The Bottle of Sauce in Cheltenham

My first visit to The Bottle of Sauce during my stay in Cheltenham was at a lunchtime, primarily to check it out as it was a venue for free gigs during the Festival ( for those not aware the Jazz Festival is three or four main venues around town where you pay to see the big hitters, then lots of other venues including a Free Tent on the main Montpellier show ground, where you get to see bands for free), and I confess on this lunchtime experience, with not many in, I wasn’t that impressed. But then I returned in the evening after dark ! Its not obvious at first but as well as the main bar room and the additional room to the back of this, if you leave by the door to the right that leads to the outside courtyard area with its bench tables, there is an additional long rectangular room called The Canteen. At the far end is the kitchen but at the near end is a small stage. During the day the room is full of additional bench tables, but on gig nights these are removed and this becomes your live music venue. So I returned when the sun had gone down to find the pub packed and the main bar area resembling vertical drinking only and not a seat to be had in the back room and the courtyard. Fortunately the evening crowd of youngsters ( compared to me) were not here for the Jazz and a Latino three piece who had packed out the Free Tent earlier in the day at the main site had plenty of space left in The Canteen for us to slip in and enjoy them in relative comfort, as it was the following evening with another band. On the beer front a few decent Dodo branded craft options for the Millennials and Arkels beers were on the pumps for those after an ale and Hoperation IPA and 3B were available alongside a cider on the third pump and the IPA was a pleasant session pint to sup whilst watching the bands. So this is very much an evening pub attracting a youngish crowd, but during the day it can be a quieter option for a pint and some lunch compared to those pubs in or near the pedestrianised sections of the Cheltenham centre. Perhaps next time I’ll visit for one of the burgers everyone raves about.

Always like this place as food is amazing. Went last night and the food was just dumped on the table on a tray by waitress. She said nothing and walked way - no plates or sauces offered. Very messy food to eat without a plate. A bit disappointed as food is excellent.

We visited for lunch one weekday and only pizzas were available. It was a little disappointing but only until the food came! The pizzas were delicious and they packed up the leftovers for us to take home. Great little find and worth a visit!

My friend and I had the best burger and garlic bread ever! Bottle of sauce is the best burger and pizza in town! Amazing service and fantastic chefs thank you ;) We demolished the food! Thank you see you guys soon!

Great burgers, especially the Korean chicken burg. Venue has tons of seating and good for families as well during the day. Service was hit and miss though… arsey, or sarcastic, and for no real reason. Weird.

Honestly, I hardly ever leave reviews but in this instance I'd be crazy not to. Myself and my partner are great foodies so we popped in for lunch yesterday afternoon. The gentleman behind the bar was so helpful and reassuring about my allergy requirements and the young lady serving us was a complete delight to us and all the other diners. We both had burgers (mine bunless and allergy friendly, with avocado and pickle in replace free of charge!) and in all fairness one of the best burgers we have ever had. Rosemary fries on point too 👌 Excellent selections of beer and ales and Carnival craft cider to wash it all down. Really could not fault the entire experience, keep up the awesome work!

Great place. Staff brilliant and super friendly. Dogs welcome. Big outdoor seating. Food fabulous. What else do you want from a pub. Highly recommended.

A variety of drinks including some brewed locally, and a very good pizza that was delivered promptly. People in there are nice. Dog-friendly which is always a plus. A good place to be and deservedly popular - it is also very central without being too close to the shouty main drag.

Pub da "movida", senza servizio al tavolo e conseguente affollamento al bancone per ordinare e gustare delle ottime birre. Si va per bere e per la compagnia, ma il food si fa apprezzare. Menù limitato ma "di sostanza", con ottimi burgers e una pizza niente male (che in zona significa molto buona...). Per una serata in allegria va benissimo...

The Bottle of Sauce offers the best burger in Cheltenham, bar none. Friendly staff and good quality food, with great beer on tap. Always a pleasure, looking forward to my next visit.

The burgers are the best in Cheltenham by far. The chicken burger is phenomenal! The pizzas are awesome too. Good section of beers and cocktails and the staff are always welcoming

Great pub with nice decor, good selection of drinks and lovely atmosphere. Wish it was my local! Only let down by one of the bar staff who seemed to have issues with doing his actual job, said it was a long day and wouldn’t drink a toffee shot because they tasted s***. Could have done without his attitude which was as bad at 7pm as it was later. Don’t know his name but he was about 20 with a blondish mullet ….. other bar staff fantastic. Shame he spoilt it

I googled ‘best burgers in Cheltenham’ and this place came up. They’re not wrong….. the most amazing burgers and fantastic service. Paul is very inviting and helpful. Will definitely be back to try the pizzas. Thank you.

Large corner pub with extensive outside area both covered and open air. Seemed to cater mainly for the under 40s, but nevertheless us older people felt very welcome. Restricted menu of the “pop up kitchen” style, with burgers, wings, pizza etc. All very nicely serves and cooked. Beer good as well.

What an amazing place is this! We are visiting from Essex and we managed to get a table for the Euro Final. The staff in this bar are so friendly and welcoming and let us move tables to have a better view and atmosphere when another booking didn’t arrive. Special mention to Beth who was fantastic and gave us the perfect service, what a credit to the team! Next time we’re in Cheltenham, we’ll be back!

Great pub with live music and great food which was reasonably priced - Service was also friendly and fast.

Visited with the family when in Cheltenham to see my daughter who is studying in the university in the town. Her choice, based on what she had heard as positive recommendations from others, and we were not disappointed.Under CV restrictions we were allowed to eat inside but had to order through the app for table service. This made things a bit more impersonal, but did not detract from the experience too much.We kept it simple, with three of us having burgers and the other having a pizza. The burgers are very big, so great value, and having seen the size of them delivered to a neighbouring table it was a sensible option to cut down on the number of side portions... although I would thoroughly recommend the truffle fries as they were delicious.Had to sample the pizza as well, and it was great.Washed down with a couple of pints of craft cider (for me) and other ciders/lagers for others, we left fat and full but very satisfied.

We visited when you could only eat/drink outside. The staff were very friendly and attentive (even allowing us to order without the app) and the atmosphere was great. Will definitely be coming back.

I really like this place! My fav in Cheltenham, good vibes, location, garden and good pizza! Prices good as well, very recommended

Went to the venue as I’ve been many times before, as it’s still during a time that COVID is around, it was table service though I had to order on a company card, the man who served us was very accommodating and helped us to order on the company card! He was so nice and great, he deserves a pay rise! I hope he has a happy Christmas and New Year, thanks to him and the staff durning these hard times for being so lovely and great! Thank you again!

Waiting staff are lovely and super helpful and the pizzas are one of the best in Cheltenham! This has become one of our go to choices I would highly recommend.

Le expliqué esto a la señora que decidió discutir el punto y cuando le expliqué por qué no podía usar uno, me miró de arriba abajo, sacudió la cabeza y se alejó. Pésimo servicio y actitud hacia los clientes. Hay una manera de manejar estas situaciones y este fue un ejemplo de cómo no manejarlas.

Only popped in for a quick drink. The Arkell's ale was decent. This is probably more of a food place but I didn't feel unwelcome just having a drink.

Really solid food. Burger and fries were to a really good standard. Great small menu. Prices reflect Cheltenham

We stumbled upon this place while out exploring Cheltenham. It’s quirky decor and vibrant atmosphere immediately drew us in! The staff were friendly and up for a giggle. The beer is great and the burgers and quite frankly the best we’ve had!

I ordered a burger from here tonight to takeaway and it was delicious. I had a bad experience at Holee Cow so I went here after and had a much better burger. I can definitely recommend.

Great big industrialised pub with a great choice of beers and different areas to sit. Service was great (especially the lady that was taking orders with crayons) the screen for the rugby was well placed and easily viewable. We all had burgers which were good and if you're a smoker a decent courtyard outside. Enjoyed our visit.

Great food and atmosphere, but our server was constantly sucking a lollipop, not even removing it when speaking to us? (Shoved it into her left cheek). We were worried about drool going on our food (as what happens when sucking a sugary lollipop) and it is just incredibly poor manners to have your mouth full when speaking to customers. You would've got 5 stars otherwise...

Cheltenham has loads of choice of places to go but this is a bit special. If you like great ale, quirky atmosphere and socialising with the locals then check it out. Recommend the Dodo lager which is a bit like a pale ale crossed with a lager. If you like posh and plush then this is not the place for you!

Awful service. Only popped in for a beer. Barman silent and basically huffing and puffing. Threw my card down on the bar after I paid. Extremely rude. Bad experience. Won’t be returning.

Visited here for the 2nd time when visited Cheltenham, this time specifically for breakfast. Easy process. Order and pay at the bar and they bring the food over when it’s ready. I had avocado and poached eggs on toast and it was lovely. It was served in a timely manner and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly.

Really good burger and cheese truffle fries. It was burger Monday so great value for money. Great flat white coffee fast service and cool staff. Definitely will return and recommend.

We booked the games room for a party of 25 on Saturday for our son's 21st birthday. From the initial contact to when we left late Saturday evening, they couldn't have been more helpful. They decorated the room with everything we had earlier dropped off which was a relief. Everyone's food was delicious and certainly did not seem mass produced. All in all a really great experience. I would thoroughly recommend.

We went there a few times for a breakfast which was fantastic.I'm not not vegetarian but had veggie breakfast-very tasty.Kids enjoyed their waffles with berries.Very friendly stuff.Very glad we discovered this place

Atmosphere is good, the place has cool decor and is very fun. We came here on a date, we had a burger each; the big 'd' and the Al Capone. We shared some chips and chicken wings. The burgers were very tasty and succulent, I loved the sauce on mine which was spicy but not too overpowering. The chicken wings were great, very juicy and smothered in sauce. I was glad this wasnt a first date as I had sauce dripping down my hands. Chips were quite crispy and yummy. Service was fast and the crew are funny - can't believe I fell for one of their jokes!

Came here with friends for a chilled Sunday lunch. We'd taken them to a local BBQ place a few months beforehand and apparently set the bar high! We were absolutely not disappointed, even my 4 and 7yr olds cleared their plates which is unheard of. I was pleasantly surprised to find the place so family friendly.

We decided to give Bottle of Sauce a try as we have friends coming to visit in a months time and this was on our short list of potential places to take them and the kids.

Very good amazing burgers staff very nice and friendly would definitely recommend this place. Prices around average for drinks I would definitely recommend the chicken burger Yum. Thanks again Brian.

I was put off by the benches when I saw the table I had booked but soon forgot about that. The coffee was lovely and the food excellent. The young man who brought our food was very pleasant and helpful, service with a smile!

We fancied a little bit of lunch before we came home.

My uncle and I recently attended the Cheltenham festival and came across this fine establishment while looking for somewhere slightly off the beaten track for something to eat. We had pizzas (one with fennel sausage and the other with chorizo) which were delicious helped hugely by one of the nicest pizza doughs that I've ever had. This was accompanied by a couple of pints of a fine local ale that the barman kindly allowed us to try before choosing. I left my glasses behind and the pub kindly offered to post them to me back in Ireland. We'll be back again next year for sure.

Must say Rob hooked us up big time Saturday night! It was my mates 30th and he let us set up a beer pong tournament in the back room and supplied us with all that we needed!Everyone was fab! So nice to see a team of staff where their main priority is ensuring you have good night! Cheers guys !

Dropped in after a bit of culture at the art gallery next door. Really nice atmosphere, full of all sorts and I mean that politely from mum’s and buggies to old people like us. Very patient and knowledgeable bar staff. We were in a rush so did not eat but the food and especially the pizzas looked good and we were intrigued by a “dirty pancake”. Hopefully we will return.

Always tasty food, great menu, good service and atmosphere. The truffle fries are amazing! 10/10!!!!!!

We’re probably here at least once a month for lunch on a weekend. The food is always great! And the staff are super friendly. We can take our dog (who gets fussed over) and there’s always a good atmosphere. Have been as a couple and with groups of friends, never disappointed. There’s a private dining room you can hire for free for a large group and another room with ping pong table and phooseball. One of our favourite places in Cheltenham

Warm welcome, lovely beer selection, great vegan pizza, and the January special "tofu or tofu, can't believe it's not buttermilk" is the absolute best vegan burger I have ever eaten!!!!

Went here for a family gathering and the staff looked after us so well. The cocktails, pizza and cheese & truffle fries are delicious - you have to try them!

I love this place. The staff are always friendly and I have never had to wait long for the food. Came here for lunch with the children - the kids build your own burger, and pizza were a big hit and reasonably priced.

I often go to Bottle of Sauce on my lunch break but it was great to visit for a weekend brunch with the family. The chicken and waffles were just fantastically tasty. This place has a good vibe and kid friendly in the day.

From the moment of enquiring about it the service was brilliant. We had a private room and were not forgotten about! The staff and atmosphere were great. The food (not drinks) was overpriced for we had but would certainly go there again due to the atmosphere. Thank you for looking after us.

Have been a few times and always enjoyed drinks with or without food. Lots of real ales, reasonable wines and also cocktails for those who wish. I would describe food as “posh pub grub”.

Bottle of Sauce have it just right if you are looking for great atmosphere, a nice pint/G&T;/soft drink and hand cooked feel-good food at a reasonable price.

Decent customer service goes a long way and we have just received most unfriendly service from a young lady with a right face on her just because I asked to have my pint topped up because it had a rather large frothy head on it! Great place, just please have a word with your grumpy staff!

The buffalo chips and wings are amazing, even the cob salad bowl's amazing. Very friendly staff, and dog friendly! Amazing!

Saw this place reviewed on The Food Plug and thought I had to try one of the burgers. I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed with the Al Capone. The staff were really engaging and friendly which is always a pleasure. I imagine I'll be returning in the near future.

Big pub, with good atmosphere. Liked the blues music playing. Great hand pulled beer and not too expensive. Food was good, maybe a bit expensive, always dislike having to pay extra for sides.

I have been here a few times now with friends and family, they do great burgers and on Monday night some are just £5.00. They also do a happy hour Monday to Friday 5-7.

Asked for a drink with no ice but the barman put ice in it. Asked him to remove it and he just dunked his hand in and pulled the ice out! He then stuck his soggy hand out for my cash. Ended up leaving the drink as I didn’t know when he last washed his hands, I can’t see why he couldn’t use a spoon or tongs or actually listen to my order in the first place!

I keep coming back so it can’t be that bad! The food is great and they let dogs in, those are the biggest pluses for me!

We visited early Sunday evening. It was quiet but had a really lovely atmosphere. The staff were really nice and the burgers were very tasty. Really enjoyed it.

We decided to try out the new brunch menu at BoS. As always, the food was great - we had the chicken and waffles (the tabasco honey was a show stopper!!) and the smashed avocado (the lemon feta was excellent). My only bug bear was the coffee - an integral part of brunch for me - which was mediocre, if a little bitter. It would be good if they would offer milk alternatives.

The women waiter (short hair) is stuck up and just thinks she knows everything, the women she was training was lovely and trying to help but the other kept dissing her and being rude to her. The food is nice and also the building. There’s a lot of middle aged people and men and I wouldn’t want to go alone. Not really a location for young people.

We visited here with our son & daughter and their respective partners following a recommendation. It was a quite busy Thursday night and we had to wait to get a table. There was a great range of drinks on offer while we waited. We ordered and had to wait about 40 minutes for our meals, but the waiter did come over to apologise for the delay. The food was excellent, hot and tasty, well presented and well worth the wait. It wasn't cheap, but not ridiculously overpriced. Well worth a visit.

I booked my birthday party for 25 people very last minute as I was let down elsewhere. The staff were very accommodating, laid back and friendly. The food was fantastic and very quick. Everybody loved the vibe and I had a fabulous birthday. I can’t wait to go back and work my way down the menu!

Went for late dinner and drinks on a Friday date night with my husband. Very cool atmosphere and nicely busy. DJ volume was definitely too loud, though, at least in the first two rooms. Food was really tasty but burger was surprisingly small. They gave us too many portions of chips by accident, and were feast about accepting fault and bring cash refund over to our table. The guys working there were fab; really friendly and helpful, genuinely cared about the food and service. Will definitely try again.

The Bottle of Sauce has recently started serving breakfast on weekdays so we decided to visit as a family. We were welcomed with a smile and service was really good overall. Great veggie breakfast plus particularly enjoyed the brekkie buns. Waffles were also delicious, light and fluffy. Recommended.

A really good selection of beers and really amazing burgers. Try the buffalo fries - they are something else!!!

After hearing great things about this place me and friends decided to visit this Saturday afternoon for a bite to eat only to be told on our arrival at 4pm they don’t serve food until 6pm! I can understand closing the kitchen during the afternoon on week days when It may be quieter but think this is disappointing on the weekend. Great shame and we had to take our custom else where.

Love this place, great atmosphere, great food, good selection of drinks. Gets busy but that just adds to the vibe. Table tennis and the enclosed outside seating area are the icing on the cake.

I took my son there for a end of year 6 treat with my wife and daughter on the evening 21/07/2018 The staff behind the bar were welcoming and helpful and made the occasion feel extra special for my children and made them feel included and welcome. The speed of the service was second to none and also the food it’s self was amazing. This was my second time and my first with my children and we all agreed it’s one of the best places we have been, especially with the warmer weather and more people being out. I will defo be going again with my children and I highly recommend it.

One of the finest establishments this country has to offer, been to bottle of sauce many a time and the food they serve is top notch. Bar staff are the friendliest people you will find and the ambiance is unmatched. Really is a place that all people are welcome, and, should go try

Great drinks (love the cocktail menu and the beer selection), great atmosphere, and consistently the best burgers in Cheltenham. This visit coincided with the Cheltenham Jazz festival and it was great to have live music while we stuffed out faces! Keep is up guys - we'll be back (again and again!).

I think that the bottle of sauce is one of my fav place in Cheltenham! Not only the location is cool but the food is delicious too! I’m Italian and I am quite demanding when I eat pizza. I can say that here it’s very good! The dough is good, mozzarella could be better! The veggie burger is very good I love the events that are being held in this place

The burger WAS insane! A slow roast lamb burger with halumi some minty thing and some coriander and a bit of sour cream, great but where's the rest!? No side, no chips literally a bun with a filler for £10.50!!! Seriously double digits for a burger??!!

I literally love the food here - only grumble is the chicken wings could of been warmer - but they tasted so good I literally didn't want to say anything. My friend said his burger was one of the best he has had and he is seriously fussy. This pub is seriously good consistently.

Margherita and Mr Melanzane are delicious! I am Italian and for me the pizza is the best in town. Lovely place and amazing food.

Ok for a quick cheap lunch. Female staff pleasant and welcoming but a sour faced rude barman spoiled it a bit. He's in the wrong job. And that stupid industrial tap for water is ridiculous, can they not bring it to the table or give it to you already filled.

Ate here with friends on the weekend - they were busy, but still had plenty of space despite the weather, which was great. Very relaxed dining area, though bring a jumper when the sun goes down as it did get a little chilly!

This place is great for amazing food and a happy vibe. It has a feel good atmosphere and the staff are all really friendly. Between us we had the buffalo wings , buffalo fries and pizzas and all the dishes were so tasty. The pizzas are very thin base and made extra tasty by the slight charring of the dough. Will definitely be returning.

Juicy burgers and the chips are also awesome. Leave this place so full every time and if you go during national donut week you have to have the salted caramel donuts!!! Heaven!!

Been going here since it opened and it has maintained to be a great place throughout. Always great service, always clean, always great food and good staff.

Visited for the second time, busy on Saturday lunchtime with lots of toddlers in the bar area?? Guessing they had a lot on, food was tasty but only just warm burgers which was a real shame. Did tell member of staff when he asked but we think that upset him more than concerned him.

Went here specially for the burger offer they do every Monday. The burgers we had were all excellent, really juicy, full of flavour and high quality. They were a delight really.

I’ve been here the past two Sundays and really enjoyed it. It’s quieter, but still very friendly and lots of space to spread out with the papers.
