This was our second consecutive Friday visit for the early evening bargain menu. We both had the excellent smoked haddock, leek & asparagus risotto followed by lovely mango panna cotta. Where else can you do this and (should you so choose) watch a bowls match at the same time? The bar staff are friendly and welcoming. We have also been here for our wonderful garden club annual dinners, our weekly yoga sessions and occasional coffee & sausage roll meetings with friends. How do they do it all so well? I'm glad they do. Warwick Jones

The Gallows was advertised as being open until 10:30pm and last orders for food at 5:45, yet the entire building was locked up and closed before 5:30! This isn't the 1st time either. On several occasions, the Gallows has been closed before its advertised time. I find it very difficult to have a conversation with the staff about the club not having much custom ( to be fair, you have to be in there by 12 noon to stand a chance to use the place) when they pick and choose when they close so customers will stop using. Very poor when there is a campsite down the road that would probably bring in a lot of trade, but they drive past as seems always closed

We had Christmas lunch here and the food was shocking. Salmon roulade starter was 3 thin slices of mushy salmon roll smothered in a very sharp dressing with stale brown bread with some sort of spread( not butter) scraped on. Turkey was dry and chewy, pigs in blankets burnt, potatoes inedible and vegetables with exception of parsnips were hard and cold. Not much gravy only thing that wasn’t terrible was the stuffing. Absolutely appalling given the price that was paid. If this is an example of the regular fare here the place should be shut down.

Brilliant roast pork dinner served as takeaway as we have dogs and in motorhome. Great value can’t wait for our next visit. Many thanks Team Gallow.

We booked a table for Sunday lunch and boy was it good! Our plates were full of yummy vegetables (6 in all) , five slices of meat (I had pork) roast potatoes and a huge yorkshire pudding. We scoffed the lot. The restaurant i nicely decorated, spotlessly clean and for those who may have read of someones comment about plastic tablecloths, take no heed, they didn't spoil our meal! Efficent and very friendly staff, nothing was too much trouble. Miss this at your peril!

Friendly staff but all a bit quiet and the bar and restaurant lacked atmosphere. There was a good choice of menu items but surprised at the prices for a restaurant and bar affiliated to a sports centre (plastic table cloths = budget prices). The food was OK but was disappointed with the Wherry beer (real ale through electric rather than hand pulled pump always underwhelms). Has potential to pull in more of the campers next door if offered better value......and improve the beer!!

We went as a family for Sunday roast. The beef and pork roasts were amazing value and very generous portions. I had the fish which was excellent. The venue was clean and airy overlooking the racecourse. Plenty of parking, disabled access clearly signposted if needed. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend, phone to pre book as was nicely busy.

Just been with our Wives Group for an evening Carvery. The food was first class and everyone enjoyed the meal. Sarah and her staff made sure our evening was enjoyable. What more can I say first class food and first class service.

This was not only an excellent lunch, the meat and vegetables were cooked brilliantly but it was also great value. Service was good and it made for a great family outing. My advice is to book early as they were having to turn people away.

We came here a few times a few years ago for a carvery and it used to be sooo nice. We came for Father’s Day, walking in it was very quiet to how it used to be as it was always so busy. The lady serving didn’t look like she wanted to be there. The beef was very dry and over cooked, the turkey dry and the pork fatty and no cracklings. Roast potatoes soft, Yorkshire puddings were just cheap frozen ones, few veg to choose from Most of which was over cooked and tasteless guess was frozen. Gravy watery... stuffing balls horrible. Need I say more total disappointment to be honest.... such a shame as used to be sooo good! Found out the people have changed who used to cook and wish I’d read reviews on here first!🤢

Had dinner here whilst staying at the racecourse, We both opted for chicken pie, which was served with mash and peas, the pie was very generous serving, probably a little too much, but was ok, would have liked a nice veg to accompany it, saw other meals come out with brocolli and carrot, so they did have veg, dessert was syrup sponge pud which was nice, not enough syrup but was a generous serving, staff were lovely, chatty and helpful, but wouldn't rave over the food.

After going to a wedding reception for close friends I can honestly say I felt they had totally let the guests down! I feel sorry for what should have been one of the best days of their lives! 2 course meal consisted of waitressed service to top table (1 of which a baby needing blended food) the other 58 guest's to go along to a carvery unit to get their own meal! Over 1 hour and 45 mins to get everyone served!!! Outrageous!! Staff that couldn't even smile! Turkey or pork were the option of meat , yep that was fine although a little worrying that couldn't tell the difference between the 2 although not sure how the pork had been cooked as not a bit of colour to it and fat that resembled slime.Roast potatoes that were more the size of wedges and not a bit of crisp to them. The vegetables were tasty! Gravy tasted ok. No salt or pepper to be seen on any of the tables had to ask the waitress who just didn't appear to want to be there at all....yes we know it was a very hot day we were all on the verge of melting but as far as I am aware we all remained polite and cheery and battling the said heat to. Not a fan in site and although requested was swiftly told we can't plug any in anywhere as no sockets to use! Tables were being cleared while others had only just managed to get their meal and sat back in their seats. Desserts started to arrive....Well what could be wrong! 2 simple options Apple pie or strawberry topped cheesecake both served with cream! Well Apple pie not quite what any of us were expecting tinned tasteless sliced apples with a small square of pastry sat on top ,not quite sure where the pastry had been stored prior to placing on top of apples but it was like a piece of cardboard unable to cut and inedible. So onto the cheese cake, warm, claggy in texture yet sweetened by some strawberry topping was also tasteless. Not sure how long this has been out of the refrigerator as I have always know cheese cake to be chilled yet again another disappointment. Finally food finished cleared and onto the evening. Tables cleared oblong tables brought in to then be put around hall for day and evening guest's to sit around within the hall.not a member of staff in site to help!!! Family, friends and even the bride and groom were left to set up and arrange the seated area whilst all staff seemed content to be seen chatting amongst themselves in the kitchen area. Bar seemed very limited in choice and staff very slow to serve or clear empty glassware from tables inside or outside or at one point they were all just lined up on bar patiently waiting to be noticed. Sorry for the long review but I along with a lot of very dissapointed people felt That all in all The newly weds were let down miserably by the team at The gallows. I hope that lessons are learned before someone else's big day is such a disappointment.

We have been going to this restaurant every Sunday for a carvery for about 2 years and the food has always been very good. Unfortunately the people who ran it finished two weeks ago and it was taken over by new people. The first week, it wasn’t good, the second week was terrible, at £9.50 per person and a further £4.10 for a sweet we definitely will not be going back.

Visited the Gallow on New Years Eve with my wife, children and in-laws. My wife is gluten free so we told the restaurant in advance. When we arrived the staff were very attentive and had made gluten free cauliflower cheese, gravy and Yorkshire pudding. The carvery was very good and the desserts were excellent. Ok it is never going to be a Michelin star venue but the staff made an effort and made us feel very welcome and when visiting the in laws again we are very likely to go the the Gallow. Thanks for great customer service.

We called in advance to reserve stable at 2.15. The veg was fresh and hot and was not over cooked. Plenty of meat to make a choice from and a large selection of veg. Crunchy roast potatoes and yorkies. The dining room could do with a bit more coziness but the view is superb. It was our second visit and we will be back for sure

If anyone is thinking of having the gallows lancaster room for their wedding reception i wouldnt bother, from day on we were messed about with the catering, then on the day they ruined my day with the food that was never provided and my wedding cake being completely ruined all because they couldnt be bothered. We had a cold meat/ salads style lunch which quite frankly was dreadful with hardly any salad or the desserts we asked for and staff were quite rude and the last tables got less than what the first tables did, we was then told constantly to hurry up with cutting the the wedding cake as the lady who was in charge wanted to go somewhere else. This was then all cut up which didnt need to be and the coffee that was put out which was an hour later than we had asked for it was absolutely awful and the service was very poor. Coming on to the night if you look at the picture below is meant to be a finger buffet for 85 people with two bowls of chips 36 pieces of quiche a pate cheeseboard(which was meant for lunchtime) and a bread basket which was dry. Asked the staff why their wasnt much food to get spoken too rudely and then they brought out a few other little bits. All in all the food was dreadful and very little amount. We had agreed that they would put our stuff all nicely to one side to be picked up the sunday morning. and This is how our cake was presented to us in 2 big freezer bags which at the time the manager was disgusted. Went for a meeting last week to discuss our complaints etc to be spoken to like we was something they stood in and was told by the lady in charge of catering she wasnt going to be taken for a ride by someone like me who was never going to pay the full balance (someone like me?) Absolutely discusting customer service considering they had had nearly £1100 off me to be told i need to pay the rest. I was also told that the reason my cake was put in bags was cos it had been left uncovered all night and there was flies all over it. Why the hell give it back to me and not tell me about the flies for me to let my kids eat it. This has spoilt memories of the day as i shouldnt have to deal with food etc on what was our special day.

We attended reception after nieces wedding blessing. The room looked very pretty purple & white. Tables decorated nicely. The cake also sat on table with purple & white decorations . We had fairly small dishes of salad, new potatoes & rice salad on tables. We visited end table where there were joint of turkey & gammon (hot) and 2 vegetarian quiches . This didn't look generous as a lot of tables. Food was good but not enough. Puddings also were good but not over generous portions. After being seated a glass of prosecco was given to each of us not sure if waiter thought toast was being given before meal which it wasn't so was warm & flat by the time toast was done. My niece had thought of everything activity packs & children's entertainer. She had also made pretty butterfly napkin rings and small cages for Chocs to accompany coffee. Which wasn't served until a long time after meal had ended. The buffet which was supposed to be for 85 in the evening was so small more like children's party. My nephew was accused of being drunk & aggressive when he complained and as he doesn't drink was ridiculous. When my niece went along to fetch cake next day ( it cost £180 and was 3 tiers of hearts) it had been what I can only describe as jammed into plastic bags. When my niece complained she was accused of trying to rip them off and they didn't expect her to pay them they had already had a hefty deposit and they were very rude alluding to people like her! Whatever that was supposed to mean. I feel that the very least they could do is provide the price of the cake so she could give her guests a slice in the pretty boxes she had got . Also she was told that the cake had been covered in flies this was why they put cake into plastic bags. Surely they were responsible in keeping cake covered as it was on their premises. I feel what should have been a wonderful day for her her her husband , family & friends Spoilt. She had worked very hard to earn the money for their special day and to be treated this way is disgusting

This is the type of service you get from a so called very good venue the buffet was supposed to feed 85 people and this is how you get your cake back after it had been left out all night with flies all over it. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place for anything.

This is an excellent 3 star hotel, close to all entertainment and facilities. Rooms are kept spotlessly clean, clean towels every day, free wi fi and tv, entertainment every night in 3 separate bars. Food good, only complaint was that although the rules say no sleeveless shirts and shorts in restaurant in evening, many guests choose to ignore the rules. Would recommend and would stay here again.

Whilst this place is just outside the town of Fakenham, it is a good place to eat. Decent bar menu or themed nights like curry night or pie and a pint. Nice surroundings with three eating area in the main lounge, over looking the indoor bowls or in a private space.

Great cafe, one of the best we had been in on our 2 week holiday. Cake selection was enormous, coffee tasted great, toilets sparkling clean & friendly service. I can see why it's so popular, highly recommend!

The meals were really overpriced and disappointing, service staff were very friendly and we didn't want to complain, but a couple of the meals were pretty awful to be honest, and the rest of them barely passable for £16 odd quid each. A lentil and mushroom stew for £18 that was barely a starter size; a child's pasta for £9 that was eaten in 3 mouthfuls. All round, really delighted with kelling heath facilities, and the woodland lodge is fabulous, but the restaurant really needs an overhaul. As others have said, a captive audience shouldn't justify such overpriced poor choices
