Very good coffee and cakes - and ice cream. Really lovely staff and so friendly, we visit regularly, they don't even have to ask what we would like - coffee and cake in the morning, ice cream in the afternoon - we are so predictable. A big thank you to you all.

Communication! Arrived in a lovely looking little cafe, ordered breakfast rolls, sat down...about 30 minutes later we were told that they had no hot food as they were waiting for a delivery?!? Coffee was lovely but the lady in charge should have spoke to customers not leaving up to a young girl.

Sólo muy pequeño pero con un montón de asientos al aire libre. Buena variedad de aperitivos y bebidas. Precio razonable. Frecuentado por las mamás y sus pequeños, ya que hay un pequeño columpio cerca. El personal es siempre encantador

The very best kept secret in Cheltenham. I was there to visit Dr Edward A. Wilson, Antarctic explorer [one of Capt Scott's men] and found the Garden Cafe in the local Parl. Excellent food with a great and wide selection of good quality food. The sandwiches were an art form. Also the tiffin was the best ever. It is worth a visit to Cheltenham just to visit this fine cafe.

After taking the grandchildren to Montpellier park play area on such a hot day, we decided to get some refreshments from the cafe opposite. On entering we were met with a pleasent welcome & a brilliant smile from a lovely lady that explained the board menu including the range of ice creams available. The cafe looks small from the outside however it reminds me of the "Tardis" on the inside which has a seating area. It has a lovely warmth to the building. We ordered a flat white, a bottle of water & two children's ice creams that were bubblegum & vanilla flavour which got a thumbs up all round from our little experts! The service was a delight. The ice cream recommendations were a hit, the cakes & sandwiches range looked fairly impressive. We will surely be back to sample even more in this hidden gem.

Pleasant day spent in Montpellier gardens ; little gem . Visited the cafe to get refreshments. Oh dear what a change ; not very welcoming ; staff rude . Confusing system what door to go in ; where to wait for your coffee ? I see they’ve had a refurbishment since my last visit however I was very disappointed in the set up . Where have all the lovely staff gone ? Sadly I won’t be returning; such a shame.

Just visiting Cheltenham for the day from Bristol we chanced upon lovely Montpelier Gardens. The sun shone. People smiling and happy. Dogs enjoying walks. All very relaxed and pleasant. It was close enough to lunchtime and there was the Garden Cafe. I’m a bit of a fusspot (or is it connoisseur?!) of sausage sandwiches/rolls/baps etc. We ordered a couple. They were superb. The meat wasn’t over-seasoned with herbs...regular pork sausage, not Lincoln or Cumberland. Hurray. The lovely roll had been lightly toasted. My husband suggested a tiffin bar which we shared. Wish we’d got a couple! It was rich, velvety and slid down very easily. I’m not really a cake eater either. Friendly staff. We arrived at a good time, so no waiting...anyway, we were in no hurry. Can’t wait to get back there one day. 100% recommended. The cafe and lovely environs. An unexpected gem. Surpassed my expectations for a park caff. in every respect.

Am hoping the owner who kindly replied to my last review reads this. Have been back 3 times. First time was about 20 mins before closing, one member of staff spent their time clearing up, putting away tables and chairs leaving the other member of staff having to take orders, make drinks etc and quite a queue formed. Second visit - long queue as the member of staff who was clearing up during last visit, this time was stocking the fridge leaving the other member of staff to do all as above, eventually that member of staff asked for help making the coffees. Brownie very dry. Third visit, queue was out the door, painfully slow service saw our coffees put on side in kitchen (as others did) member of staff on till not told they were there. People enter by either door and because one has to wait at side of till for coffees and the cold drink cabinet is there, it gets very chaotic. Could not buy an ice cream from inside on this occasion ("only from ice cream counter") but on previous occasion could! - why? Don't usually have cash on me so wouldn't have been able to purchase one from the 'proper' counter, as they only take cash. Montpellier park is such a lovely place to go and we enjoy having a coffee there but our recent visits have now put us off using the cafe. To the owner - I hope you are not too offended by this, just think a few alterations would improve the cafe.

Sadly all the lovely staff have gone, Lorraine who was there, was simply the best. The interior has changed - in some ways it's better, but not others i.e. when I asked for skimmed milk the lady who served me poured it in, far far too much for my taste,I didn't drink it, last year you could put your own in. No doubt it will continue to do well but how I miss the staff.

Although I have written about this cafe under Montpellier gardens, I felt I should write a review solely about the cafe. You will not get better cakes, coffee or ice cream anywhere in Cheltenham but what stands out are the staff, nothing is too much trouble for them they even remember that we only like one shot in our coffee. All the staff seem to be really happy to work there I just wish other establishments would go and see for themselves how a cafe should be run. Thank you all for a great summer. My grandchildren always ask to go there 'because of the nice lady'

This cafe is so convenient, right next to the children's play area, and they take card payments! On my last visit I noticed they offer dark hot chocolate (and milk and white)! A rare treat! It was delicious. The sandwiches and cake / bake selection are good too. My toddler loves the fruity flapjack.

We stopped here for a quick drink in the sunshine as we were pottering around Cheltenham. We had a drink but also a sharing platter which was surprisingly good! I saw surprisingly as we were peckish so thought we'd stop and share this between 4 of us and the quality was really good. Drinks are only served in plastic cups - I understand why as it's a park but it was a bit of a faff as the tables were wobbly and drinks spilt a bit. But it was fine.A nice short stop over.

This is not a cafe I go to often in Cheltenham (where I live), partly because there are so many nicer places to have coffee in the town. On a very sunny day, if you have children playing in the park, or are visiting one of the Festivals it is an OK place for a drink and a sit down, although chairs are a bit limited. There are public loos nearby.

Was driven out by toddlers today. The new staff are aggressive and unhelpful at best. There are now only tiny tables, not big enough for food and drinks. Gone are the big tables with quality parasols. The coffee was so disgusting I took it back, I didn't want refund none was offered. I was simply told nobody else had complained! So I guess they thought I was lying! This cafe is now just an extension of the playground. Such a shame I used to love going there for breakfast with friends when the kind people that ran it before were there. I won't be returning and I will be telling everyone I know about the drop in standards.

Best bacon buttie in town cheapest too! The fried egg buttie is also quite good I am informed. Come here a couple of times a week. easy to have a cuppa with a dog in tow, as tables and chairs outside much more pleasant than in town. Staff always friendly and they have a loyalty system in place every 10th drink is free, i think. Would come him anyway for bacon buttie!

Lovely cafe right in the middle of Montpellier Gardens. Serves a variety of food, drinks, ice cream etc. Visit here almost every day. Serves the best flapjacks (apricot and almond) which go down perfectly with a tea or coffee. Ask exactly how you want your latte etc and they will try and oblige. I also come here to book tennis courts in the gardens. Overall an absolute delight.

The Gardens Café is an unpretentious café situated in Montpellier Gardens. It has a few tables and chairs for customers to use and enjoy the pleasant sunshine and watch the world go by. I called in here a few years ago whilst visiting family and now ensure I squeeze in a visit whenever I am in the area ever since. Set in a beautiful park in Montpelier, it's my favourite place in Cheltenham for a cup of coffee (as well as their vast selection of teas), a slice of scrummy homemade cake and a substantial sandwich; all freshly made and very good value for such quality! The staff seem to genuinely care about the food they make, and I've often bought on recommendation or whatever has just come out of the oven. It's impressive to see everything made on site and a refreshing alternative to chain cafes who continue to serve boring, soggy sandwiches alongside predictably disappointing cakes. They also do a blinding job of feeding the masses at special events such as Cheltenham Festivals, plenty of ice cream for kids and adults alike in the summer and warming hot drinks in the winter. The ideal cafe!

I've always found the staff extremely friendly and welcoming, the sandwiches super nice and prepared with care - not just slopped together. I've actually taken home recipe tips in the past as the staff have a real passion to keep the quality high. The various cakes are delicious and of course, it goes without saying that the park is really lovely, so the setting ticks all the boxes. Absolutely lovely - and if you ever want to try anything a bit different - ask about their bacon and maple syrup popcorn milkshake - sounds like a bad idea, but tastes like a dream!!

A step back in time to a fantastic pub with candles on the table. Ambience galore. Didn’t eat there but have plans to in the near future. Update: Went back to try the food, but didn't get to eat. The place was empty apart from two regulars and freezing cold. The room temperature matched the frosty and passive aggressive reception from the barmaid. Shame.
