No food at the moment, could be a fantastic pub and venue, just needs the right person in there to build the traction. Beer was good though, and it's an incredible building!

Been there no food at all . Cannot understand it is mow closing at 7pm .

Limited menu, but the food was nice, cooked fresh, and we only had a short wait. Typical selection of beers to be expected in an Everards Pub.

Went for a Sunday roast, was given what seemed like a boiled chicken breast, veg was mediocre, gravy was sparse. The pictures on the website look better than it is. Food not that great.

Booked a table and told when arrived that they weren’t serving food, left us struggling to find somewhere else to eat at last minute.

Turned away and told they 'don't do walk-ins' despite loads of empty tables. Shame looked like a really lovely place

Don't know where to begin.....we hired the boathouse for my daughter baby shower bargain price £100 deposit if you make £500 on the bar you get this back...ours was returned at the end of our event....the room is well worth £100 anyway....I visited once to see the room an on the spot jobby no fuss made by the staff it was just a yes let me just serve these customers....the same thing when I returned to book .......a decked area and garden area that over looks a river and frequent visiting cows on the other side of the river. We asked to set up the evening before again as there wasn't a booking it was no bother to them. Morning of the baby shower had a cake catastrophy ...staff tried to help fix it ...helped with every request for additional tables scissors string when setting up no drama..... lovely friendly staff ...a room in a beautiful place as a blank canvas and no restrictions on decorating it .......I would recommend anyone to view this function room might not be appropriate for everyone due to size but consider it the inside outside element worked so well for us ....thankyou for your kindness hospitality and welcoming manner you are all fantastic

We came here for Sunday lunch, food was delicious, homemade and fresh. Staff were friendly. Nice and clean. Will return.

I have visited a couple of times recently and each time has got better and better. Great range of food, drink , plenty of parking, loads of space outdoors for big events. Highly recommend the dirty burger which came with mac cheese 🧀 😋. 5 🌟 stars.

Such a lovely place to have a drink and food with family. Staff were very friendly and helpful and drinks were good. Such a shame my review was not 5stars, Only one serving most of the time but managing well in the circumstances. Please please give your staff a hand when busy, putting the tent up could have waited at times. Seems the same issue each week we go out for a drink. Get this sorted and you will have less disgruntled customers.

Lovely place and gardens, Food was fabulous, catered to all Allergy specifications, very helpful, thank you, made it a very enjoyable meal out.

Ordered food and was told it would be a half hour wait. Waited over an hour and food finally arrived and we were told one of the pizzas was missing ingredients. We were then offered a free round to make up for the mistake and when we went to claim the pint we were offered a 1/4 pint each. Not much of a gesture considering we are local and come here regularly. We were also told the chef was “annoyed” that we complained about the wait. Questionable customer service.

Went for bike night with my daughter and both had scampi and chips - fab food , real nice staff, good boozer and nice out door grassed area with tables. Quite a few bikes to look around and good atmosphere, will be back !

Went here today for Sunday lunch with a large family group. We gave them less than 24 hours notice. Everything was absolutely spot on & the food delicious (the cauliflower cheese deserves a special mention). The children had a little play area to keep them entertained. In brief, great location, great venue, great food. We will be back!

Popped in for lunch and was very happy we did. All the food was delicious, great portion size. The menu is slightly limited in the number of items but what there is is varied. (Classic pub food). What is and isn’t, or could be made gluten free is slightly unclear on the menu (Saw more acronyms than were in the key, GF, GFA, GFR?) but when we asked the waitress she checked very quickly for us. There were only three tables in when we visited( including us) so the one waitress was able to handle working the bar as well whilst keeping up good table service. Therefore I can’t comment on how service goes during busy times. Overall we really enjoyed our lunch and I’m sure we will be back.

We had our wedding reception at The Gate Hangs Well at the end of June, and to be honest, I have to say we were disappointed overall. We were recommended the venue as we were looking for somewhere for a small gathering on a budget, so the boathouse was ideal for what we needed. We made the enquiry, and they were quick to respond to emails and provided all the information we needed - they even let us have the 3 course menu and arrange for us to have beef since the regular steaks were unavailable. When we went to view the boathouse, we were advised they would be showing someone else round, so we would have to wait which we were fine with. We watched and listened in as they told the other people how they could set the room up, showed them where stuff was, generally asked them questions about their booking and even suggested they could have the piano tuned for them if they wanted to use it. When they left and it was our turn to view, we were told "this is it", and we were left to ask questions about set up, etc as the information wasn't volunteered. Still, we continued with the booking (and stayed for food after the viewing). We were told to take anything we wanted setting up the night before and to leave it with them because they had another event - which we did. We also asked if they had candles for the table which they said they did and would include in the set up. Again, the night before our wedding, we had another meal there with the majority of our party. On the day of my wedding, I turned up to the venue and everything I left the night before was exactly where I put it. ON MY WEDDING DAY, while the rest of the party sat outside enjoying the day, I set up my own wedding reception... I found the candles in the windows but they didn't have anything to light them with. I went into the toilet to take my makeup off and the young lady that was looking after us asked if I was ok because she thought I was crying. I'm not sure of the young ladies name (dark hair) but she was the only one that seemed to care. We hope she got the flowers we left for her and that they weren't kept by the other lady. To add insult to injury, the follow up email after the reception had someone else's name on it! We wouldn't recommend this venue based on our experience. I believe someone else is running the pub now, so I hope the remaining team members are now providing a better service than we received. It's a shame because it was a nice venue.

Obviously as it's near the river, part of the garden is still flooded and out of use. This ,however,isn't cordoned off and is not illuminated at night.

First impressions, Looks a lovely welcoming old pub. Asked the barmaid for a menu at the bar, whilst see was serving ( which were literally in front of her!) whilst the drunk was asking his table what they wanted, she said they would bring them over. Attitude stunk.. A lad came over with a menu 5 minutes later, told us to order at the bar, which isn’t a problem,, he could have been a bit more cheerful. My daughter ordered at the bar to be told there would be a wait for food, not a problem, my daughter felt like they were trying not to get us to order. Not like they were rushed of their feet. Food arrived had to get my own cutlery again not a problem again not like they were rushed off their feet. I had the salmon stir fry, it wasn’t a stir fry it was dried up noodles, with spring onions and peas. Salmon was cooked to perfection. Hence not a good experience and left disappointed and hungry.

We went for the first time since the new owners have management. The food was absolutely fantastic and the live music was brilliant. Well worth going and we will definitely go again. Thanks so much.

We went on Saturday night in Jan. It was extremely quiet. However. This was not deserved. The food was fantastic!!! Great portions and taste was excellent. The homemade soup was beautiful. Staff were attentive and friendly. They helped us out when our car wouldn't start and made sure they stayed open until we had been rescued!. Exceptional!!

Really disappointed with vegetarian option for sunday lunch. Just served with peas, broccoli and mash. No roast potatoes, carrots, parsnips and no yorkie pud. As I vegetarian I do at least expect vegetables to be vegetarian friendly. For £14.95,this was really poor. Staff were lovely as always and couldn't apologise enough. Wont be back for sunday lunch, such a shame.

Very Disappointing experience! It was -1 outside and the pub was very cold…none of the radiators were on, and none of the fires were lit! I chose the gyros…the chicken was dry, the flatbread was so tough I struggled to cut it, and it was covered in loads of thick cut unappetising raw onion. The only reason I gave 2 stars was because the waitress was friendly and efficient

Just wanted to say a big thank you to The Gate Hangs Well & particularly Tillie for helping us get out of a forgot the elf situation! We went to the pub to capture the elf having been late to arrive because he got drunk in the pub. Tillie agreed to be in the pictures! All the team were really welcoming & the fires were on so it was warm and welcoming. We also order the Gyro’s which were lovely and great value. Definitely recommend.

Went for golden years meal deal only to be told there was an error with the menu and it was more expensive, but went ahead with the meal. The first course I had mushrooms but they were cold, the main course scampi chips and peas, the peas were like bullets hard and no taste was most disappointing. Very little atmosphere and the room was cold.

Visited during the evening for a meal, the food was lovely but they stop serving food quite early. It was a quiet evening and we didn't feel welcomed by the staff. Won't be visiting again in a hurry which is a shame because I have been many times in the past and it had always been a great experience.

Tuesday night so not busing service spot on 9/10 had the chicken and bacon salad lovely 😘

Called in for a pint and lunch today as in the area. Previous visits have been ok. Asked for the vegan adaptable pizza, which couldn’t be served as all the bases had either milk or egg in. Very disappointing. Ordered the roasted Mediterranean vegetable salad as an alternative - for £13 - it was shocking. Tiny bits of aubergine, no other discernible Mediterranean veg, largely shredded lettuce, carrot , cucumber and tomatoes with a few seeds and a quite nice dressing. It would have been acceptable as a side salad possibly. Really expected better .

Nice pub with a lovely open garden with plenty of seating. We didn't use the function room, but there was an event on and the room looked big enough to cater for a large group/party. Staff were friendly and polite and empty glasses were collected quickly. Easy to find and Parking area was large. The toilets were clean too, which is alway a bonus!

We can't actually mark the pub itself so therefore plz ignore the star rating as its not an accurate picture of the place however we stayed in the field as attended an event in the town but the field was nice and flat and we were happy with the stay.

Visited the Pub with some friends, bought some drinks and sat there for 2 hours, during which the time, the owner/ or owner's partner, did nothing but give us death glares the entire time we were there, then proceeded to earwig and eavesdrop our entire conversation, incredibly rude, glaring your patrons like you would if a stranger walked into your house makes for a very uncomfortable atmosphere, then eavesdropping conversations, and never moving more than 5ft from our table. Well maybe you should think a little harder, i was trying to keep it more professional in the review as i don't think google is the place for personal information, but to give you a hint on when it happened. It was a Jazz Night, and afterwards you decided to lie about the conversations we were having because of your personal feelings towards one of my friends who did absolutely nothing wrong, along with all the rest of us. If this doesn't jog your memory im not going to push it any further, but treating the paying customers with disrespect and lying about them just because of past feelings is pathetic)

Held my sisters surprise 30th birthday party was amazing. The boathouse is a great party venue for any kind of party. We really enjoyed it this was our 3rd party here now and we will definitely be hosting more there 🤍🪩

Went in for a quick pint after football. The landlady was very welcoming even got free ribs. Delicious.

From start to finish Lauren was amazing I’m helping to plan our day. Cassie and all the staff were lovely and so helpful. Special mention to the lovely Sienna who supported us all day, cleaning , serving drinks, sorting the food etc. Such a beautiful soul! It rained on the day but they let us hold our ceremony in their lovely marquee which was perfect and gave it a festival feel. Friends and Family said it was best ‘wedding’ they had been too Will be visiting this lovely pub regularly now as have such happy memories of our special day

Not sure what happened! The food quite possibly was the worst I’ve had in a very very long time. 5 of us out the 6 were very disappointed! Chips were undercooked and stale, the halluomy was undercook, I sent my cheesy steak chips back and they sent the same meal back with everything just warmed up a little more than previously. I ordered the steak and cheese loaded fries which came out with no cheese and what I can only describe as a mouse portion of steak. Put it this way I will not be returning, which is a shame because it looks like such a nice pub from the outside. The staff were friendly.

Nice and easy to find and good parking. Staff were friendly and helpful and made us welcome. As a wheel chair user the building was quite good and I was able to access most areas. The whole party had a really good charity fund raising afternoon. Thank you.

Didn't have food just went for drinks.. Lovely atmosphere, super dog friendly and polite. The staff joked that they actually prefer dogs too people lol, me too! 😆 They also gave our little dog some treats when we first got to the bar, and made a fuss of her, lovely touch.. Garden is super spacious and has lots of nice trees and grass, there is a stream you can sit by. And there are some kids toys dotted about, and swings for children to play with too. There is a little "Dog bar" where you can poor out some water in a bowl too. And it's the first place I've been to that actually has things on the food menu you can buy for your dog, even doggy beer! And dog ice lollies.. Wow they really do love dogs here don't they! 😃 I heard they get busy with Sunday dinners so maybe an idea to pre-book if you want food etc? Lastly for the lovely location, the prices are very reasonable too. Love this place, we will definitely be back again soon!

I had my wedding day in the boathouse and gardens and it was a perfect day, the food was amazing we had so many compliments and the staff were friendly and brilliant for the whole day, I was allowed to decorate the room and garden exactly as I wanted and nothing was too much for them to accommodate. Would definitely recommend this lovely little place for a party or event!

Lazy Saturday afternoon. Stumbled upon this quiet establishment. Has a nice outdoor seating area. Unsure why two separate menus were given, but depends on your seating. The food options are different to the website so you may be surprised. Nonetheless it was a lovely visit with friendly, pleasant staff and table service. Well cooked and presented food. Hoping to eat there again sometime.

Great venue, so many excellent facilities. would make an excellent venue for weddings and events up to 500. Plenty of free car parking. Love the boathouse, which is situated on the side of the river, fabulous area for a private party. Food is great and contains vegetarian dishes too, also special nights. We enjoyed the bean burgers, which are freshly made, with perfectly cooked chips. Service was outstanding.

For such a large pub it was very quiet although it was a beautiful sunny late afternoon. We ordered food and sat out in the patio, the food was delivered to an outdoor kitchen counter, sat there for 5 mins then we got a notice that was our food. Not good enough. I would understand if they were busy but it was fairly quiet

Popped by today for the first time after hearing good things about this place and I was not disappointed the food was great the gardens are beautiful in this weather HOWEVER the one thing that let this down was staff one bar person was wearing a dress that you could see through and it was really off putting

Had my belated 50th Birthday celebration get together here last Saturday 10th June. As it was so hot we all sat outside marvelling at the scenery and chilled out ambience. What better way to enjoy a special day? Highly recommend the boathouse as a suitable venue to hold celebrations. The pizzas all went down well and bar service rapid and engaging. Loved it thank you

Nice pub with large gardens in a rural location,food was nice but very expensive for what it was,if you eat outside it arrives in a plastic basket style tray which when you have a sauce or gravy it spills out,they only serve on plates indoors!

We hired the boathouse a Sunday afternoon for our U14 football team social gathering and presentation. We sat outside the boathouse in the secluded garden. The parents and kids all had a fab afternoon

Nipped for a few beers after work one afternoon and was immediately made to feel welcome. The young lady serving us was called Amber and she was amazing.

This April we had our sons 21st gathering in the Boat House . Everyone who attended said it was a fabulous night Molly and Cassie worked tirelessly to ensure the night went well and everyone was looked after. We had the pizza and chips buffet which was enjoyed by all they even catered for our vegan guests . From the initial enquiry to the end of the night it all went exactly to plan and we thank all the team for a wonderful evening . I have one very appreciative son and we will all remember the evening through the wonderful memories created . Once again thank you all xxx

A dog friendly pub with a very warm atmosphere in winter thanks to good food and an open fire! The meal was delicious...my friend has a roast and I enjoyed a mushroom and mash dish. There is a nice garden which would be lovely in summer. Will go again then as really enjoy seeing the birds in the area around the pub. Lovely friendly staff, plenty of parking too.

The service from the staff was really good but sadly that's where it ends. I had macncheese with a side of twice cooked chips. The macncheese was like gloop with no flavoure at all, really bland honestly one of them super noodle packets is better. Now on the the twice cooked chips, absolutely over sized literally 2 chips was like having a full jacket potato so at that size they were undercooked and had no crispness at all. Nice pub though.
