I’ve been going to this pub for decades and it would be really nice if the management stocked up with some alternative beers (American IPAs or craft beers) whether that is in a bottle, can or on draught. Aside from the usual cooking lager the only decent choice is Birra Moretti on draught. Throw a few pale ales in your fridge, I know the margins will be the challenge but you’ll be surprised and people will pay £4+ for it even in Heywood. And when is the food coming back! This is one of the few Heywood pubs with a nice beer garden and it needs food to make it worth walking to. Please

Been going to this pub since I was a kid in the 80’s. What was once a busy pub with a great atmosphere and duke box is now on a drip being kept alive by its immediate locals. So sad to this place in this terrible condition. The long wooden tables have gone and the chimney is not clear as the wood burning fire fills the pub with toxic fumes or so it feels. This is a crime for such a previously great place with so many memories. The views over the fields from the beer garden have gone too. 😭 in need of complete refurb or closure. Please refurb🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Called into here with my girlfriend for a nice chilled Sunday drink. Got charged £15 per bottle of wine, which later discovered are sold for £4 at Aldi. Once in the beer garden we had finished our bottles, one of the staff members came out to tidy, abruptly accused us of bringing our own wine in because she didn’t even recognise the bottles. Very rude staff member called Julie.

I visited here tonight out of curiosity as I've not been since it reopened last year..... I walked through the overgrown garden to meet my party, there were empty bags of crisps on the grass, a diesel can in the hedge an upturned picnic bench and a burned out mattress in the corner..... I nipped inside to the ladies with my daughter and the inside appeared to be much the same.... dank! Dreary! Lifeless.... what a shame as this place is walking distance from my home so I've used as a local for years, food has always been great, lovely atmosphere.... oh and going back to its current state..... they need to get rid of the rats living underneath the smoking deck...... like previous have said, could be a great pub if they invested some money into it!!!! I won't be rushing back soon, even though they've got new outdoor signs, they don't fool me!!!

This pub has had a number of managers/owners over the past 5 years and another company has now taken over in the past couple of months. The pub is in such a great location and has massive potential but it needs a major internal refurbishment (it has needed this for over 5 years).. Ideally the pub also needs extending as there is a lot of land around it that it could have a conservatory or orangery built using some of the garden space. Food wise it is hit and miss, but recently has been ok. Inside just feels like it hasn't been cleaned and the toilets are some of the worst you'll find in a pub. They need a complete refurb as well. If someone was prepared to invest in the structure then this place would pay the dividends.

Walked to the gardners for something to eat today, sign outside says food served 12-7, arrived at 3.30pm to be told the chef had cleaned the kitchen ready to close! I queried this with the sign advertising differently, to be told we could order! There was no chicken left for sandwiches so ordered 2 ham and cheese toastie and chips, there was no bread left so offered ciabatta instead, ham was cold and the cheese was cheese slices and not proper cheese, the chips however were tasty.

Opted for a change from the White Hart which is just down the road from the Gardeners Arms but will not be doing so again. Staff friendly enough and the ale was good but not good value at all. With hotel priced drinks, charged £5 for a pint of ale and a small lemonade. The food was poor and expensive. Chose the 8oz burger and skinny fries at £9.95 and it wasn't even worth half that amount. Considering it took an age to arrive the fries were limp and not even cooked enough and the burger didn't even have any lettuce, tomato or onion on whatsoever, just a scraggly piece of bacon.

This is a pleasant local that has undergone several change of management, and the present ones are doing an excellent job serving up good food at very good prices, and in a pleasant atmosphere.

Visited last night as we'd seen an offer on the facebook page for the new gardners arms, we had the 8oz burger and the hot chicken and stuffing sandwich with chips. Both meals were nice, proper home cooked chips too, served with a generous side salad. The 2 for £12 meal was a fab deal too. Only little moan was in the menu the burger was meant to come with skinny fries however came with standard chips. And although it was advertised as being on offer 5-9pm another couple car in after us, just after 8pm to be told the chef had gone home. So worth checking direct if planning a late visit. We'd go again though

Went last Sunday was bitterly disappointed with the food had the roast the only thing that was cooked was the Yorkshire pudding and that was burnt if cook had spent more time in the kitchen than he did behind the bar watching the football with his friends we might of had a chance of getting something that was edible will not be using again

We have visited this pub for many years, however, sadly recently it has taken a turn for the worst. We are sat here having just finished our meal. We started our visit outside in the garden but the noisey music forced us inside. We tried to find a seat away from a speaker, blasting out The Sex Pistols at full blast, but couldn't as speakers were at every corner. We awaited our food. When it arrived we asked if the music could be turned down just a touch. The waitress asked one of the barmaids, who scowled at me across the bar. My husband had fish and chips which was very nice. I had the tuna cheese toastie. It was tasty but quite dry as the bread was very thick. The accompanying salad was thick with a very hot and spicy dressing. Nobody came to ask if our meals were ok, if they had i would have asked for a plain salad. When we had eaten, the surly barmaid who had scowled at me earlier came to remove our plates. She didnt bother to ask if our food had been ok, she didnt actually acknowledge us at all. In recent times we have had some terrible food here but have kept coming back as we have been coming for so long and kept hoping it would improve. Sadly, this will be our VERY LAST VISIT!!!!

Had to write review for this place we had such a good night here with live music, dancing, friendly staff and very entertaining approachable regulars, would highly recommend!! On leaving the pub a guy who worked there who I can only assume ran/owned the pub came over and shook our hands and made sure we'd had a good night which I thought was a nice personal touch! would definitely go back

Very disappointing. Food was poor. Gammon overcooked. Chips were like cardboard and almost cold. Fried egg was broken so offered a replacement which arrived when meal was almost finished and contained a huge piece of eggshell that couldn’t have been missed during cooking 😡 the build your own dessert for our 6 year old came already built so he was disappointed as well. Poor service. We will not be returning any time soon which is a shame because it’s a lovely pub in a beautiful location 🥲

Nice selection of small plates (tapas-ish) for £11 was good value. The ones we chose were very good. Rather limited real ale selection but again the one I drank was a great brown ale. Overall I was impressed and would go again.

This takeaway sandwich cafe serves fresh food. It is very clean and well staffed. The only down side is the parking as it is on a main road but if you know the area there is a small car park at the rear.

Amazing service! Amazing food! Couldn’t have asked for a better evening with my family. Staff were always there when you had a question or just to simple ask you how you are and to get to know you. Food was outstanding and atmosphere was great. Can’t wait to go again!
