The Pied Bull in Charnwood

Had a Christmas meal in the marquee, food was lovely as was the beer. I think it was maybe a bit quiet in the marquee though, I don't think there was any music playing or anything (although I could be wrong).

Came in new years day for a few drinks and the atmosphere was amazing staff more than welcoming and food was great. Amazing place well worth a visit. 5 🌟

Unfortunately i forgot to cancel reservations due to a mishap leading to A&E, but the staff were extremely kind and sympathetic. Apologies again for such short notice cancellation.

Went in the motorhome had a lovely evening meal and then walked to the beach for the day. Staff and owners very friendly even the dogs were down. OMG, the pie was a aging.

A lovely welcome from the landlord and the locals. We were shown through to a small but comfortable dining area behind the main bar. Decent choice on the menu. My friend being a vegan coeliac constructed her own meal from the options available, with a colour-coded menu available. My haddock was done to perfection. Chips tasted really good. All very pleasantly presented. I think we've found another place to add to our regular eateries. There is a disabled toilet on level access. There are two or three small steps in the Gents toilet. Parking to the front easily accessible.

Came here for a family meal. Very friendly staff and a warm welcome including a real fire. Good choice of food from pizza and a children's menu. We went on pie and a pint night. Very good choice of beers and ciders. I had the chicken and leek pie and was not disappointed. Already booked to come again foemr a Sunday Carvery. It is dog friendly too

Lovely food served in a traditional village-style pub. Warm and welcoming with a pleasant seperate dining room, we really enjoyed our visit to this place. All the staff were lovely and we'll definitely be going back.

Popped in for lunch with the wife. A really warm welcome and a genuine, proper old boozer with a great lunchtime menu. Good food with a special mention for the apple crumble which was just about the best I’ve tasted. We shall definitely be going back.

I'm always torn when writing reviews for exceptional little gems like this one, as on one hand it's amazing (food, friendly staff and atmosphere), but on the other I know if I share about how good it is everyone will want to go and I might not be able to get a table next time! Go for a Sunday roast, or Thursday steak night and see for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Have been many times, mainly for the food as it’s always delicious for a fair price. The atmosphere is nice and staff always friendly. Nice to sit inside in winter and outside for summer too.

Good food the cob foe the burger could be better instead of those cheap 6 or 8 for a quid fifty but rather good buns or cobs bit the meat it's self is perfect no cheap meat and the madri is perfect from tap do overall a 4.5 but I cant do half's so 5 is better than 4

Lovely home cooked food very friendly staff

Booked a table for 6 (family Christmas dinner). All 3 courses were presented nicely and tasted great. Service was efficient without being pushy which resulted in a very relaxed atmosphere. Thank you and see you again 👍

Good menu with great food and fantastic service :)

We visited here as a convenient location for a family catch up. We were expecting standard pub fair and a good natter. The food however quickly became the star of the evening. Perfectly cooked scallops, fried fish fritters and sour dough bread started us off. These were followed by a wonderful blade of beef, a tasty crumb crusted cod and an amazing chicken supreme. The quality of the food was incredible and amazing value on a very reasonably priced menu. The staff were friendly, the service excellent and the atmosphere was that of a warm local pub. The front of the pub is a bit cramped when you walk in but the restaurant is lovely so don't let that put you off.

Preface your visit with the fact this is a pub first that sells food in the back room, between the bar and the function room. Our visit was loud and food certainly felt like an afterthought, which is a shame for a talented chef. The staff dealing with service was not professionally dressed and was essentially running around trying to do every task, which felt a shame. The fried starters were relatively well seasoned and good in taste however they were straight from the oil to the plate. They needed a drain/rest. The difference in the quality takes a big hit missing this step. The 20oz steak on the bone had a brilliant sear. Seasoning was on the shy side and, with a piece of meat that big, being generous with seasoning is a staple. Medium rare requested and two thirds of the meat was cooked with a well put together wire to wire finish. The third along the bone however was rare, close to blue. Closer attention to the arroser at the bone would have elevated this higher. The chips for the meal left a fair bit to be desired, a rest out of the frier and some seasoning (salt, pepper and thyme) would have made all the difference.

We have just move in to shepherd and we went to pied bull for Sunday lunch with my family it was very good we will be going there again.

This was one of my parent's locals as a kid and I remember my parents even ran it for the owners for 2 weeks back in 1990! As well as it feeling very nostalgic in there the place still looks great and the food was delicious. One of the best Sunday roasts I've eaten out in a very long time. Looking forward to visiting more.

Had a family wake here & gotta say the food put on was lovely, barstaff very friendly & helpful, clean toilets & altogether pleasant atmosphere & location. Will definately be returning.

Excellent service from friendly staff. The food was delish and it actually came out hot. There was a air conditioned room within the pub surroundings to dine but it was decided to sit outside and enjoy the summer evening. Plenty of seating outside. There is a kiddy play area and a large TV to watch Sky Sports. And to top it all off, it's a dog friendly pub (a plus point in my books). I hope to make a return visit very soon. Really enjoyed the food and our waitress was extremely nice and friendly. Good potion sizes for the food, good prices and they had air conditioning! A blessing in this heat wave! Will come again

We came for Sunday dinner. When you first enter the initial room is a bit off putting- a bit smelly and dark - but the restaurant conservatory is much nicer and there is a decent beer garden with a small play area. The food was nice and the staff were attentive.

Me and my boyfriend visited twice in May, first of all for Steak night and then for pie night. Steak night is on Thursday & you get two Rump steaks & a bottle of wine for £25. The meal was delicious & plentiful with lovely homemade chips. Pie night is on Tuesday & you get Pie, chips & seasonal greens and a pint for £12! Plus a nice large jug of gravy! There are at least 4/5 types of pie to choose from. We thoroughly enjoyed both meals and couldn’t believe what great value for money it was. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly. So if you want to treat yourself midweek to a meal out without breaking the bank & with good quality food then go here!

Great food and very friendly service

A great pub with fantastic food, we were here again tonight and two more excellent meals. This time we had a pie from pie night and the pork belly - both superb. Previously we have had steak night (perfectly cooked), pizzas (huge but so good), burgers, sea bass, short ribs as well,as special meals at Christmas and Valentines. The food is always excellent, cooked perfectly and such good value. We will continue to return and would recommend it to anyone.

Visited for the first time, a nice traditional pub with easy parking. Received a really friendly welcome. Great selection of real ales. Food quality is fantastic, all home cooked to an extremely high standard.

A lovely old fashioned interior, clean and a warm environment. Good beer and selection. Reasonably sizes car park. A nice place to visit.

Enjoyed Steak Night but also good that other meals were still available for customers who didn't want a steak. Clean plates all round!

We booked for 17 for an important family & friends get together. COVID twice reduced our attendance down to 11 but Dug at the Pied Bull was fully understanding even though we had to keep changing the preorder. All our guests were delighted with the waitress service and the food, prepared by a fine chef. We even had 3 free bottles of wine on the table which was a very good touch. We would all go there again. Not least, good value for money. Graham Symons.

Ate in the extension bit yesterday with the new chef's menu- fantastic beers, nice bottle of red and the food was top quality! Definitely recommend the chorizo in the light bites. Nice atmosphere in general and very good, friendly service!

We have just got home after having an amazing meal at the Pied bull. Their sunday lunch was delicious, had a starter of cheesy garlic bread it was freshly made and very tasty, for a main we had lamb and pork between us, both equally delicious and puddings we had crumble, fudge cake and a sundae. What can I say, very good value for money. Highly recommend. Looking forward to going back soon

Well what a find took my dad out for a local lunch he had a smaller roast lamb and I had shepherds pie both were delicious. Properly home cooked and tasty. Nice selection of different dishes. Drinks weren’t expensive thoroughly enjoyed it. Will definitely be going back.

Excellent. My husband's 70th birthday was made special by the lovely buffet, with a great selection of food, beautifully presented. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We all had a lovely afternoon, many thanks.
