The Full Moon in Newark and Sherwood

I have been to The Moon today ..meeting my friends. The food was superb. The staff were amazing. Can't wait to go back there.

Arriving at about 1.20pm last Sunday we signed in via the NHS App. It appeared we weren't going to be acknowledged so asked where we could sit or stand and have a few beers. Astonished to be advised that "We are too busy to serve drinks". There were empty tables [other than they needed clearing] and there were no other customers who appeared to be waiting. Irrespective it is a Pub! Obviously the Lockdown hasn't hit all Hospitality businesses that hard [Apologies to those we know have been suffering] if business can be glibly turned away.

We went for our sons Birthday, The food was excellent, especially the starters. The covered area is cosy and has two heaters.

Another fantastic take away tonight. Tempura prawns and Rogan Josh. Lovely meal, beautifully cooked and more than enough portion wise. Thank you x

The staff at The Full Moon have gone above and beyond throughout lockdown to provide great food and service in very difficult circumstances. We have had a number of takeaways, all excellent. It is a simple pre-book and collection service and the staff are very Covid conscious. It is the treat of the week that we most look forward to! Our children love the food and they are always willing to amend orders to suit individual tastes which makes life as a parent so much easier. Can't wait for the doors to open again, so we can make the most of the outside seating.

Just had an amazing takeaway for 4 this evening! Genuinely restaurant standard and served really hot and wrapped so well that after a 10 minute journey home, the food was still at a great temperature. We had a range of fish meals, pie and the street box, all of which was so tasty. Can’t recommend this highly enough and at a time when we can’t go out to eat, this really is the next best thing! Thanks and well done!

Having recently moved to the area, finding a decent pub takeaway for the family was a priority. This place did not disappoint. Both times, all 3 meals have been freshly cooked and tasted great. Will be back, and can't wait for the pub to open properly!

We waited about 40 minutes for our food and it took 20 minutes to clear our table despite only a handful of customers. Waitresses were just dawdling about and had definitely noticed we’d finished eating. Poor service.

I’ve been here 3 times in the last couple of months on Mondays to make use of the Eat out scheme. The food is fantastic and am going through the menu. I took the kids and parents today who are quite picky!!The burger was fantastic, loved the liver and mash, and the chicken and parmentier potatoes was best meal Mum has had in months !!!Great service and will be back again

Had a meal here last Wednesday. All four of us had different meals and all were really tasty. We had the earlybird menu, good choices~ I would happily eat any of the mains. I am not telling you about my favourite dessert in case they run out! Going again next week. The pub is very clean and the staff are all lovely and welcoming.

Today we went to the Full Moon for the wife’s birthday as it came recommended. On arrival we were met by a young lady who looked like she had been dragged through the muddy fields. The food came out very quick and it was top notch. The only downside was the poor service from staff I think the owners must have been away.

We booked a table early Sunday morning and they managed to squeeze us in ( and the dog). We both had sirloin of beef and it was cooked beautifully. Even the veg was perfect. The pudding was awesome. I didn't know whether to eat it or take a picture.. So I did both :). The staff were friendly and I could not fault anything. Give it a try!!

We ate here as a table for 4 this week in the early evening midweek. We decided to have the Early bird menu as it looked great value and we weren’t disappointed. Every course we had (and they were all different for each of us ) was delicious. I was a little surprised that a number of the prices on the website for the main menu were significantly less than those in the restaurant though eg lamb rump £3 difference. Perhaps they have just been increased and the website need to catch up? However, as we opted for the early bird set menu and we also got the £10 a head Eat Out to Help Out government discount it wasn’t an issue for us! Overall it is a lovely, friendly establishment with very tasty food. We will definitely return.

Again we had a great meal for 6 of us, was worth waiting for, lovely staff and host, the food is excellent, will be there again very soon.

At a time when the hospitality industry is under pressure and many pubs claiming to be desperate to stay in business, I found it astonishing that when I visited on Saturday (18/07/20), I was refused food because the kitchen had closed 20 minutes earlier! However, as a favour (that's how it felt) they could give me cheap oven chips...very kind of them (I say sarcastically). Hang on, am I to believe that no member of staff is capable of making a sandwich? At this time in particular, I would be bending over backwards to make sure I could get every last penny from my customers...my kitchen would open all day! I now have no sympathy for any pub who says they’re struggling when this is their attitude…obviously this pub is thriving and doesn’t need the revenue. Why not hire someone (£10 p/hour?) to keep the kitchen open and offer at least sandwiches which yield around 100% profit? Very disappointed.

We had an amazing takeaway Sunday lunch shared between 2 households to celebrate a family birthday. After pre-booking during the week and making our food choices we turned up at the allotted time and food was delivered to the car to keep social distancing requirements. Food is delivered on plates deep enough that the juices didn’t go everywhere, gravy was provided in take out coffee cups and pudding in plastic containers. Quality and quantity was fantastic, the roulade was a hit and the main course meats were divine. The Full Moon have done a great job of adapting their service to provide a solution in such difficult times. I have enjoyed sit down meals at the full moon in the past and this was as nice. I will pay a visit again at some point when they fully reopen.

Parked in their car park and called in for lunch after a three mile circular walk, we chose from the lunch deal menu which was a starter and main course for around £13:00. The menu was varied and we weren’t really sure what to expect, we were blown away, the food food was stunning and the service just as good, we couldn’t manage a sweet which would only been any extra couple of pounds, we will go again and I would recommend a visit to anyone.

Absolutely love this place. Took other half for his birthday and I must say the food was excellent, it has a lovely atmosphere, staff great. Will definitely be back

We ate here on Friday 28th March. The atmosphere was great with some live (but not intrusive) music early in the evening. The food was excellent, and I would recommend the unlimited mussels....awesome. Great service too from friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff.

We where three mates grabbing something to eat and drink... The food was awesome- , Wednesday special with steak and creme Brule.. Superb food and masterly cooked! And the service was just as good, the waiter, I'll call her Tinker bell, made us feel special and it was good fun.. We enjoyed it and will definitely come back .. all the best from the Norwegian

Wonderful pub. The food is excellent. Good selection of drinks. Service superb and attentive. With its open fire, it has a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended. A special mention to the lunchtime menu. Yum! Thank you.

Booked in for Boxing Day lunch. Firstly had to battle to get to the bar due to the amount of dogs and owners (I love dogs but come on it was Boxing Day when most people would be dressed accordingly visiting for a nice lunch in the restaurant). Secondly we weren’t seated in the main restaurant area. Had requested when booking not to be next a family table - to be next to exactly that! Thirdly we asked if the beef would be served pink and was informed it would. When it arrived it was dry, overcooked and tough. Couldn’t eat it. The rest of the meal was basic. At this point we’d had our day spoilt and decided to cut our lunch short thus not bothering with pudding. The manager did apologise and said our deposit would cover the starter and a glass of wine. We ended up having to cook a meal once we got home.

There were 6 of us who had the lunchtime 2 course menu. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and would definitely go back there again.

Attended my son's wedding on 2nd November. The whole day was amazing! Cathy, Paul and their team worked so hard from start to finish. The venue is intimate but great for a small wedding. The food, well what can I say. Absolutely fabulous. So much so many people have said it's the best food they've ever eaten at a wedding including overseas visitors that attended. Well done Full Moon for making it a very special day. Would highly recommend

We came here for a family wedding and we had a fabulous time, the venue was so pretty the service was impeccable the food was probably the best we’ve ever had at a wedding, including our own! For an intimate celebration I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Full Moon, just perfect.

A very attractive and welcoming village pub. There were plenty of friendly staff on hand and the excellent meal came quite quickly. This rates as one of the best Sunday lunches I have had in a long time. Well worth a visit.

Visited today for my wife's birthday and had a great time from the minute we arrived. Margaret made us very welcome and made our visit something special. The food was excellent, the drinks served very professionally and the whole experience was memorable. Thank you to all at the Full Moon.

Nice, relaxed welcome. Short, but very satisfactory lunch menu. A la carte also available. All food very tasty and well presented. Timings just tight. Very good value. On a wet, Wednesday lunchtime we thought we made a good choice of the Full Moon at Morton.

My partner and I, plus my 2 children came here for Sunday lunch. We pre-booked as we know it can be busy. Our waitress was really friendly and helpful. We were served drinks very quickly and our meals were also served in a nice amount of time.

I telephoned to book a table here last minute for fathers day and was pleased to be offered a suitable time, after which I viewed the website but I could not see a specific Fathers day menu only a Sunday lunch menu with reasonable prices. We arrived slightly early and were seated straight away by a friendly waitress who took our drinks order for which we didn't have to wait too long for considering they were very busy! I was slightly surprised by the fathers day menu with set prices for 2 and 3 courses with exactly the same food choices as the Sunday Lunch Menu but quite considerably more. I am aware that some places increase prices and offer 'special' menus for certain dates, however this was neither advertised on their website or any social media page and it wasn't advised when I called to book. We went ahead and ordered the 2 courses and all the food was delicious and we were all very impressed with our choices. The total bill was around £25 more than the regular Sunday lunch prices which was slightly steep, however I would visit again but maybe check the website information is correct? The service was good throughout up until we had finished pudding and were left with empty plates as the staff stood talking between themselves behind the bar, obviously it had been a busy day but this should have been expected. We eventually just went to the bar to pay and went elsewhere for another drink.

We have eaten at the Full Moon many times in the past and have never been disappointed, so it’s about time we added a review. On a quite busy Thursday evening we had an excellent three courses - good choice of beers & wines to compliment delicious Camembert shared starter; wide choice of excellent main courses and nicely presented desserts. Service was friendly & efficient. Along with reasonable prices this is a quality country inn well worth further visits. Probably will need to book at weekends as it is deservedly popular.

My son and I ate here two days in a row. The food was fresh and tasty and the service was warm and friendly. It’s a dog/horse friendly pub with water bowls etc. Would happily eat here again if we are in the area - We stayed at the Blue Barn which is only 1/2 mile away.

Went with friends from the village. Good food reasonably priced loved the Tempura prawns. Had full BBQ rack of ribs very tasty. Couldn't manage more than half, other half was wrapped for me to take home (made a lovely sandwich the following day)

Not only does this lovely pub have everything you might wish for - friendly atmosphere, good and unassuming service and great choice of lovely food for all diets - it is also dog friendly. They went the extra mile to help with a problem we had with the dogs which was very much appreciated as they did not have to.

We had a great family meal at the full moon. The food was delicious and piping hot. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

After being told about this place I visited on a Monday for lunch and wasn't disappointed. Good layout, good menu, good service and really good food. Can't wait to visit again.

Visited with the family on Saturday evening for dinner , great atmosphere as the pub was so busy luckily we had booked our table , the menu and specials board had plenty of choice and the food was all delicious ! Will most definitely be returning x

Having had an amazing meal last time and repeating the 30 mile round trip. We were very disappointed this time to say the least. The red wine was tasteless . The service was painfully slow. The lamb was extremely chewy. We complained about the meat and one meal was refunded.

Despite its out of the way location this hostelry has a very good following. For a very good reason, it serves really nicely cooked food in a very inviting environment, dog friendly in the bar area. A free house to boot, if you are in the are give theFull Moon a go

Stunning accommodation with a bed to die for, one of the best evening meals I’ve eaten in a long long time and a breakfast fit for a king. A must if you’re in the area

Myself and partner had visited this pub last September and had a great experience. We left feeling we'd had one the best Sunday lunches to date and were full of compliments for the Full Moon Inn. So much so, I was really keen to return and bring my family. Upon our return today, to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. After calling well in advance during the week to book the table and explain one member of the party dining with us was Celiac, I was assured that this was something they were more than prepared for and had plenty of gluten free options or alternatives, however once it came to ordering the food it became clear this was not the case. There were no alternatives just items removed from the menu. The service from each one of the three waitresses that served our table was poor, two of the main courses came out missing items stated on the menu and the meat was fatty and overcooked. We felt like an inconvenience, and the lack of atmosphere made us feel like they would prefer us to leave ASAP. Overall it was a very disappointing trip, and after being wowed on our first trip here we doubt we would ever return after the experience we had today.

Fabulous! Good food and great service. Lovely venue for a family celebration. Kids (from 3-18) all well catered for. Would definitely recommend The Full Moon. Keen to come back soon...

Super NYE party, great food, service and music. A lift home by the super staff topped off a brilliant evening. Will be back for more.

Many establishments make a lot of noise about their Christmas and New Year packages and are never able to fulfil the hype. The Full Moon at Morton, just outside Southwell in Nottinghamshire, advertised several packages over the Christmas and New Year period and, if our experience on New Year’s Eve is anything to go by, they delivered in spades. A lot of satisfied customers will be eagerly eyeing an early return. The food was excellent in every respect, good portions, well presented and perfectly cooked. The management have clearly trained their staff well, they were welcoming and ultra-efficient. Beatles tribute band The FAB 4 recreated the sound and played and sung all the famous hits, dare I say, at least as well as the originals. All in all, a great night and an ideal way to see in 2019. Needless to say, we will be returning very soon.

My mother lives a short walk from here and so I have been “Going to the Moon” for around 30 years. I have seen it change ownership many times over the years and today’s owners have got the right combination of restaurant with a good, locally-sourced menu to pub where people come for a drink. There should be more stools at the bar but that’s OK. Service at dinner was very good, food was great, wine list was fairly varied and reasonably priced so overall we came away glad that we had chosen to eat here again.

Fantastic atmosphere, food, views, service. Loved this place for lunch with family. Fantastic starter, main, and pudding plus the wine choice was lovely. Real fires, fab service. We will be back. Xx

We met up here with a couple of friends for an evening meal, beautifully decorated for Christmas. Good choices for vegetarians, three of us chose the mushrooms for starters which were great and two of us had the aubergine dish as the main which was excellent. Lovely open fire and friendly atmosphere.

Visited here for lunch, having previously had a really good experience on a Monday. Firstly, it’s great that they allow dogs in. They were very welcoming and the car park was fairly busy for a mid week lunchtime. Always a good sign. We went for the lunch menu. £12.95 for two courses and very healthy portions they were. Mushrooms on ciabatta to start for us both and then fish and chips and goats cheese tart for a main. Service was really informal and friendly and we didn’t feel rushed or pressurised as can be the case at times. Gave us plenty of time to catch up and for the dog to have a snooze after her walk. A really fabulous pub in a little village and I am sure we will be back again.

Popped in on spec and enjoyed a very relaxed and pleasant lunch. Good food, attentive service at a very reasonable price. Looking forward to returning for dinner on New Years Eve.

We all had brilliant meals, served in a private room. No pressure to hurry between courses, from the excellent staff there! Highly recommended!

Lovely pub, friendly staff and nice ambiance. But the food choices are appalling for vegans and extremely limited for vegetarians. The only vegan option for me was a olive/tomato/bread dip starter, which was extremely poor. One olive resembled a prune and the watercress was limp and yellow. However my son who ate a meat dish (steak pie and mash) enjoyed his food and rated it well.

Enjoyed a great family celebration at this well run pub. The staff did us proud for a 90th birthday meal. The pub had just catered for a sizeable lunchtime wedding, but were able to accommodate us in the late afternoon, and honour the original lunchtime menu offer.

We attended for a Family Event at this quaint out of the place countryside inn.

ne of our favorite pubs. Very friendly staff who try to please. Beautiful pub, nice garden, peaceful, pretty village setting with nice local walks. Children's play equipment. Good range of Fentiman's drinks & guest beers. Never tried to order vegan food as never appears to be much choice for vegans on the menu: still hope to be pleasantly surprised.

Went for a quick bit of lunch with my fiancé, our son and our dog. We were made to feel very welcome the moment we arrived. Opting for the early bird offer of £12.95 for 2 courses we were amazed with the portion size considering the quality of the food provided.

Went for the first time on Saturday evening, a really nice atmosphere with friendly young bar/ restaurant staff. Great choice on the menu as well as the specials on the blackboard. All food promptly served warm and can I say a healthy portion size to. We shall be back and will recommend to family and freinds. Lovely village pub!! We shall be back.

Husband and i went for a nice lunch. Staff were friendly. We were made very welcome. Dog settled happily on her blanket in the bar area. Food was brought out quickly and the pub was quite busy so this was nice. It was hot, fresh and very tasty.

Sunday Lunch for 5 people, all but one of us had 3 courses. Everyone enjoyed their meal, the food was extremely tasty. Was just a bit disappointed when we were charged an extra 50 pence for a Yorkshire pudding my daughter had requested with her pork.

Visited after going for a walk down to the river Trent and back with a friend. The car park was empty when we left for the walk and much busier when we returned. Always a good sign. They were very friendly and allowed my (well behaved I must add) dog into the pub. On Monday lunch they offer a £7 deal for a main course. I expected to have room for a pudding after, but portions were that plentiful that I didn’t! I had steak pie. Homemade and full of meat, unlike the half full pies with lots of gravy filling you get elsewhere. Plenty of chips, mushy peas and gravy to accompany. My freeing had fish and chips and it was equally good. Really excellent pub food and we certainly would go back, especially at under £10 a head.

Been before and enjoyed a good meal. Booked Easter Sunday lunch for a family birthday. Starters were good but mains were disappointing. Beef had an unacceptable amount of gristle, roast pork did not have the crackling as per the menu and beef, pork and lamb were all wafer thin slices. Unsure if the pan fried salmon had been actually been pan fried at all.

It was like a whale! Fish and chips beautiful a choice between large and small - we had the large it was lovely- I do t like to much batter as it’s greasy however even though the fish was massive it was lightly battered which was very crispy and not at all greasy! Even though the pub was busy the food came to us in hood time and all together for all five of us! Definitely going back.

We stayed at the Full Moon Inn for two nights, and ate in the restaurant both nights. The food was absolutely delicious, and we were given a very warm welcome. We hope to find an excuse to return in the not-too-distant future.

We recent stayed for three nights with Cathy & Paul and cannot recommend the Full Moon highly enough. We had travelled fromAustralia for my mother’s funeral in Southwell and the welcome we received from them both so truly amazing.

Lovely meal, highly recommend the White onion & celery soup with farmhouse bread for starters, it was delicious.....and the Crispy breast of chicken, parmentier potatoes, creamed leeks, Diane sauce for main, so good! Great quality and good value. The chefs specials board has excellent choices too so another visit is to be planned!

Fabulous fish and chips! Beautifully cooked. Vegan meal of aubergine stuffed with tomato risotto again beautifully cooked and presented. Meant to post a photo of puds but we'd eaten them! Sticky toffee pudding, chocolate salted caramel tart, mango sorbet all went down well. Staff were attentive and friendly as always.

The food was good value and good quality.

Took a party of 25 for xmas menu everything from the delicious 3 course xmas menu to the excellent service from all staff was fantastic. A gastro type restaurant with very large servings and every item well cooked and delicious.

We had our pre Christmas celebration last night at this wonderful country Inn. We were of a party of 14 and we had a really enjoyable evening.

Popped into this popular village pub last weekend for Sunday lunch. Food was exceptional - freshly cooked, steaming hot n plenty of it - not ur normal bought in pretending to b home cooked food that most pubs do. Puddings were of the same standard too. One minor criticism was some of the staff need to look a bit happier n b a bit more attentive. Also start selling at least one dark beer other than Guinness. There was a cosy warm atmosphere throughout the place, very enjoyable...

We had a family gathering here last night. 2 of our party are vegetarian and both commented their meal was exceptional in fact the best hallouni fish they had ever had. Other meal were beautiful with good service and pleasant staff. Can't fault it.

If I'm really honest, eating in a large number and including little kids is never really that enjoyable, but The Full Moon Inn has completely changed my opinion. Fantastic Sunday lunch, fantastic choice of beers, fantastic service......all round Fantastic. The Full Moon is back to its best.

Since my first visit have been back to Full Moon a couple of times and each time the food and wine were delicious and tasty. The staff helpful, friendly and courteous and the ambience warm, welcoming and comfortable. Finally it was great value for an excellent standard of food and service.

Rescued by finding the last table for two for a Sunday lunch; impressed by the friendly staff and general good atmosphere. We don't normally have a Sunday lunch out but this was really pretty good; a nice bit of beef with a good selection of well prepared vegetables and some good quality gravy! Would have liked to stay a bit longer or ideally walk round the corner to home and have a snooze-unfortunately we were still 90 minutes away!

We ate here on Saturday 21 Oct. Table for 3, late lunch. Fab menu, a la carte, specials or the Early Bird. We all chose the Early Bird set menu, 2 courses for £13.95. Choice, quality, portion size, flavour, value - ALL amazing! Some places do small we portions for the 2/3 course menus - not here. Let’s just say Mr Creosote would have had a wafer-thin mint moment. Salt and Pepper Calamari with aioli followed by Pork chop with black pudding bonbons, braised red cabbage, mustard mash and cider sauce.......my mouth is watering just remembering! Good wine, beer , spirits and soft selection on offer, warm and friendly staff and comfortable contemporary surroundings - a gem of a village pub!

Fantastic home made food, and a warm welcome. Great atmosphere. Dogs are also welcome, but not in the restaurant.Could imagine it in winter with the fires lit.

I visited the full moon after my lovely friends had said you need to go and try their fish and chips so that's what we did we went for lunch and the fish and chips were amazing it's a great pub pub with a truly magical atmosphere I will be returning

We visited with family for Sunday lunch and had a very pleasant meal. The food was very good choice of roast lamb, roast beef or roast chicken with other choices such as pie, fish and vegetarian alternatives. The portion size was very generous with a good selection of fresh vegetables. Nice selection of deserts such a sticky toffee roulade, lemon tart and warm chocolate brownie. The service was very good, reasonable prices and a pleasant ambience.

This pub is extremely pleasant, the staff are friendly and cheerful, and it's a nice village location. There are some very interesting menu items, although the ones we chose were not quite as tasty as the descriptions suggested. Nevertheless, it was good quality and good value.

Visited with our children. Generous portions, lovely food, great service, reasonably priced and pretty surroundings. Will definitely be back.

Chose small fish and chips to suit my appetite. Lovely meal, beautifully presented, fish was particularly succulent. Friendly and courteous service all for under £8! Will certainly visit again.

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff but a pre booked sunday table should not have to wait 90 mins for starters. Mains were fine although the roast potatoes were well below par. Desserts looked good but we ran out of time. Service way too slow. Wasn't stand out but wasn't bad, chronically slow service apart. Place is obsessed with pea shoots!!

Booked in at the Full Moon Inn for my girlfriend’s 30th birthday and so glad that I did. They accommodated 20 of us and the service was great, with no delays, mistakes and most importantly no complaints from any of our guests! They even brought out a surprise for the birthday girl. The food was really tasty and well-sized portions. I will definitely be returning here and many of the party said the same.
