Stumbled on this traditional pub by mistake, en route to a funeral. In a rush, needed a commiseration card and sandwiches. We couldn't have had a warmer reception. Sandwiches were great and a card was found by a lady on the rota. This is a community owned pub and it stands out and above all the chains, supported by locals. Wish I had a share!

Had a really good Sunday lunch at the Garibaldi today. It’s a very traditional, well maintained pub with a seating area at the back. Friendly, professional staff. Between us we tried roast pork, roast beef, scampi and beetroot and butternut wellington. Also cheesecake and apple crumble with custard. All very well cooked and presented, sizeable portions at a reasonable price for this area. Highly recommend eating there.

Found this beautiful little pub by chance, myself, husband and daughter went in for drinks and decided to try the menu for lunch as it sounded yummy and oh my word it did not disappoint we had the homemade curry and it was absolutely amazing, it was as good if not better than a proper Indian restaurant, (menu was one side Indian and the other side a mixture usual homemade foods found in pubs ) which I can’t wait to go back and try 😍 Such a wonderful place !! Staff where lovely friendly and helpful, lovely decor inside nice and cosy and most importantly very clean toilets.

If you're looking for a hidden gem in the heart of a local village, the Garibaldi is an absolute must-visit. This charming pub has a warm and inviting ambiance that instantly makes you feel at home. The rustic decor, complete with wooden beams creates the perfect backdrop for a relaxing evening with friends or family. The staff are friendly and attentive nature adds an extra layer of warmth to the already inviting atmosphere. The Garibaldi offers a delightful mix of classic pub fare and Indian cuisine, and the food is fantastic and great value for money. Vegetarians will be delighted to know that there are plenty of options available and there is a suitable kids menu too. It's a true gem that delivers on every front. The cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and fantastic food selection make it a standout choice for locals and visitors alike. Whether you're in the mood for a comforting pub meal or a flavorful Indian dish, this pub has something to please every palate. Worth a visit!

I phoned on Wednesday evening to enquire about the menu for the following evening. I was told it was Chilli night and a few choices were mentioned. I requested a booking, which was accepted and when we arrived were told there was no food being prepared on Thursday. What is the point of accepting bookings? We won’t give them a second chance.

We came on a warm September evening for the fish and chip van, which I had preordered and paid for. If it hadn’t been for that I’d not have stayed. We sat outside in the astroturf beer garden with a small group of locals who obviously knew each other and the barmaid, who sat with them. All the tables were filthy with full ashtrays. And plenty of butts on the floor. I ordered a glass of wine that was undrinkable. To their credit they did swap it out without quibble for another but served in the same glass. The food was ok and we ate it straight out of the packaging for hygiene reasons. We left as soon as we could. I couldn’t believe how bad it was so I looked it up online and I think it’s a community run pub. All I can say is I bet none of the community has any hospitality management experience.

I have gone to the Garibaldi many times especially under the previous owners who always provided a warm welcome and delicious food 7 days a week. Unfortunately under the new management I have to write a very poor review of a so called Sunday roast and very poor service too. A bit like Fawlty Towers that was filmed around the corner in Bourne End. When I first arrived it took ages for someone to come and ask what we wanted to drink and we were then left for 15 minutes before I had to ask if someone would take my food order. We both went for the large roasts turkey and beef with side vegetables. A couple of locals walk in get drinks and service snd their roasts before us, when our vegetables and roasts arrived they were cold and the meat rare. We had to ask for the meat to be reheated. When I was asked if I wanted another drink they did not have any more Merlot. When our food did come back it was just about edible. We were left for ages after we had finished our mains and had to ask for pudding. The apple pie was reasonable but we had to take our empty pudding plates to the bar as we wanted an Irish coffee and after waiting and no one collecting our empty plates we were then told their coffee machine was not working. Please bear in mind this pub only offers home cooked roasts on a Sunday and the rest of the week they get in out sourced caterers. The so-called land lady did not come around to ask if the food was OK or to welcome new clientele and the pub dog is allowed to roam around and sniff your food. Needless to say we will not be returning but we recommend the Cricketers at Littlewick Green for great service and a fabulous Sunday roast.

We returned to The Garibaldi this afternoon; possibly a year or more since our last visit. The changes were encountered were unfortunately disappoints. On our previous visits we enjoyed a welcoming, clean and well decorated good value eatery. Today, however, it felt like we possibly stepping into someone’s sitting room, where most of the family appeared to be huddled around the fire; with a “noisy” crèche in what was previously a pleasant sunroom/conservatory. We ordered drinks at the bar, a very pleasant lady served us and we asked for the lunch menu. We were presented with laminated copies of the current menu, unfortunately neither were clean, both had beers or similar stains. We decided not to order food and are completely disinclined to return. A very disappointed visit for us both.

We ended up moving tables and then outside when that didn't muffle the obtrusive music.Under new management? Really? Mid week meal hoping to find somewhere local to support so we headed to the GaribaldiFirst impressions from the outside were ok - could do with a little tlc in the front garden area but nothing majorThe lady who served us was friendly enough but from the point of entrance our hope for a quiet evening was not to beThe landlord was " holdng court " and again whilst pleasant enough ( he greeted us a hello ) was loud to the point that we asked to move tables so as not to be so closeI more than appreciate that mingling and being sociable is a major part of the role but this was acted out with the disregard or consideration of other diners. My partner and I almost ate in silence as it was preferable to having to repeat ourselvesFood was ok - quality of the meat in our burgers was below par but decided to just eat and go - accompanying salad appeared to be mainly coriander leaves - might be a suggestion to have something more generic as not every enjoys that distinct tasteSadly we will not be returning

My husband ordered the chicken with bubbble and squeak (unfortunately it looked nothing like the photos) my beef came rare so I had to send it back and instead of taking my husbands meal too they just took mine and by he time it came back my husband had finished his meal otherwise it would have been cold. When Tony and I arrived I was amazed as we were shown to a large table which had been reserved for us with a lovely heart shaped reserved sign made out of slate. There was a very nice and friendly table service there. We both really enjoyed a very popular spicy and sweet dinner called Bobotie, a classic beef South African dish cooked with Malay spices, onion, apricot and sultanas, baked with a fluffy egg topping served with rice and Mrs. Balls’ chutney. I had looked on their website and knew they offered a good range of South African menu. We were not disappointed. The wait for our order wasn't too long. The food came out hot and was served on very hot plates, so much that one of our guests needed to put her fingers in a glass of cold water and also required some spray for burns, which the pub had to hand. The desserts were great too except I was looking forward to the pear and berry crumble and custard so was very surprised when I found that the fruit in the crumble was rhubarb! Following a spontaneous visit to The Garibaldi we were delighted to find it returning to the informal but wonderful pub that had impressed us some 18 months before. We enjoyed excellent food prepared by the new chef Jason, and a warm welcome and friendly conversation from Lucy managing the bar. We are looking forward to renewing our 'regulars' status. Well done to the new team.

I go to this pub a lot. They have music, front and back areas, a warm fire and do food. ( Including Sunday roast). They are also children, family and dog friendly. What's not to like. I occasionally go for a Sunday lunch here, but today I went on a Friday night with my family. I tried the pasta with cheese sauce. It was to die for. They have a wide spread of foods but I would definitely recommend this. If you don't want to go for food, have a drink or a snack. Everyone who walks in, goes out with a smile. It is also a great place for a party and sometimes have entertainment. Just last week they had Morris dancers. Everyone is very friendly here and just like one big family. I ensure you will like it here. Alice age 11

We went for Sunday lunch. Great atmosphere and really friendly staff. Good choice of wine and some craft beer. Roast beef dinner was generous and tasty. Chocolate tart was absolutely fantastic and we will definitely be going back soon.

I really don"t like leaving negative feedback but come on guys. I had called and left a message to book a table a while back but the call was not returned so I figured okay, this place must be popular, so persevered! The place has zero atmosphere and you just don"t get looked after. A nice hello, or even a not so nice goodbye when you come and go would be a start. A real shame.

We just wanted a coffee and sat down and saw the couple next table having Mussels. We went Tuesday and ordered "Tuesday Mussels" they seem to have Mussels each day so don't know what these were. They were brilliant and we, who have eaten this dish all over the world, both recon they were the best we had eaten. Small pub owned by the villagers of Hedsor (1/2 mile from Bourne End and Same to Cookham. Small pub with large car park at the back. Worth a visit for nice food and well kept bar. Staff very friendly.

Was excited to hear the Garibaldi was under new management & had started doing food again , always been a highlight of this country pub.The menu was concise but enough choices. We went for the traditional roast , pork belly and beef. Both were well cooked and generous. Came with heritage carrots, cabbage and big Yorkshires. Wine choices were again not extensive but well thought out and enough to match the food on offer. The owners were really friendly and am pleased the Garibaldi is thriving again. Nice traditional pub with a cosy feel and amazing views from the garden. Will definitely be back.

We were invited to a meal here one cold Friday evening in March with friendsWe were cold and asked if fire was going to be lit as all ready (laid) and the answer was no which appeared odd. The place rapidly emptied out by 9pm so lacking atmosphere that none of us opted to stay for puddings/coffee. We have since heard its rarely open and no food until new tenants are foundShame for a community owned pubHopefully they will tailor the food option in the future and make customers more welcome and want to return as it was a lovely pub over 20+ years we have lived locally and want to see it survive

This is a fabulous pub, that needs to get better known. The mussels are the best we have ever had, so fresh and plump, can't recommend them enough. The menu is good, not too many choices, everything freshly cooked. We have never been disappointed. Brownie pud is really good! Very friendly welcome, and good service.

While in the area this was on my list of places to try, a late phone call to the pub helped us a secure a table, I would rate it good, my wife very goodWe started with an excellent bowl of mixed olives and some delicious artisan bread £3.50For main, my wife opted for the haddock in beer batter it was large and extremely delicious, served with very good hand cut chips and a nice tartar sauce, the mushy peas were quite minty (wife likes mint) so perfect.((£14?)I went for the pork belly served with black pudding, apple purée, coriander potato cake and bok choi/Yazu, (£15)the pork was beautifully cooked, unfortunately I personally found the combination of flavours detracted away from the meat, I had a slight bitter after taste.we were tempted to try a dessert that looked very inviting(crumble looked very good £6)But didn't think we could find the room.Total with drinks came to just under £40(nis)Service was goodWhen we return to the area we will definitely try again

The food is undoubtedly excellent. As visitors to the area, we weren't sure if the pub was open as the curtains were drawn and no obvious signage outside to say whether or not food was being served. We did however try the door and luckily for us the pub was open and serving food. I was a bit dubious at first as it was a chilly night and asked if there was a fire. Yes there was a fireplace but disappointedly no fire. We had the same experience the following evening and I sat with my coat on for a while! Having said all that, it's great this pub has been rescued by the community and no doubt should provide a hub for the community. Please take this as positive feedback and best wishes for the future.

We have eaten here on several occasions and the food this time, as always, was excellent. However, having requested a table near the open fire, it would have been nice if it had been alight, as it was a very cold evening. We did ask for it to be lit when we arrived but there was a rather lukewarm response to that. As a result there was not much atmosphere in the pub, so we left as soon as we had finished our meal. Disappointing in that respect.

We ate on a Saturday evening, a lovely roaring fire welcomed us, well stocked bar. The food was outstandingly delicious, great menu choices. I usually always order a fish course but was drawn to a lamb starter which was incredible. Friends had mussels and squid which they said was very good. Main courses ordered were all fantastic - rib eye steak, pork belly, haddock and chips and ham egg and chips. All 4 dishes were 10/10 the chips deserve a mention they were really good. The wine list was very good. The bill at the end was very reasonable, we had a great meal - couldn't fault it really.

Due to a parents evening we arrived later than expected (just after they'd normally close the kitchens). Thank goodness they called us and the chef agreed to stay late. My wife had fish cakes and I had pork belly with black pudding. Oh and mustn't forget the luxurious chocolate brownie with pistachio ice cream and steeped cherries. I rarely write reviews (most of the time restaurant & pub food is pretty average), but wanted to do so on this occasion as the food was fantastic. Unlike many, more expensive restaurants in the area, they genuinely care about the quality of the dishes produced. Honestly - I've not had excellent food like this in ages. Local ingredients, cooked with care and attention, presented well. To top it off the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We've been a few times and will continue to do so.Rescued by the locals a few years ago and given a new lease of life, we can't recommend the place highly enough. Bravo Garibaldi!

Mother of the Bride shopping trip in unfamiliar territory......frock purchased for the price of a small house deposit......"we need a celebratory lunch!!". The Garibaldi was ranked #1 in the area.....the kerb appeal is not the best but inside it is a warm and cosy pub. Friendly and attentive staff and a menu which seems a little out of step with the room and decor. Warm Scotch Egg, Mac and Cheese with truffle oil, Devilled Wild Mushrooms and Chicken and Avocado Salad for starters......all 1st Class!! Mains of Fish Finger Sandwich, Sea Bass and Ham, Egg and chips sound like simple fare.....not at all!! Ingredients, preparation and presentation all top drawer......you could pay a lot more in a pompous environment and struggle to match the quality of our lunch. Well worth a visit.

I visited the Duke of Clarence a few months ago and had a very average experience, service was slow and the I had to send my food back twice. We were back in the area on Saturday and decided to give it another go and we are so pleased we did! I had the crab linguine and my partner had the chicken burger and we couldn't fault either; the food was extremely flavoursome and the service very accommodating - I can only assume there's been a change in staff, but big compliments to the chef! Look forward to coming back soon!
