Have always loved this Pub and now it has had a recent makeover it is extremely attractive I telephoned to book a table for "Christmas Lunch" once their set menuhad been published and was available Fine However when we arrived we foundthat we were required to pre-order if we required to use this set menu Unfortunately we were not advised of this All dishes on that menu could be ordered from the A laCarte menu We had a lovely meal and enjoyed ourselves but of course it was moreexpensive so beware if you are thinking of using the set Christmas Menu!! It was a shame however that the little touches eg Christmas Napkins or a little Christmas decoration on the table had not been thought of Still hey there was a tree and a few other bits......

The Lord Nelson is our local village pub, and this is no ordinary village pub. For the first time, we used the gorgeous private dining room for our early Mother’s Day celebrations on Saturday lunch time. My Husband was the advance party and was waiting for us at the bar, the rest of us wandered into the pub and immediately got a hello, how are you, what can we get you welcome. We moved to Winthorpe last year and checked out the pub, we were greeted in the same way on our first visit as we did today - superb customer service. The private dining room (no charge) was a great place for us to be as we are a rowdy family and only find ourselves all together half a dozen times of year, so laughing and gossiping privately didn’t bother anyone else. For starters we ordered double baked cheeses soufflés; ham hock with scallops and black pudding and spring rolls. Each one of us thought the standard of food was exceptional, for main courses we ordered breast of chicken, parmentier potatoes, roast shallot, savoy cabbage and smoked bacon sauce, Nelson beef burger topped with red leicester cheese and smoked bacon in a toasted brioche; 12oz Rib-eye steaks; Lobster and king prawn tagliatelle in garlic and tomato sauce served with dough balls and garlic dipping butter (and it wasn’t over powering). The most amazing Shepherds Pie which was a duo of Lamb - rumpled and braised meat served with greens, broccoli and rosemary jus. There is a wonderful wine list to choose from, we ordered Baglio Gibellina. Our expectations continued to be exceeded when we all ordered puddings - try the Nelson rhubarb trifle, vanilla panna cotta, rhubarb jelly, rhubarb compote and a shortbread crumb; flourless chocolate brownie served with chocolate sauce and chantilly cream and Sticky toffee pudding served with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream. We were so busy eating we forgot to take any photos of our food, which was exceptional.

Huge thanks to 'Team Nelson' for their expertise and help in hosting and planning our special day. The directors and staff showed endless patience, flexibility and understanding and went 'above and beyond' to ensure that our day felt bespoke and special. Everyone had a fantastic time and the food and drinks flowed smoothly and were served with smiles all round. Our guests were very impressed and we are extremely grateful. Winthorpe and surrounding villagers are very lucky to have this community resource and we encourage everyone to utilise and support it's continued success.

A small group went for Sunday lunch because we had heard it was very good. What a disappointment! Tough topside of beef, carrots and potatoes that tasted as if they had beencooked the previous day and re-heated, "tenderstem" broccoli that was undercooked at the top and was nothing more than a thin "string" at the bottom, inedible because it was so tough, Yorkshire pudding that looked good, but again, was tough, and needed pulling apart, as it wouldn't cut, stuffing in balls as hard as pebbles ... wonderful staff though, excellent manager, all very helpful and friendly. Maybe we were unlucky and it was the"chefs" day off .... but we won't be trying it again.

It makes such a difference to a meal when the surroundings are nice and the staff are friendly and pleasant! This exactly what we found just a few nights ago when we went to the Lord Nelson at Winthorpe for the first time ever!Living in Newark for less than a year, we are still ticking off places that we have on our "to visit" list but eventually the opportunity to eat here came along so off we went along. Entering the lovely little pub/restaurant we approached the counter to be greeted by, as we found, a smiling Michelle. A friendly and warm greeting! We were so pleased. Then a nice young girl server, Rachel, led us to our table. Again, another friendly, pleasant face! An excellent start to a very good meal, as it turned out. Given the menu, we perused it to discover some interesting and enticing dishes but we eventually plumped on the lamb medallions/ and also a chicken dish. These came fairly quickly, accompanied by broccoli, new potatoes, baby carrots, parsnip purée, creamed spinach and what appeared to be shredded stir-fry cabbage. These choices proved to be good ones, not perfect but good enough to want them again. My lamb was excellent and the shredded cabbage it was sat on was really tasty. A generous portion but I had to pinch my wife's gravy as it needed fluid to get the most out of the mouth-watering flavour of the lamb! Her chicken was a bit dry but still nice and appetising. No sticky toffee pudding and the other desserts did not entice us that night so maybe next time for afters. We were very pleased by our first ever meals there and they seemed to tick all the boxes at the Lord Nelson, good menu, lovely staff, fair sized portions of tasty food and pleasant surroundings. Be most assured that we will be back and walking there on a sunny evening! A recommended place to eat for you all!

We had heard this pub was dog friendly so arrived without booking. The friendly young staff gave us a very warm welcome and we had choices of sitting in the bar area or outside with our two dogs. The lunch menu was varied and delicious. We both had sandwiches - the fish finger ciabbata and pork, apple and cider gravy roll. They were served with triple cooked chips - gorgeous! We were very impressed and will be back! The doggies enjoyed their treats and the sweets in the jar on the bar were a nice touch.

Waitresses were pleasant , however, the quality of food and the price did not match. We had Sunday Lunch, roast beef. The beef was tough, even the Broccoli was tough !! The Yorkshire pudding was more like a crispy dumpling. Did explain all this to the waitress when she asked " was everything all right " ? No response !Now I don't mind paying for good food but on this occasion I did not receive it. We also had to ask for every thing, condiments , horseradish, water. For £13.95 per.head I would expect the meal to have been at the very least to be acceptable this one was definitely not.

Lunch with friends and pooch. Nice welcome, but menu not as advertised on website. Not the end of the world. Service ok. Food very flavoursome - but the portion size was shockingly small. Brisket chilli served in nice sized bowl full of rice - but the tiny blob of chilli can't have filled a desert spoon. All carb, no protein. Not great for nearly a tenner. Pooch welcomed and fussed over, given a bowl of water on request - and the doggie biscuits were a lovey touch. Trouble is I could have dove with the biscuits in my chilli to supplement my lunch. Could have been perfect. Such a shame. Went home hungry. Pooch happy though.

Have been meaning to trying this place since it re opened some months ago and so pleased we managed to get a table for Sunday lunch as we'd not booked. Restaurant area was comfortably busy, with great service and a good hearty Sunday lunch menu. Shared a starter (nelsons catch - - lovely mix of whitebait, calamari, prawns and scampi) as the portions are a very good size and so pleased that we did as main course of roast was plentiful and delicious. Beef was served medium rare, veg was cooked perfectly and yorkshires and roast potatoes crisp and fluffy. With drinks our Sunday lunch came to £40 which we thought was really good value. Garden area looked lovely, just a bit too cool for us to sit out. Would highly recommend the Lord Nelson to anyone looking for a lovely venue with great quality food which is very reasonably priced.

Beautiful setting specially on a summers day. Lunch menu bit limited. I had panco cod with triple fried chips. Cod was OK but in what tasted like a burnt batter, chips were soggy. The other meals gammon and pasta were good. The staff were friendly and the resturant is nicely decorated.Resturant was empty and we were sat right in the middle for what seemed like convenience for the staff. Only two other tables turned up. A choice of table would have been nice. The evening menu looks more interesting. Would call again for a drink but maybe not food.

I've been an intermittent patron of the Lord Nelson since the late 80's(probably its heyday) and it's had many ups and downs in that time I'd say more downs in the latter years. Had some great food here in the past but also some poor. It's a lovely old pub with loads of character and in the right hands can obviously be a success.Returned as we'd heard good reports and I have to say on 1st impression it's clearly in an ascending phase. Was lunchtime and menu was concise but had enough appealing options and reasonably priced. Food wasn't rushed out and aside from one of our dishes was well cooked flavoured and presented. Few decent options at the bar plus reasonable wine list. Service was good.If they can maintain consistency then I'm sure will be a success. Would definitely return.

We found this place completely by accident last month (looking for somewhere between Lincoln and the A1 for friends heading south that afternoon) and returned for Sunday lunch with friends and family yesterday. It was just as good, if not even better. The place and its surroundings are delightful with a great atmosphere inside and the service is attentive without being OTT, plus we managed two courses this time! All delicious homemade food, cooked completely to our tastes. Perfect sized portions if you're hungry but don't want to feel over-stuffed and excellent value for money. I'm a veggie so having something a little more interesting for Sunday lunch is a real treat. We'll be back again. Soon I hope!

It has been a while since we ate at the Lord Nelson. We were pleasantly surprised as the pub has been refreshed since we were last here. Sunday lunch menu was interesting and we all found something we liked. Four of us had the beef and two the turkey. Overall the experience was pretty good with especially good service. The only slight (constructive) criticisms are as follows. The beef was tough. All four of us struggled with it. The house red was much too cold and hence not great. The room was cold. A fire would have helped. However was good enough for another visit

Visited this pub yesterday on way to Newark station after a weekend spent with friends and were we pleased we did. Lovely warm and friendly atmosphere as we walked in, we were greeted by a young lady who kindly took our cases and stored them for us whilst we proceeded to the table. All the staff were extremely helpful and efficient and couldn't do enough to help. We opted for a 2 course Sunday lunch, I had the Halloumi and roasted garlic fritters and my husband had the soup with a warm bread roll to start and we both had the roast beef and all the trimmings for our main. The food was gorgeous, piping hot and well worth the £15.95 for 2 courses that we paid. Definitely worth a visit and certainly somewhere we would go back to if ever in the area again.

As residents of Winthorpe we were delighted to hear that the Pub was finally to reopen in July and we waited with baited breath to sample "excellent food, fine ales and wines of the best" and have somewhere to walk to rather than having to drive everywhere!Let me say "The Pub delivers" on all fronts. The food is of the highest quality and the innovative menu has continued to develop over the last couple of months. With a great selection of 3 real ales to keep me happy and promise of maybe another, combined with an ample wine list to keep Jane smiling the future looks bright for the rebirth of this great Pub which has been long overdue!!!With a fresh look to the decor and lovely open fire (so important in creating that warm and welcoming feeling - would love to see a log burner in the main bar though - even if it's a pretend one!)A huge amount of hard work has been put in by the Directors and their team and despite the initial teething problems that any new venture experiences this Pub is destined to its position of former glory. What strikes me more than anything else is their willingness to take on board positive criticism and then act upon it with complete professionalism. They have listened and taken on board suggestions and it's making real difference. We're now sorted for Christmas Eve and New Year which now takes the pressure of having to worry about where to go .Over the last month we have visited at least twice a week and have had an excellent dining experience not to mention enjoyable company and have been welcomed and looked after to the highest degree. Both Jane and myself would have no hesitation in recommending this pub either for a full dining extravaganza, pub snack or just to visit for a drink. The location speaks for itself and is one of the nicest in the county and I hope the village for one will get behind the Pub and visit it as often as we do.Well done to all.Jonathan & Jane

The Lord Nelson advertises a free bottle of house wine with two steak and grill meals ordered. Beware they advertise this but my daughter and son in law had three courses each tonight, and were not offered the free bottle of wine, or even the complimentary bread basket. Also the pensioners lunch was advertised as two courses and tea and coffee. When we mentioned tea or coffee we were told, we don't do that anymore, we are not making enough money if we offer that. They should not advertise that they are giving bottles house wine, bread or tea/coffee if they have no intention of doing this. This is very misleading

Came here at 7pm on a Saturday, and were disappointed and surprised that they had ran out of the first 3 things we tried to order. It's understandable that restaurants will run out of items now and again, but at the start of peak service on a Saturday night to have ran out of the first 3 choices we try to make from the menu is ridiculous. There was no apology for this and the service was very slow. The food was nice, but the service and management was poor. We won't be returning.

Following several recent positive reviews, we had been eagerly expecting a good experience from the latest in a very long line of managements. Sadly, reality fell very far short of any reasonable expectation. The dishes served to our party varied considerably in quality, but none were scored above 6/10 and some were distinctly poor. Typically, our meals were judged edible but light on taste and deeply uninspiring. In the view of one of our party, the best that could be said of her starter and main course fish dishes was that she hadn't had to cook them. Several meals were barely warm and those eating roast beef needed to ask for steak knives just to get through their food! Worse, it even took staff 1/4 hour to find the 2nd steak knife. There were large, tasteless Yorkshire puddings served with every meal, regardless of suitability, seemingly just to take up space on the plate. Everyone's vegetables (all identical servings irrespective of widely varied main elements) were quite insipid tasting, as though cooked completely free of salt. The only vegetarian main course choice was an interestingly designed aubergine cannelloni, which would probably have been very nice had it not been over cooked to the point of incineration. The staff are all young and neatly uniformed, but the service they provided was truly abysmal. This may have been due in part to delays in the kitchen, but even our complaint was challenged and clearly not addressed seriously. We never had any explanation or apology for all the delays, but instead the waitress explained that they were busy! Busy! Never mind that every table was pre-booked - they knew in advance exactly how many diners to expect, and when.Having waited nearly 1/2 hour for my dessert, and my companions having long completed their own deserts, I was told that the kitchen had just discovered that they had suddenly run out of fruit crumble! There was STILL no comment from management, so I can only think that they really don't care. For each course, they were completely incapable of serving our meals together. This utterly ruined the conviviality of 8 friends sharing a meal together. I thought this was one main objective of a meal out in the first place. Its certainly no fun having to wrestle with the choice of either letting one's own food go cold or eating alone, watched by your hungry friends. So this was not at all a pleasant experience. The waiting staff were aware of our growing dissatisfaction as this interminable meal ground relentlessly on at its glacial pace. Yet we were not offered an apology for the delays, information on how much longer each delay would last, and certainly not any enquiry as to whether we were content with any of our meals after they had eventually been served. I can only assume that this shows the management to be either incompetent or indifferent, or maybe both. Either way, this failing is certainly compounded by a lack of staff training or control.I'm glad other people had better experiences here than did our group. But the uncertainty as to whether the food will rise above the mediocre and how one will be treated, means we won't be returning till this latest management is replaced, as seems inevitable before too long.

We went for Saturday evening dinner, the service was very slow although the restaurant wasn't packed, and the food very average. The waiting staff congregated at the bar and would literally run behind us through the restaurant when food was ready to be served from the kitchen. There was no coordination between the bar staff and the kitchen, they took our coffee order at the same time as the pudding order. The coffee arrived which we finished a good 20 mins or more before the puddings finally arrived which we were almost at the point of cancelling because they had taken so long. If you want a quiet relaxed but efficient dining experience this is not recommended.

Planning a visit to a pub for a night out for 30 people is quite a challenge. With the help of Oli from the Lord Nelson, a pre-planned menu, so that pre-orders could be placed, meant that everyone was promptly served by a very efficient staff, for which nothing was too much trouble. Ok it's mid week midday pie and a pint. The service was great and the place has been redecorated. The food did take a while to come but it was no issue as we had lots to talk about it was not busy at all. The main issue was the food was over cooked a little if it was not for me his then I would of give more stars. Will go back as it's convenient and a lovely place with a great drinks and food selection and super beer garden. Glad it's back open.

Five of us (including a child) visited a couple of weeks ago for a mid week evening meal. I ordered the pate to start and was very disappointed. It was bland and shop bought. I would expect 'the chef' to be able to produce home-made pate, it's not difficult. The steak was pretty average too. I don't remember any one else raving about their food too. The service was average even though there were several staff hanging around. We informed that they were 'quite busy as they had two large tables in', I couldn't see tables with more than 8 people, so I'd hate to see what the service was like during busy weekends. Unfortunately the 'Liberal parent' gang seemed to be in that night and seemed to think it was ok to allow their children (bless them) to run around the tables and crawl on the floor expressing themselves. Perhaps better suited to their needs would be Macdonald's, it's just down the road or stay at home and teach them some table manners; it may actually benefit them in later life.

We popped in for a meal last night to see what it was like now it has changed hands and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely lovely, service very good and the atmosphere is really chilled and relaxed. I loved all the new decor too, especially the bird wallpaper- I'm going to have to get some! We had the mini surf and turf for starters and a mushroom soup- all delicious. Then we followed with the rolled chicken breast and sea bream- which again were a bit gorgeous! I was too stuffed for pudding but another person had the apple crumble- very fresh and not too sweet. Staff were really friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be back- yummy!!! (Also they are 100% dog friendly which just makes me love it even more!)

Having lived unknowing close, ten miles, from this jewel of an Inn for the past nine years it has been an absolute delight to visit The Lord Nelson today for an impromptu lunch.A nice welcoming inn with spacious bars and a restaurant well laid out and with good space between tables. The rear garden is something from a vision of old England is is really quite delightful. The lunch menu is not ovearly extensive but attention to quality of food and the preparation of the dishes is really apparent.Service was fast and really professional with both of our meals achieving a solid ten from us.A great place for lunches or evening dinning and a must at some point for the Sunday lunch out which looked so tempting on their web site. The Lord Nelson will certainly be added to our round of local village inns and pubs for both the summer and the winter.Well done to the team that n the inn. Most impressed.

So pleased that The Lord Nelson has reopened (under new and well motivated management) and is much improved. Had a fab meal there last night - the salad was the best I've ever had (it was a one off special for the yoga in the garden evening - hope it will be on future menus). My companions were very happy with their pies and my treacle pudding was lovely comfort food after the healthy salad. Lovely waitress too. We will be back for Sunday lunch soon. Can't wait.

Not a lot happens in Winthorpe village of an evening unless you are into playing Bridge or have a Jacuzzi. I expect then that most locals are well pleased that their local pub has reopened after, shall I say, some inflammatory issues in the past. It’s hard work trying to re-open a new restaurant in an existing location. It must be tricky to plan a menu that pleases the locals yet has some interesting items that tantalises the passing traveller. The Nelson’s menu has some cool touches, e.g. truffle with ham-wrapped chicken and a couple of nice fish dishes, but I wonder if they could stretch to a few more adventurous items, like something Thai spiced or oriental, maybe some tempura or something smoked for four hours. Perhaps even a specials board to let the chefs show off their credentials. Still, we all enjoyed a well-cooked meal, it didn’t break the bank and, since Cafe Bleu closed, it’s probably the best high end restaurant in the Newark area. We’ll be back...as soon as we get bored with our Jacuzzi.

Good to see this old favourite resurrected under new management. We were very impressed with the quick service, quality of the food, bar and drinks offerings (with Heineken on draught - always a good sign!). Food (the Sunday carvery) was of a high standard and the staff very helpful and personable. The bar staff were happy to offer samples of the less familiar, and well kept, extensive draught ales.

Visited here this weekend with a couple of our children and granddaughter. The Nelson had been closed for a short while, but now it's re-opened, it's great to have it back! We spent a really lovely few hours letting the children (2 & 6) kick footballs and play in the enclosed, sunny back garden. Meanwhile we enjoyed some nicely selected wine and ordered traditional pub food. The burgers my eldest daughter and partner ordered were given enthusiastic nods of appreciation; my panko crusted cod and chips with a pea purée was reslly enjoyable; and as a treat the younger two thoroughly enjoyed a big potion of home cooked chips. So thrilled to have this place open again - it's a really nice walk from the northeast side of Newark, which makes a different afternoon out - and as an added bonus, the new kitchen offering is really, really nice! We will be back.

What a treat to find a pub with real character and charm run by people who clearly take a lot of pride in their 'proper pub'; great selection of local beers and a jar of pickled eggs on the bar (proper!), also, delicious food and an amazing wine list! Nice to see a pub that welcomes children and has a great play area whilst still maintaining a grown up atmosphere. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. If I didn't live 5 hours away this would definitely be my local! Well done the Lord Nelson!

Beautifully decorated we were made very welcome and after ordering drinks were taken straight to our table. The food was fantastic well presented good portion size and very tasty. With such a good dessert selection I couldn't help but be tempted and I wasn't disappointed. We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening nothing was too much trouble. The service was excellent and we will certainly be back soon. Well done to everyone.

Re-opened recently after being closed since December.First impressions were good; pleasantly re-decorated and refurbished with friendly, helpful staff and decent beer at reasonable prices. My 'potted' steak pie was tasty. However, on the negative side we had to wait a long time to get our table despite having booked in advance, meal portions were small and lacked a vegetable other than a handful of small chips; the wine is expensive being 50% to 100% more than charged at the excellent wine bar in Newark town centre.Really wish this place well and will re-visit and review again when the new management have had time to reflect on constructive feed-back.

The staff are really nice here and they are always really friendly and welcoming when we walk into the pub. There is always great atmosphere in the bar area and during summer it is great to sit outside. The food is not great for the amount it costs, unless you use the 7th Heaven menu which is a meal for £7 before 7pm, this is good value as the food is good, but not for what it is normally priced at.

Visited on new year's eve after a long dog walk in the local woods. Four of us (+ a three month old) had the foccacia and dip starter which was freshly baked and lovely. Three of us then had the burger and chips and one of us had the steak sandwich. All of the main courses were generous and of a really good quality. For pudding three of us had the sticky toffee with ice cream and one had autumn crumble with cream (there was no custard which I thought was a strange thing to not have any of!!!). With a couple of pints, a glass of wine and a few drinks the bill was around £100 which was really reasonable. However, more impressive than that was the really friendly nature of the staff, the waitress was excellent (not too attentive as some tend to be). A really enjoyable experience, will definitely be back.

Went to establishment for a light snack/meal on Sunday at 4.30pm was told they had chef problems. He did not turn in for his shift. we were very disappointed with that during this another dozen turned up wanting some food but again was told not able to do anything. While sitting having a drink the Manager was serving food upstairs and her staff were waiting on a large table in the above area. When asked about why there is food being served when we could not get anything. The Manageress said they had pre-booked and they had to get chef from their sister pub. So after the lies there was a chef to say the Manageress was very rude would be an understatement. She needs a lesson in customer care/service and should not be in front of customers with a stinking attitude that she displayed. We asked about the chef and she said I am not standing here having a debate with you I have had it all morning. We have been regulars to the pub always having food etc with large parties but I am afraid we will not be spending another farthing with you're business and I hope in the future you have more understanding and helpful staff.

We usually love this place but we were very disappointed on this occasion. We were told that there were "chef issues" so no specials were available. The soup was very watery and tasteless and the main course average. The restaurant is very attractive but badly needs a "front of house" manager. We complained about the soup and expressed our concerns that things weren't as good as usual - however no allowance was made in the bill. Such a shame- we won't be returning for a while.

The venue has a great deal of potential and has a superb garden area. The car park needs a tidy up and I noted a wall crumbling around the tree which let down the first impressions. On entering I was unsure if actually open as I noted a couple approach and then leave prior to us. Once inside you could see it was quite clean and quirky. We asked for our drinks and a food menu. To be honest we felt more welcomed by a fellow drinker than we did from the employee but decided to try the food. Whilst checking the menu we noted a specials board but most products had sold out next to them.We were approached by a lady to take our order at the table. We settled on sandwich options- we ordered Chicken Club & New York style with pastrami. Choice with Sandwich was to have with soup or fries. We went with Fries option.our cutlery and condiments were delivered and the food followed quite soon after.Presentation was ok but in a gastro type food pub would have expected our sandwiches to have been made with a more appropriate bread than what our sandwiches were made on which could on,y be described as Value sliced bread. The flavour of New York sandwich was nice however. Also thought it odd to have egg mayo served in a chicken club- would have expected sliced boiled egg??. No check back was carried out and no offer for refill of drinks were made. With more training I believe the business could be more than average.

This is undoubtedly one of the best Sunday lunches in the Lincoln/Newark area. I have visited for Sunday lunch at least 5 times indicating it must be very good in my opinion. However due to being so many times I have noticed a few inconsistencies such as the service can often be a little slow on the uptake initially when being seated up to ordering. On one visit the Beef wasn't quite as good quality as the other times (easily overlooked) and also once the potatoes were overdone and too crispy compared to other weeks. The manageress was quite rude one week but then the following week she was very good. Generally I would highly recommend, but couldn't quite give a 5/5, however The Lord Nelson is very almost there.

Very nice setting, reasonable food but poor service. Ordered drinks as meal was served but finished a leisurely meal before drinks arrived. Considering the restaurant was very quiet, around 5 diners, I'd hate to think how they would cope with a full house. The bar lady seemed too interested in chatting with a sole customer at the bar and was totally indifferent.

We would like to thank Lucy and her team for making Jacobs party so special. After running around outside all morning, we landed at the nelson for a pre-arranged lunch. The food consisted of burgers, hot dogs and mini fish and chips in cones. All was tasty and exceptional, and the parents who helped the kids out all said that they would return to the pub to sample the menu. Stopped off at the Lord Nelson in Winthorpe at the end of a walk along the river Trent for a quick lunch. We only just managed to order food as they stop serving at 2pm and there was a large outdoor wedding they were catering for. The pub has a lovely outside area to sit in the garden but if you choose this option you have to put up with the selfish smokers. The drinks were a little pricey but the food was god value for money. We both had a chicken club sandwich, which was packed full of fresh ingredients and accompanied by crispy fries and very filling. Would definitely try this place again if we were ever back in the area

Went in for a drink with my three year old son. The first was the price of two colas one 330 ml and one 250 ml for a total of £3.90. We sat in the garden and was shocked to see dog poo bags left next to the seating which is not the fault of the pub but should have been sorted. The gardens did not look as cared for which is a great shame as it seems in a little bit of a decline. We have been here many times and has been very good but the prices seem more and more expensive and seems less cared for. Not be going again.

We’ve been working away from home for the past five weeks and have eaten at The Post Office in Newark almost every night. It’s become our go-to spot! The staff here is fantastic, always welcoming and attentive—Kenzie, in particular, has been amazing, making sure we’re well taken care of each time we come in. They even switch the sports channel to our local team’s games, which makes us feel right at home. The food is top-notch! We had the Jingle Bell Beef burger, and it was excellent—perfectly cooked with incredible flavor, paired with crispy, beer-battered onion rings. We can also highly recommend the mixed grill and fish and chips—both were delicious and generous portions. The beer selection is solid too! If you’re looking for great food, friendly service, and a spot to catch a game, The Post Office is the place to be. We’ll definitely miss this place when we head home! ( coffee & smashed glass )
