that run the place are so welcoming and friendly I would highly recommend this place to anybody that asks great value for money and great food what more could you ask for

I have been here a few times and each time the visit is progressively worse I will not be visiting again they have a very poor attitude not very accommodating and food is average. It really it's something to rave about in my opinion there are much better places locally that offer much better food, variety, better price and quality of venue and service. I would not suggest this place it's in a horrible location opposite Lidl on a busy main road. Your better off going to Lara Grill 20 Whalebone Lane South, Dagenham RM8 1BJ England best food and service in the local area and already has high score on trip advisor !

Have eating here a few times and never been disappointed the food is lovely so much to choose from. Would also recommend the takeaway service. Only downside is there is limited places to park
